She was covered in cold sweat. She looked to her left and saw Connor and Andrew sleeping soundly. She was the only one who'd had the dream.

She went over the events in her head, shivering. The gorgons…her sisters had sent them back to Tartarus. Andrew had promised them redemption and their sister back, only to have it ripped from their fingers suddenly. She needed fresh air, so she climbed out of bed and opened the balcony, entering it. If the dream she saw was any parallel to real life

"Then my sisters are terrible. My sisters are terrible and I can never let them catch me." She could imagine the torture them evoke on her before they killed her. If they can kill me, she corrected herself. She remembered Bia's words then: "Even though you are supposed to be unkillable, there always seems to be a way." Well, Eirene would make sure there was no way.

She was distracted from her thoughts as the air in front of her shimmered and rippled. Heather soon appeared, squinting at Eirene's figure.

"Eirene? Is that you?" She whispered.

Eirene blinked, caught between being happy Heather contacted her but also confused as to why. "Heather?" She could tell Heather was standing outside her cabin, trying her best to stay quiet. "What's wrong? Is something up?"

She had her hair pulled back into a tight ponytail, and her eyes were serious. "I need to talk to you about something important. Are the boys nearby?"

Eirene turned around to make sure Andrew and Connor were still sleeping. "No. They're asleep."

She nodded. "Good. Because Matthew's missing, and I think I know exactly where he's gone."

"Matthew's missing?" The first person who came to mind was Sam, and how she'd react. "Does Sam know?"

Heather shook her head. "No, but she'll find out soon enough. He went missing after today's game of monster hunting." She took a deep breath. "Listen closely to what I'm about to tell you, because we don't have much time."

Eirene nodded, and Heather told her story.

"During the game I was hiding up in a tree, ready to shoot any monsters in my vision when I saw a Matthew wandering in, arguing with a Kobalos. It was complaining about its stolen valuable; A necklace, of some sorts. He said that Dennis had stolen it and that if he didn't return it by sundown that he'd have hell to pay. Matthew kept denying it, saying he didn't know anything about the necklace and that Dennis didn't steal it. The Kobalos left after giving Matthew another warning, but he said it so quietly I couldn't make it out. Either ways, before the sun had gone down Matthew had gone missing. And I'll bet all the drachmas in the world that he went to warn Dennis."

The story got worse and worse as Heather went on, and Eirene didn't know how to respond when she was done. Truthfully, she'd forgotten all about the Kobalos and its stolen valuable, and that Dennis had it. Could it be how he's evaded them for so long? The necklace…did have some sort of power? And now Matthew had escaped the camp, when he'd promised not to leave…How did this all clue into her prophecy?

Heather seemed to read her mind. "Earlier…when you asked us all to promise not to sneak out…when you said it could 'potentially save the world' where you referring to your prophecy? Did it say something about us three?"

Eirene nodded, though there was no time to explain. "Indirectly, I think it was referring to you three, though I can't be sure." An Archer, a Thief, and a Scholar shall rise…the description fit Heather, Sam, and Matthew but Eirene knew that prophecies sometimes had double meanings.

"Prophecies are sketchy like that. But Eirene, if Dennis really did steal the Kobalos's necklace…"

"Does it have some sort of power? Is it dangerous?"

Heather shook her head, rubbing her arms from the cold. "I don't know, I've only heard stories about it. The Kobalos race are a wise one, and whatever pendent they have would reflect their wisdom. Whatever it is, if Dennis has it, you have to get it back from him before he uses it."

Eirene ran her hands through her hair in frustration. "But how? I don't even know where he is!"

This time, Heather smirked. "We couldn't track Dennis down because he wasn't on our database. But Matthew is, so finding him is a snap. And if you find Matthew…"

"Then I find Dennis." Eirene finished. She wanted to reach through and hug Heather; she was a genius! "That's perfect! Do you know where he is?"

Heather told Eirene that she knew the Elon, Satyr that had helped accompany Matt to camp, (Since satyrs retained their charge's scent long after they've delivered them safely to camp half-blood) but he was away in the forest, visiting his family.

"I know this seems like a goose chase, but if you find Elon he'll be able to tell you where Matthew is. When you find Matt, you'll find Dennis. It's probably best to scrap that 'bakery' plan you had earlier. If he's already warned Dennis about the threat, he would have been smart enough to pack up and move already." Just when she was telling Eirene of the forest where Elon was residing, Heather's image started to flicker.

Eirene rushed to speak. "Don't let Sam find out about Matthew." Because she'll want to go after him

"I won't." The image faded even more. "Be safe, Eirene."

And Eirene was left to her thoughts once more.

Connor woke up some time around eight, and surveyed the room. Andrew was still fast asleep on the floor, and Connor snorted. He'd offered him the other side of the bed, since it was a king, but Andrew insisted he'd be better on the floor. Well, it's his loss. Connor thought. I'll be well rested while he has to see a chiropractor.

He looked around the rest of the room, and noticed that Eirene was missing. He immediately sprung out of bed, checking the bathroom.

"Eirene?" He knocked. No answer.

He looked out the balcony, but she wasn't there either. Where the hell had she gone?

Before he started to panic, the door clicked open and she came in, holding a plate full of breakfast— what looked like pounds of eggs, bacon, French toast and biscuits.

"I love you," He said, staring at the plate of food. "I really do."

She suppressed the heat rising to her cheeks. "Good morning to you too,"

He took the plate from her, and began devouring it as soon as he sat down.

She reached over to where Andrew was, and tried to shake him awake. She needed to tell them there was a change of plans. They were no longer blindly searching for Dennis, but would instead find Elon, who would eventually lead them to Dennis.

Eirene let out a sigh, this was a lot of information to throw at them, including Matthew's disappearing act. She shook Andrew harder this time, calling his name louder. He didn't move. Was it his fever? She crouched down to his mouth, but his breathing wasn't heavy or strained.

Connor threw a biscuit and it landed on his eye. He stirred, causing Connor to throw bacon at him. Eirene was about to scold him for wasting food when Andrew opened his eyes slightly. "Why does my face feel oily?"

"Because you wouldn't wake up," Connor answered. Andrew yawned groggily, and wiped the breakfast oil on his face. He gave the bacon a strange look.

"So you decided to throw pork at me?'

"It woke you up, didn't it?"

Eirene interrupted before the petty argument grew into a fight. "I have something to tell you two." She sat down on the bed, bouncing briefly before she dropped the bomb on them.

"Matthew's gone missing."

Andrew didn't look surprised, but Connor reacted without delay. "Missing? From camp?"

She nodded. "Last night, Heather contacted me via Iris message. She said he'd gone missing and she—"

"Thinks he went looking for Dennis," Andrew finished. He snorted. "Typical."

Connor threw him a dirty look before looking back at Eirene. "Continue."

"She says that if we can find Matthew, then we can find Dennis. It would take us in a whole new route, but at least we'd have a direct destination."

"As in…?"

"Heather says that Elon, the satyr that brought Matthew to camp, is away in the forest visiting his family. If we can find him, he can tell us where Matthew is, and then we'll find Dennis and be done with this quest."

Connor was rustling his hair, obviously frustrated. "But it doesn't make any sense! Why would Matthew go looking for Dennis on his own? Why would he runaway from camp?"

To warn Dennis about the Kobalos looking for him, She didn't know whether she should tell them about it or not. It would paint Dennis and Matthew blacker than they already were.

"Isn't it obvious?" Andrew perked up. "He thinks he should have been chosen for the quest instead of one of us, because he knows where Dennis is." He swore, hoping off the bed and going to stand by the balcony. "We should have questioned him before we left." He looked back at Eirene. "When did he leave? Yesterday?"

"Yes, around sunset, Heather said that's when she noticed he went missing. I don't think many people know."

Connor agreed. "But what's changed? Why did he leave yesterday and not right after we did? Why wait another day?"

She didn't want to destroy that light in Connor's eyes. He'd already been lead to believe Dennis had betrayed the camp, and now to tell him Matthew could be working for him? He'd lost too many friends already, but it would make her a bad friend if she didn't tell him. "He went to warn Dennis."

Connor's eyes shot up. "Warn? Warn him of what?"

She took a deep breath, wary of Andrew's eyes on her. "Back at camp, during a game of monster hunting, I came across a Kobalos that accused Dennis of stealing a pendant of his, a pendant that's very scarce to their race. Yesterday Heather said she overheard Matthew speaking to the same Kobalos, and how it told him if he didn't return the item back to them by sunset he'd regret it. I assume Matthew left camp so he could warn Dennis about the threat."
