AN: And voila...internet stole idea, so if you've heard it before, forgive me...just enjoy the SG-1 setting...
UNEDITED...
SUMMARY: It's team night time again and Jack has another question for his 2IC. What will she come up with this time and how will he fair up against her answer? All four of SG-1 poke a little fun at each other. K rated. Mid Season 4 relaxation and familiarity. Enjoy :)
HEY 22: PEOPLE ON EARTH.
Jack's living room was strewn with lazily tossed about pizza boxes, empty candy wrappers and beer bottles. Not that either he or his sated and relaxed team were paying the slightest bit of attention. The attempted game of Clue lay abandoned on the table and the television burbled away quietly, barely even managing to hold their collective attentions...and it wasn't even getting late yet. It had just been a long hard month.
The TV said something about the Earth's population and it sparked off something ever so slightly weird inside Jack's skull. "Hey Carter, there are a heck of a lot of people here on Earth, right?"
"Ah, yeah Sir." Sam answered, not even bothering to try to hide the 'well-state-the-obvious' tone that was in her voice.
"Several billion actually, Jack. Although, the exact number at any one given time is said to be practically impossible to predict." Daniel chipped in, almost coming back to life as his foot twitched where it was hung over the arm of the chair he was on.
"Uh-huh." Jack answered taking a sip of his beer and choosing to ignore his male friend entirely. "And so, Carter, if they stood hand in hand all the way around the equator what do you think would happen? Would they reach all the way around or what?" He sketched the air lazily with his un-bottled hand.
She looked askance at her pensive, or rather 'just thinking' CO and smirked slightly. She just could not resist giving him the answer that had popped into her head. "Actually Sir, I really doubt it. I mean if the human population stood hand in hand around the equator...a significant portion of them would drown. So no, I don't think they would reach all the way around."
There was a prolonged moment of pointed silence before Daniel started snickering. Sam was just about to join him when the bottle cap that had been idling in Jack's hand bounced off the side of her head. "Oh just shut-up Carter...I mean seriously, just shut-up!"
"Well I'm sorry, Sir, but you did ask." she laughed as she retrieved the cap and playfully threw it back at him.
"Yeah I know but..." Jack scowled at his 2IC and then even harder at the archaeologist who appeared to have turned into a giggling five year old. "T?" Jack tried, looking for some support.
The big man tilted his head around only slightly then indicated the spinning image of Earth that was being projected onto the TV screen. "Major Carter is correct. It would appear that a significant portion of the central band of your world is made up of collective oceans." Teal'c interjected with an almost imperceptible cat-like grin.
"Yeah Jack. Sam's right, they would drown." Daniel added, his pitch still just a little over an octave higher than usual as he clutched at his sides.
Another beat of silence followed and then Jack shoved himself to his feet. "Oh you are all just really very smart aren't you?" he sneered playfully at them. "Just for that, no more beer for any of you. I'd be afraid that you might just drown!" The sarcasm dripped off his words as he grabbed up the most recently procured six pack from the 7-11 on the corner and carted it off towards the fridge. Which is exactly where it should have been in the first place.
"Oh come on!" Sam complained lightly.
Daniel's voice only slightly overlaid Sam's as he spoke, his tone identical. "Ja-ack! Don't be like that!"
A slight raise of an eyebrow indicated Teal'c's indifference to the idle threat.
"No!" Jack teased, a grin spreading across his face now that he was out of sight. "My house, my rules...and I don't want any of you to drown."
Daniel pouted for a bit but Sam just shrugged. "Meh, we could always just go over to my house. It is north of here, further away from the eq-equator." she laughed, enjoying the friendly banter and taking another swig out of her still almost full beer.
"But it is closer to the reservoir." Daniel pointed out. "We still run the risk of drowning if we are not careful."
"True." Sam was forced to agree, her eye catching and holding the dancing blue eyed gaze of that of her friend.
Teal'c straightened his back slightly and observed his two casually sprawled out comrades. "Or it is that we could simply refrain from the holding of hands?" he proposed.
"Ahhhh!" both the doctor and the astrophysicist agreed in unison, the solution was so simple after all.
Meanwhile, still leaning on the doorjamb behind them with his arms crossed Jack just smirked in defeat and shook his head. They really were such geeks at times, even Teal'c! Although having said that he had to admit, even though half the time he himself wanted to drown them, he loved spending time with every single one of them. They really were the best team he had ever had. Besides, this level of ganging up on him deserved some serious payback and with what he had planned for later on that was exactly what was on the cards...quite literally he mused wondering where he had hidden his specially marked deck.
