Diagon Alley looked the same as ever to Harry, yet, he felt like he was thirteen years old again, running away from the Dursleys again. He followed Ms. Bones silently as he contemplated this, and he was so swallowed up in his thoughts that he didn't even notice her speaking to him.
"Harry? Harry, dear, did you hear me?"
"Sorry, what did you say?"
She smiled and repeated her words, "I said that I was going to the Apothecary for a healing potion, and I was asking where you wanted to be dropped off,".
"Oh, I was thinking maybe at the Leaky Cauldron? But I know that it's in the opposite direction, so I'll stay with you until you're done with your errands,".
"Oh, you're such a dear, just like your mother. This way, then,".
So they continued, past the children ogling the latest broomstick, past the silky robes hanging in Madame Malkin's, and finally past the books in Flourish and Blotts. He was reminded of Ron and Hermione, curling up in their favorite armchairs by the fire while they did their homework, or, as he chuckled to himself, Hermione let them copy off of her. He wondered if he would see them anytime soon.
The apothecary was misty and dodgy, located at the end of the alleyway in Diagon Alley. He had only been there a couple times, to pick up potions supplies.
As Ms. Bones walked up to the shopkeeper, Harry wondered around. He saw many different potions of various shapes and sizes, and then, he saw a curious one. In the moon shaped bottle with green liquid, he saw the reflection of two men in a back room. Curious, Harry followed the shadows to an alcove, at the back of the store. Pretending to look at some potions on a shelf, he listened in.
"He knows we're following him! I say we grab him now, perhaps the Dark L-"
"Shut up you idiot! Can you imagine what the Dark lord would do if any of the Order were following him and we lead them straight to our hiding place? You wouldn't live to see the results, that's what! Wait, where'd he go?" said one of the men as he looked up to make sure Harry was still standing in the same spot. The only problem was, Harry was much closer to the men than they had anticipated. He locked eyes with Harry for a moment.
Harry paled and realization dawned on him. He looked up to try and find Ms. Bones, and she was still happily chattering away with the shopkeeper. He knew that if he raised his wand, he'd only have a chance for one spell. It was either the shopkeeper and Ms. Bones or him.
The last thing he saw was the look of horror on Ms. Bones' face from the other side of the shield as he was hit with a red light.
