Chapter Five - Shooting Practice

"No?" Alex responded not very convincingly.

"That looks a little over a year old, and right above your heart!" Snake interjected, the medic mother hen mode kicking in.

"Technically it missed by 2mm."

"I'm not having this argument now! Out the shower and dressed, the physical is happening right now." Snake yelled as they all left, dressing rapidly on the way out of the showers.

"I never knew you swung that way." Alex retorted sarcastically as he was practically dragged to the infirmary.

"Sit." Snake demanded, as the entered an empty cubical. Alex grudgingly obliged, he was stuck, the angle from the window into the laundry chute was too steep. The only other exit Eagle, who had remained suspiciously silent, had left through to find a doctor, and would most likely tackle him if he made a break for it.

"I don't see what the problem is, it's no big deal." He shrugged, that was obviously the wrong think to say.

"NO BIG DEAL!" Wolf roared, "That, if I hope I am mistaken, is a bullet wound above your heart! Not to mention the burns and scars littered across your back! Jag each one of those are serious injuries!"

"He is telling the truth Jag." Fox joined in, he had known about them, just hadn't said anything. Apparently Jag was his new nickname.

Alex gave him a scowl in return, "They don't bother me anymore." He shrugged. He knew it was a lie even saying it to himself.

"Bull." Eagle retorted as the doctor followed him in, looking up from a clipboard he saw the unit surrounding the kid. Their body language wasn't exactly giving off positive intentions.

"Now I'm Doctor Stone, you must be Jaguar. I see your due for a physical examination, in two hours. However your team mates brought you here now as they felt it was urgent" He cocked an eyebrow at the statement. Dareing him to elaborate, considering he was both conscious and not bleeding, nothing appeared to be wrong.

"Nope I don't see any reason." Alex responded and tried to jump down from the bed.

Snake stopped him "He has a old bullet wound and some various scars we would like you to investigate, along with the normal health checks." He stated as Alex sat back down.

The doctor frowned, asked the others to wait outside and asked him to strip. Alex gave him the same line he had repeatedly given to the others, but nevertheless did so reluctantly. The doctor asked stupid question after question, prodded and poked him repeatedly. Then hooked him up to a few weird machines. After what seemed like forever, he scribbled out a prescription and gave him note for the all clear. Even if it was rather reluctantly.

Alex responded by frantically rushing out, grabbing the prescription out of the doctors hand. There was a scribbled note on the door, telling him they would be in the cabin, waiting for him. Plus Snake would check in with the doctor, making sure what was said.

Alex rolled his eyes at them, and began to jog back. He had been at the camp for a few hours and was fed up, and it would only get worse when the kids arrived.

Without knocking he swung the cabin door open to reveal four annoyed, and slightly worried men. "Why don't you guys have another member?" Alex asked as he help up his all clear and passed into Snake. He had put the prescription away, there was no need for him to have the pain meds.

"We did, he was honourably discharged a few weeks ago. He was seriously injured on our last op. We won't be getting another until you leave." Wolf explained as he looked at Snake for conformation, that Alex was indeed alright.

"Next time how about we do the check up BEFORE any training." Eagle suggested. Snake responded by giving him a oh-really glare.

"Well usually it's done that way if we are informed of serious injury, but due to the timing of their arrival, the doctors shift and no medical files for you two, it just didn't happen." Snake explained.

"Now that's cleared up can we go do something more fun?" Alex asked as he flopped down on the cot faking exhaustion.

"Up you get, we are now due at the shooting range." Fox reached out an arm to help him up. Alex took to and heaved himself up, following the others out the door.

"So Cu-Jag, can you shoot?" Eagle asked practically bouncing down to the shooting range.

"Well I am having an evaluation at the shooting range." Alex state bluntly with a hint of sarcasm. "You did pass the barb test* didn't you Eagle?"

The others sniggered, Eagles grin dropped. "I am not that stupid." The other gave him disbelieving looks.

"I did! Honestly!" The hazing about Eagles IQ continued until reached the shooting range.

As the entered Fox bent down whispering in his ear "Smithers hacked into his file a bit ago, he did pass but only just." Alex sniggered brief and then stopped, he didn't feel like taking the wrath of a excited teenage Eagle.

"Are you ladies finished?" The shooting instructor barked at them. They all instantly snapped to attention, saluting him.

"Wolf and Snake, side arms firing practise lanes 1 and 2. Eagle long range drills, you know were. Fox, Jaguar wait in lanes 3 & 4 you need to be assessed." He instructed as they dispersed to the respective areas.

Eagle flashed them a Cheshire Cat grin as scampered toward the rife and sniper range. The other filed into their respect lanes, as the instructor gave Snake and Wolf drill instructions, and handed out the handguns.

He placed the gun in the beach in front of him and Fox. Alex recognised it instantly as a Sig Sauer P226.

"Strip it."

Alex's hands moved over the gun on instinct. He first checked it was unloaded and removing the magazine. Then he retracted the slide and engaged the slide catch lever. Rotating the take-down lever clockwise, his hand darted over the gun quick and quicker. He moved the slide, barrel, recoil spring and guide as one unit forward and off the frame. Pushing in the recoil spring he guided it forward and removed it by lifting the spring and guiding from the rear. Grasping the magazine and depressing the insert with a cleaning rod, that was sat at the side of the branch. Alex pushed the floor plate forward until it cleared the tube. Removing the magazine follower and spring from the tube. Alex laid all the piracies out, signalling he was done, Alex noted that Fox was only half finished, and the others including the instructor were staring at him slack jawed.

"How..."

"But..."

"Huhh" The voices clamoured over each other. Alex just rolled his eyes at them.

"Jaguar that's nearly one of the fastest times we have had. How did you manage it." The instructor barely had the brain power to garble out anything else.

"Bloody Heck Jag!" Fox finished as he lauded out the parts in defeat. "Where did you learnt to do that?" Snake took a advantage of the pause "How did you learn to do that?"

Alex smirked "First you check it's unloaded..."

"Not that how." Fox replied dryly.

"It's Classified."

"Classified my..."

"It's safe to say you both passed that section." The instructor interjected, preventing the awkward conversation that was bound to happen. He disappeared for a second, return with a magazine, telling then to load it. Both of them completed it easily earning them a tick on the clipboard.

"5 rounds cut outs. Shoot to kill." The short sharp instructs came. Both of them fired imminently after the order was given. Alex found it easy, almost too easy, after Scorpia, his training with MI6 had taught him better, after Cairo and America he had pushed himself into the ground training. Now it paid off, the shots were perfect.

After the firing ceased, they collected the scores, Alex had 99%, Fox had 89%. Fox didn't say anything, the instructor mumbled they had both passed.

They repeated the process with other weapons, all main ones they used all from a standing position, they even joined Eagle for a few long range rounds, Alex passed them all with about 10% higher accuracy than Fox. After they finished the instructor pulled them to one side and gave them an over view.

"Fox, your shooting is decent at best. You need to work at improving it but now your up SAS standard." He paused and moved around the sheets on the clipboard.

"Jaguar, yours shoot is damn impressive. You score over 98% in everything, wherever you learnt, regardless of using instinctive firing the results speak for themselves. Dismissed."

The unit barely made it 4 feet out the door before the bombardment of questions begun. Eagle mainly just listened, he only really saw briefly Alex's long range work, but didn't find out exactly how good he was.

"Wait a second Wolf, did you just say instinctive firing." Wolf nodded puzzled at Eagles statement.

"Now correct me if I'm wrong. But instinctive firing is used by assassins, one particular type. Those trained by SCORPIA."

At that statement they all turned to question Alex. Shock written on all there faces, Fox look sympathetic. He knew couldn't help Alex out of this one.

*The Barb test is a basic IQ test people have to take to get into the army.
