AN: My head hurt today...a lot! Kind of reminded of the 70's as Jack might well say so forgive the errors, I'll fox them in time, I promise.
Summary: Q21 Episode tag for S4: E2 'Entity'. In the show Jack asks Sam a question at the end of the episode, that question is below. I just thought it might be fun to extend it slightly and have a groggy Sam put in a request of her own. Enjoy. K rated. Friendship/Pre-Romance. Jack/Sam with Frasier, Daniel and Hammond.
QUESTION 21 Where you been?
Jack let the tension escape from his body. "Hey Carter, where you been?" he asked in gentle, curious tones.
"I was shouting...for you to hear." Sam scratched out, the effort exhausting her.
"We heard." he voiced reassuringly and she almost nodded. In the short silence that followed Jack was aware of the entire collective in the room breathing a heavy sigh of relief. He dropped his hand down on the bed and the Major, through heavily lidded eyes looked up at him. As her focus came more fully onto that of his face he instantly read something private in her eyes, something that she needed to ask.
"Can ah- Can we have the room please Sir?" Jack asked. "Just for a moment General, that's all."
"Of course Colonel, come along people." Hammond assented and shoed his people out the door ahead of him.
Slowly they filtered out, Doctor Frasier being the last to go with a lingering look of concern over her shoulder.
Sam sighed her eyes closing fully before she attempted to reopen them.
"What's up Major?" Jack asked, stepping closer, his hand trailing up along the bed sheets.
Sam watched his hand, then slowly with her own she reached out and took it to her. "Kiss me Jack." she breathed, squeezing his fingers.
"Ah, what?" Jack asked, every muscle in his body reacting to the unexpected request.
"Please." Sam begged, her energy levels once again flagging. "Just this once. I thought I was going to die in there."
"Major I...ah."
"Jack please. I just need to know that I am still alive. Will you please just do this one thing for me?"
Jack was silent as he contemplated her need, but maybe it was already too late? It seemed she was already unconscious again and so he hesitated, but then she stirred slightly, the fraction of a whisper on her lips. "Please." they said and so he did it. He granted her request.
With a quick glance around he dropped his face down towards hers but at the last moment stopped. She must have sensed he was there because her fingers tugged at his and so he closed the gap.
It was not a long or romantic kiss exactly but it was heartfelt and for just a moment he felt her reacting in kind, then she let out a long slow sigh and her face tilted away from his.
"Doc!" Jack shouted, moving away even before the doctor approached.
"What happened Colonel?" she asked. "What did she say to you?"
"Oh ah, nothing much." Jack rubbed the back of his neck aware that everybody else had filtered back into the room along with the Doc. "She ah, she just wanted confirmation that she was back that's all."
"How?" Daniel Jackson asked turning Jack's face red, but before he had time to fumble his way through an answer Janet was speaking.
"She's alright Sirs. Asleep I think? I'd like to get her back up to the infirmary straight away though. I don't want her near any of this equipment any longer than she has to be. In fact I want it all destroyed. I want it all destroyed right now!" Frasier snapped, overstepping her bounds.
"Alright Doctor, calm down." eased the General. "Sergeant Siler, see to the Doctor's request. The rest of you Briefing Room, now!" and with that General Hammond left them standing.
Janet was the first to move and with the help of an airman she began pushing the Major towards the door. Jack stopped the movement of the trolley as they passed him. "She's gonna be just fine Doc." he reassured the tiny Doctor, her concern was completely understandable and intensely palpable. "I promise." he added with a reassuring squeeze of her arm.
"How do you know that?" Janet asked, instantly believing him and glancing down towards her best friend.
Jack just smiled. "Let's just say she told me and leave it at that, okay?"
Janet's eyebrow raised slightly but her only response was a curt nod. She knew much, much better than to poke around in that one and so with the Colonel's help she wheeled her friend away to be properly assessed.
