Mousse's day had started out like any other morning in Nerima.
Wake up at dawn, go through daily stretching and exercise, clean up then start preparing the meal for lunch time. After the lunchtime rush, the deliveries for evening meals went out.
In between, he would profess his love for Shampoo, or have a small spat with the old crone who would end things by batting him over the head and sending him back into the kitchen.
But unlike the average day, things went sour about mid-afternoon. He had forgotten his glasses and with the busy rush hour of lunch had made a huge error and ended up spilling an order all over a customer.
What made this particular action worse was that the customer just had to be Happosai, the little pervert had sent him flying.
He guessed, even perverted old men needed to eat too, but boy was that an odd sentence to ever put together.
As he went sailing, (something not totally unfamiliar) he heard the lovely voice of his love saying the age old, "Aiya! Airen!" he could see the way she would say it too, her hands coming together near her face as she batted her lashes. A routine they were all more than familiar with but continued to do.
As he hit a rather hard surface and got a hold of his bearings, he figured he probably wasn't too far from Shampoo and could possibly get a ride back.
He patted his sleeves looking for a spare pair of glasses, in case he forgot his which was often. He wasn't sure they were the right prescription but they were better than nothing.
He was right about being nearby Shampoo and Ranma, or rather he was more than right they were just a few paces ahead of him. He hand landed somewhere between the alley and the street side.
Lately, everyone had become so use to the daily routine of things, throwing around insults here and there as well as punch or kick. Things had kinda stagnated but it also felt that they all were too scared to change the almost calm balance they had come up with.
The all knew to varying degrees that this time of their youth wouldn't last forever, but the urge to change things were low.
But for Mousse he was growing weary and scared. The longer things stayed the same, the higher things would never change and he might forever be chasing in Shampoo's shadow and that was something he definitely did not want.
So over the course of the last few days, he was thinking of ways to disrupt the schedule, something big and dramatic to show her how much he really was invested in her. Show her, he really meant it. And maybe that would spur everyone else into action as well?
Seeing them argue and fuss and watching Akane move on ahead, he steeled his nerves and thought this was an opportunity in disguise and that he'd best use it before he lost his chance for good.
Mousse leaped into action, throwing his glasses down in an attempt to look cool and charming and leaped for his love, or at least for the one he thought was his love.
Landing in a graceful heap, he hugged the person who he thought was Shampoo, giving a yell of "Shampoo! My love!"
"Stupid Duck Boy, that no Shampoo..."
He blinked as he realized that had probably hugged the telephone pole and missed Shampoo by several feet. His hearing was great but his estimation of depth and how far away people really were was awful.
Akane who had been heading home turned around at the commotion and face palmed as Mousse hugged a telephone pole while Ranma and Shampoo jumped out of the way.
She snorted, well, at least Shampoo had finally gotten off Ranma, but she now stood closer to Akane as she yelled at the poor blind boy.
Akane was ready to leave the scene again since the scenario had played out many a time, but what they all didn't realize just how different this time would be as Mousse leaped for his dramatic moment.
Looking through bleary eyes, he highlighted the person he was sure was Shampoo this time, moving with speed, he grabbed her into a hug and declared once more, this time slight softer, "Shampoo, I love you!" before planting his lips on hers.
The moment he had moved from the post, several things happened at once, Shampoo dived to the side as Mousse came rushing, Akane was caught off guard and most importantly, he caught the wrong girl!
Not one of them had expected the kiss, even as Mousse declared his love in a manner that would be sure to woo a girl, if she had actually been in love, but as basic associates, Akane was ready to break his reality and inform him, 'his love' was over there.
She stood for a second in shock as her brain froze over what exactly happened. It didn't take her another second before she was throwing him off with all her strength and send him into next year.
Ranma, on the other hand, was already mildly annoyed by the appearance of the duck boy but had hoped with him coming around it'd free up Shampoo enough for him to escape and rejoin Akane.
But to see him not only put his hands Akane but have the gall...to kiss her! Oh, he was ready to destroy the boy. Shampoo oblivious to Ranma's boiling anger laughed saying, "Too,too, cute couple they make! Haha, yes Ranma?"
Mousse not fully aware of the situation yet, too busy reeling in pain from the throw, meekly muttered hurt "Shampoo..."
Akane, anger boiling now from having a kiss forced on her, said through clenched teeth, "Do I look like Shampoo to you jackass?" before bringing out her personal hammer and sending him flying.
As he flew through the air for the second time today, he truly understood the importance of wearing glasses and the phrase looks before you leap.
As he realized he should've taken note of the smaller frame, he also realized that he made a very, terrible, terrible mistake and that Ranma was probably going to kill him the moment he got his hands on him.
He sighed as he made contact with another hard surface, today was not his day.
"Man...me and my bright ideas..."
