Maxine
We began setting up for rehearsal in the auditorium. It had only been three weeks since we ended our tour, but we wanted to be on top of our game. My brother came in and tried to lecture us about how we should go to orientation and help out the new students. Luckily, Luna snapped back and told him we needed rehearsal time alone.
"Thank you... he's becoming to clingy and too demanding lately." I sighed, once he stormed out, "He even yelled at me when that Shadow guy was talking to me earlier."
"Whatever, he needs to learn his place." Luna said, plugging in her keyboards
"Hey guys, can I show you my new song? It's sick!" Cali said, pulling out some music
I looked over Cali's music. She surprisingly had good stuff to write about. "Lips Are Movin'...sounds promising." I said, handing it back to her
"I have a rapping segment. Then you take over the singing part, while these two sing the back up." Cali explained
"...Okay, we can try that-" I began
"Can I try the solo?" Luna asked
"Sure. Give it a go." I smiled
Cali gave us the beat, Natalie gave us the bottom chords, and Luna and I followed suit. Natalie and I started singing together.
"If your lips are moving, if your lips are moving
If your lips are moving, then you're lyin', lyin', lyin', babe
If your lips are moving, if your lips are moving
If your lips are moving then you're lyin', lyin', lyin', babe"
Cali took over and began to rap as best as she could.
"Boy, look at me in my face
Tell me that you're not just about this bass
You really think I could be replaced?
Nah... I come from outer space
And I'm a classy girl
I'm a hold it up
You full of something but it ain't love
And what we got is straight overdue
Go find somebody new"
Luna took over and sang. She seemed to do this song justice.
You can buy me diamond earrings
And deny-ny-ny, ny-ny-ny, deny-ny
But I smell her on your collar so goodbye-bye-bye
Bye-bye-bye
We sang the rest of the song, and agreed that Luna would sing the part while Nat and I sang back up. Cali was just glad we liked her song and more than happy to rap for us. "Okay, we'll record it at the studio, and send it off to our agent. He has to like that one." I said, "I still can't believe he denied Party Go Boom."
"Well, he liked it when we rewrote it." Natalie pointed out, quietly, "I enjoyed how we named it to Bang Bang."
She went over to backpack and pulled out the song. Our agent liked it, but told us to keep practicing before we recorded it. Cali struggled to get the rapping down while I tried some of the higher notes in it.
"Let's go from the second chorus, before Cali's part." I suggested, "It'll give you some build up to go from there."
We rehearsed for an hour and decided to take a bit of a break. I walked around and observed orientation. There were freshmen who were looking a bit lost. I couldn't help but smirk, I had the exact same looks they had when I was a freshman. I saw some people that looked like Juniors, like me, looking a bit confused at first, but overall looked like they understood what was going on. Then there was Shadow, talking to a blue hedgehog and a silver hedgehog.
I couldn't help but sigh, growing a bit shy. First day of school, and I already had a crush on one of the new students. I wrapped my cardigan around myself tighter, feeling a bit self-conscious about my looks. "I wouldn't worry about it, sweetheart. You look amazing enough as it is." A voice declared
I turned and found a green hawk standing beside me. He was wearing his uniform and bit more freely and had goggles on his head. "I'm Jet." He said, confidently, offering his hand
"Maxine." I said, taking his hand.
I had expected a handshake from Jet, with him looking like a skater dude and all. But he took my hand and gave it a tender kiss. I blushed insanely and shyly pulled my hand away. He grinned and winked at me. "You are really cute." He said
"Uh, thanks." I said, "So...you new here?"
"Totally. But I'm not too worried." He explained, "I just hope I can have fun here and not study all the time."
"Don't worry." I smirked, "It's never a dull moment at this school. We have sports teams, AV Club, Glee Club, Drama Club-"
"I love drama!" he said, perking up
"So do I. We mostly do musicals, but this year we're doing Footloose." I said, feeling my nervousness fade away, "I'm auditioning for the role of Ariel."
"You would make a great Ariel. I'm hoping to be Ren." He said, "I could see us working together to make a great musical."
"Really?" I asked, "Well, good luck at auditions then-"
"Jet! Get over here!" a purple swallow called
Jet sighed in frustration. "I gotta go. Wave doesn't want to go on this tour alone!" he said, walking away, "Catch ya later, cutie."
"Okay, later Jet!" I called
"So, you're into bad boys?" a voice asked
I turned and groaned in frustration. "No, Max. I'm not into bad boys. Jet was actually very sweet to talk to. And Shadow is very polite." I argued
"Jet is worse than Shadow." He snapped, "Jet is nothing but a player, and he constantly harasses Sonic and his friends. Shadow doesn't like Sonic either."
I chose to say nothing and just walk away. I didn't need to hear another lecture from my brother. I walked down a quiet hallway to clear my thoughts. "School is going to be so unbearable." I sighed
I thought I was going crazy at first, but soon it was louder. I could hear music, contemporary music, from a single violin. I perked up and realized it must be Shadow playing his violin. I eagerly walked down the hall to the boys dorm. I grinned when I found the source of the music.
It was Shadow. He was playing Music of the Night from the Phantom of the Opera. I gently knocked on his door. He turned sharply and stopped playing, relaxing when he realized it was me. "Hi." I smiled, "I hope I'm not interrupting. But I would like to hear you play, if that's alright."
He nodded his head and gestured for me to take a seat. So that's how I spent the rest of the afternoon, listening to violin music, and forgetting my worries. I could take care of them tomorrow.
