Author's Notes: College is stressful. :)
It had happened within seconds.
The infamous Buzz Lightyear felt time slow down as he ran around the throne and tackled Porkchop to the ground knocking the control device out of his hands. There was outrage from the crowds, but the space ranger couldn't hear anything but the sounds of the Pig struggling.
Out of the corner of his eye, Buzz caught Woody cutting a hole in one of the glass tanks with his lazer, letting the monkeys out into the stands…
He was met with a knee to the stomach, as he had allowed himself to be distracted. The ranger tried to catch his breath as he rose to his feet and joined the pig as they started circling around each other. Porkchop was fuming, making him dangerous and unstable. Buzz eyed the remote that was discarded a few feet away. Despite that, he was more prepared as the pig lunged towards him again. He rolled out of the way attempting to activate his own lazer but Porkchop stopped him with unprecedented speed.
They were on the floor again, wrestling violently.
After creating a little more chaos on the ground, Woody started to jet upwards towards where Bo dangled precariously. He had nearly reached her when suddenly his left wing was hit from somewhere down below. The sheriff struggled steadying himself in the air, but he was determined in making it just a little further.
And there she was in the flesh, twisting around uncomfortably. Woody grabbed onto the chain above her as left booster started to quit helping him stabilize. Shots from blasters whizzed past them, but they were high enough and the chain was swinging around slightly so it was difficult to aim. Still, it wasn't a good place to waste time.
Woody extended his hand softly to take off Bo's blindfold. She jumped and tried to squirm away, but the cowboy yanked down the cloth. Her baby blue eyes were wide and frightened, but as she recognized him, she suddenly looked like she was about to cry. Woody took out the gag next, and she let her head drop on his shoulder as he threw his arms around her.
"My hero…" she mumbled out weakly.
"Let's get you out of here," he told her gently as he scooped her up and started to use his lazer on the chain holding her up. It was hard to tear his eyes away from hers. She seemed so frail and tired…
He pulled open his communicator while cutting at the chain, letting Bo rest on his knees. "Jessie, you there?"
There was no response for a few moments, but finally Jessie's voice came on through the scratchy comm. "Woody! A tad busy right now…" There were the sounds of shots and blasts from the background that made it difficult to hear her.
"Jess I hope to goodness you're close to getting the shields down," Woody said frantically.
"Yeah well I'm working on it! Does Buzz have Bo?"
"Tiny change of plans. Bottom line is we need to get out of here as soon as pos-"
They were dropping.
One of the green army men had climbed up onto the platform where Porkchop and Buzz were fighting and had grabbed the remote…
Neither Bo nor Woody had the chance to yell or scream as they plummeted towards the shark tank. The cowboy tried desperately to counter the effects of gravity with his one working booster, but the water came faster than anticipated.
Bo sank much quicker, as the heavy chains keeping her suspended came down with her and dragged her down into the deep. Woody tried to ignore how much his eyes stung in the salty water and attempted to close his helmet but the pressure under the water made it impossible.
Woody's silhouette stood out in the murky water, but he was not alone. The aforementioned sharks circled curiously, recognizing the scent of blood. The stress on Bo's wrists had cut them. He was able to propulse himself deeper to catch Bo's arm using the one booster and he stopped them from descending any lower.
One of the sharks finally acted, and the frenzy began.
Woody couldn't use his lazer underwater either, so he instead focused on taking them back upward and out while fighting off the sharks one-handed. He placed himself in front of Bo, letting his suit take the beating. Bo tried her best to assist by making it difficult for anything to latch onto her, but she grew weak as every limb became numb and her vision was clouded like she was about to pass out.
The cowboy persisted, fighting harder after Bo went limp. They were so close…
They broke the surface, flinging out to the side. Woody was relieved to hear Bo cough and breathe heavily beside him as they stretched out on the platform between the water tank and monkey pit.
Woody immediately went back to cutting the chains still attached to Bo, as part of them were still submerged. Once they had finally been cut, the cowboy groaned with exhaustion and collapsed down by Bo again. Their hearts were beating out of their chests, but despite herself Bo grabbed Woody's hand and knotted her fingers through his. He turned his head towards her and smiled weakly.
In the meantime, Buzz was relieved the two made it out of the water, but he couldn't really direct his attention towards them at the moment. Porkchop was vicious, and as they had been rolling around on the floor the pig had managed to force Buzz's helmet open. He'd hit the Ranger's left eye so hard that it was difficult to see out of it. Buzz had fought back as best as he could, but the pig had a large weight advantage over him.
However, Porkchop's leverage had just been taken from him, and now it was just a matter of getting the heck out of there.
As soon as Jessie lost her transmission from Woody and had no response from Buzz either, she knew it was now or never. The others had done their part and it was up to her to finish it through. She took a breath, analyzing the four who were left standing on the bridge.
And then she ran out in the open.
