Maxine
I lost my composure as soon as I turned the corner. I stormed up to my twin brother who was busy talking to his roommate, Nathan. "Hey Maxine," Nathan smiled, "My sister is looking for you."
"Uh, thanks Nathan." I said, "I'll get to her in a minute, I just need to have a word with my twin."
I then dragged my brother around the corner. "What's the big idea trying to embarrass me in front of those new students?!" I demanded, "They were new, I wanted to help them!"
Max rubbed his face and leaned close to his sister. "The black and red one worries me! Don't ask me why, but he just doesn't sit right with me." he said, "Look, just be careful, okay? I don't want you to get hurt!"
"You give me the same excuse every time there's a boy I have an interest in!" I said, glaring at him
"Ugh, whatever. Just stay away from him. I don't like him." he said, ending the conversation by abruptly walking away.
I stood there trying not to let my anger get the best of me. Once I was calm, I slowly turned on my heels and walked to the girl's dormitory. I walked until I saw 217, my new home for the year. I then felt my phone vibrate from my pocket and saw one text. I got a surprise for you! it read. I opened the door and shrieked in excitement.
"How's it going you?" a voice said
Standing by the desk was a green rabbit with orange eyes, black hair in a braid and lime sneakers on that horribly clashed with her uniform. "CALI!" I said, hugging my best friend
Cali and I have been friends for a very long time. We spent most of our childhoods either playing at her place or hanging out at mine. "Despite being very different in personalities, we got along so well. "I can't believe we're roommates this year! It's like a dream come true!" I breathed
"And guess whose our next door neighbours?" Cali said, dragging me to the room next door
Cali knocked on the door and turned to give me a grin. The door opened to reveal a yellow bat with orange curly hair and pink eyes wearing high heels and jewellery with her uniform, and a blue cat with brown hair in traditional Japanese pigtails and green eyes. "Luna, Natalie!" I squealed
Luna moved from New York when Cali and I were grade seven. She had lived in the nicer neighbourhoods and was forever into fashion. Natalie had moved to Japan when we were in grade eight. Nobody could pronounce her real name Nashiko, so we gave her the English name Natalie.
"Hi, Maxine!" Natalie smiled, giving me a gentle hug
"I can't believe this, we're all living next to each other!" Luna said, twirling around the room
"And it gives us an opportunity to rehearse more!" Cali added
The four of us decided that we would take a shot and form a girl band. We spent hours coming up with names until we decided on the name Young Candy. We came up with our first hit single, Primadonna. We sent a sample of our song to a recording studio and they requested we come up to record it. After that, we heard our song every time on the radio. People were soon asking for an album, so gave them one, with our hit single included. So long story short, we have finished our summer tour and are working on our third album.
Like our name, we decided to use stage names named after different types of candy. Natalie was the sweet one in the group. She was kind, somewhat shy, graceful, and delicate. We call her Cotton Candy and she plays the bass guitar. Luna was the sassy one, with her sense of fashion and big city attitude. We liked to call her Cinnamon Swirl and she played techno keyboards for us. Cali was the sporty one, she loved to play sports and was captain of the girl's basketball and soccer teams. We decided on Orange Taffy and she played drums. I was the lead singer and I played lead guitar. I was more of the rebel of the group, as I had no particular style. They called me Blue Raspberry.
"Well, we're finished unpacking." Natalie said, "Why don't we help Maxine unpack and then grab our instruments for rehearsal?"
"Awesome!" Cali said, giving a thumbs up
After twenty minutes of fooling around and finally getting my stuff unpacked, we grabbed our instruments and headed to the school auditorium. I wheeled around the corner and accidently slammed into someone, sending me flying backwards. "Oh my gosh!" I stammered, "I'm so sorry-"
I looked up and saw the same red and black hedgehog from before. He was holding out his hand and helped me up. "No, I'm sorry." he murmured
"No, no. It's my fault...uh." I began
"Shadow. Shadow the Hedgehog." he said, "I'm kind of lost a bit, my apologies."
"Shadow. Anyway, I'm really sorry." I said picking up my instrument, "I would, uh, love to stay and help you. But I have rehearsal. But where are you headed?"
"Room 207."
I pointed down the hallway. "You're in Girl's Dorm. But don't worry, just go down the hall and turn right. Keep going until you see a sign that says Boy's Dorm." I said, "Hopefully that helps."
"Maybe I can watch you rehearse sometime." he offered, "As a thank you for your help."
"Uh, yeah. that'd be awesome." I said, hiding my blush
He bowed his head and walked down the hall. My friends looked at him, then at me. "Oooh!" they teased
"Someone's got a crush on the new boy!" Luna joked
"He's actually really handsome." Natalie smiled
"I can actually see you guys dating!" Cali laughed, nudging my arm
I just waved them off, but I deep down I knew that they weren't lying.
