"I don't want to."
"We have to. Do you want to show up dateless? It's the first dance of our college life; we have to come with someone!"
"I already have a date so…"
"Good for you Kobori, but Kasamatsu and I don't! They just runaway when they see me coming or tell me that they've already been asked."
"If I was a girl I'd run at the sight of you." Kasamatsu said coolly. Ignoring the 'romantic' in favor of his home work for his social studies class.
"How can you worry about homework due weeks from now in such dire times? We've only got two days!"
"I don't care."
Moriyama sighed, how could Kasamatsu be this naïve? Didn't he realize the social importance of showing up to the dance with a fair maiden at his arm? At this rate Moriyama would have to take drastic measures.
He resolutely goes to his phone contacts and presses the call button.
"Hi Moriyama-senpai~! How are you~? How's basketball practice~? Are Kobori-senpai and Kasamatsu-senpai with you~?"
Moriyama couldn't help smiling at the girl's rapid questions. "Hello Kise, everything's great and yes they're both with me right now. We have a serious problem though." At the mention of their junior's name both Kobori and Kasamatsu snapped their heads towards him.
"What's wrong?"
"Our first university dance is in two days, Kobori has a date already, can you believe that? But any way neither-Hey!" Moriyama's finger's tightened over his cell phone when Kasamatsu, who finally realized what he was going to do, lunged across the table to snatch his phone away.
"Idiot you can't ask-!"
"Yes I can! Kise are you listening to this?!"
"Kasamatsu-senpai? Hi~! You should call me more~!"
"Kise hang up the phone and don't pick up any of this idiot's calls!"
"He needs a date! I need one too! H-"
"Shut up! You can't call her to help you with something so stupid!"
"It's not stupid! Kise, introduce me to a girl please! I've been working on the things you said I have to fix-!"
"Really? That's great, no problem I have a few friends that owe me a favor…What about you Kasamatsu-senpai?"
"Guys…" Kobori piped in quietly, noting that passing people where staring at Kasamatsu and Moriyama wrestle for the phone. How embarrassing, why did he hang out with these two?
"Sadly, he hasn't done anything you've said! Ow! Don't bite me!"
"I don't need a date! For the last time Kise hang up the phone!"
Kise hummed on the line, "Nee Kasamatsu-sempai's situation is pretty bad, so it'll be good if I go with him myself…alright I'll be your date to the dance senpai!"
Kasamatsu reddened and chocked, Moriyama cheered happily and Kobori slumped in his seat, bring his book up to cover his face.
"W-wait n-no! Kise I di-"
"Does senpai not want to be seen with me…?" Kise voiced sadly, Kasamatsu could practically imagine her teary eyes and wobbly lips.
Why was he so weak? "I didn't say that! I don't give a shit if people here see me dancing with you or whatever we do."
"Really? It's a date then~" Her voice perked up quickly, and dammit why is it that even when Kise was miles away she could still control him?!
"I'll send you the details later." Moriyama chirped, backing far away as possible from Kasamatsu.
"Okay bye senpai~" The blond hung up and the occupants of the small table fell into silence.
Kasamatsu glared, "I hate you."
"You'll thank me for this." Moriyama sniffed indignantly.
"Why do I still hang out with you two?" Kobori muttered.

Kise smiled cheerfully, "And that ladies, is how it's done."
"Kise's powers are to be feared." Kuroko commented, sipping her milkshake. Aomine stared at the model in disbelief. "You just conned him into a date."
Kise shrugged, "This is why I don't have to worry about my love life. Now you two-"
"Don't even start!"

"Takao what did you do!?"
Takao whipped around, "I'm not admitting to anything unless I know the charges."
Miyaji frowned and flicked the freshman's forehead, "That." He jabbed his fingers towards, surprise, Midorima.
Midorima, who's normally already playing, is standing in the middle of her half of the court ball clutched tightly in her hands while she outright glares at the basketball hoop like it's done her a personal wrong. The air around her is charged, dark and screams 'stay away or else', he can tell because the others are giving her a bigger leeway than usual.
He's never seen Shin-chan so scary.
No wonder the senpai are concerned. Someone could die.
Takao holds his hands out, "Don't look at me; I had nothing to do with that!"
"Shocker, go find out why then!" Miyaji snorted, "At this rate everyone else is too afraid to practice properly!"
"Eh? Why me? What if she kills me?"
"Because I said so! And out of everyone other than Otsubo you have some immunity. So go fix it!" The blond stomped away muttering about annoying freshmen and fruits, Takao looked at his goal and gulped. Shin-chan looked really mad.
The others who overheard the conversation sent him pitying looks. He took a deep breath and decided to retrieve her favorite chilled can of red bean soup; hopefully she'd spare him at the offering. Now he just had to approach her delicately.
"Oi Shin-chan~" He greeted; almost flinching when the tall girl shot a glare at him, sheesh he hadn't even said anything yet! All the more reason to approach this delicately.
"What's with the scary face? Someone stick a love letter in your locker again?" That had happened once. Shin-chan glared heatedly at the innocent envelope and promptly threw it into the trash in front of everyone. Takao could have sworn he heard a small whimper somewhere in the back. Midorima didn't hesitate to use one of her selfish requests to request the full use of the indoor court. This meant that everyone else was condemned to the searing outdoor courts; some of his paler teammates still bore sunburns from that day.
Her grip tightened on the ball, "No," she said stiffly, "I'm going to practice outside. By myself." She added when the raven haired teen moved to follow her.
Takao blinked, "Okay, whatever you want Shin-chan." Guess she's having a bad day or something. She'll get over it.
How wrong he was.
~.~
It only took Takao another two months to realize that Midorima went from being in a mood to being wholly unpleasant every third week of the month.
Takao would have laughed if not for the chance that Shin-chan would kill him if he did, and during that time Shin-chan was just…well mean.
Luckily he wasn't the only one who realized the pattern because when the dreaded third week came, the team resolved to do their absolute best to stay out of Midorima's way and to not mention anything to her face (even Miyagi-senpai avoided yelling at her). Of course this didn't keep a few sympathizers, Takao and Kimura, from offering water bottles and bags of mixed nuts* (all from the Kimura Family Produce store).
While she gave them a skeptical look, Midorima graciously accepted their offerings.
Takao liked to think that he didn't imagine the slight upward tilt of her lips.

The smell wakes her up before her alarm does, something warm and lightly sweet.
Murasakibara's hazy amethyst eyes peaked open, a quick glance at her phone showed that she'd woken up before her alarm. She still had another thirty minutes…
"Atsushi? Oh you're awake! Good morning."
Or not.
Muro-chin smiled pleasantly at her and she could instantly tell from the way his single eye crinkled at the edges that Himuro was excited about something. She sat up and stretched, "Don't get up yet, wait right there." He ordered when he saw the movement. Himuro left the room before Murasakibara could question him.
He came back not even a minute later with a bed tray laden with western breakfast foods (bacon, eggs, orange juice and pancakes). He laid it across her lap, "Happy birthday Atsushi." Then wrapped his arms around her shoulders in a hug, one of his hands fiddling with the edges of her hair. If Murasakibara wasn't busy examining the food in front of her she might have thrown him off. Muro-chin was smooth.
"Thank you." She mumbled once he released his grip on her, "Tastes good." Murasakibara said thoughtfully, almost grudgingly. The pancakes were her favorite so far: warm, sweet and fluffy "Good to hear, I haven't made pancakes in a while so I wasn't sure if you'd like them."
"You can cook?" She questioned, her eyes a little more attentive than before.
He nodded, "I've been told that I'm good. But I don't cook often."
Murasakibara pouted, "You've been holding out on me."
"You never asked, you could ask me anything you know." He added coolly, watching her eyes narrow slightly. "It's too early to be sneaky Muro-chin."
Himuro laughs.
Murasakibara really can't complain about his motives, the pancakes taste really good.
~.~
It wasn't until she was mid-way through her second class that Murasakibara realized that she has never told anyone when her birthday was. How had Himuro known what today was, he'd asked once and she'd ignored him (not that it deterred him apparently). But she was a hundred percent sure she'd never once told him even though he badgered her about the date for a week.
She'd ask him later.
Himuro was waiting for her at their usual table lips tilted into a smile that made most girls swoon (at least that's what she's heard). Surprisingly he stood when she sat down, "Sorry I have to meet with a classmate right now, but I got you lunch." And laid a tray heaped with the cafeteria's finest foods (often too expensive for her). Murasakibara expected him to leave at that point but Himuro stood there, looking at her expectantly.
She looked down at the tray and noticed that nestled among the various treats was a small white box tied shut with a gray ribbon. Apparently a homemade breakfast in bed wasn't enough. Muro-chin was practically bouncing in place, "Aren't you going to open it?"
She carefully opened the box and gently pulled out a thin-chained necklace with a cupcake pendant that had tiny diamonds that represented chocolate chips. It was shiny and cute, the sort of thing Kise would have stopped to admire and gush over.
"It's cute." Murasakibara admits because she likes cupcakes; the clasp was a little too small for her fingers though. Muro-chin knows that.
"Here." He moved behind her and took the necklace then gently parted her hair and brought the chain around her neck and clasped it closed. His hands barely scrape the back of her neck but it's enough to send a shiver down her spine.
"It looks good." Himuro complements.
She nods and gives him a sweet bun in thanks.
"See you at practice."
~.~
"Surprise!"
She almost flinches back at the volume, a Happy Birthday! Banner hung behind them on the wall, her teammates surrounded a table filled with food. Himuro stood in the middle holding a cake.
"Sixteen years old huh? I remember when I was that young…" Okamura lamented, clapping Murasakibara on the shoulder. Fukui snorted, "When was that? 50 years ago? You look old Captain."
"How did you know what today was?" The center finally questioned, accepting a plate with a slice of moist yellow sponge cake. "Himuro told us." Wei Liu responded, "How he knows I do not know. However this party isn't just for you either. It's for him too since his birthday is also this month. Celebrating this way saves time and costs."
Murasakibara hadn't known that. "Muro-chin." She called lazily. Himuro shrugged, "You never asked. It's October 30th though, why?" He looked vaguely satisfied, Murasakibara scowled. Muro-chin was getting smarter and she was slipping.
The back of her neck was still pleasantly warm from lunchtime.
"Enjoy this day off; Winter Cup is less than a month away." Coach Araki stated, "We have a lot of preparation in store for us."
Hope you guys enjoyed!
Until next time~~!
