MAI'S P.o.V

I stood at the stove, waiting for the tea to boil while Kimi sat silently on the counter swinging her legs back and forth. Neither of us spoke, not knowing what to say, so the silence was only broken by the whistling of the tea pot. I poured tea for everyone, handing Kimi hers, and we set off to the room.

"Mai..?" Kimi said as I was putting hand on the door knob, "I think the person that is haunting this area, is that little girl."

I nodded knowing she was right, "I know it is. I just don't understand why she would be. I mean I guess being... murdered... is a good reason to but I feel as if there is something we aren't seeing."

We walked silently the rest of the way, and kept it even after entering the base. There was something in the back of my head nagging at me trying to tell me something was not right. I sat down, not noticing the look Naru was giving me.

"Mai."

I looked up to meet his eyes, they looked as if he was staring into my soul, but I didn't reply instead I stood up and began to walk to the door no real destination in mind.

"Mai, where are you going?" Kimi asked standing up and grabbing my sleeve.

"Yes, where indeed?" Naru asked, not moving from his spot.

"Nowhere really." I said softly, "Just a walk." The need to get away was growing stronger, I had to be somewhere. I just had to.

"I'll go with you." Kimi said, as she began to get closer still holding onto my sleeve.

"No!." I said a little harsher then I had meant to, "No. I need some air, I need to think. I will be back soon."

I pulled my arm from her and slipped out of the room before anyone had the chance to say another word. I started to walk down the hall and soon out the front door of the apartments. My walking soon turned into jogging, then a full on sprint. I had no idea why I was running, I had no idea where I was going, I just knew that I needed to.

"Mai!"

Naru's voice rang clear in the air, but I ignored it, and kept running until I was in the forest, zipping through trees. After a moment I closed my eyes, feeling exhaustion. I didn't slow down, but I managed to keep from hitting anything, as if I knew where everything was.

As if I had done this all before.

Almost to suddenly my legs came to a halt and I collapsed to the ground trying to catch my breath.

"Mai!"

"Mai where did you go!?"

I heard Kimi and Naru shouting for me, but my body was way too tired. I heard footsteps coming from behind and figured Naru had finally found me. But when the person came into view I saw the feet were way too small to be Naru's or Kimi's, in fact they looked as if they belonged to a child. I lifted my head as much as I could and my breath caught in the back of my throat. In front of me was the little girl from my dreams, blood pooling steadily from her as if her wound was fresh, but her face was falling off and green.

"Mai." She whispered.

I barley let out a scream before everything went dark.

NARU'S P.o.V

I heard Mai scream, but it sounded like it was cut off. What the hell was wrong with her? She came back to the base obviously knowing something, then she ran off. Now she is in trouble again. She's always doing this. I slowed my run as her body came into view, I breathed a sigh of relief as I saw that she was breathing fine.

"Mai oh my god is she okay!?"

I rolled my eyes and ignored the panicking girl. Did she think that I would be this calm if I didn't think she was okay?

"We need an ambulance! Call the hospital, Oh my gosh Mai!"

"Shut up." I said as I picked up Mai and walked pass her back towards the base.

"Sorry if I actually care about Mai you asshole."

I inwardly flinched at that comment but didn't lower myself to respond to it and I just continued to walk to the base.

MAI'S P.o.V

I laid down in the grass letting the wind blow again my bare feet. This was an amazing feeling, I couldn't help but wish my daddy was here. The sun was shining bright and it made my pink dress shine. Times like this were the best, though I knew I needed to be home soon. I learned my lesson last time I wasn't home when mommy got home. I sat up and shook the grass out of my hair, and skipped back towards my house. I went back and forth through the trees, the way I always did. The way daddy and I always do. I slowed to a stop as horror took over me. Mommy's car was in the driveway. I backed out of view from the house weighing my options. I could hide out here and wait until daddy comes home in a few days, or I could take my chances with mommy. I turned around deciding to wait, when I felt a hand on my arm. I turned around and fear struck me and I saw my angry mother glaring at me.

"Who said you could leave the house?"

My breathing quickened and I struggled to pull away from her, but her grip only got tighter.

"I asked you a question Miaka." She smacked me across the face, "You had better answer it before I get angry."

She wasn't already angry?

I started crying, and it only seemed to make her angrier.

"Shut the hell up you little brat!"

She let go of my arm and went for my neck but I was too fast and got away. I ran through the trees the same way I had come, hoping to slow her down. I didn't look back. I soon came to my favorite tree, the one not even daddy could climb, and I jumped on it. I managed to get just out of reach as mommy got to the tree.

"Get down here now!"

I climbed higher, before deciding to perch about fifteen feet from her. After a few minutes of her yelling she finally walked away, but not without telling me not to come home. I held the tree and cried until things slowly faded to black.

I couldn't see but I continued to cry and pulled my legs to my chest. I soon felt a hand rubbing my back and I looked up to see Gene staring at me.

"Are you okay Mai?"

I nodded feeling the dread leave my body, "Was that her memory?"

Gene smiled at me, "You tell me."

I knew it was, so I just stared, "Then why is she doing this stuff?"

"Is she Mai?" he put his hand in mine, "Wake up."
