To Capture a Heart

I do not own Inuyasha or Death Note or any of the characters involved for that matter.

An entire week of slim findings. That's all Ryuk had gotten him. If Light wasn't a more patient man he would be furious, but he could wait. He would happily lay in wait if it meant Kagome was his.

Lately neither L or himself could catch her before she was already out the door after class. Grabbing her attention at the cafe wasn't working out either. The cafe had been having a large influx of people lately which left Kagome, the only waitress, busy from the time she arrived to the moment she left. Even now she was slowly packing her bag and there was five minutes still left in class.

Suddenly the professor raised his tone of voice causing everyone's attention to center on him.

"As you all know, folklore is a very important part of history. It helps tell a story about what was happening during that period of time. That being said, I want to do a project on it. I'm going to have you search for folklore that is not commonly known, and link it up to what was happening during that time period."

As if it was a reflex Light glanced at the back of Kagome's head. He wasn't at all surprised to find that she had stopped packing and was all ears. She was a history major after all and this is what she excelled at. She said so herself when talking to Ryuzaki one day after class.

The professor tried to quiet the excited whisper from the class with a wave of his hand.

"To try and limit multiple presentations with the same story you will be paired up. I've already typed the arrangements out so stop by the front on your way out to see who you will be paired up with. This will be due two weeks from now. If you have questions my office hours are the same as always. Class is over!"

Since she was already packed, Kagome was one of the first people to the front.

Glancing at the roster she had a strange reaction. Her look of curiosity slid off her face and a look of tired resignation took its place. After a moment she shrugged her shoulders and followed Eri out the door. The whole time Eri complained about having to work with Ryuzaki and how he had missed the last two days of class.

Light grabbed his books before making his way to the front. Knowing his luck with the past group projects he would get paired up with one of the students who was trailing behind in the class. Mainly it was to give the student a fighting chance, but usually Light ended up doing all the work and just putting their name on the paper. He was fine with doing all the work but giving them half credit irked him.

After moving through the dispersing crowd, he finally made it to the roster and trailed his finger down the list until he found is name. Light took and closer look and double checked before he let the triumphant smirk on his face grow. Kagome was his project partner. Already he had multiple schemes halfway made flitting through his mind. With L busy with his detective work and Kagome as his partner sabotage would be simple.

He let himself gloat about his upcoming triumph before he was interrupted. The professor was behind him and by his body language it was obvious he wanted to chat.

"Y'know" the professor started,"I've seen the way you look at Miss Higurashi. Maybe you can take advantage of this project and get her to notice you." With a playful nudge the professor walked off leaving Light to his own thoughts.

Light had a feeling he knew why the professor was so interested in his love life. On more then one occasion L had embarrassed the man in front of the class. But honestly Light could use all the help he could get.

Now, to get Kagome's phone number...
