St. Mungo's was a maze of a hospital. There were many floors and so many departments that Sirius could not find his way. He was desperately trying to find the labor and delivery ward, but St. Mungo's was so big that he was having trouble.
"Padfoot! Padfoot!"
James Potter was running toward him, jet black hair as messy as ever, tired, and with a huge grin on his face. Sirius had never seen James look quite so happy.
"Prongs! Where's Lily? Did she…?"
"Yes, she's had the baby! Come and see!"
James took off along the corridor with Sirius in tow. So much had changed since he met his best mate on the first day at Hogwarts so long ago. James had had an arrogant air about him, but he had changed so much. He was still the messy-haired guy that he had always been, but now he was more refined, he had his Lily, and now, he had a bouncing baby boy.
"Harry James Potter," James said as he picked up his child, grinning from ear to ear, glowing with a radiance that could put light into the darkest corner of the world. Sirius looked over at Lily. She looked much the same, with her red hair everywhere and her eyes tired, but she looked so very happy.
"Be godfather?" James turned to him, eyes imploring.
"Of course!" Sirius said as James handed him baby Harry. He looked into Harry's eyes, which were carbon copies of Lily's, and he felt honored to be this baby's godfather.
He would never let anything happen to this child.
Sirius buried his head in his hands. He had failed James and Lily. He wondered what they would say if they saw him now. Thirteen years in Azkaban, and now, his godson was missing. How could he let this happen? He wasn't sure what exactly was going on. He had sent a letter to Harry, but he had not received an answer yet. He had run away himself when he was sixteen, and he knew how hard it had been, until he managed to find his uncle. He worried about Harry. He worried about everything.
"He'll be alright, you know," Remus walked up behind him and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Harry's brave and strong. He is the best of Lily and James, and he has two best friends on his side that make up for his weaknesses. Harry will be alright, Sirius. James would be proud of him. He's faced death four times, and survived,".
Sirius wanted to believe Remus but he couldn't. Voldemort was out there, and he would stop at nothing to make sure that Harry wouldn't survive his fifth encounter.
