Chapter 5
1 year later...
Every night ever since he made his promise with Elsa, Jack had come back every week to check on her. He would even hang around during the day on some days, but he kept his distance with her so she wouldn't look like a delusional child running around with her 'imaginary' friend. Some nights he would sneak in and say hello, other times he would play around with her, draw with frost all over the walls, occasionally even flying around the room with her in his arms.
But things were starting to get a little harder. With her baby sister, Anna, sharing a room with her, and more maids around to make sure Elsa went to sleep at night, Jack had to even more careful when he came.
He knew Anna didn't have powers like Elsa, so he didn't worry about Anna too much.
But Elsa's powers were becoming a problem. The four-year-olds' powers were getting stronger and stronger as she got older. Instead of a light frost, it was now becoming snow and crystals, and sometimes, ice.
Jack walked into the little girls' room and walked up to her bed. Elsa instantly woke to Jack's footsteps. She sat up in her bed, rubbing the sleepiness out of her eyes.
"Hi Jack." she whispered.
Jack sat next to her on her bed. "Hi Snowflake."
Elsa smiled. She leaned up against him and hugged him. Jack returned the hug. Elsa laid back on her bed and stared up at the ceiling. Jack copied.
"What do you see?" Jack asked. Elsa shrugged. "Nothing."
Jack and Elsa laid there for a while, not talking, not moving. Jack occasionally stole glances at Elsa to see what she was doing; sleeping or thinking.
Hours passed with the two laying on Elsa's bed in silence. Jack was deep in thought about the world, Elsa's future, what could happen to her. About how his worst fears were more than likely to come true. Jack wondered how her own family would react when she found out what Elsa could really do. Not to mention the rest of the people in the kingdom. He told himself that he had to help her keep her powers under control.
"Jack?"
Jack looked at Elsa, who had been calling his name for some time. He blinked and looked at her.
"Hm?"
"What are you thinking about?" Elsa asked. Her big blue eyes gleamed in the moonlight which poured in through the big triangle shaped window.
"Um, nothing." he said innocently. Elsa didn't buy it.
"Nuh uh. You were thinking about something. I know you were." she said as she sat up.
"I wasn't thinking about anything. I was sleeping." he looked back up at the ceiling to avoid her gaze.
"Why were your eyes open if you were sleeping?"
"It's possible to sleep with your eyes open."
Elsa rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. She thought Jack was being annoying. She may have been four, but she was still aware of what was going on around her. When Jack wasn't paying attention to her at the moment, she stood up, and jumped onto Jack's stomach. Jack shot up on impact, trying not to scream. And Elsa, trying not to laugh.
"Why did you do that?!" Jack loudly whispered. "That hurt!"
"You're lying." she said flatly.
"Fine, you wanna know what I'm thinking about?" Elsa nodded. "I'm thinking about how cool is that you have powers like mine. Is that okay?" Jack huffed, pretending to be mad.
Elsa put her index figure to her chin, pretending to think. She then looked at him, smiled and nodded. Jack smiled, and laid back down. Instead of laying back down, Elsa climbed off her bed and ran to the window. Jack looked over at her. He saw her bow her head and turn around. She walked up to him and looked up at him with sad eyes.
"The sun's coming up. That means you have to go, Jack." she whispered.
Jack swung his legs over the side of the bed and picked her up.
"Hey, it's okay. I always come a couple nights a week. I'll see you tomorrow or in a couple days. Okay?" he said holding up his pinkie.
"Okay." Elsa said, locking pinkies with him.
Jack put her down in her bed and tucked her in. After patting her head, he grabbed his staff and headed to the window. He opened it and looked back to see a pair of sad blue eyes on a pale face and a slow wave from a small hand. Jack waved back and hopped out the window, flying off into the cool morning sky.
