Chapter 2
Awakening of the Princess and Prince
"I will respect your wishes, Miss Tsukino. Please follow me. Do you want Mr. Chiba for support?"
Usagi nodded and they went to an interview room. Before he turned the recorder on, Usagi flung her arms around Kunzite, who embraced her back.
"Hime, don't worry. It will be all resolved. The bastard is going to pay," Kunzite said.
"Oh Kun, you were right. I should have listened" Usagi cried.
"Hime we are going to get this sorted. Please trust me," Kunzite replied .
Usagi nodded. "I wouldn't trust anyone other than you anyway. Oh, and maybe my cousin Haruka… if I ever see her again. I haven't seen her since my parents and brother passed away. She was with her girlfriend and best friend. Michiru and Setsuna were their names, I think," Usagi said, hoping to put off the conversation a moment longer.
"We need to do this interview," Kunzite coaxed.
"I know." Usagi sat on her knees, hoping to stop the discomfort.
Mamoru winced, they were now going to get the full story and he wasn't sure how much he would be able to hear before he wanted to go and find his no-longer-cousin and destroy him.
She nodded telling Kunzite to go ahead. She shifted nervously, not sure she was ready to talk about what had happened. She couldn't meet their eyes, and stared at the table.
"This is office Ine Kunzite, interviewing Usagi Selene Tsukino. The date is the 2nd July 2016, and the time is 9:30 pm. Miss Tsukino, what is the crime you would like to report today?" he asked simply.
"R-rape and domestic v-violence... and I would like to press c-charges a-against Chiba Daisuke."
Kunzite's grip tightened on his pen. He and Mamoru stared at each other for a few seconds, both agonizing over the fact that they hadn't been able to prevent this.
Mamoru looked down. He felt guilty for not protecting the youngest in their group of friends. Daisuke had destroyed the confidence of their bubbly friend. He didn't like the way she wouldn't meet their eyes. Didn't she realize it wasn't her fault?
"Miss Tsukino, when did the abuse start?" Kunzite asked.
"T-three months ago... after Mr. Chiba proposed. I-I said no, but I stupidly agreed to move in with him... and that's when the abuse started."
'Three months? Why didn't she find me sooner. If Kunzite doesn't kill me I will protect her now.' The enormity of the situation was beginning to sink in.
Kunzite looked at Mamoru, beyond pissed at his prince. The young man didn't even know he was a prince yet, but Kunzite was furious and didn't know how long he could hold the secrets in. ``Never mind she is the moon princess," his thought process was interrupted by Usagi's small voice.
"He let me barely eat and always kept tabs on food to make sure I only ate while he was home. I could only sneak out, w-while he was at work."
'She had barely enough weight on her to begin with, what with her hyperactive thyroid and heart problems.' Mamoru wanted to sink and melt into the ground, but his Usa needed him.
"O-once he found out, he threatened t-to put cameras in b-but I managed t-to convince him not to, so I could only go out at set times of the day, when he was at work a-and I knew h-he wouldn't be home for some time. When he got home I would always receive a beating if something looked out of place. I was so s-scared."
'He was mentally torturing her yet didn't trust her to eat without him. What was she going to eat, ice cream? He did the shopping so I bet she never got treats."
"And then tonight... Tonight h-he f-forced me. He r-raped me. W-when I was tied to the bed I begged him to s-s-stop... but h-he didn't and forced himself in me. After he r-raped me he fell asleep. I managed to untie myself and ran away without picking anything up a-and that's all" Usagi finished tears rolling down her cheeks.
"Evidence has been taken, and miss Tsukino is going to the hospital for a rape kit and treatment of her injuries." Kunzite pressed the end button on the record box and hugged the girl, who winced in pain.
"We're going to get you to the hospital Hime," Kunzite whispered as he helped the girl up.
Usagi nodded. "Thank you Kunzite." She wanted to cry again.
"I'm going off duty early so I can come with you and Mamoru," Kunzite declared, and smiled reassuringly.
"Oh no, you don't have to do that. I think I will be safe with Mamo-Chan." Usagi blushed at the slip.
"Oh I insist. Mamo-chan eh?" Kunzite smiled at the petite girl, who stuck her tongue out and blushed even brighter.
"Hai, Mamo-chan," she whispered.
Mamoru smiled. 'I think she still likes me. Rei you had better be right about her liking me.'
Mamoru was brought out of his reverie when he heard a thud. He turned around and paled at the sight of the little blonde, who had collapsed. Usagi's nose was bleeding. He checked her heart. All her friends knew she had a heart condition and needed medication.
"Kunzite!" Mamoru bellowed. Kunzite ran into the room where they were waiting, and he blanched.
"Heart?" he asked.
Mamoru nodded.
"I bet that bastard stopped giving her the money to get her medication. I hope she hasn't been without too long. Mamoru I'm afraid to be so blunt with the bad news, but Usagi may not last the night," Kunzite mumbled.
"No" he whispered, tears now threatening his and Kunzite's eyes.
Kunzite got his radio out. "This is officer Ine. I need an emergency ambulance, stat! Victim of domestic abuse and rape, and may not have had the medication for her heart condition. Moto-Azabu district police station, and hurry," Kunzite virtually bellowed into the radio.
"Please hold on Usako. Don't leave me now. Aishiteru," Mamoru said, tears in his eyes.
"You announce your love now that's she's dying in your arms Mamoru? How bright of you. I'm sure she will be bouncing like a spring chicken once your words register in her head," Kunzite deadpanned, his fear and worry making him speak before he thought.
"Just shut it Kunzite! We may be best friends, but that was one step too far even for you! Just get me a blanket for Usagi. Her body is starting to get cold."
Kunzite nodded in apology and exited the room
"Usako. Please don't die. You have no idea how much I love you." Mamoru let his tears fall this time.
"Mamo-chan" a weak whisper said.
"Usako?" Mamoru cradled the girl.
"The doki doki hurts," she whispered.
Mamoru knew what Usagi meant. The doki doki was her childhood name for her heart. Mamoru, Usagi, and all their friends had grown in the same close knit Neighbourhood. Usagi, at eighteen, was the youngest amongst them. She looked to all her childhood friends, who were all older than her by ten months to four years, as older siblings and she loved them all.
But Mamoru held a special place in her heart. She always felt drawn to him and safe with him. She looked up at him with her crystalline blue eyes and saw he had tears dripping from his ocean blue eyes, which were closed now.
'Why are you crying Mamo-chan? ... No! I can't talk.' she gazed to where one of his hands was and tried lifting her hand to his to reassure him but she was so weak. 'I hope help comes soon I don't want to die,' Usagi thought.
Just then she felt a warm light surround her. It cradled her like a newborn. "Princess Serenity, it's time to awaken now," a regal looking woman entered Usagi's head.
"Do I know you?" Usagi wondered.
The woman smiled. "Oh, my dear daughter. Look at you. How did you get pulled into this mess? Why didn't Luna awaken you and warn you about HIM? You belong with the man who is currently cradling you in his arms. Prince Endymion."
Usagi's memories come flashing back to her. "Endymion!" she screamed.
Mamoru looked down at the now awake girl, startled and stunned.
Kunzite heard the girl scream and bolted into the next room. "She's finally remembered! Master is next," he thought. Happiness radiated across his normally stoic features, as he watched the glowing couple.
He and Minako had remembered when they faced the dark kingdom alone four years ago. Soon his brothers-in-arms, his prince's other guards, and the rest of the princess' guardians would awaken.
"Usako?" Mamoru whispered , looking down at her.
A gold flash startled him. A young man with white blond hair and amber eyes appeared next to the ghostly woman.
"Helios!" Kunzite let out happily.
"Kunzite, it's good to see you again. Now, for you my prince, it's time to fully access your memories. Helios put a palm against Mamoru's head and glowed. While Usagi was glowing silver, Mamoru was glowing gold.
His memories came flashing back. "Serenity?" He asked looking at Usagi.
"Endymion," she whispered and he kissed her. Two waves of light erupted from them and went beyond the borders of the police station in search for their friends, family and protectors.
