"You've been studying a lot with Imayoshi-san." Momoi comments nonchalantly one day during lunch, "The tests are a few days away, how do you feel?"

Aomine yawned, "Good I guess. I'm still gonna use Midorima's pencil. Why?"

Momoi shook his head, "Just saying that you've been spending a lot of time with Imayoshi-san that's all."

"So?"

"Nothing just that after these tests are over Imayoshi-san and the other third years are gonna be busy with graduation and we probably won't see them for a while."

Aomine stopped stretching, "I know, he told me." She scowled when she noticed that Momoi kept staring at her. "What?"

"Remember that time when Ki-chan came to the gym?" the pinkette said instead. Aomine narrowed her eyes suspiciously, "Yeah, she was screaming about stupid stuff."

Momoi sighed and pinched his nose, "Dai-chan what do you…never mind."

Aomine rose an eyebrow at Satsuki's dismissiveness but shrugged, there was no way she was going to have those kinds of conversations with Satsuki. Having Kise constantly text her message after message about what she could wear the next time she saw her senior or where were they going was annoying enough.

~.~

Except it wasn't the last time she hears about it, when she's not busy cramming more information into her head, Satsuki makes casual comments, 'Dai-chan how was your shopping trip with Imayoshi-san?' or 'Remember to write down any questions you have, I'm sure Imayoshi-san can help you figure them out!'

Then to make matters more annoying Kise, who should have been engrossed in cramming for her own tests, texts her on a constant basis. And Aomine can't block her because then she runs the high risk of Kise coming to Touou in person and that is a mess she is unwilling to deal with again. Kise usually texts her around the same time that Satsuki is making his weird comments or during her short study sessions with Imayoshi in the library.

It's so annoying and no matter how many times she tells them off it seems to encourage them more. By the fourth day of the week long exams, Aomine is convinced that Kise has somehow convinced Momoi to her side on this issue (she remembers how Momoi in Teiko gave a boy, who'd come onto Aomine a little too strong, food poisoning with homemade cookies).

The two are in cahoots either way and sometimes she deliberately turns off her cell phone and ditches Satsuki by hiding away in the west wing's Math department with Imayoshi who listens with an attentive ear and a bottle of Pocari for her ready.

Once she gets home, she's met with Satsuki whining about leaving him behind again and why is her cell phone off because Ki-chan has been trying to call you all day and he's been worried sick because Aomine has managed to hide away from Momoi all day. Asking why has she walked home alone this late at night, did you not remember what happened last time you walked home by yourself this late?

Aomine won't admit that Imayoshi walked her home even though he lives half an hour the other way. She won't admit that sometimes she spends her class period thinking about the next time they'll get to play a few rounds of street ball (he's getting better the longer he plays against her, a small part of her preens at that). And she'll never tell anyone about how sometimes they spend sleepless nights (whenever he's hit with a slight case of insomnia) texting and calling each other about the most random of things (the latest was their plans to go fishing once Imayoshi has his first university break).

She knows that if she snaps at him, he'll just give her an innocent sly smile 'What are you talking about? I haven't said anything!' Then she'll just get another one of Satsuki's patent lectures. Those are to be avoided at all costs. Besides, if Aomine snaps, then Momoi and Kise win.

Aomine doesn't like losing, even if it's not basketball.

Kuroko is drenched in sweat and her muscles are begging for her to stop, a tiny voice in the back of her head is whispering This is impossible, what was she thinking, that her unremarkable self could go against Akashi that she could ever have a chance- Her heart was screaming in protest, pounding against her ribcage This is our only chance, we can win. Don't give up-

But she's tired and around her she can tell that her teammates are running on nearly empty and Akashi and Rakuzan look as if they haven't even sweated and are still standing strong looking down at them from their noses. But she's so close. The other Akashi is back, this makes the match so much harder but it's a step closer to her goal that Kuroko can almost taste it. All she has to do is play just a little more but she's so tired and Akashi, even in her more stable state is just as strong as or better than the other Akashi.

"KUROKO YOU CAN DO IT! DON'T GIVE UP!"

The stadium fell deathly silent and Kuroko doesn't have much difficulty pinpointing the source.

Tears well up in her eyes as she gazes into Ogiwara's warm determined gaze, she hasn't seen him in over a year and the last time she saw him he'd looked at her with a pair of traumatized full of disbelief, fear and utter despair. But it's unmistakably him.

She whispers his name and she can faintly hear Kagami mutter something before looking up towards him, "So that's him…"

Suddenly Ogiwara grins widely and holds up a basketball in his hand, and she marvels because he's holding a ball again and looks utterly happy doing it. He'd quit and his middle school captain (who's standing next to him) told her how Ogiwara couldn't stand to play anymore, told her how the whole team destroyed their own equipment.

But he's holding up the basketball proudly (lovingly) and smiling so wide that his face threatens to split- She takes in a shuddering breath and her tears spill over and she can feel herself smiling up at him.

Then Aomine yells from the stands. Standing tall and proud, her gaze willing Kuroko and Kagami to keep going. Then Kise and Midorima follow suit, she notices Murasakibara stand resolutely support in her stance if not in her voice. The stadium picks up again, and every word spoken is like a shock of adrenaline and warmth that's fills Kuroko with the belief that they can do anything.

When Kuroko looks away from Ogiwara she notes her teammates standing next to her, united again.

Across the court Akashi is smiling, pleased that the match wasn't over yet, Seirin was ready to fight again and she couldn't help the thrill that hummed in her bones.

"It's no fun if this match didn't continue like this."

"You seem content these days, something good must have happened to put you in this kind of mood." Midorima commented absentmindedly, carefully considering her pawn's next move. On the screen Akashi hummed. "Oh I am." She smirked slightly, "I thought you didn't engage in gossip."

Midorima moved her piece. "It's not gossip to ask how a friend is doing."

"No, I suppose it's not. Shutoku has done you wonders." She overtook the other girl's pawn. It was surreal seeing Midorima of all people admit her feelings, if Akashi was honest, it was refreshing. If not for the small tilt of her lips into a small frown anyway. Even from a computer screen Akashi could tell that something was bothering the shooter. And that in itself was saying a lot because everything bothered Midorima.

"But you seem kind of upset today, did something happen?"

Midorima paused and her lips set into a fierce scowl, "I trust you've heard of Kise's current escapades."

"I have." Murasakibara had actually called and took several minutes to complain about how Muro-chin always stared at his phone looking at a picture of her from middle school when she dressed up for the play. The last time she spoke to Kuroko the blunette told her how Aomine was under siege by Kise and (surprisingly) Momoi's combined efforts.

"I take it that means she paid you a visit." Akashi really hoped that Murasakibara was mistaken when she told Akashi to watch out because she could be next and Kise, when in the mood to 'improve' their social lives, was a demon. Akashi had no desire to deal with this Kise.

"Yes she 'visited' and did nothing but screech about utter nonsense!"

"What did she do?"

"Well for one thing, she manipulated my new captain into letting her in despite the fact that I used a weeks' worth of selfish wishes just so that she wouldn't come in! But why should we be surprised? When has a boy ever told Kise 'no'? Then she accused me of getting jealous of her because I found out she and Takao text each other on a regular basis-"

Akashi raised an eyebrow, "That sounds jealous."

"-Then she accused me of having romantic feelings for Takao of all people-"

"But you do like him don't you?"

Midorima's face burned but chose to ignore the comment.

"Then she practically told him that he should confess his feelings to the girl he likes-"

Akashi nodded, "Which I'm pretty sure is you."

"And before I could kick her out she shouted that I have feelings for someone in front of everyone!" The tall girl finished in a huff, squeezing the yellow stuffed panda around its neck. No doubt imagining it was a certain blond model.

"I get that Kise's antics annoyed you but if I can make a point? You do have feelings for him don't you?"

Midorima glared, "And what has given you all that impression?"

Akashi smirked a little, "What hasn't given me that impression. And hypothetically, if you have feelings for him and he obviously feels the same for you, what are you afraid of?"

"Nothing." Everything. Her mind whispered, she could lose the smooth play on the court, late afternoon talks on the way home, Takao's booming chuckles as they spent several hours searching for the day's lucky items. The ease of falling into Takao's easy going ways, only to realize that she was having fun and didn't care about what was proper behavior and what wasn't, late practices that ended with Takao gently brushing her hair while she taped her fingers.

Akashi gave her a sympathetic smile, "You two could play basketball forever, but eventually wouldn't you want more?"

And maybe that's what they didn't want to know.
