Chapter 12: Bring Me Home In A Blinding Dream
"You wanna tell me what happened?" Ukitake's soft voice went in one of V's ear and out the other as she barely held herself together after waking from one of her horrendous nightmares/memories. She had finally woken up about 6 hours ago and the orderly was given instructions to pump her full of pain medicine if she asked, and with the massive headache that accompanied her consciousness, she most definitely asked for it.
Byakuya had left about an hour after V got the medicine. She wasn't really with it and nearly forgot the man was even there. That was the thoughts of Shunsui and Jyuushiro, but Byakuya had thought otherwise, because when he told her he was going, she wouldn't release his hand and let him go.
"I...just..." Ghosts of the nightmare flashed in V's mind, causing her to grab her head in pain.
"V! Hey, calm down! Take it easy, and let's start from the beginning, okay?" Jyuushiro smiled briefly before pulling up the blanket on V and fixing the pillow. "Can you tell me what happened?"
V tried to reply but the words in her mind were hazy.
"Let's try something easier. But...I have to explain something first. Apparently, the answer to our questions is in the memory that's locked away in your mind. The reason you don't remember anything is because someone is trying to keep them from you and us. That's why you have these...episodes that cause to black out, or to revert to a protective state and prevent you from revealing any information. Whomever is keeping this from us, is the center of your problems. However, your body has found a way to communicate these messages, the information we need to keep you from being detained, by manifesting themselves in your dreams. So, knowing this, can you tell me the name or describe anyone, besides the people who were in your room a while ago, that was apart of your dreams?"
"Um...maybe a man...uh..." V tried to recall the appearance of the man who spoke to her about exploring her abilities. The images of his brown, lightly curled hair, his box glasses, and pleasant smile blinked repeatedly in her mind. "He had this short hair, curly, brown..." Shunsui walked back into the room as she continued. "He had these, um, black, small glasses. They were rectangular, a little..." V motion around her eyes when she talked about the glasses. "and he was average height...with a nice smile, a really nice smile..." She repeated.
"Aizen...? Was his name Sosuke Aizen?" Shunsui asked, after hearing the traits of the man lurking in V's memory.
"Yes! That's right!"
The head-captain and the 13th traded understanding looks.
"Okay. Next question."
"What do you think will happen to V when they find out about what goes in her dreams? I mean what if it was really Aizen?" A red-head took a seat on the couch in the commons area just outside the hall that lead to the barracks.
"It's pretty fucked up that even though we took him down so long ago what he's done still causes ripples to this day. It would've been better if he had just never been apart of the Gotei 13 in the first place, ya know?" The assistant adjutant of the 11th leaned against the arm of the sofa and rethought his words. "But if he hadn't, I honestly don't think we would've met Ichigo, what with how he was planning things out and all."
"But that wasn't just him! Juha Bach had a part in that, too!" A feathered 5th sat in the seat at the table away from the couch.
"You say it like you're defending him." Ikkaku smirked.
"You know that's not what I mean!"
"All this chick did was bring a bunch of problems we don't need and open up wounds we don't have time to heal. It would be nice if she just left."
"Well, that's not a nice thing to say." Captain Hitsugaya walked up to the three men.
"Captain Hitsugaya." Renji felt slightly embarrassed even though he wasn't involved in bashing V's name.
"I honestly think the three of you have better things to do with your time than gossip about other people, don't you?" The icy captain crossed his arms over his chest and raised a brow at the trio.
"Y-yea." They dispersed, each going their own way but before Renji could leave, Toshiro stopped him.
"Renji, we need to talk."
"Um, okay. What's goin' on captain?"
"There has been a development in the disappearances around the Rukongai."
"Yea?" The lieutenant leaned against the arm of the sofa Ikkaku had previously inhabited and tied his arms across his chest.
"Yes. According to the data that was received by the recon team last night, we've collected information that pertains to the possible location of the souls who have gone missing. It appears they all have been taken, or left, larger families, ones that would naturally notice if someone was gone. But all the souls who have been reported missing have either been taken or have left in the middle of the night, when everyone who would see them leaving was asleep. All the reports have been analyzed and it seems the souls have all been drawn to the same place."
"How do we know that?"
"They've all been spotted in the same general area before they're never seen again."
"Alright. So what do you wanna do, captain?"
"You and the rest of the advanced team will go to this place where they were all seen. I want to know what makes it so special. I would've sent the Recon Team, but there's no telling what's there. They are less experienced and I wouldn't want to hand them to whatever's out there on a platter. I'm sure the lot of you could handle yourselves."
"I'll get to it right away, Captain Hitsugaya." Renji bowed to the captain and started to walk away.
"Good. And, Renji," he was stopped. "Try not to talk about someone your own captain cares about, hmm? It'd be the death of you."
I plan to tie all the loose ends up at the end so if your confused or anything don't worry it'll make sense soon. REVIEW!
