Epilogue
"It's been awhile, Kai-kun."
Kaito stood at the top of the hill, watching everyone for a moment before turning towards the beautiful woman who stepped up beside him. Meiko-san was still as beautiful as he remembered, and a slight guilt filled his heart. It was time to be a man and fix things between them. "It has…" he admitted quietly. "I knew Miku would do this… but I guess it happened quicker than I wanted it."
Meiko laugh was somewhat sad. "I know… but Miku is a kind girl."
"So… when did you two start dating… or did I misread Miku when she wouldn't stop talking about you at Christmas? Apparently, you two spent the afternoon together after she left Aiko-san's place."
"Are you jealous?" Meiko teased. "We'd not long started going out when we saw each other at the café, though we're still keeping quiet about it."
"Of course," Kaito replied, feeling awkward.
"And you? You're dating Kagamine-kun?"
Kaito nodded. "Yeah, I am."
"I'm glad… that you've found someone," Meiko replied, watching the group before looking at him. "I won't apologize for what I said back then, Kai-kun. I meant every word of it. I also know-"
"Don't" Kaito whispered. "Let me enjoy what time I have," he finished. "I'm not intended to apologize for what I said either. Your words hurt me. They still do…"
Meiko nodded. "They were cruel, but they were my honest feelings." Then, a small smile appeared on her lips. "Kagamine-kun got very angry for your sake. He's a kind boy, and I hope you cherish him." She began to walk away from Kaito, saying; "Let's hope the next time we see each other again… you'll be cancer free," she smiled over her shoulder before leaving him behind.
"Yes… let's hope," Kaito smiled before walking down the hill to join his friends.
"All done?" Len asked, joining him.
"Yeah, for now," Kaito ruffled Len's hair. His eye sight never returned in his left eye, and because of that Len had grown his hair a little longer to cover the eye. It didn't seem to bother him however, as he moved about no differently. "Len, I-"
"Wait!" Len cried, fishing into his bag he'd brought with him. "I didn't get to go out and buy Christmas presents, so I did yesterday. I want you to have this," Len said, pulling a small parcel out and holding it out to Kaito. "I wanted it to be special, so… I hope you like it."
Kaito stared at the small present before taking it. He nervously opened it up to reveal a beautiful silver pocket watch. It was simply designed, but nonetheless, it was lovely. "Len… this is…"
"A reminder," Len grinned. "A reminder that no matter how much time passes, we'll stay together. After all, time is meaningless when you're in love." He brushed his hair away from his eye, something he rarely did now. the scar down his face was still pretty nasty, but the fact that he was willing to show it to Kaito proved how much Len trusted him. "I know… I'm still who I am, but I decided I'm happy with this version of me. You accepted me for who I am… and I don't feel the need to change who I am because of it. So… Thank you, Kaito. Thank you for loving me for who I am." Len smile was the brightest he'd ever seen. Warmth flooded his heart and he felt overwhelmed.
Yes, this was the Len he loved so dearly. Nothing would change that, no one would change that. If Len was happy with him. "Len… I don't know what the future may hold… with my…" Kaito didn't want to say it. "But… with time I have, I want to spend it beside you. So if you accept me…"
"I do," Len nodded, reaching out to hold Kaito's empty hand. "I want all of you, Kaito… because you want all of me. I'm scared the future is gonna be tough, but I know if we're together, side by side, then there isn't something to be afraid of. I'll fight to keep you beside me; even if we have to travel to a foreign country for treatment or something, I'll stay beside you. I know these words don't mean much coming from a high schooler, but… they're my honest feelings." He smiled again. "I love you Kaito. They are what I really feel. I love you, everything about you."
"As do I," Kaito smiled back. "I love you, Len."
A/N: And here we are, the end of the story. It's sad to see this go, but I felt like I'd never get it finished the way I was going. I wanted to talk a little about what would happen next since there was going to be a second story that was about Rin when she's older and her eventual relationship with Gakupo... but I'm still not sure if I will ever get around to writing that.
Kaito and Len stay together, that's a given. They end up, a few years later travelling to America in order to help Kaito recover. Len never goes through with an operation, since he's happy the way he is.
Meiko goes on to take over as Miku's manger.
Gakupo goes on to teach and later becomes Rin's homeroom and maths teacher when she's in high school.
Rin ends up having an operation to change her gender, going from being a boy to a girl, because she thinks it's the only way to get Gakupo to like her.
Hibiki and Aiko end up marrying and having a small family together, never straying too far from Rin and Len's side.
Katsurou goes onto into professional swimming and begins dating a girl in his swimming class at Uni a few years later.
Ryunnosuke fixes his relationship with his family but goes on to politics.
And that pretty much sums up everything. A lot does happen, but I won't spoil too much because if I do write the second story (Rin's story), I'd like to keep as much as possible quiet. I can tell you... something bad does happen to Kaito however... because not every story has a happy ending.
Thank you all once again for sticking with me. Two and a half years is a really long time... but I do hope to continue writing. I don't know what I have planned for a the future, but until next time... Thank you all for everything!
