Chapter 30
Date: 10th July 2026, 13:55
Location: Courtroom No. 3, California
The Judge banged his gavel.
"Court is now back in session. Prosecu-Wa-wait! Ms Wright! What are you doing here?" The judge exclaimed. Emma smiled before replying.
"Well, I thought I would just stand in for support for the second part of this trial." Emma shrugged her shoulders. "It was a last minute decision really." Emma looked over at Klavier. "You don't have a problem with me being here do you?" She asked. Klavier just shook his head.
"Nein." Was all he said. Emma frowned slightly in concern and was about to speak but the Judge beat her to it.
"Well then, Prosecutor Gavin where is Detective Crescend?" Klavier replied.
"He is in the witness lounge, ready to be called at any time." Emma could see that he was not in a good mood.
"Very well." The Judge said. Klavier spoke up once more.
"Might I add… I don't believe any of this. He… Daryan was the first detective I ever worked with." He closed his eyes for a couple of moments before opening then again and continuing. "We stopped working together when he moved to Criminal Affairs, Division three… But his guitar playing… It fires my imagination." Emma frowned before muttering to herself.
"This wouldn't be the first time I've seen this happen…" Klavier looked over at her.
"What do you mean Emma?" He asked. Emma's eyes went wide when she realised that she said that louder than she thought she did.
"Well, there was an incident with an Inspector in England." She frowned. "I'd rather not go into further detail, it was a horrible mess." Klavier nodded. The Judge then spoke up.
"Very well, call the final witness to the stand! Detective Daryan Crescend!" Daryan then walked in to the court room and to the witness stand. Emma leant back against the wall behind the bench, coffee in her right hand, playing with her magatama in her left. She looked over at Daryan and was surprised not to see one but three psyche locks in front of him. Her eyes widened slightly but she regained her composure before anyone could notice. I expected to see one but three?! She thought.
"Name and occupation, please." Klavier asked in somewhat of a sombre tone.
"Daryan Crescend, Criminal Affairs, Division three." He glanced over at the three standing behind the defence bench. Apollo and Trucy looked alert at what he was saying while Emma was relaxed against the wall, staring at nowhere in particular, sipping on her coffee and playing with her necklace absent-mindedly. "That's the International Affairs Division, for those of you who didn't know." He paused. "And I'm a guitarist for the Gavinners. Maybe you've heard of us?"
"Do you understand the circumstances under which you stand before us today?" The Judge asked. Daryan nodded.
"Yeah, I understand, Your Honour." He looked over at Klavier. "What I don't understand…" He narrowed his eyes slightly. "Is how you let this happen 'partner'." Klavier just stood there. "You gave me your word I wouldn't be standing here." Klavier looked over at Daryan.
"The situation's changed, Daryan…" Klavier paused. "And don't call me 'partner'." Daryan huffed.
"Feh. So much for old friends." He said. The courtroom was silent for a few minutes before Emma slammed her hand down on the bench. Everyone in the courtroom looked in her direction.
"Look, can we stop this little spat between you and Prosecutor Gavin, Detective Crescend and move on to your testimony!" She said in a stern voice, leaning over the desk slightly. Her bangs had fallen slightly over her face and she was glaring at the detective over the top of her glasses. He gulped slightly and nodded. "Good." Emma stood up and flicked her head to the left slightly to move her hair out of her face. "I am stressed and tired. I'm running on caffeine and my patience is running low so if you will." She went back to leaning on the wall sipping her coffee once again. The Judge nodded in agreement.
"Yes, please begin with your response to Lamiroir's testimony." The Judge paused for a moment before continuing. "If, in fact you have anything to say about it." Daryan nodded.
"Oh I got plenty to say." He said. "Lying must be a pastime in Borginia." He looked over at Apollo. "And wherever you're from, Mr 'Justice'. Hah!" Emma took a deep breath in before retorting.
"Crescend, just get on with it or I will have you held in contempt of court." She said in a low tone, glaring over the top of her glasses. She could see the blurry figure of Daryan nodding before she pushed her glasses up and relaxed back against the wall, ready to hear what he had to say.
**Witness Testimony**
-Daryan's Rebuttal-
"The diva's lying, plain and simple. She's got nothing to back up her story."
"In the first place, she never heard my voice!"
"She 'forgot the words because she heard gunshots'? As if!"
"Didn't Detective Ema Skye hear those gunshots during the third set, anyway?"
"The shooting took place when I was on stage, man!"
**End of Testimony**
"Hmm… So you claim Lamiroir's testimony was a lie?" The Judge asked. Daryan nodded.
"Hey, don't get me wrong, I dig what she's doing, trying to protect the kid. And she's got the court eating vague statements out of her hand just 'cause she's blind." He huffed. Klavier then banged his fist against the wall behind him spoke up.
"…You go too far Daryan."
"Look, all I'm saying is, you've got a reliable witness." Daryan retorted. "Why not listen to the detective?"
"Detective Skye…? Hmm… I see." The Judge said. "Mr Justice, may begin your cross examination." Apollo nodded and looked over at Emma. She finished her coffee and put the empty cup on the floor next to the bench and nodded at him.

"OBJECTION!"
