Chapter 26
Date: 9th July 2026, 10:30
Location: Courtroom No. 3, California
"Your Honour!" The Bailiff said, after opening the door into the courtroom. Everyone looked in his direction.
"What is it, Bailiff? Can't you see we're in session here!?" The Judge asked.
"Miss Wright is here and she has some important information in relation the case!" The Judge's eyes widened before he cleared his throat.
"Allow her to take to the stand then please, Bailiff." Emma walked in, with a pile of papers in her hand, Phoenix's hat on her head. "Miss Wright, why is it that you have interrupted this court session? And what is that thing on your head?" Emma looked up.
"Well, one, I said I would wait for a recess but the Bailiff was adamant. Two, it's my brother's hat. He did run after me to get it back but I lost him." She shrugged and grinned. "Anyway, I digress! The reason I came here was that I found out that…" Emma was interrupted by the courtroom doors swinging open again.
"What is it this time Bailiff!?" The Judge asked.
"Detective Crescend has the results on the Investigation concerning the Interpol number!" Crescend then walked in. Emma snuck to besides the defence desk, allowing Daryan to take the stand.
"Right, Detective Crescend. Your report please!" Daryan nodded.
"I asked Interpol about that number. I'm sure you'll find their answer intriguing." Emma huffed quietly.
"That's an understatement." She murmured. Apollo looked at her with a questioning look. She shook her head. Daryan continued.
"'IPXX314206' the agent registered under that number was Romein LeTouse." Klavier's eyes widened.
"What…?" Daryan opened his mouth to speak but Emma interrupted.
"Mr. LeTouse was an undercover Interpol agent. He was in the middle of an operation." She lifted her head to address the court. "I believe the murder weapon belonged to Mr. LeTouse, seeing as the only people I know to have weapons of such a high calibre as that work with Interpol." She looked over at Crescend, who gulped slightly and nodded.
"So the victim was killed with his own weapon, which makes sense. It's hard to imagine someone who wasn't an Interpol agent with such a large revolver." Klavier said. Emma nodded in agreement.
"Yes, anyway as I was going to say…" Emma was interrupted yet again by someone else. This caused her to groan and hit her head against the table. "Really!?" She muttered.
"Wait!" Lamiroir stood up.
"La-Lamiroir! Is something the matter?" The Judge asked.
"That voice just now…" Klavier frowned.
"Daryan?" He asked.
"Mr. Daryan, is it…?" Lamiroir asked. She was silent for a few seconds before she spoke again. "It was him. I am sure of it."
"It was 'him'?" The Judge asked. Klavier looked like he was in pain.
"Y-You aren't saying-!?"
"That voice I heard, talking to Mr. LeTouse… when I hear the gunshot's fired." Lamiroir said. "It was him! It was Mr. Daryan!"
"Is this some kind of joke?" Klavier spoke out. Emma sighed and hung her head slightly.
"Well, this just made the case go from complicated, to a thousand times more complicated." She commented, flicking her bangs out of her face. Apollo looked at her.
"What do you mean?" He asked. Emma smirked and pulled out her phone.
"I'm going to play two sounds. I need you to tell me which one is the one you heard that night, okay?" Apollo nodded. Emma played the first sound and then the second. "Which one did you here?" Apollo replied that he heard the second one. Ema spoke up from the other side of the court room.
"I heard the sound too and I agree with Apollo. The second sound was the exact same as what we heard." Emma nodded slowly and put her phone away. She then crossed her arms and spoke.
"Well that confirms my theory." She said. Apollo, Trucy, Klavier and even the Judge looked at her questioningly. "I spent most of yesterday listening to 'The Guitar's Serenade' over and over." She cocked her head to the side, looking thoughtful. "About 56 times to be precise. I then stepped away for about an hour before going back to it and this time I noticed some things were off." She cocked her head to the side. "The sound of the gunshot was during the performance." The court room was silent for a few moments before everyone started talking at once again. Emma just rolled her eyes before banging a fist against the desk and shouting.
"QUIET!" The whole courtroom was silent and looked in Emma's direction who had a fist on the desk and her eyes closed, head down slightly. She spoke out quietly. "Now everyone has shut up." She opened her eyes and stood up, shaking her bangs out of her eyes once more. "I suggest that court is postponed to allow for a day of extra investigation." She looked up at the Judge. The Judge nodded.
"Yes, the trial is postponed to allow for an extra day of investigation." And with that the judge banged his gavel. Emma, Apollo and Trucy headed into the defence lobby. Machi was taken back to the detention centre. Apollo collapsed down on a couch.
"I don't know what to make of this…" He murmured, raking a hand through his hair. Emma leaned against the wall across from him, head down, looking at the floor. Trucy jumped in front of Apollo.
"Hey! No wimping out now Apollo!" She said. He sighed and looked up at Emma.
"Mi… I mean Emma?" She looked up and gave him a half smile. "What do you think of all this?" Emma sighed and tilted her head back.
"There is more to this case than meets the eye." She said before moving over to sit next to Apollo. "Luckily I managed to get you another day of investigation. The fact that Lamiroir accused Crescend is quite important, as combined with the gun shot sound I found to be in the track it seems the shooting did indeed occur during her performance." Emma sighed. "You need to have another look around the Coliseum and speak with some people." She looked over at the two young people and smiled. "I would come with you but I have some other work to do with Nicki, Miles and Liam but if you need any help just ask." With that Emma got up and gave them a quick salute before exiting the lobby. Before she exited the court house she saw Klavier. "Rocky!" She called out. Klavier turned to see Emma there and gave her a small smile.
"Guten tag Emma." He said quietly. Emma frowned before sighing and giving him a small smile herself.
"Hey," She said, Klavier looked at her, sorrow clear in his eyes. "Whatever happens, you need to find out the truth and sometimes the truth hurts." She sighed and gave a sad smile. "But if you need someone to talk to, I'm here and quite a good listener too." She winked. Klavier laughed a short laugh and gave Emma a quick hug.
"Danke Emma. I will keep that in mind." Just as he was about to say good bye Emma spoke again.
"By the way you and Apollo, perfect couple in my opinion." Emma grinned and turned before running towards the doors of the courthouse "Auf Weidersehen!" With that she ran out the door giggling. Klavier was just stood there in shock before blushing and shaking his head.
"Ach Emma, if only it was that simple." He muttered to himself before leaving himself.
