Continues from Ch. 20:
"Oh Dai-chan you look so beautiful!" Momoi squealed snapping a quick picture on his cell phone ignoring the growl aimed towards him. "Sakurai you're really talented, the dress suits her well!" Momoi praised, the brunette nervously scratched the back of his head, "O-oh it's nothing really…"
Susa smiled approvingly, "You really did a good job, people will defiantly come."
Wakamatsu stared red faced at the dark skinned girl.
Imayoshi gave an appreciative whistle, "You look good Aomine-chan."
Aomine's face grew red, "Shut th- Oi! Satsuki are you taking pictures?!"
Momoi hummed and took another picture, "Of course, you look amazing!"
Sakurai gave Aomine a nervous look, "Y-You really l-look nice Aomine."
Aomine crossed her arms and huffed. Glaring at her image in the mirror; she wore a well-fitting, soft white dress that reached just above her knees, the sleeves rested diagonally leaving her shoulders bare, the neckline fell into a deep v –neck that stopped short of her chest. A deep blue sash was tied at her waist into a simple ribbon, her neck adorned with a white lace necklace where a round blue stone hung. Since her hair was short all Satsuki had been able to do was brush it out of its usual messy locks until the strands hung around her face. Aomine had only allowed lip gloss to be applied and put her foot down when the male had wanted to put mascara on.
Aomine reluctantly admitted that she did look good, but the image of her dressed in things that Kise would fawn over seemed wrong to her.
"Let's get this over with."
~.~
The gym had been converted to a homely café; the court was littered with tables filled with laughing teenagers, the team dressed in semi-formal attire worked as waiters while she worked at the entrance welcoming people in cause she was just oh so cheerful!
Pass byers chatted around her, some staring open mouthed while a few of her female classmates complimented her dress. She'd glared openly at some guys when they wolf whistled at her but Wakamatsu quickly told her to cut it out on the account of customers being put off by her glare. She noted that the blond hadn't even bothered to look her in the face.
Typical.
All in all Aomine was fucking uncomfortable; she was not the kind of girl to wear stuff like this. She wasn't Kise who gushed happily over designer cloths, or Midorima who took proper care of her hair and nails, or even Akashi who could wear anything anyway she wanted and have heads turning.
She was the one who threw that kind of thing away in favor of basketball. In basketball no one could say that she was lesser because she was a girl, or that she should be fetching towels instead of being handed one. On the court, she was invincible and everyone could see that. Outside, all people saw was a pretty face. She could remember how angry her mother had been whenever she came back home after a day of games coated in sweat and dirt.
"Dai-chan lunch break." Satsuki placed his hand comfortingly on her shoulder, giving it a slight squeeze. Damn him and his 'women's intuition', always knowing just what she was feeling even before Aomine said anything.
She hastily grabbed her lunch and went inside the never used girls' locker room across the gym, Aomine wasn't in any mood to deal with her male teammates and luckily Satsuki took the hint that she wanted to be alone and instead followed the rest of the team to the boys' locker room.
"Ah here you are." Imayoshi greeted, ignoring the glare the blunette shot at him. "So care to explain why you're in here on your lonesome instead of at our lunch meeting?"
"As if you actual expected me to go." She snorted.
"You're right; however that doesn't explain why you've holed yourself up in here instead. Especially with that face."
She growled, "What's that supposed to mean."
He sauntered into a chair across from her, "It means that you looked upset during work, up until now and I'm interested in the reason."
"Maybe I didn't want to deal with boys staring at me like idiots."
The older teen's face slipped into a slight frown, "Does it bother you that much? This isn't the first time people, especially boys, stare at you."
"That's on the court, this is different."
The two stared at one another for several tense minutes, neither one willing to let the other win. He'd never noted it before but his kohai's eyes where a rich blue, like sapphires, the light colored dress forced one to truly note Aomine's soft looking skin and her hair looked silky compared to the unkempt mess it usually was. Momoi had been right when he said Aomine looked beautiful, one wouldn't expect her to be a nationally ranked basketball player. But judging from the girl's foul mood an-
"See? That right there." The blunette spoke suddenly, startling Imayoshi out of his thoughts. "Excuse me?"
"That face, the dumb look guys get when they see a girl."
Imayoshi frowned, "Is it wrong for males to admire your outer features?"
The blunette flushed slightly, "N-no, but they're stupid about it. I'm not Kise." She hissed.
"What if I told you 'I think you look beautiful' the same 'stupid' way that other people do? Would you try to punch me?"
"Let's find out." She replied lazily.
"Well before you punch me let me say this: You are pretty when you dress up but personally I think you look better playing basketball."
Aomine stared at him hard. "Lunch is over." She said stiffly, depositing her barely eaten food into the trashcan.
He smirked lightly before following her out.
~.~
"We made good business." Wakamatsu said helping Susa count the day's earnings. "Hot springs here we come~" Momoi chirped, putting away banners into boxes. "E-everyone, we have a lot of leftovers so you guys are welcome to them if you want." Sakurai offered, the brunette laid stacked tupperware containers on the table.
"I'll take one of those." Aomine reached out and snatched a container, already feeling better now that she wasn't being displayed like a doll. She'd never felt more grateful for her shorts and plain-shirt. "Where are you going?" Wakamatsu demanded, noting that the blunette had her bag slung across her shoulder.
"Home idiot, I'm tired."
"Dai-chan wait for me!" Momoi scolded lightly, grabbing his own bag, scrambling to catch up to the girl.
"Aomine-chan~!" Imayoshi called out, waiting until his kohai stopped.
"You didn't punch me~!"
He laughed as the tanned girl wiped around and flipped him off before stomping out of the gym.
~oOo~
Kise knew she was pretty. She had to be in her line of work, perfect and poised and socially open to everyone and everything. And while her line of work paid good money and fun to do, there was always a flip side to it.
A ninth anonymous letter from a stalker was one of them. Especially when said letter was in her locker. A locker that was constantly surrounded by at least 20 sweaty guys.
"This could be a problem."
"You think?!" Hayakawa screeched, "This is creepy!"
The blond shrugged listlessly, "It's not the first time…"
"This is your locker-!"
"What are you two screaming about? I swear every time we come back for a visit you two are always yelling about something."
Moriyama slung his arms around both their shoulders, "Practice is over right? Let's get dinner, Kasamatsu's treat."
"Oi! I'm not paying for any of you!"
The blond girl brightened, "Yay! Kasamatsu-sempai's treat~ " Then just because she could she launched herself onto the fuming university student. Predictably, he spluttered indignantly, "O-oi idiot! Get o-off!"
"But I've missed you so much and I'm really happy to see you!" She whined
"W-woman!"
"I'm jealous; to be missed by a lovely lady like Kise...Kasamatsu doesn't appreciate…" Moriyama sniffed pitifully. Hayakawa nodded next to Moriyama before he remembered the issue at hand.
"Kise what are you gonna do about this?!"
The blond huffed and pouted, "Nothing at all, it's best to ignore this kind of thing." Finally deciding to let the black-haired male go, a flustered Kasamatsu was so much fun.
"I-ignore what?" Kasamatsu breathed, not even bothering to reprimand the girl, she'd do it again regardless of how hard he pulled her hair. Ever since he'd graduated from Kaijou (maybe since he retired from the team), Kise had grown increasingly bolder in her 'affections' towards him.
Hayakawa handed it to him, "Someone's been sending her letters and it's the ninth one and it was in the locker room! She's being stalked!"
Kise scowled, "I'm not being stalked, eventually he'll get tired of sending letters and will approach me himself-"
"You shouldn't wait for some guy to approach you." Nakamura piped in, "What if it's some creep?" Moriyama winced, "Maybe you should tell the police or something."
"How long has this been going on?" Kasamatsu demanded.
"About a month-"
"THAT LONG?!"
"You guys worry too much, if it's some creep then I'll kick his butt. And if he's not crazy I'll let him down gently and tell him I already have a boyfriend."
"You're going out with someone?!"
"Alas I was too late…!"
"…"
"Who is it…"
Kise slapped her forehead, "I don't actually have one! That's just what I tell guys that are a little bolder!"
Kasamatsu snatched the letter from Hayakawa, "Still, don't joke about that if it isn't true! You just give people the wrong impression!" Regretting the words instantly when Kise fixed him with a contemplative stare, a sly smile forming on her face.
"So what Kasamatsu-senpai is saying," She slipped into his personal space, her voice a low purr. "Is that I'm not allowed to have boyfriends because you might be jealous~?" Kasamatsu's mouth hung open uselessly, mouth instantly going dry. This close he noted with slight disdain that Kise was a bit taller, her soft glossy hair, bright orbs and he could distinctively detect the scent of something sweet.
"N-no of course not! Have boyfriends for all I care!" He managed to choke out, scowling at the small forward until she backed off.
"No fun at all~"
"Kise are you sure you should ignore this? This looks serious." Moriyama interrupted, frowning heavily at the letter's content. "It's probably a student since the campus is closed off even after hours." Nakamura said thoughtfully, Hayakawa gave the girl a triumphant grin.
"See? Told you!"
Kise pinched the bridge of her nose, "Guys it's really sweet that you care but this isn't a big deal! I can handle this."
"Brat," Kasamatsu swatted her arm, "we know you can handle this but that doesn't mean we don't worry about you. Just know that we'll be here when you need help, got it?"
Kise stares at him; despite the embarrassed scowl and the slight pink of his cheeks his eyes are warm and the determination in them says everything that he doesn't. Not for the first time, she feels a rush of affection for him.
A quick glance at the other teens reveals agreeing grins and equally warm eyes.
They cared and it almost startles her (it always did), how they can care for her beyond basketball.
But looking into her (ex) Captain's face; steel blues staring right into her own, mouth set into an oddly gentle smile, his cheeks only holding a faint red tint (he was getting better).
She giggles, how could she ever doubt them?
~oOo~
"She knows."
Mibuchi raised an eyebrow, "Sei-chan knows what?"
Mayuzumi huffed and rolled his eyes, "She knows we followed her."
Mibuchi froze and didn't register the clatter of his pencil falling onto the ground. "Please tell me you're getting a sense of humor." The third year frowned, "No im not joking and did you really expect her not to know?"
"No, the only thing we can do now is accept Sei-chan's wrath." Mayuzumi nodded, "Should we tell the other two idiots?"
Mibuchi shook his head, "They'll panic and make it worse."
"I don't think it can get much worse."
~.~
Despite Mibuchi's misgiving (Mayuzumi disappeared the second he warned the second year, his class wasn't far and he didn't intend to leave it for the rest of the day), Akashi said nothing all day. Since a three day holiday was expected, practice was hard but short, and still the Point Guard said nothing.
He didn't know if to be frightened or relieved.
"Sei-chan where are going?" Mibuchi watches as Akashi picks up her sports bag instead of heading towards the dorms. "I'm heading to Tokyo for the holiday."
"Ehh? Again? You went last week too!" Hayama said, balancing a basketball on his head. Akashi glanced at him and Mibuchi and something gleamed in her ruby eyes that sent a shiver down Mibuchi's spine.
"Yes I did, did you follow me then too?"
And maybe he should have followed Mayuzumi's example.
"N-no just…that one time…" Hayama mumbled, looking like he'd run out the nearest exit at the first sign of movement.
"Sei-chan we didn't necessarily mean to follow you…"
"Yes you did, Nebuya said as much."
Stupid brute.
Akashi crossed her arms and scowled lightly, reminding him very much of an angel about to deliver its wrath.
"Care to tell me what possessed you to follow me?"
Mibuchi and Hayama gulped, "W-well S-Sei-chan…"
RingRingRing
Both males released a sigh of relief when the red head turned away from them to answer her phone.
"I'm surprised you called…"
"Hey Reo-nii we should make a run for it while we can!" Hayama whispered. "Idiot what's the point if she'll find us? We can't hide from Sei-chan forever."
"But still…"
"That is great news, we haven't heard from him in a while. We should talk more in person I'm actually on way to Tokyo. Alright, I'll see you then." Akashi hung up and leveled her teammates with a glare, "Well talk about this when I come back. Until then prepare yourselves." Satisfied when they nodded meekly she left.
"We're doomed." Mibuchi said resolutely.
This one was longer than the last huh...
Thanks for reading, until next time~
