A/N So, just for extra info on this story, the change that Harry goes through, from a colder and darker mage into this happier character is because of Draco, Hermione, Ron and the Four. Also, I'm not too great at writing dark characters... I like characters that are happy and caring and stuff. So I hope you like this chapter! Idk why, but this chapter just flowed out so naturally... Well, maybe not that naturally, but it was unusually easy to write. But it might seem a bit rushed as they travel from guild to guild... I don't really go into detail as they interact with other guilds... So please bear with me!
Chapter 10
"I'm so excited!" Hermione squealed, jumping around.
Draco laughed, eyes alight with excitement as well, "This is going to be awesome!"
Harry grinned as well, "Ok, guys, make sure you have a firm grip on someone else." After they were all holding hands, with their luggage on their backs, Harry pictured his sister, and concentrated. With a swirl of space, they were gone.
In another swirl of space, they appeared in Earthland. "Ouch! Hermione! That's my hand!"
"Can you please get off my hair?" Hermione squeaked in pain.
Harry stood up, disentangling himself from the clump of people, "Huh. Didn't know it was so messy to transport more than one person interdimensionally."
"Nico!?"
Harry whirled around, eyes widening, "Ultear-nee-chan! Meredy-chan!" He tilted his head to the side, "Where are we? This isn't the guild hall. And who is he?"
Ultear smiled bitterly, "This is Jellal. And Grimoire Heart disbanded. Jellal helped Meredy and I, and we formed a new guild. Crime Sorciere."
Harry blinked, silent with shock. "What? What happened during the few months I was gone?"
Ultear peered over, "Nico, who are they?"
Harry turned, "Oh, they're my friends from Earth!"
"Harry, why is she calling you Nico?" Ron asked, looking at the two pretty women with wide eyes. "Is she your sister?"
Jellal raised an eyebrow, "Another world?"
"Uh…" Harry was at a loss as to where to begin explaining. "Well, um, how about introductions first? Nice to meet you, Jellal-san. My original name is Harry Potter, but Ultear-nee-chan gave me the name of Nicodemus."
"Wait, Nico, so should I call you Harry now?" Ultear asked, looking confused.
Harry blinked, "Um, this is getting confusing…"
"Or should we call you Nico?" Fred and George chorused in unison.
Ultear set out a hand, "It's ok. I'll just call him Harry." She turned to them, "Hello, I am Ultear, Harry's adoptive sister."
Jellal smiled in greeting, "I am Jellal."
"Meredy! Nice to meet you all," Meredy chirped brightly.
As they finished introductions, Harry gazed at his former guildmates, "What happened? Why did Grimoire Heart disband?"
"It started with Fairy Tail's S-class Promotion Trials in Tenroujima. We caught scent of Zeref's magic in Tenroujima, and headed there with the rest of the Kin," Ultear began.
"We engaged in battle with the Fairy Tail mages," Meredy continued. "They put up a really good fight. Defeated almost all of us, except for Ultear-nee."
Ultear shrugged, "I decided not to fight anymore. I realized the truth behind Gray and Lyon."
Harry looked at her with relief. He hated to see his sister suffer so much. Meredy smiled at their mutual sister, and continued with the recollection of events, "Then they went to face Master Hades."
Harry's eyes widened, "They were able to defeat Master Hades?"
"Well, six of the strongest faced him, and it was also luck, because the three Exceed found Master Hades' heart," Meredy explained.
"What about Zeref?" Harry pressed.
Ultear and Meredy exchanged looks, "He was alive the entire time. It was just that his thirst to destroy the world was slumbering. Now, he's awake, but we don't think he's on Fiore anymore. We're not sure, but this guild was formed to take down dark guilds and help defeat Zeref."
Harry's eyes widened, "Defeat Zeref? But-"
"I know," Ultear said tiredly. "Harry, Zeref-"
"Ultear-nee-chan, it's ok. I know. Zeref is an evil wizard. The Four told me," Harry said.
Ultear blinked, "Oh. Then I must thank the Four for doing what I failed to do." She smiled, ruffling his hair, "So what did you plan with your friends here?"
"Well, we were going to travel around then return to Grimoire Heart after a month, but now…" Harry trailed off.
"It's ok, Harry," Ultear said softly, hints of regret and bitterness seeping into her voice. "Go your own way. Find the light and leave the darkness that I dragged you into. Forgive me."
"Ultear-nee-chan, what-?" Harry asked, confused and slightly hurt.
"I intend to attempt to atone for my sins with this guild," Ultear admitted. "I hurt too many people. Harry, you're still so pure and untainted with darkness. I thought that being in Grimoire Heart might have left you permanently tainted in darkness, but it seems that with the Four and your friends, you have been able to rise up from it. Find your own path with your friends, and maybe join a legitimate guild like Fairy Tail." She looked wistful, "I can only watch as you rise into the light. But if you need any help, I will always help you, brother."
Harry's eyes were wet with tears, "Ultear-nee-chan, what are you talking about? You're not a bad person! I-"
"Nic-Harry… You have to find your own path without me. I can no longer keep you by my side. I would never forgive myself if I tainted you with the darkness that surrounds me," Ultear said sadly. "Go, Harry."
Meredy also sent him away, her eyes sad, "Harry, please do not turn out like us. Go into the light, and become so bright that you can outshine all darkness." (hehe, from Jellal after the Tartaros Arc)
"Meredy, Ultear-nee-chan!" he cried, throwing his arms around them. "I want to stay with you though!"
"Forge a new life for yourself, with your new name and your new friends," Meredy whispered. "We are of the past, the dark, dark past. Look into the bright future, Harry."
Ultear pushed Harry away gently, "Go on, brother. I cannot wait to see how bright you will become."
"Maybe we should comfort him?" Ron suggested, as they walked behind Harry, whose shoulder's were shaking.
Hermione shook her head, "We should give him some time to mourn his old life before welcoming him into the new."
Draco looked at their friend sadly, "We need to always be there for him. We will never abandon him. Besides, we need to help him become bright, remember? His sisters wanted him to become bright, so we will help him."
Fred and George looked at each other, a silent conversation passing between them. "I guess we will too then," Fred said. "We will also stick by him."
"Alright!" Harry said, with determination. His tears had dried away, and he was determined to make Meredy and Ultear proud. "Here's the list of guilds we should visit. Lamia Scale, Blue Pegasus, Fairy Tail and Sabertooth."
"Only four?!" the others exclaimed.
"Well, these are some of the prominent guilds," Harry explained, rolling his eyes. "We wouldn't want to go to every single guild out there, right?"
"Well yeah, but four's a bit too limiting?" Hermione suggested.
"If we don't like these four, then we can go check out other guilds," Harry said stubbornly.
Draco sighed, "Ok, ok. What's the first guild we're visiting?"
"First stop! Lamia Scale!"
"Hello!" Harry called out, as they entered the guild hall.
A handsome teenager with pale white hair approached them, "Hello, may I ask who you are?"
"I'm Harry Potter, and my friends and I are visiting different guilds," Harry explained. "You are?"
"Lyon Vastia," the older teenager said, bowing. "Are you looking for a guild to join?"
"Sort of. We're perusing what guilds there are to pick the one that fits us," Ron piped up.
Harry sighed, "Yes, Can you or someone of your guild show us around?" He glared at Ron, who sulked.
"Of course," Lyon said pleasantly. "What guilds are you considering?"
"Blue Pegasus, Fairy Tail, Sabertooth," Hermione rattled off. "Do you know those guilds?"
Lyon laughed, but there was a sad undertone, "Of course I know those guilds. Except for Sabertooth, the other two are two of the most powerful guilds in Fiore." He paused, then amended his comment, "Well, Blue Pegasus is one of the most powerful. Fairy Tail on the other hand…"
"Wait, but didn't they defeat Grimoire Heart?" Harry demanded, eyes narrowing. "What do you mean by that?" Ultear had failed to mention that.
Lyon looked sad, "Oh. So you didn't hear. Apparently Acnologia, the Black Dragon, appeared in Tenroujima during the Fairy Tail S-Class Promotion Trials, right after they defeated Grimoire Heart. Acnologia attacked them, and since then, no one's seen a hair of the people who were on the island." He sighed, "The only people left in Fairy Tail are those who didn't qualify for S-Class. So basically, Fairy Tail's just an average guild now."
"Acnologia? Who's that?" Fred, or was it George? asked.
Lyon glanced at him, "Acnologia, the Black Dragon, is a legend. Some people say he doesn't exist, but anyway, he's a very powerful dragon. Said to be the last of his kind."
Harry gave them glances, telling them silently to save the questions for later. "So the Fairy Tail members like Erza Scarlet, Natsu Dragneel and Gray Fullbuster are gone?"
Lyon's face had contorted in anguish at Gray's name, but he composed himself quickly, "Yes. They are."
"Are they alive?" Harry felt bad for pushing when it seemed like a sore subject for him.
The white haired teen shrugged, "I don't know. We can only hope and wait."
Harry bit his lip. He wanted to join Fairy Tail, after hearing about how they had defeated Grimoire Heart and helped his sister at the same time. He changed the subject, as he could tell Lyon was starting to grow wary, "What prominent members are here?"
"Well, there's Jura, one of the Ten Wizard Saints," Lyon said, pointing to a large man who was sitting at the guild bar. He smiled proudly, "And there's me."
"Aren't you also an Ice Make mage?" Harry asked excitedly.
Lyon smiled, previous discomfort forgotten, "Yes, I am."
"Cool! So am I!" Harry said brightly. "I heard you're really good at it!"
"If you join this guild, I could help you with it," Lyon offered.
Harry blinked. That offer was really tempting, but he smiled, "We should still see the other guilds too, even if it's just to see what they're like."
Blue Pegasus. Ron, Hermione and Draco only had one thing to say about that guild. "They're crazy!"
Fred and George on the other hand, seemed to enjoy the atmosphere of eccentricity.
Fairy Tail. Harry looked at the small and unkempt guild hall sadly. They walked in, "Hello?"
A man with dark blue hair and a mustache walked over, "Hello, how may I help you?"
"My friends and I are looking to join a guild, and we just want to take a look around," Harry said, repeating himself for the third time.
The man looked surprised, "Well, it's certainly nice to see some prospective guildmates, but you surely have heard about what happened on Tenroujima?"
"Yes, I have," Harry said. He looked at the man curiously, "But I have a question. Even though you aren't sure that they're still alive, why didn't you disband and join other guilds?"
The man's face became grim, and he looked away, "We will keep Fairy Tail alive, even if we die without ever seeing them again. We still hold onto the hope that someday, we will find them alive. And with that day, we will welcome them home to Fairy Tail as one."
Harry looked up, touched, "Can you tell us a bit about this guild?"
"Well, I'm the master, and my name's Macao," the man said. "We receive some quests, but not a lot now. The numbers been dwindling ever since Tenroujima."
Afterwards, Harry looked at his friends, "What do you think about Fairy Tail?"
"I like Fairy Tail the best so far," Ron said frankly. "Even though they're not the strongest or anything, the atmosphere is so friendly and the fact that they're still holding up the guild name for their friends is really impressive."
"Same here," Draco agreed.
Harry smiled, "After Sabertooth, let's make a decision."
Sabertooth. The minute they walked in, they drew in on themselves, feeling the cold and oppressive atmosphere. "You must be newcomers," a boy about the same age as Harry piped up, walking over to them. "Hi! I'm Sting Eucliffe, the Light Dragon Slayer!"
Harry looked at the boy, "Hello. I'm Harry Potter, an Ice Make mage."
"That's cool," Sting said flippantly. "Are you strong? If you are, you should join! We're going to be the strongest guild out there!" The cheerful facade started to fade, and a glint entered his eye, "And I'm going to surpass Natsu-san!"
"That's nice, but we're not here to join, sorry. We're just travelling, and we thought it'd be interesting to see other guilds," Harry said, immediately feeling the hostility around them.
"I think I like Fairy Tail the best," Hermione said after they left Sabertooth with a nasty feeling.
The other nodded in acquiescence. "Sabertooth just gives me a bad feeling," Fred said, shuddering. "The guild master's like a freaking tyrant."
Harry nodded, "Yeah… Well, you want to go see the capital before we head back to Fairy Tail?"
Hermione nodded enthusiastically, "Of course! Isn't that where the King lives?"
"Yeah. The palace is really awesome," Harry said, smiling. "I think you'd find the library there really interesting as well."
(sorry, not going to go into detail about Crocus. Nothing really important happens so...)
After they finished touring Crocus for a week, they headed back to Fairy Tail. "Hey, but can we join? I mean, we're only going to be staying for a week or so…" Ron pointed out.
Harry blinked, "Oh, right. We're leaving after this week. Um, I guess we can talk to them about it."
"Can we take on a quest this week?" Fred asked. "I've been itching to try out my Crash!"
Hermione glared at him, "Fred, you know you can't be too rash."
George grinned, "Aw, Hermione, don't be a party pooper. It'll be fun to go on a quest and all."
"I think we should go on a quest," Harry decided. "It'd be fun, like George said."
Hermione rolled her eyes, "Oh you guys… Boys'll be boys I guess." She looked up, "Hey, I see the guild hall."
They walked in, and were greeted by a group of thugs vandalizing the hall. "Hey, what are you doing?" Ron called out, scowling.
The group of thugs turned around. The master of Fairy Tail, Macao, also turned, "Harry! What are you doing back here?"
The thugs grinned, "More fairies to beat up!" One large man with an axe charged at them.
Macao reached out, "No! Stop!"
Harry glared at the thug, and shouted, "Ice Make Cannon!"
The thug was blasted back, and the other thugs howled in rage, "This damn fairy thinks he can take us?"
Macao looked away, "Ice Make magic?" There was a sad undertone, with the memory of Gray.
Harry gritted his teeth at the thugs that dared to take advantage of the peaceful guild members. After the thugs were taken care of, Harry walked up to Macao, "We want to join Fairy Tail."
Macao's eyes widened, "You're going to join?" He glanced at the girl with blue hair who was tending the bar, "Kinana-san, we have six newcomers."
"Hello! Where do you want your guild marks?" the girl asked cheerfully, picking up the stamp.
Harry had his on the left side of his neck, while the Weasleys put theirs on their arms. Hermione's mark was stamped on the upside of her left hand and Draco's was on the back of his neck. While the other five were acquainting themselves with the other Fairy Tail members, Harry went over to talk to Macao. "Hey, Master-"
"Just call me Macao. I'm only substituting until the real Master comes back," Macao said.
And yet again, Harry's respect for these fairies went up another few notches. "Well, my friends and I have to leave in a week because of school. And we won't be able to return until next year."
Macao looked slightly disappointed, but said, "That's fine." He hesitated, then pressed on, "Why'd you choose Fairy Tail, and not Lamia Scale or Blue Pegasus?"
Harry smiled, "It just feels better here. The atmosphere, the love you have your guildmates and persistent you are. To stay here, and hold up the name in wait of friends who might not be alive… It's just something I really want to be part of."
Macao was silent, and Harry glanced at him, worried that he had made him upset. The older man just sighed, "I sometimes wonder why we're even waiting. What if they never return? Or what if they're dead? We would have spent our entire lives waiting in vain."
"But what if they are alive? What if they do return one day?" Harry said. He swung his legs in agitation, hands gripping the bench they were sitting on.
"Yeah, that would make our waiting all worth it," Macao agreed.
"Hey, Harry! Come over here! We need to do introductions!" Ron yelled. Harry looked up, and smiled as he trotted over.
His new family was waiting.
"Bye!" Kinana said sadly, hugging Hermione and waving to the other five boys. Her eyes sparkled with tears, "We're going to miss you all!"
Macao gripped Harry's hand in a firm handshake, "We will wait for you to return as well." He smiled, warm and welcoming.
"Fred-nii-san! George-nii-san, don't leave!" Romeo, Macao's seven year old son, pleaded with the twins. Everyone could hear the unspoken words: 'Don't leave like Natsu-nii did.'
The twins had an uncharacteristically sad expression. George knelt down, and hugged Romeo, "It's ok. We'll be back before you know it, kid."
"Next time, I'm going to beat you!" Ron said determinedly to Droy.
Droy laughed heartily, "I'm certainly going to miss having eating contests with you!"
Hermione and Draco just exchanged looks. "I don't think I've ever seen someone eat more than Ron like that…" Hermione muttered.
"Hurry up and come back, alright?" Alzack said to Draco. "You guys have to see Bisca and I get married!"
Draco grinned up at him, "We wouldn't miss it for the world!"
"Good luck and have fun at school," the guild wished them good luck. With a final farewell, the six of them vanished with a swirl of color.
Sorry! It was really rushed... But the next chapter won't be!
Next chapter: Harry goes with Fred, George and Ron to the Romanian Dragon Reserve, and they spend some time practicing their magic. To their surprise, they meet a dragon that was lucky enough to escape Acnologia's slaughter.
Well, to be clear, the dragon was with a Spatial Dragon, but that Spatial Dragon was not lucky enough to dodge Acnologia's attack before they escaped, so the Spatial Dragon's soul was taken and he's dead. But the dragon in the reserve is perfectly fine.
Also, to anyone who might think that all this is too 'convenient' well, I'm the author so I can dictate what goes on. Of course it's convenient. Isn't it convenient in the Harry Potter series that Harry, Ron and Hermione managed to get past all the protections surrounding the Sorcerer's Stone even though they were first years? Sometimes authors need to get things done, and we're not perfect, so it might seem too 'convenient'.
Sorry about that rant, but there was a review that kind of got on my nerves. Of course things are convenient sometimes... :|
Sorry! Hope you enjoyed the quick update and review!
