Chapter 43 What Does That Mean?

Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter…or Bambie for that matter

A/N: Please read and review! I welcome and enjoy feedback

James was disappointed when he arrived at breakfast on Wednesday morning to find that Lily was not there. He had hoped that Madame Pomfrey would have released her in time for breakfast. He'd missed her yesterday. He hadn't realized just how accustomed he was to her presence or how much time they actually spent together between classes, Head Duties, homework, and just relaxing.

Not that he had spent the day moping. Tuesday was one of his busiest days with only one free period first thing in the morning. After Quidditch practice he had hung out with the Marauders in their dormitory. They had even gotten some homework done. Their workload was increasing and although it was starting to be mostly revision in preparation for their N.E.W.T.s the sheer volume of it made it rather time consuming.

"Knut for your thoughts, mate," Sirius said breaking James out of his thoughts.

"Just wondering when Madame Pomfrey will let Lily out. And about how ridiculous the amount of homework we have is," James said with a shrug.

"I'm sure she'll get out some time today," Remus said.

"Yeah," James agreed with a shrug. "I just never realized how much time we spend together until now."

Sirius chuckled.

"It's not like you spend every waking moment with her," he said.

"No," James agreed. "But we have almost all the same classes and Head duties…"

James's friends laughed.

"Yes, you spend a lot of time together," Sirius said rolling his eyes. "But enough about that," he continued.

"We haven't done any marauding in forever," Sirius said. "Life is frightfully dull sometimes when your best friend is Head Boy."

"Here, here," Peter agreed.

"Not this weekend," James said. "We're playing Hufflepuff on Saturday."

"Yes, we are aware," Remus said.

"Next weekend then," Sirius said.

"Alright," James agreed.

After breakfast James and his friends headed to Transfiguration.

"I hope McGonagall doesn't give us any more homework," Sirius moaned as they walked.

"Yes, and James is a Squib," Remus quipped.

"Moony's right, Padfoot," James agreed.

"You're not a Squib," Sirius replied.

"Yes, and McGonagall always gives us homework," James said.

"Don't be such a pessimist. We already have that essay due Monday," Sirius reminded them.

"I'm aware," James said. "That's not going to stop her from giving us revision homework."

"Why are we talking about homework?" Peter asked.

"Padfoot started it," James said accusingly.

The four boys laughed.

"I'm holding you to next Saturday," Sirius said.

"I promise," James said grinning. "Lily and I are capable of doing things apart you know."

"Leave him alone, Padfoot," Remus said. "It's not his fault he's completely twitter pated."

"Huh?" the other three boys replied.

Remus sighed, "Now I miss Lily. She'd have gotten the reference."

"Explain your strange Muggle reference please, Moony," Sirius said.

"It's from a movie," Remus said with a chuckle.

"A what?" Sirius asked.

"What's a movie?" James and Peter said at the same time.

"Remember how James was telling us about the television?" Remus asked.

"Yes," Peter and Sirius said.

"Go on," James said.

"Well, a movie is something that you watch. It tells a story. Sometimes they show them on the television," Remus explained.

"Sometimes?" James asked.

"Yes, there are other places you can watch them but we won't get into that," Remus said quickly. "You can ask Lily to take you to see one," he added looking at James.

"Anyway, there is this movie Bambie."

"Bambie?" Sirius asked. "What kind of a name is that?"

Remus rolled his eyes as he sighed.

"Bambie is a baby deer," Remus said.

"A boy or a girl?" Peter asked.

"What does it matter?" Remus asked in exasperation.

"Well?" Sirius asked.

"Bambie is a boy," Remus said with a sigh.

"Bambie is a terrible name for a boy deer," James replied.

"What were we talking about again?" Sirius asked chuckling.

"What twitter pated means," Peter chimed in.

"Oh, right," Sirius said.

"What does this Bambie have to do with twitter pated?" James asked.

"I'm getting to that if you three would stop interrupting," Remus said his voice torn between amusement and annoyance.

"Sorry," the other three said.

"So, anyway," Remus continued, "Bambie has these friends a skunk and a rabbit. And the movie is all about them growing up. So they reach the point in the movie where they are all teenagers."

Sirius snorted, "What the hell kind of story is this?"

"I used to watch it with my mum when I was little," Remus said. "I guarantee you Lily has seen it, too," he add looking at James.

"Anyway, at some point, it's been a long time since I've seen it, one of his friends discovers girls. And, the owl I think, though I could be wrong, tells Bambie that his friends are twitter pated."

"I still don't get it," Sirius said.

"In love," Remus says rolling his eyes again.

"Oh, well, why didn't you just say that twitter pated means, in love?" Sirius asked.

"I really don't know," Remus groaned. "Why do I try and explain things to you three?"

They all laughed.

They arrived at Transfiguration and took their usual seats.

"Good morning," Professor McGonagall said as she entered the room and shut the door.

"Today will be largely review. Your N.E.W.T.s will be here before you know it and I am confident that everyone in this class should get at least an E if you apply yourselves," Professor McGonagall began.

"Now…"

The door opened causing Professor McGonagall to pause and glance towards it.

Lily walked in.

"Sorry, I'm late Professor," Lily said hurriedly. "Madame Pomfrey, well, she was being Madame Pomfrey."

"It's quite alright Miss Evans," Professor McGonagall said. "Have a seat. We were just discussing the upcoming N.E.W.T.s"

Lily nodded and slid into her seat next to James. She hated being late. Everyone was looking at her. They all knew why she as late to class. Where she had been. Why she had been there. She looked over at James to distract herself from the stares of the rest of her classmates.

James gave her his heart melting smile. She smiled back. Merlin, she'd missed him. She pulled her quill and parchment out of her bag and placed them on her desk.

"As I was saying, everyone in this class should be able to achieve at least an E with sufficient study," Professor McGonagall continued her speech.

When McGonagall turned to the blackboard James dropped a note on Lily's desk. She took it off the desk and unfolded it in her lap. Lily had been caught passing note in Professor McGonagall's class before she knew what would happen.

Welcome back, love. I've missed you. Can you show me the movie about Bambie over the Easter Holidays?

Bambie? How did James even know about that particular movie? 'Does he even know what a movie is?' she wondered.

Do you even know what a movie is? And where did you hear about Bambie? I missed you, too. Lily wrote pretending she was taking notes. She hoped someone was taking actual notes.

When McGonagall turned her back again Lily slipped her note to James.

A few minutes later James passed the piece of parchment back.

Remus told me I'm twitter pated.

Lily tried to suppress her laugh and snorted. She quickly pretended to cough to cover it up.

"Are you alright, Miss Evans?" Professor McGonagall asked.

"I'm fine, Professor," Lily said in her best innocent voice. "My throat is just a little dry."

Professor McGonagall looked at her suspiciously but went back to firing revision questions at them. Lily went back to reading James's note.

And then he explained that it was from Bambie which is this thing called a movie. What exactly is a movie? Can we watch it?

Lily smiled. He was ridiculous sometimes.

Um, maybe. If they happen to show it on the tele while we are home. But we could go to the cinema and watch a different one there. I'll explain what a cinema is later. It's too complicated to explain in a note.

She slipped the note back to James.

A few minutes later he returned it.

Okay. I love you.

Lily smiled and scribbled, I love you, too.

She reached over to pass the note back while Professor McGonagall's back was turned. As James took the note, however, Professor McGonagall turned and caught sight of them.

"Five points from Gryffindor," Professor McGonagall said.

"Miss Evans can you please tell me one of the five Principle Exceptions to Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration?" Professor McGonagall asked holding her hand out to James for the note.

James put the note in Professor McGonagall's outstretched hand.

"Um, food," Lily said. "You can't make food out of nothing. You can multiply what you have or summon some if you know where it is."

As Lily answered Professor McGonagall skimmed through their note. Lily was grateful that it was mostly about a children's movie. She wondered if McGonagall had ever seen Bambie. James had told her about Professor McGonagall's father being a Muggle.

"Who knows another one?" Professor McGonagall asked. "Mr. Potter?"

As they left Transfiguration James put his arm around Lily's shoulder.

"Sixty," she said with groan.

"We are horrible aren't we," James said with a chuckle.

"You are such a prat," Lily said grinning.

James leaned over and kissed her. Much to James surprise Lily kissed him back much more enthusiastically than she would normally allow in public.

"Eh-hem," Katie cleared her throat loudly.

"Thank you," Sirius said to Katie.

James pulled away and smiled at Lily.

"I missed you," he whispered in her ear.

Lily rested her head on James's shoulder as they walked down the hall.

"You two are disgustingly cute, you know that right?" Katie asked.

"Thanks," Lily replied cheekily.

"We try," James agreed grinning.

"Don't encourage them," Sirius said.
