Ch.14: The Adventures of Blaiziken Mask and Gligar Boy!

A lone puddle in Lumiose shone from the one of the cities many streets. Through the gleam of light that bounced off the puddle, two figures could be seen standing atop a three story building.

"What the hell are you supposed to be, Gligar man?"

"Gligar man? You know about Gligar man!? He's been my favorite superhero ever since I was a little kid."

"Don't tell me you jump of buildings every night in that" Paul asked. Suddenly, a strong gust of wind passed by, forcing Paul to struggle to stay on his feet. He looked down without any real thought and realized they were pretty high up. Not Prism Tower high, but still high off the ground.

Meyer responded with beady eyes and by rubbing his neck, "well…"

Meyer then suddenly bowed his head, "Please don't tell my son, he would be so upset."

"What the hell is this? Some kind of early midlife crisis gone horribly wrong?" Paul kept a blank stare while considering what else to do.

"Fine then, I won't tell him" Paul said. Meyer sighed in relief. His eyes then followed Paul as he moved to the corner of the edge of the roof, looking as if he was ready to jump.

"What you waiting for" Paul began when as a small grin appeared on his face, "let's go."

Meyer gave a Paul a perplexed stare, which quickly turned into shock when Paul took a few steps back before running and jumping the space between Meyer's shop and the next building.

The gap between the buildings was not that large, but not small enough to be jumped so easily, something that Meyer seemed very worried about.

Paul landed cleanly on the next building almost making it look easy.

"Paul, what are you doing?" Meyer asked from the roof of his home.

A rough smile crept across Paul's face, "I'm not entirely sure. Seeing you like this reminds me when I was younger, just a kid. I loved to read stories about super heroes and such, you could say I looked up to those that I read in those stories, an orphan needs somebody or something to look up to, don't you think."

Meyer continued to listen, almost worried. He had only known about Paul for a short time, but he knew something was off.

"Though the heroes were not exactly the ones who I was interested in" Paul then turned on his heel and took off running along the roof tops.

"Paul wait! That's dangerous" Meyer and Blaziken went right after him,

"Has he lost it? He has no idea what he's doing, it just barely rained, his going to fall and hurt himself at some point."'

"Blaziken, go ahead and make sure Paul doesn't hurt himself."

"Bla-zi-ken" replied the Blaze Pokemon.

A young Purple headed boy sat at the bottom of a bunk bed reading a small book. He was clearly absorbed in whatever he was reading, which made the upcoming interruption that much more annoying.

A red haired and blue eyed teenager entered the room and found who she was looking for,

"Paul, I've been looking for you, you just left suddenly" she placed her hands on her hips.

"I got bored, and I wanted to read my book" he replied.

The red haired girl then crossed her arms, "What are you reading anyway, you've been glued to that book for a while?"

"It's a book about people with super powers."

"Ah, so you really like superheroes?" She asked curiously.

Paul shook his head in response, "not really, they get boring real quick. The villains and others are really interesting though."

Paul then followed with something that took the girl in the other room by surprise,

"I wonder what my parents are doing right now?" He said without looking away from the book.

She looked at him worriedly, "you really want to see them don't you?" she replied softly.

"Not really" Paul began nonchalantly, "Just a bit curious is all."

"Is it something you would like to talk about?" She asked

"No" he said simply.

Then there was an awkward silence. The red haired girl didn't know how to respond, she was just a volunteer after all. She then decided to quickly change the subject.

"I see" the red haired girl walked towards the doorway, "well come on, it's a beautiful day, and I brought Eevee today so that you guys can play together."

Paul took his eyes off the book for the first time and eyed the girl in the doorway carefully, "you brought Eevee?"

She nodded, "now come on."

"I don't kno-"

"Paul go outside and play or I'll kiss you on the forehead again."

"Gah!" Paul's face quickly turned into one of terror as he dropped the book on the bed, which had a pokeball pattern design. He then ran out of the door and down the hallway at the speed of light.

The blue eyed girl took a step down the hallway before folding her arms deep in thought, "must be hard to not know where you came from. Paul is tough but I just hope that toughness doesn't turn into coldness."

Paul continued to run without hesitation in a straight line, seemingly going nowhere. His fists were tightly clenched and sweat began to fall.

He was passing over buildings recklessly, not thinking about where he was stepping and he was constantly kept landing in in wrong places causing him to stumble and lose balance many times, but he kept on going.

Paul's luck finally ran out when he was about to jump another gap. He slipped on a wet spot causing him to lose his balance and fall off the building, towards the cement.

Paul grounded his teeth and prepared for a hard fall, but before hitting the cement a red and yellow blur came out of nowhere and caught him.

Paul went wide eyed and looked up; it was Blaziken. The Blaze Pokemon landed gracefully and placed Paul on the ground.

"Kid, what are you doing?" Meyer suddenly appeared next to Blaziken, "are you trying to get yourself killed, you weren't even watching where you were going."

Meyer was angry, but then he was able to see a pained expression on Paul's face. Paul forced himself out of Blaziken's grip before grunting and looked away. Paul then walked towards the street slowly without saying a word.

Meyer stood next to Blaziken not sure what to do next, he definitely couldn't go into the street at this moment though, so maybe the best thing was for Paul to have some time by himself.

Paul was about to leave the alley and turn the corner before he caught sight of two people coming towards the alley way, one male the other female.

They were dressed in all red; red suits, red pants, red hair, red glasses; they definitely liked the color red.

At first glance, Paul did not like anything about them. So he quickly stepped back into the alley and back towards Meyer. Meyer, who was now alone, gave Paul a confused look before he was yanked down by the purple haired trainer. Paul took Meyer behind a large blue dumpster which reeked of Muk out in the sun for way too long.

Before Meyer could protest or make any kind of noise, Paul put his index finger in front of his lips, to which Meyer nodded absentmindedly.

A pair of footsteps could be heard slowly making their way pass the dumpster, unaware of the presence of the roof jumping, mega Blaiziken wielding vigilante and his temporary purple haired sidekick.

The two figures made their way to the end of the alley, seemingly a dead end. But dead ends aren't all that they seem. The female, who had her bangs in some sort of flame shape pointing up, stepped forward and spoke up,

"A new beautiful world, only achievable through the fashionable flare gang, and only for the flare gang." Suddenly there was a low buzzing sound and too the surprise of the two unknown observers, a panel suddenly appeared on the wall, which contained both numbers and words.

The male, with a somewhat familiar hairstyle of the other person, quickly stepped up to the panel and quickly punched in a code which looked sophisticated enough.

The wall then opened up, the two red figures looking uninterested while the secret observers looked in surprise.

The bricks parted and create entrance for the two red figures, and the stepped into the wall and into what looked like complete darkness. The wall then soon converged again, closing the gap and once again looking like a normal alleyway.

The two behind the dumpster stared at the wall, almost blank faced.

"Interesting" Paul finally said after what seemed to be forever.

Meyer and Paul walked up to the wall, almost cautiously, careful of the unknown.

"Got any idea what this is about?" Paul asked.

"It's a new group that's been appearing around Kalos, mostly Lumiose. They keep rambling about a new and better world and how they will be the ones to create it. They've been ignored for the most part as far as I know. They haven't done anything wrong at all, as far as I know, but I would consider them a bit shady and I believe they're up to something."

"Shady huh" Paul echoed. He then took a couple steps forward, "To create a new beautiful world, only achievable through the fashionable flare gang, and only for the flare gang."

A panel immediately appeared on the wall of to the side, just as the two saw moments before.

Paul proceeded to punch in a code, and the same buzzing sound went off exactly like last time.

"You saw the code that they used and remembered it, just like that?" Meyer said in disbelief.

"Just seemed like the thing to do in the moment."

Paul and Meyer turned and faced the wall as it parted, giving them access to whatever was ahead.

"Superheroes first" Paul said with an outstretched arm.

"This is not a good idea Paul" Meyer began, "we have no idea what we're getting ourselves into, and you should definitely not be here."

"Come on, you need some evidence to accuse them of anything, and what better way than going into their big scary layer. And even if they do nothing wrong, where's your sense of adventure."

"My sense of adventure went out the window when you started acting like a mad man."

Paul looked at Meyer for a second before deciding, "Look who's talking. I'm going in".

Paul began to go before Meyer stopped him, "if you're going in there, at least wear this."

Meyer handed Paul a Gligar mask, to which Paul gave him a blank look,

"You can't be serious."

"Wear it or there's no way I'm letting you go in there. If they see your face and they turn out to be maniacs they'll hunt you down."

Paul took the mask slowly and looked at it cautiously. He then slowly put it on, "couldn't you at least have a Gliscor mask?"

"You see, it's not that bad" Meyer began, "I know declare to be known as Gligar boy."

"Shut up." And with that, Paul turned away from Meyer and began to walk inside.

"What if this place leads to the distortion world or something" Meyer followed.

"Then I'm sure Giratina would welcome the company."

A young Tyrantrum wiggled out of her bed and managed to land both feet on the floor. She rubbed her eyes and yawned tiredly.

Bonnie then flipped back her Tyrantrum hoodie back to reveal her blonde hair. She rubbed her eyes as she tried to shake off the cobwebs, "thirsty."

Bonnie glanced at Serena who was sleeping next to her, smiling as if she was having a good dream, which made a tired smile appear on Bonnie's face.

She then began to walk outside the room, her Tyrantrum tail trailing her and using the moonlight to guide her. She then made her way downstairs.

Bonnie, her eyes still half shut, went into the kitchen and got herself a cup of water. She then began to walk back to her room before something caught her eye. Down the hallway the living room was a lit, so the young blonde decided to check it out.

She peeked around the corner and found May sitting on the couch and holding what seemed to be half of a ribbon. Bonnie noted that she was gazing on it rather fondly.

"May" Bonnie yawned as before she continued, "I thought you were sleeping."

May heard Bonnie as she entered the room, "Bonnie? Oh I guess I couldn't sleep. How about you?"

"I was just getting some water" Bonnie said as she took a seat close to May.

Bonnie then laid her head onto May's shoulder and gazed at the ribbon that was in May's hand. The two sat in silence before Bonnie spoke up,

"It's a very pretty ribbon, but I thought you already showed me all the ribbons you had with you?"

"Well" May began as she brought the ribbon closer to Bonnie, "this one is a little different. It isn't an official ribbon; I can't use it to enter the grand festival."

"So why do you have it? And why is there only half of it?"

May raised the ribbon above their heads, "actually, it's called the terracotta ribbon and I only have half of it because someone else has the other half."

Bonnie looked at May and Bonnie had a gut feeling of what this was about.

"Who has the other half?" Bonnie asked.

"Ash" May said softly with a light blush evident.

Bonnie then thought hard about what she was about to say. Well actually, not really,

"So, do you want to be Ash's bride?"

May turned her head slowly to meet Bonnie's blue eyes,

"Heh?" May turned away, a furious blush appearing as Bonnie's comment went through,

"W-what are talking about B-bonnie?" May asked as she turned to face the girl. But she wasn't there.

"Oh nothing. I'll see you in the morning May."

` May could only watch as a Tyrantrum tail slipped around the corner of the doorway.

As our two heroes entered into the unknown, they were met by two large metal doors. After nodding towards each other they opened the door and where met with something just a little bit more than they expected.

Large monitors were on all sides of the room. The place was illuminated by floor glass that contained steady flames. The sound of machinery could be heard as well as murmuring from coming deeper in the area.

Suddenly a multitude of footsteps could be heard coming towards them. Meyer took a hold of Paul and pulled him behind one of the many machines in the area.

A group of identical individuals as seen outside by Paul and Meyer passed them silently.

"This place is insane" Meyer began in a whisper, "I can't believe there's a place like this right under our feet."

"Whoever owns this place must have deep pockets. Either that or these guys are really good at selling Girl Scout cookies.

"Alright Paul, this is way too risky. Let's just get out of here and-" but Gligar boy was nowhere to be found.

"Where did he go!?"

Paul stealthy moved place to place in the 'layer' making sure he would not be seen. He took it all in; he definitely knew this was crazy and dangerous, but at the moment he didn't give a damn.

He would be lying if he said wasn't amazed by the layer, so many gadgets and so much going on.

"What exactly is going on here" he thought to himself.

Paul became absorbed in thought and he began walk backwards, unknowingly nearing a control panel with a large monitor just as tall as Paul. He absentmindedly slipped one of his hands onto the panel and hit a button, causing the monitor to start.

Paul turned to as he heard the monitor start. The visuals then came into focus and he suddenly felt his entire being shaken at the power he was seeing.

The video seemed to be taken by an aerial view. A large, coliseum like structure surrounded the battlefield where it seemed a fierce battle between a Charizard and Blastoise was taking place. But something was different, and that difference was the Pokemon.

The Charizard that was battling was black and attacked with blue flames, while the Blastoise had two arm canons and one huge cannon on its back rather that the two that it usually has.

Paul stared in awe as these two Pokemon traded insanely powerful attacks. The battle was soon over though with the black Charizard defeated and the screen went blank for a moment.

"Were those mega Pokemon?"

Paul felt his chest tighten and he quickly placed his hand over his heart. His breathing became heavy and he didn't know why, but only one thought passed through his mind,

"That power; I want it, I need it."

Before Paul could go delve deeper into what he was feeling, the monitor came back to life and revealed a light blue eyed guy with a large volume of Purple and blue hair that covered most of his forehead. He looked like he meant business.

"Good job Alain, the readings that we got in that battle will be truly helpful" said the invisible owner of the deep voice.

"Thank you director, I will continue my search."

The screen went blank for the final time.

"Alain…"

Meyer finally found Paul in an empty room. He looked like he was in some sort of trance like state. Meyer decided to just grab him and go.

"Hey!" Paul turned ready to do anything to get free but once he saw the familiar Blaziken mask, he calmed down.

"Come on, we're getting out of here." Paul nodded in agreement, suddenly feeling uneasy like Meyer. They both began to move stealthily through the layer, trying to find their way out. But after a while of searching, they began to realize the true size of this place.

It also didn't help that there was plenty of red suited goons. Sweat began appear on both of them, not only because of the difficult situation, but the layer wasn't exactly at the ideal temperature. At some point Paul began to feel enough heat that he unzipped his sweater, revealing a plain black shirt.

After what seemed to be an eternity and a half, they had found nothing but dead ends. They began to take more risks moving from place to place, trying to find an exit but nothing. Where were the doors they came in!

Paul was about to turn a corner when he quickly jumped back, pushing Meyer away as well. Both of them stared in silence as a Houndour miraculously walked right past them without noticing, with one of the bald goons with white suits following.

Meyer made a motion with his head for them to go another direction. Paul nodded and began to move. Unfortunately Paul was not aware of a small table full of beakers and tube right next to him. He hit the table and caused all of the equipment break on the floor and make a mess.

The Houndour that just passed the two heard this and came back around and found Blaziken mask and Gligar boy. The bald goon followed the Houndour, finding our heroes as well.

"What are you doing here!?" He then took a few steps forward, "don't move" he warned as he took his red gloved hands and cracked his knuckles.

"Hey Blaziken mask" Paul began way too cheerfully, "I think we have the wrong evil layer."

Meyer looked at Paul confused but then he followed, "uh…Oh yes you are correct Gligar boy" he said painfully slowly, "we were actually looking for the evil layer on the...other side of town. You know team, um team, what was it again?"

"Team…aqua?"

"No, no no, team aqua is Hoenn, you know the whole too much water thing"

"Ah yes, 7.8/10, I remember it clearly."

"Yes, very much so."

The white suited goon could only sweat drop, frozen by the unbelievably stupid conversation in front of him.

"We apologize for the mix up" Blaziken mask and Gligar boy bowed politely in sync, "we'll show ourselves out." And with that, our two heroes ran off, leaving a dust cloud in their wake.

The bald goon stayed behind in a stupor, before he was able to react, "wait! Get back here!"

The goon ran after them with Houndour in the lead. He then brought the device that he was wearing on his wrist and began to speak into it,

"We have intruders in floor 2. Stay on alert for two individuals with stupid looking masks."

"I wouldn't be talking if I were you baldy" Paul responded as he ran, "you and your friends give Purugly some hope."

"How dare you mock the fabulous Team Flare!" The team flare member then took out a Pokeball and tossed it in front of him, revealing another Houndour.

"Great Paul, now there are two of them chasing us."

"Well, if you think about it, this is also your fault for having such ugly masks."

They soon turned a corner with the Houndours and the team flare member in hot pursuit. As they turned they found the two large metal doors they entered the layer through. They both had the exit in sight, but suddenly Paul felt something grab his sweater from behind and pull it off.

Paul turned his head and saw houndour with his jacket in its jaws.

"My jacket!"

"Forget about the jacket, I'll buy you a new one. Keep running."

Paul looked back as he grounded his teeth,

"No, I need to get my jacket back" Paul quickly made a 180 turn and charged towards their pursuers.

"Paul, what are you doing!?" Paul ignored Meyer and continued his charge. The pursuers froze in disbelief as Paul smashed his right foot into left Houndour's jaw, breaking his jacket free, and jumping over the Houndour.

"I'll take that, thank you" Paul landed and checked his jacket which was now ripped, "you stupid dog, you ruined it."

Houndour though did not give a damn and ran after Paul. Paul took that as his cue to keep running.

"No, not stupid dog, I meant good dog, good dog!" Paul ran for his life as Houndour chased right after him.

"Gligar boy!" Meyer started for Paul but was stopped by a flamethrower from the other Houndour.

"Stay where you are" commanded the bald team flare member.

Meyer could only grind his teeth as Paul disappeared deeper in the layer.

"Oh shit! This dog is going to bite my ass off." Paul continued to run with his jacket tucked under his arm with Houndour right on his tail.

Paul took a sharp turn down another hallway to try and lose Houndour, but that turned out to be a bad decision as there was a group of team Flare member in that hallway.

Paul quickly acted as he brought Vivillon out of its pokeball. Paul quickly ordered for Vivillon to make a clear lane for him. Vivillon quickly obeyed and cleared the Team Flare members with a strong gust attack. Paul ran right past them, but Houndour was still on his tail.

"Come on, there has to be another way out." As Paul was about to reach another turn he noticed something, a vent, in other words an escape route.

"Vivillon, break open the vent." Vivillon went ahead and flew near the vent. Vivillon inspected the vent for a second before backing up and then tackling the vent. Then Vivillon repeated a second time. And finally Vivillon tackled it a third time, breaking the vent open.

Paul quickly caught up as Vivillon broke open the vent. He got down to his knees and returned the Scale Pokemon before entering the vent.

A loud banging could be heard in an alleyway, breaking what had been a mostly silent night. The loud bagging disturbed some of the alleyway Pokemon who were resting for the night. Then a vent at the base of a building broke open, and somebody wearing a Gligar mask came crawling out.

"And Gligar boy lives to see another day." Paul got to his feet and surveyed his surroundings. It seemed to be just another alleyway, like the one back with Meyer.

"Meyer! Did he make it?" But before Paul could start worrying about the Blaziken mask crusader, one of the doors in the building next to him opened up. And to his dismay two houndours stepped into the alleyway, with two Team flare members behind them, one female the other male.

Paul took a couple of steps back and with a quick draw, he reached for his Pokeball, but his hand never made it. He was suddenly stuck in a red body lock. It tightened around his body and kept him from using his arms. Paul fell onto his behind with a grunt.

The Houndour advanced onto Gligar boy slowly, with bared fangs.

"Well" Paul stared down two Hondour looking at him as if were lunch, "I've never been one for praying, but might as well start now."

Paul bowed his head down, "Oh Arceus, you stupid goat shoved through a fence, give me a damn break!"

Suddenly, a Flamethrower from the sky rained down in front of Paul forcing the Houndour back. Mega Blaziken suddenly appeared in the fire and quickly slashed Paul's restraints. Mega Blaziken then took a hold of Paul and jumped into the slightly lit night sky, leaving the Team Flare members and Houndour to look in awe.

"I should pray more often."

Mega Blaziken quickly made it through the city and finally stopped somewhere far from the area. Meyer stood tall as Blaziken placed Paul on the floor. Paul took of his mask and looked up to Meyer.

"How was your adventure, Paul" without warning Meyer grabbed a handful of Paul's face, "stupid kid, you had me worried sick. Do you make everybody around stressed like this?"

"mmmm-mmmm!" Was the only sound Paul could produce.

Meyer suddenly let go, and Paul sighed in relief.

"Maybe" he replied from his knees, "I've been told things like that along those lines."

Meyer sighed and reached his hand down to Paul, who took it reluctantly.

"Come on, it's been a long night, let's go."

Paul pretty much dropped dead onto his sleeping bag. He eyes automatically shut for what seemed like a mere moment, when his wrist watch alarm clock went off.

"Fuuuck" he moaned tiredly.

Paul slowly got up and dragged his feet downstairs, still carrying his sweater under his arm. Meyer, who was now in his normal clothes, noticed him.

"Paul, where are you going?" Meyer asked.

"Training" he replied simply. Paul made it to the front door of the shop before his head dropped onto the door.

"Are you okay?" Meyer asked, "Aren't you exhausted?"

"No" Paul replied, "just forgot my tea."

Paul staggered his way to the kitchen where he was planning to make some tea, but he simply ended up sitting at the kitchen table, his head buried into his sweater, "Forget those losers; I don't have the energy to deal with those monsters."

Paul stayed like that for some time, half sleeping, half miserable, and mad at everything.

At some point Paul heard somebody come downstairs and into the kitchen. Serena walked in wearing her pink hair bow, pink sweater with pink hearts on the front and pink Pajama bottoms.

Serena stretched her arms straight into the air as she yawned before she noticed Paul, laid out on the table.

"Paul?" She said softly.

"Whaaaaat" he moaned, "just kill me already. Where's a rampaging Garchomp when you need one."

"Are you… okay?" She said carefully.

Paul then raised his head and looked towards Serena who was next to him,

"What do you mean?"

"Well…you look like a mess" she put buntly.

Paul narrowed his eyes before responding, "And you look like you slept well."

"Yeah, Bonnie's bed is really comfortable" Serena then took a seat next to Paul, "did you have a night mare or something that kept you up?"

"You could say that" he replied.

An awkard silence followed. Paul still looked at Serena, his eyes still narrow as if he was surveying her. Serena began to look for something else to say, and then her eyes shifted towards Paul jacket.

"Is that you're jacket? Looks like it got torn."

"Yeah" he replied as he took his eyes of her and to his jacket, "it happens."

"Would you like me to fix it?" She suggested plainly. She then pulled out what seemed to be a sewing kit of nowhere.

Paul looked back at her and surveyed her again, as if trying to see if this was a trap. After it seemed he had seen enough, he looked down at his jacket.

"Well it is already ruined" he thought to himself, "wouldn't really matter if she messed it up."

Paul took his jacket and shoved it in front of Serena's face, "go crazy."

Paul laid his head on the table and watched as Serena got started on his jacket. But his eyes began to betray him and he could not keep them open, "no, not yet…dammit."

And it was lights out.

Serena finished putting Paul's sweater back together rather quickly. She saw Paul was finally sleeping so she decided to go and get ready for the day before waking him up.

She came back to the table in her usual black top and red skirt but she was still wasn't wearing her hat. She neared the sleeping purple haired trainer.

"Paul, Paul" she said softly while she shook his arm gently. Though that was a mistake.

Paul's eyes opened wide, he then wildly jumped onto the table, knocking Serena off balance and causing her to fall to the ground,

"Dammit Penelope! I told you to stop doing that!" He said angrily with his hand curled in a fist.

His face then turned into confusion as he realized he was on top of the table. He then looked down at the floor and watched Serena as she slowly got up as she rubbed her behind.

"Whoops, that can't be good."

Paul then looked at the table and went eye wide. He grabbed his sweater and jumped down to the floor.

"Its…perfect" he thought to himself.

Serena then rose right in front of Paul, glaring at him and her hands on her hips.

Paul grinned at her nervously, truly a strange sight, "Uh…thanks for fixing my sweater."

After a moment Serena look softened, though her hands were still on her hips, "your welcome."

Paul sighed in relief, but it was too soon. Serena called Fenekin's name, and the yellow and red Pokemon appeared in a flash of light onto Serena's shoulder. The Fox Pokemon then leaped onto Pauls face and messed him up with many, nice and powerful scratches.

The purple haired trainer fell to the floor with a thud, his jacket clutched in his left hand and a not so pretty face.

"Hmph." Serena then walked away with her hands behind her back, her head slightly tilted up, and her eyes closed.

"Fenn!" Followed her Pokemon.

And that was lights out, again.
