To Capture A Heart
I do not own Inuyasha or Death Note or any of the characters

After multiple awkward encounters with Light, Kagome finally gave up her phone number to him. She had hoped in the beginning that this project would be fun even though she would be working with Light of all people. He was nice and all but the guy had a really creepy vibe that put her on edge and the way he looked at her made her get chills. It took a few days but they were finally able to nail down a time and a place to meet. They would be meeting at Light's house after she got done with her shift today. Sadly it wasn't as public as she wanted but the library would be closing soon by the time she was out of work. At least his family would be in the house.

And that's how, hours later, she ended up in front of Light's house knocking on the door. A young girl answered the door and did a double take.

"You aren't Misa!" She said accusingly. All the while Kagome just stood there staring at the finger pointed at her.

"Uh...No I'm not" She said lamely. Wow, what an introduction.

"Are you and my brother seeing each other? He has a famous girlfriend y'know. She wouldn't like it if she found out you were here."
Kagome started to panic a little. The last thing she need was a crazy girlfriend going after her. Lifting her hands in a placating manner she slowly began to talk trying to diffuse the situation before it got worse.

"I'm just here for a project. Is your brother even home?"

Before the young girl could respond Light appeared behind her and by the disapproving look on his face he had heard some of the conversation.

"Sayu, mother is calling for you."

The girl now known as Sayu pouted and waltzed off, leaving Light and Kagome alone.

"Sorry about her she can be annoying." Light opened the door wider and lead Kagome into the house. "And the girl she was talking about, she's just a friend so you don't have to worry."

Kagome trailed after him as he called out over his shoulder to whoever was in the next room.

"We'll be upstairs."

Opening his door he invited Kagome in before closing the door. He motioned for her to sit on his bed on the corner closest to the desk with a computer resting on it.

"So..." She began trying to fill the silence."I know a few folklores we could use from the Feudal Era-."
Without looking up from the notebook on his lap Light responded.

"There's no need for that. I already found a story we can use. I picked this book out that has more information if you want to write down some key facts. It starts on page 46."

Trying not to let her annoyance show Kagome picked up the book and started to flip the pages. Only to stop at page 26 when she saw a picture that caught her eye. Staring at her from the pages of the book was a picture of herself. She was sure of it. Who else would be caught dead in that short of a skirt back then. They even had her bright blue eyes. Glancing down at the caption it said:

Priestess of the Inutachi Group

She never thought the tales of her adventures down the well would make it five hundred years into the present time but here it was. Three paragraphs on page 26 with a picture.

"46"

Snapping out of her stupor she turned to Light to see him staring intently at her.

"Huh?"

"I said page 46. That story is too short and vague."

"Oh sorry."

After the initial tension both slipped into an easy work rhythm. Kagome was very knowledgeable about the history that took place during the time period. For some reason this really pleased Light. He would expect nothing less from the girl he wanted.
Glancing at the clock he realized it had gotten late and soon Kagome would have to leave. Now for the second part of the plan. The first was to show her his intelligence and how he could take charge. Now he was going to walk her home. Usually by the third block girls were putty in his hands.

"I think it's time for me to leave..."

Already she was glancing at the door.

"It's pretty dark outside will you be ok?" He asked putting a little more effort to sound concerned than usual.

"I'm pretty sure I can make it."

She was slowly edging her way to the door as she spoke. Light felt a brief flicker of anger before he squashed it. If L had offered she would have accepted with hesitation. What was so special about him? She should just say yes. What kind of girl wants to walk home alone? He reached out only to have her dodge him and run into his bookshelf.

A thump could be heard as magazines hit the floor and scattered. It only took Light a glance to know what fell and from the look of horror on her face he knew Kagome knew as well. For the first time in a long time Light felt fear. This would set back his plans. No matter how much he explained she probably wouldn't listen.

"Porn." Kagome said the first thing on her mind.

"Your porn is on the floor."

Porn magazines that were hidden moments before were laying at his feet. The raunchiest of all of the covers was at the top smiling coyly up at him. It didn't matter that they were used as a decoy months ago when L had cameras in his room. He couldn't tell her that anyways.
Seeing no way out of the situation Light just stood there and waited for Kagome to stop gaping like a fish.

"I really have to go now."

And just like that she was gone by the time he made it to the window she was down the block. So much for his plans...

Maybe his pride wouldn't have been so hurt if Ryuk hadn't chosen this time to float in.
