A/N: The last chapter was frustrating because I usually can just sit down and write it out, with or without lots of thought process but it just wasn't working, not enough Cat and Jade interaction I think. Also, I have full intention of finishing the entire series + epilogue. It may take some time though. See my other story Present for example… I owe that one an update, which I will get around to eventually. Sorry it's short.
Also, to address Sleepy's confusion on why Cat feels weak all of a sudden. Keep in mind that Jade and Cat are two different people and so while Jade knows some things, Cat doesn't know exactly what Jade knows (e.g. how much control she has over her) and vice versa. Also, Cat's reaction is because she was under the belief she had this toy that would do whatever she wanted when she wanted (more or less), and could discard it at anytime because it was a kind of amusement for her. Also, she believed she had thought of everything, and she has (for the most part). Except for some miscalculation on her part, she got attached. And that is something she does not want. Does this answer your concern? Also, thank you for the advice. The only problem with that is, this is my lets write this while I'm uninspired because I'm avoiding my main story that I should be writing but I am not… ., so no matter what I'm basically forcing myself to write this anyway (or it's going crazy in my head and I can't stop… it's one extreme or another).
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Cat POV Survival of the Hottest
Being stuck in a trailer with the others for a forty-five minute ride to the ocean was not your idea of fun. But it would help to have witnesses; it's not the best plan. In fact, it sucks that you can't kill her by carving pieces of flesh off her body as you get to watch the light fade from her eyes. But unfortunately, it'd be traced back to you and the police in this city aren't stupid enough to believe it would have been an "accident", well not after the last time that is. Of course, sometimes plans can be ruined and they become obsolete.
But this, oh this, was all too convenient. You had just returned from the bathroom when you saw the RV that pull up beside the trailer trapping them inside. And after all the suffocating idiocy that you had been forced to endure, it seemed like justice. You could pull the truck forward and let them out and continue with your plan, which probably would never be traced back to you. Or you could just let the accident be just that… and accident. The fact that all the people that were going to be witnesses to Jade's untimely fatality in the ocean only to join her was, well for the lack of a better word, ironic. You turn around and head toward the ocean, after all it is a nice day, and it would be such a shame to waste it.
An hour later, you're bored. At first you thought you had good fortune of three guys wanted to compete for your attention. But they were so predicable, not the good kind either, more like the, if you could scape the scum off the bottom of your shoe, you'd keep that sooner than you'd take one of them home with you. Your phone rings, you excuse yourself for just a moment to answer it, they just laugh and stupidly nod acknowledgement as you walk off into a quieter corner. You answer it on the last ring.
"Hello Jade," her name rolls off your tongue, your voice drops an octave lower than your usual pitch.
"Cat, can you come and pull the truck forward?" Jade's hushed voice asks the plea is evident and you feel a twinge of an unknown feeling. You don't like it.
"No," the answer is absolute and final. There is no way you are going to change your mind.
"Cat," she begins but you already ended the call before she gets in a second word. Your phone rings again, you ignore it. She's just a pesky problem that is now being dealt with. Then cold water hits you in the back and you turn around, the idiot boys are having a water fight. It's short and unfair, they gang up on you and there's a moment when you want someone on your side. Magically, it happens for a few seconds, and having someone there, watching your back stirs something. It doesn't feel right, then he turns traitor, and everything shifts back into place.
It's been two hours and you think that by now maybe they've suffocated to death. You get back to the trailer and they aren't dead. You're about to turn around and leave, then you hear her voice, singing. There's a moment of weakness and before you can correct it, you've open the door. And they spill out. Jade's sweaty, which is unusual so of course being the Cat everyone knows you have to comment on it. Her voice responding, tells you that she knew exactly what was going on and this game is going to change. And for a second you're confused because if she knew you have to wonder why didn't she tell the others.
You thought you knew Jade, she's weak, but now you're not so sure because by your calculations and experiences, people dying have no need for secrets. So this leaves you with one question: what is her angle? How much did you underestimate her? And there's a smile on your face because she's made life far more interesting than the boys did in a matter of seconds.
It's a new game, different rules, not completely under your control, but for once, you don't mind because this entire match just added a new set of stakes. And now you get to mess with her game. So sure, why not play along, for a while. You'll learn the game and then bring her back to heel. This could be fun.
