Lily padded into the kitchen and towards James, whose bare back was towards her as he stood over the counter, waiting for the kettle to sing. Lily restrained herself from caressing the planes on his back before happily remembering that she didn't have to, and wrapped her arms around his naked waist, pressing little kisses on his back.
James tensed at the feeling of her cold fingertips against his skin, but relaxed soon enough, turning to face Lily. "Hey, you," he said, grinning.
Lily couldn't keep the smile off her face as she looked at James. His brown skin shone in the morning glow streaming into the kitchen, and his smile lit his whole face up. "Hey." Lily bit her lip and traced a circle on James chest muscles. "So, last night…was…..something."
James' grin widened and pulled her closer. "Yeah. It really was, wasn't it?"
"I can't believe we wasted so much time…not doing it."
James eyes darkened slightly and he backed Lily into the kitchen island, his grin disappearing in his lust. He bent his head; catching her lips with his own and Lily sighed into the taste of coffee and peppermint and brought her hands up to tangle her fingers in his bed-mussed hair.
He lifted her up onto the counter. "Well, I guess we just have to make up for it eh?" he murmured against her neck.
James' hand was already pushed halfway up Lily's t-shirt before the sound of collective coughing broke them out of their reverie.
They turned to face the living room, where the digital image of Remus, Marlene and Sirius were staring at them, shaking their heads disapprovingly, although the smirk plastered across Sirius' face betrayed them all.
Lily leapt off the counter and adjusted her shirt with as much dignity as she could muster, stepping into the living room.
Remus continued shaking his head. "We knew it", he pronounced as Marlene handed a grinning Sirius a wad of cash.
"You BET on us?" James exclaimed, irritated with their friends' interruption.
Remus smiled humourlessly. "Naturally!"
"You guys couldn't have held off for another TWO days?" Marlene grumbled, crossing her arms.
Lily mimicked her pose and ignored the question. "So do you have an actual purpose for showing up here? Or are you just intent on not letting me have a morning shag?"
James smirked fleetingly but then turned angrily on his friends' grinning selves when Sirius exclaimed "YOU DOGS!"
Remus guffawed then raised his tablet. "Since the stone wasn't at Malfoy Manor, and the other location –speaking of, how are your injuries?"
"Not good, but not worse than we've had to deal with it."
"I'll say, I bet all the shagging really helps with the pain."
Lily picked up a cushion and flung it angrily at Marlene, but it simply passed through the digital screen, causing Marlene to flicker slightly and landed in the fireplace instead.
Remus plunged on; "Well it's definitely at Riddle Inc, so we're going to have to go and get it. Riddle Inc is holding their annual Halloween party – that's a couple days from now – so that's a likely access option, without looking overtly suspicious."
He scrolled up furtively. "Okay, now for today's plan. Sirius and Marlene are going to get the blueprints today and we'll work from there on retrieving the stone. James and Lily – there's one attacker from last night that survived. You guys go interview him. Find out anything you can to confirm the location of the stone, and who the fucking mole is. I've sent you both the address."
James cracked his knuckles. "I don't know mate. We're already running a pretty big risk. This would blow our covers for sure, if word gets out. Can't Peter do it?"
Remus went silent and Sirius shared an uneasy look with Marlene. "Peter's gone AWOL. We don't where he is."
James stepped forward, his heart plummeting. "What?"
Remus ran a hand through his hair. "Look James, lets not assume the worst- he's probably fine. Probably went off to do some work for Dumbledore. Whatever it is, we're trying to get hold of the Order and they'll deal with it."
Sirius clapped him on the back. "Yeah mate. Don't worry about Pete. We'll get him back. Just, we all gotta stay focused. Its so fucking intense right now. Shit's everywhere, everything is on the line. Riddle's probably made your covers already and that puts you guys in danger every fucking second. We need to finish this and we need to do it now."
Lily flopped down on the couch. "You guys sure know how to ruin a morning don't you?"
"Says the girl who couldn't keep off James a couple days longer and lost her friend a whole bunch of money." Marlene grumbled, shooting daggers at Lily.
Lily flipped her off. "You shouldn't have fucking bet on us, then!"
Remus intervened before Marls could retaliate. "The bright spot of all this is - if your covers have been exposed then Sirius and Marlene's are more secure than ever. Riddle would only expect one team. So if anything goes sour, we still have a team stable here. Well, you guys best get a move on." He eyed them both suspiciously. "And don't get distracted."
With a small beep, the camera retracted, taking the digital image of their friends away with it.
James flopped down on top of Lily.
"You okay?" she asked, stroking the hair away from his face.
He balanced his chin on her stomach, looking up at her. "Yeah. Little worried about Peter, I guess."
"Hmm yeah. Well I really think he's fine though. He has a...cunning intelligence about him. Surprises you."
James murmured his agreement against the soft fabric of her shirt.
Lily propped herself up on her elbows. "Come on then, we should get going."
James' eyes glinted wickedly and he pushed Lily's shirt up to her breasts, and began leaving open-mouthed kisses all over her stomach.
Her body quivered and let herself drop back onto couch cushions, her eyelids fluttering shut, her fist tightening in his hair. "Or...we could finish what we started."
He ran a hand up her slender leg, his fingers ghosting over her skin and she shivered. "Mhmm that's what I thought."
Remus slid his tablet onto the counter and turned to face Marlene and Sirius, who arched an eyebrow at him.
"I know", he said nodding his head matter-of-factly. "They've already started shagging again."
Marlene laughed and hopped onto the counter behind her. "You know it."
James shut the door behind them as they stepped out. Lily took James' hand and tiptoed to kiss him.
"Oi we already have to hear it, do we have to see it as well?" Ruth hollered at them over the fence. She had a large hat on and held gardening shears in one hand, a cigarette burning in the other.
"Morning Ruth. Sorry?"
She ignored the question and took a long pull of her cigarette. "Yes, you should be. Now, I'm not one to believe all this Skeeter rubbish, but it would seem my bedroom and yours share a wall, and I caught the live show last night."
Lily flushed. "Oh, sorry Ruth. We took to the guest bedroom last night, and I guess things got out of hand."
Ruth snipped at the bush with her shears. "I'll say. The absolute racket –"
She was cut off by Gwinnie, who had come around the back, holding a tuft of dug-up daisies in her gloved fist. "Well, hello there neighbours! My favourite pair of lovebirds!"
James grinned at her. "Well, I was just going to say that about you and Ruth!"
Gwinnie giggled and Ruth looked up from her snipping and couldn't repress her smile as she glared at James. "Boy, I'm holding shears; do you want me to cut you?"
Lily laughed, pleasantly surprised at Ruth's unexpected smile. "If I didn't know better Ruth, I'd say you like us."
Ruth tutted and snipped her shears in their direction. "No such thing, now get out of here before I come there and kill you both."
Gwinnie popped up from where she was re-planting her daisies. "She's serious you know."
James and Lily laughed and excused themselves. They were sliding into the car when they heard Ruth shout after them "And keep it down, will you!"
Marlene sat at the desk and cracked her neck, shuffling through some papers for Riddle, when he stepped out of office.
Marlene looked up and nodded. "Sir. Leaving for your 2 o' clock?
Riddle straightened his tie. "That's right. Look-could you give me the files on the Patels? I need to review their application."
Marlene searched through her desk and brought out the files, handing them to Riddle.
"I've received some reports that a stranger - one of Pomona's filthy low class dirtbags, no doubt, have been lurking around our offices. Handle him immediately please". He waved his hand dismissively and stalked down the corridor.
After a beat the closet door swung open, and said dirtbag stepped out, a grumpy look on his face. "He murders people and I'm the dirtbag?" Sirius muttered, coming over to Marlene's desk.
She reached up and patted his cheek comfortingly. "Remus could you disable the cameras?"
"On it."
As Remus worked, Marlene pulled on her gloves and retrieved the extra key to Riddle's room.
"Okay guys, cameras are disabled and Riddle has left the building. You're clear."
Marlene moved to his door and unlocked it, slipping in, Sirius following. "Okay, Sirius - you take Riddles desk, I'll take the corner cabinet, and then we'll check those top shelves."
They moved quickly, sifting through the documents until Sirius yelled "Got it!" and grabbed the blueprints from behind a shelf.
They rushed out of the office, locking it behind them and Marlene made for her desk. "Get it to Remus and then back to me as soon as possible, alright."
Sirius took off down the corridor and Marlene smoothed out her skirt and sat down before Sirius ran back.
He rounded her desk, spun her chair to face him, and kissed her.
Marlene broke out into a smile against his lips and she reached both her hands up to cup his face, her fingers tangling in the hair falling around his face. Sirius' hand tightened around her waist and he deepened the kiss before pulling away.
"I'll see you later okay?" He winked at her and smacked her lightly on the arm with the blueprints before disappearing down the corridor.
As Lily looked at the man slouched at the table, she understood why the term 'arms' was used to describe weapons. This man's arms were bulky and muscular and looked like they could take you out with a slap. She remembered him from last night – he was the one that was holding James down for his accomplice to hit. Anger flared in her gut again and her hand tightened around James'.
"Good cop, bad cop?" James asked, squeezing her hand in response.
Lily nodded. "And if that doesn't work, bad cop, bad cop."
James grinned and opened the door for her to step in.
They took seats opposite the hulk of man.
James sprung into action first, slamming his fist onto the table, causing it to rattle violently. "Remember me, you son of a bitch?" he spat, his face close to the assailants.
The man leaned back in his chair, his smile smug. "Of course. I remember her too" he jerked his head at Lily and raised his cuffed hand against his cheekbone, mimicking the cut on Lily's. "Rodolphus always had a thing for the pretty ones.
Lily swallowed her anger and pressed on. "Look. Um.." she flipped open the file, "…Goyle. We can help you here."
"Where's the fucking stone?" James bellowed.
Lily flinched at his tone, but Goyle looked unfazed.
"Tell us where the stone is, Goyle."
James slumped in his seat next to Lily, glaring daggers into Goyle.
Goyle's disgusting smug look returned. "I'm not going to tell you anything. You think you're so smart? We know you're from the Order. One of your very own switched to the right side. We've got people watching you. You can't win this."
Lily switched tactics, anger rising in her throat. "The mole. Tell us who the bastard is, and we can cut a deal."
Goyle leaned toward Lily, his eyes flashing dangerously. "I'm not bout making deals with any fucking cunt."
He stood up aggressively, and within a blink, the metal table was hurtling in James and Lily's direction.
They dived out of their chairs just in time, and Lily swore as she landed on her shoulder. Her body ached with the memory of last night but she scrambled to her feet despite it, just in time to see Goyle's hulking figure charge towards James. Lily got there first, intercepting him, and wrapped her arm around his wide neck, throwing him backwards. He grabbed her with him and managed to pin her to the ground. Goyle pressed the handcuffs into her neck and she choked as the metal cut into her skin.
"I'm not going to be fought by some stupid girl." He opens his mouth to spit on her but she brought her head up just enough to headbutt him.
In his moment of disorientation, James grabbed Goyle and heaved him towards the wall, a knee in his gut and his forearm choking him.
James pressed his arm in, and Goyle's face turned purple, and he gasped for air.
"WHO SENT YOU? WHO IS THE FUCKING MOLE?"
Goyle's face hardened momentarily, but when James pushed his knee further into his gut, his face contorted in pain, and in desperation he choked out; "P….Peter…Peter P..P..Pettigrew."
James' breath hitched and he smashed Goyle's head into the wall.
