Growing Up
Many Pokémon come in different shapes and sizes, which they all use to their advantage: a Sneasel can trek through the dark winter forest without worry, a Pelipper can fly over the ocean blue without a care, Treeckos and Aipoms can play in the tree tops without being in danger, and many other wonderful lifestyles of Pokémon that cannot be explained in a few words.
But there are slight problems that can occur with size.
Arceus woke up from his nightmare with a jolt. His body shook as the sweat made him slightly colder.
It was calm and dark outside with the small but beautiful stars. Resting upon Spear Pillar with him was his three children, who were snuggled all together next to his left side: Giratina, Dialga, and Palkia. They were sleeping peaceful, probably having wonderful dreams about future adventures and stories, especially Dialga. Arceus looked upon his precious treasures, remembering the nightmare he just went through.
The dream was nothing elaborated, but what matter was that a monstrous creature was chasing his children until they could not run no more. Then, when the children stopped…Arceus shuddered at the thought. They are still too young and too small to defend themselves.
Arceus curled his body around his children carefully without waking them. Successfully, his body surrounded the younglings without awaking them, which helped Arceus feel better about tonight. But what about in the future?
Arceus looked back up at the sky once more, hoping that the star-gazing will help him fall back asleep. As he gazed, he noticed several Jirachi in the distance playing with each other. They were the wish makers of this world…is this my answer?
"Dear Jirachis, I hope you can hear my wish" began Arceus in a small but hopeful tone, "I wish for my children to become not only strong but giants among the magical creatures of this world, so that they will not be hurt and I will not worry for their safety."
"NO!"
"YES! IN YOUR FACE!"
Dialga screamed in Gira's face in victory, while Gira gritted his teeth. Today the children of Arceus decided to see who was taller than the other; this was just for kicks but suddenly it became a competition. It was pretty hard to set up a measuring scale but, thanks to some Alakazams and the native bird Pokémon, it was finally set up: two flat surfaces, a long measuring tape from human department stores, and a wide open space.
Dialga won with a giant size of seventeen feet and nine inches, while Gira was left with fourteen feet and nine inches.
"I can't believe it…by three whole feet…" Gira moaned, mostly at himself. Dialga, however, was jumping off of his area and dancing around Spear Pillar; yes, the entire Spear Pillar. Palkia sat nearby the two, a little annoyed at her brothers' competitive spirit, while Arceus lay down on top of a rock near the edge. He was watching the commotion, however he seemed very withdrawn. This concerned Palkia, for Arceus isn't usually in a down mood.
"Father? Why do you watch us while staying away?" Palkia asked cautiously. Though she is his daughter, it did not give her permission to act inappropriately towards Arceus.
"I ask you, Palkia, why did you not compete with your brothers" Arceus counter asked, a tactic used whenever he did not feel comfortable talking about something.
"Father, I have already known my brothers were taller than me by watching them grow up beside me. After all, I have always looked up to them."
Palkia was sure that Arceus would lighten up from some humor, but instead he seemed to become farther apart. It was hard to tell his facial expression from being so far away, since he was about five feet away and twenty-three feet higher than Palkia. It's almost like he doesn't want us to see him.
"I'll be right back everyone!" Giratina yelled out before flying off. Dialga laughed and ran up to his little sister, who was thirteen feet and nine inches. "Hey Pal! What you do think about your 'bigger brother' now?" asked Dialga as he towered over her yet remained in her face.
"Repulsive"
"Hey…"
"You two better not cause another rift" Arceus warned in a strict tone, something he had to do often. Palkia remained in her sot and Dialga backed away some. The warning wouldn't have such a negative tone if rifts in time and space around Sinnoh were less common. But Dialga started it.
"I'm back!" Giratina returned with a cheer in his voice and smirk on his face; with his Griseous Orb hanging from his neck, Giratina was now in his Origin Forme. He lower to one of the flat levels of the ground and commanded, "Measure me". "No…" Dialga said as his mouth was open while Palkia laughed at Dialga's expression. The twins already knew that Origin Forme Giratina was taller than his normal form but the question remains on how much larger.
While riding a Staraptor, an Alakazam flew to up to Giratina's head and let down the measuring tape. The other psychic Pokémon made sure the bottom of the tape was leveled with the flat surface of the ground for correct measure. Pulling the tape tight, the Alakazam looked carefully and exclaimed, "Twenty-two feet and eight inches!"
"NO!" Dialga screamed at the top of his lungs, which temporary caused Palkia to be deaf.
"YES! IN YOUR FACE DIALGA!" Giratina roared, causing the bird/psychic combo to fly backwards and hit the ground.
"Pl-please accept my sincerest apologizes" Giratina replied much more quietly and leaned toward the Staraptor and the Alakazam. They both had fainted but were fine otherwise.
"…Excuse me but I shall be returning to the Hall of Origin" Arceus replied and thus began to leave, however another Alakazam had asked, "Sir, not meaning to be rude or a nuisance, but are you not curious about your height as well?"
"Yes Father, you haven't done your height" Palkia said with realization. I must've have been distracted by my brothers to notice.
"Yes Father and I must admit I am curious to how tall you are as well" Giratina remarked. Dialga was still recharging from the shock attack.
"I can actually understand Palkia's curiosity, but yours is more confusing" Arceus remarked.
"You're usually not in poor spirits whenever all of us come to Spear Pillar for quality time. Since you are, perhaps it had something to do with height, or precisely our height" Giratina replied, with the same cautious tone that Palkia used earlier. Arceus is a magical creature to not be trifled with.
"All that is wrong is that all three of you have grown up so fast and I have not been able to enjoy your childhood as much as I have wanted too" Arceus said with such a happy look on his face. Palkia seemed accepting of the answer and, when she looked over to Dialga, it appeared he did too. Giratina was not as accepting.
"Then why are you trying to leave so quickly?" Giratina asked seriously. All three children and the Pokémon around the Spear Pillar looked toward Arceus for an answer to Arceus' behavior. Realizing that he did not have a choice, Arceus decided to step down from his stone and walk over to the flat surfaces. It was then that Palkia realized that her dad was much smaller than he usually appears, but then again Arceus was always standing on something that made him taller than anyone in…well…everything.
A different Alakazam and a Xatu flew up and start the measurement process again. It was a little while but eventually the Alakazam shouted, "Ten feet and six inches"
"TEN FEET!" was all the three children could say while Arceus lowered his head in shame.
"…that can't be right!" the Alakazam replied in shock and asked Arceus to raise his head again. Arceus did so and the measurement began again. And again. And once more.
"Well…ten feet and six inches" Alakazam answered, although not in the same announcement manner as the first one.
"We can't be taller then you Father-unless…how much taller was mom?" Dialga asked, and right after that Palkia and Giratina drifted away from Dialga while Arceus gave the death stare. "Child of Time, I brought you into this world and I can take you out from all of them completely" Arceus growled.
Be careful of what you wish for. It just might come true.
