Mitobe didn't think much of his underclassman being a girl. Riko was girl, and they got along just fine. Having another girl around wouldn't really change anything. He accepted her as another sibling along with his four new younger brothers. Like Mitobe, Kuroko is silent. Well not as quite, Mitobe never uttered a word and at least his kouhai spoke when talked too directly. But that was okay, Kuroko was one of the very few that didn't question his silence and the two communicated easily through nods, small smiles and gentle pats on the back/shoulder/head.
If there was one thing he immediately noticed, it was that Kuroko had terrible head hair. Her hair that usually hung straight and chin-long was sticking up in all sorts of directions and whatever wasn't sticking up was a tangled mess this accompanied with slow blinking, sleep dazed doe eyes. Since the blunette was usual neat in appearance, it was almost surreal to see her in a state of disarray, if Seirin hadn't been at one of their training camps no one would ever know how messy she was in the morning.
Somehow, it made Kuroko more endearing. More life-like, less like a doll.
Mitobe had a large family; he had an abundance of little brothers and sisters who he loved equally. Having sisters meant that Rinnosuke knows all about little childhood crushes, easily fixed squabbles and, more importantly, how to fix hair. The two teens stared at each other for a moment before Mitobe took the hair brush from his kouhai's hand and proceeded to untangle and brush the bird's nest that was Kuroko's hair. The two sat in a comfortable silence for about 10 minutes before Mitobe was able to arrange the bluenette's hair into some semblance of order.
"Thank you for fixing my hair Mitobe-senpai." The small girl bowed her head slightly in gratitude, smiling slightly when the upperclassman simple nodded and gently pat her head. His kouhai's smile of gratitude was more than enough for him; he'd gladly brush her hair anytime.

Alex is smirking, like she knows some big secret. And neither Kagami nor Himuro like it. At all. "So is there anything you want to tell me about your…teammates~?" Kagami growls, "The hell do you mean by that?" Himuro smiles prettily, "Atsushi is cute and likes basketball." He offers, ignoring his brother's eye rolling and scolding to not answer Alex because then she'll never learn to not ask those kinds of things.
"Oh introduce me to her! And you Taiga? You seemed pretty close to Kuroko. She's small and cute." Her eyes glint like a cat who's found a particular good canary.
"That's not even the half of it; Taiga says she's his shadow." Himuro adds, looking pleased with himself when Kagami glares at him.
"There is nothing between me and Kuroko," And he wants to punch Tatsuya in the face because he just snorted at him, "We're teammates!" and no he did not stomp his foot like when he was ten, shut up Alex. "So she's not your shadow?" Alex grins at his (adorable) childish behavior, sort of reminding her of a little boy who denied his crush via tantrum. Her apprentices are as cute as when they were ten. "No-I mean yes, Kuroko's my shadows but-quit laughing!" By this point Alex is laughing loudly and Himuro is alongside her, not laughing but giving Kagami an exasperated, sly look. Why is he friends with this guy?
"You know what, feed yourselves! I'm going out!" He stomps to the door, "With Kuroko?" Tatsuya adds, and Alex practically doubles over in amusement and he gives Himuro the finger while slamming the door closed. Where the hell were those two getting the idea that he had a crush anyway? Kuroko was his partner and best friend. That's it. He could imagine that both his teacher and brother were probably up in his apartment looking through all his things and gossiping about his non-existent love life. What did he do to ever be cursed with both their presences in one day?
Hmm…Maybe he should call Kuroko and they could play basketball and maybe eat later at Maji Burger? That sounded good and this way Kagami wouldn't have to come back to his apartment filled with two people making misguided assumptions.

Touou stares and stares. This really couldn't be happening. They're being pushed back and they're actually losing. Imayoshi can't think of a time where he's had to wrack his brains for an idea, Wakamatsu's never sweated so much in his time on the team; it takes everything he has to keep up with Kiyoshi. Susa has to focus as much as his strength as he can into just guarding Kagami and he feels somewhat frustrated because at this point against this Seirin, that's all he can do. Sakurai has never wanted to win so much as he does now, he makes shot after shot and he feels almost angry because Hyuga's making his shots too and is showing no signs of stopping or missing. Momoi is panicking. He's never seen Touou pushed this far and while he has done his best to prepare them and his information is never wrong, they're still losing and Seirin seems to be getting better every minute they play and Momoi can't come up with a defense or plan that could stop them. But a small traitorous part of him is happy and excited. He looks at the court-
Aomine is smiling.
She has a fire in her eyes that hasn't been there since the early years of Teiko, a spark has been relit and the growing joy on her face means one thing. Aomine is having fun. She looks over at Tetsu and feels grateful; Tetsu has brought her what she's always wanted. Someone that's just as or more amazing than she is and Aomine's enjoying this challenge.
Kagami is the best.
Touou is losing. And she can feel the crippling effects of the Zone aching in her muscles and bones but she plays harder. Now that she's re-experienced this wonderful feeling of finally being pushed and challenged, she wants to win. Nothing is better after a hard game than winning a close game and she wants it so bad. But Kagami is matching her every move and she knows he's reached his limit too.
It all comes down to Tetsu's final pass.
Whoever catches it will be the winner. She watches as the ball sails closer and they both jump at once to reach it-
Kagami gets it (it's like the final straw, Tetsu's telling her that her passes, which used to be just for her, are now for Kagami and Seirin only).
And before she knows it, the buzzer sounds.
Touou has lost.
Seirin has won.
Tetsu and Kagami have won together.
Aomine has lost; it's a refreshing feeling though, she's almost missed it.
Aomine will get stronger. She doesn't like losing.
Next time, Touou will win.

"I think I may be getting sick."
Aomine and Kise's heads whipped around to Kuroko who calmly continued to dibble the basketball. "What?! Kurokochhi's sick?! Don't worry I'll take care of you!" Kise wailed, rushing the small girl and hugging her reassuringly, "Oi if you aren't feeling well than you shouldn't have called us out to play!" scolded Aomine, shaking her head before walking over and pulling the blond off of the smaller girl. She placed one hand on Kuroko's forehead, "You don't have a fever. How do you know you're sick?"
Kise pouted at the taller blunette before gasping, "Maybe you've got some horrible internal disease! We need to get to the hospital!" Both Kuroko and Aomine gave her deadpanned looks, "I doubt Tetsu's dying." She paused, "You're not are you?" Kuroko sighed, "Don't be ridiculous. Of course I'm not dying."
Kise's tears dried, "Then what is it? What are the symptoms?"
Kuroko stayed silent, thinking about her response, "Well, sometimes my hands get sweaty when I'm not playing basketball and my face tends to heat up too without reason. Also my heart beats really fast at random moments. It's quite annoying sometimes."
The three girls stayed silent for several minutes, "I got squat." Aomine breathed out first before glancing at Kise whose sunny yellow eyes were narrowed, "Kurokocchi when you have these symptoms is there anything that's around you that causes it? Like are you always outside? Or…with someone?"
Kuroko tilted her head slightly in thought, "I haven't really paid attention to my surroundings but most of the time I'm with Kagami." Aomine felt her eye twitch at the mention of the red-head, "So you're saying that Bakagami has something to do with Tetsu being sick?"
"What about when you think about him?" pressed Kise, ignoring Aomine's snide remark, if Kurokocchi had what she thought she had then Aomine wouldn't be laughing for much longer. "Sometimes." Kise blanched dramatically, "No! Kurokocchi y-you can't b-be in…!" She whispered the last word in a chocked voice throwing her arms around the blunette and hugging her tightly, crying into her shoulder.
"Poor Momoicchi! What's he gonna say!?" The blond continued to wail, her grip tightening on the smaller girl.
"…"
"Are you stupid? There's no way Tetsu likes Kagami that way. Right Tetsu?" Aomine looked desperately at her ex-Shadow. There was no way Tetsu of all people would fall in…ugh just no, she cringed at the word, and with Bakagami of all people. No. Just no way in hell.
"I do like him." This prompted Kise to wail louder and Aomine to look like someone had just shot her.
"A-re you serious?!"
"Kurokocchi no!"
"Yes, he is my friend so of course I like him."
"But-"
Ringringring
Kuroko dislodged herself from the model's hold and dug went over to her sports bag and pulled out her pale blue cell phone. She opened it and stared at it for several seconds, reading the simple text message.
From: Kagami
To: Kuroko
Subject: Hangout
Hey, want to play basketball at the court by the school? We'll go for Maji Burger afterwords, my treat.
"Who is it? Is it Kagami?"
"Kurokocchi, he's asking you on a date!"
"Yes its Kagami and no he's not asking me on a date." She ignored her two friends in favor of typing a quick reply and then putting her phone into her short's pocket. "Are you going to meet him? 'Cause if you are then we need to find something for you to wear-"Aomine glared at Kise, "Weren't you just against this? Why the hell are you trying to set them up now?" Kise rolled her eyes and gave the dark-skinned girl an exasperated look. "Because it's cute. I mean Kagamicchi is good looking and Kurokocchi is really adorable anyway-"
"I don't need to get dressed for basketball. And this isn't a date." Both girls ignored her in favor of arguing and she sighed. Since when did playing basketball with a friend constitute as a date? Kise was ridiculous, Kagami was just her friend and there was no way he harbored any feelings stronger than friendship with her. And it's not like Kuroko felt strongly about him either, he was just a really good friend, nothing more, nothing less.
Her friends were ridiculous.
