I should be studying for midterms... But I studied for a few hours already, so here is the next chapter! So much inspiration. I actually haven't determined a full outline for this story, but I'm waiting for Mashima Hiro-sama to finish up with the manga. TOO EPIC! I nearly fangirlled my heart out on the latest update. Man, too awesome. :)
Chapter Thirteen
Ravenclaw's eyes were wide, "A dragon from Earthland? Dragon Slaying Magic?" She leaned back, in awe, "That's one of the few magics I don't have in my Archive." At Harry's questioning gaze, she responded, "I don't have any of the Slaying Magics: dragon, demon or god."
"But that diary, and the Nott heir's more hostile behaviour is troubling," Slytherin said seriously. He lounged in a cushion chair in his frame. "But you can't accuse of him of anything yet. Just wait and be rational."
Harry nodded, "Yeah, we know. Hey, Professor Ravenclaw, do you have Healing Magic in your Archive? Healing Magic's Lost Magic now so-"
"Of course I have Healing Magic," Ravenclaw said, eyes gleaming with pride. " I have almost all the magics, like I said. And back in our day, if one didn't know Healing Magic, you were basically dead."
Harry blinked, "Oh. Ok. That's good. Draco and Ron will be learning Healing Magic so we don't die." He frowned suddenly, "Actually, I have a question. How is it that I can't use a wand, but they can even though they have Earthland Caster Magic?"
Ravenclaw also furrowed her brows, startled, "That's right! I've been intending to ask you about it all of last year, but I never got to it for some reason."
Harry nodded, fingers wound in the rug's threads, worried, "I've noticed Ron, Hermione and Draco's developing difficulty in using wands. Hermione not so much since she's exceptionally powerful, but she's been having difficulties since she does have two Earthland magics. Ron's been showing signs of it when we were in the dragon reserve, and a bit before first year ended. Draco too. Does this mean that they won't be able to use wands soon?"
Ravenclaw looked disturbed, as did the others. "This is interesting. I do not know. We were never able to use wands, and from that, I would assume that as they develop their Earthland magics, they will cease to be able to use their wands to perform magic."
Harry bit his lip, "And Fred and George… Both of them are extremely powerful, but their magics are also really advanced and takes a lot of magic to pull off. I think Fred's going to start losing his ability to use a wand first, since his Crash is probably the most advanced beside my Mind Magic and Dragon Slaying. Then George. How will they explain this to their families and friends?"
"Just say they're also able to use wandless magic or something," Godric said unconcernedly. He rested his hand on the hilt of his sword, "The good thing is that we'll have more time to focus on developing techniques and attacks."
"And this is why I called you a all brawn and no brain idiot," Slytherin growled exasperatedly. "There's a reason why we don't let anyone know that people other than Harry can use wandless magic. They would be clamoring over themselves in an attempt to get at not only our magic, but the children themselves. We cannot allow them to be in such danger. They accept Harry, because he's the Boy Who Lived, but the others will not be so lucky."
Helga agreed with Slytherin, "Earthland magic will be their trump card against Voldemort, but the only way to slow the process is to slow their Earthland magic developments, and that it something we cannot afford to do. If Acnologia is truly becoming more active and Zeref's been awakened, then they will have to be at their peaks of power."
Harry tilted his head, "Why can't we stay in Earthland for a year or so? Go on a few quests to gain experience and such."
"That would possibly raise more questions, especially from Draco and Ron's families if they don't know about Earthland," Helga pointed out. "And you need to deal with Voldemort."
Harry frowned suddenly, "Wait, why do I have to deal with Voldemort? If Voldemort were to come back, wouldn't the fight be between Dumbledore and him? Of course I'm not going to refuse revenge for my parents, but why would Voldemort want to go after me? Just because I didn't die? That would intrigue him, but not to the extent that he would go after me instead of Dumbledore."
Slytherin leaned back into his chair, his frame bathed in a warm golden glow that emanated from the candles around him. He spoke, "I guess Albus didn't tell you about this."
Harry narrowed his eyes, "So are you going to tell me?"
"You should know the reason why your parents died and why Voldemort is so adamant about going after you," Ravenclaw said. The other three agreed. She looked at him, "It was a prophecy. It predicted the demise of Voldemort by a child born on July 31. Voldemort decided that it would be you, since your parents had defied him three times as the prophecy said, and you were most similar to him. But you didn't die."
Harry blinked a few times, "Wait, so Voldemort's going after me because of a prophecy?" He laid back onto the carpet, hand propping his head up, "Does the Wizarding World know of this?"
"No, but they will expect you to take him down when he returns," Ravenclaw said. At Harry's incredulous look, she sighed, and explained, "Because you're the only one to ever stop the Killing Curse and 'killed' Voldemort while you were at it."
"But I was a one year old baby!" Harry said disbelievingly. "And currently, I am twelve years old! What do they expect me to do?"
"You did defeat Quirrell, Harry," Godric pointed out. "Who was possessed by Voldemort, so of course they will believe that you will be the saviour when Voldemort returns."
"Why didn't he die though?" Harry asked suddenly. "The textbooks all say that he died, but why didn't he? The Killing curse backfired didn't it?"
"We might know a lot of things, but we're not omnipotent nor are we all knowing," Slytherin said softly. "We have a few ideas as to why, but none of them have solid evidence. When we do, we will be sure to tell you." He cleared his throat, "Now, how about we start training? The last time we met, you had advanced to Third Level Second Tier. Have you practiced it since?"
"Well, only on animals. I don't want to hurt my friends," Harry admitted.
Slytherin pursed his lips, "You could ask your friends if you could practice on them, or go off to Knockturn Alley or something."
"Salazar!" Helga exclaimed, eyes wide. "Don't tell Harry to go to such a place!"
"What?" Slytherin said defensively, "Animals don't require as much magic power as humans do. And Harry will be fine in Knockturn Alley. He can take care of himself."
Ravenclaw calmly walked over to Slytherin's frame and swatted his head, "Idiot, Knockturn Alley is full of dark wizards and magical creatures. If they do manage to subdue Harry, it would not be worth it."
Godric snickered, "Hah, see? Even you can be an idiot!"
Slytherin glared at him, "I just wanted Harry to practice on real human beings as it would benefit him to do so."
"Uh, I'll just ask my friends," Harry said. He'd rather not go to Knockturn Alley, an alley that Fred and George said was basically the slums of the Wizarding World.
After training, Harry washed up and made his way over to Herbology. He wondered why he had washed up when Herbology would just reverse that. He sighed, and lifted his bag onto his shoulder.
"Harry, just the person I wanted to see!" an obnoxious voice boomed loudly. Harry turned around to see a tall man with blond hair and a set of white teeth in a smile so fake and insincere Harry wanted to punch it right off of his face.
Harry gritted his teeth at the man, muttering lowly under his breath, "Just the guy I don't want to see." He smiled up at the man, putting on a pleasant facade, "Professor Lockhart! How are you today?"
"Good, dear boy," the man said flamboyantly. "But I would be so much better if you hadn't cut my class! I know being famous is a very nice feeling, and I would totally encourage you to spend more time with your fans, but my class is very important!"
Harry stared at him, and deadpanned, "Didn't Professor Dumbledore tell you that I'm exempt from all classes that involve wands since I use wandless magic?"
"Oh, Harry, Harry, Harry," Lockhart laughed. "Fame is indeed a great friend, but you don't have to try that hard, my dear boy. I know not everyone can be as famous as I, but I can relate to you. So much fame is hard to handle, and cutting class and making up stories like being able to use wandless magic is not the way to go!" He patted Harry's head condescendingly, "No one except for maybe Albus can use wandless magic. Not even I can!"
Harry was seriously starting to get pissed off. He brushed aside Lockhart's hand, and said coldly, "I can perform wandless magic, and if you cannot believe me, I do not care. But I will not attend a class that will be of no use to me, no matter who the teacher is. I don't care about my fame, and nor am I making up stories to get more fame. Please do not accuse me of such falseties."
Lockhart's smile tensed slightly, but he still kept up the shallow cheerfulness, "Oh, Harry, Harry, Harry, if you really couldn't cope with you fame you could have just asked me!"
"Sir, if I do not hurry, I will be late for Herbology," Harry said harshly, moving away from Lockhart. He told himself silently to not give in to the impulse to bash Lockhart's head in.
The man just smiled again, "I'm opening a dueling club. I expect to see you there, Harry."
"What's gotten you into such a bad mood?" Draco asked him, nudging him.
Harry grumbled, "Lockhart. That's what."
"Oh, did you meet him?" Draco said, a hint of an amused smile at his mouth. "During class he was asking about you and stuff. Didn't believe you could use wandless magic."
"Yeah, I know," Harry growled. "That man is an idiot, a power hungry moron, and a fraud. I am so glad I don't have to take his class, but he's trying to talk to me between classes about handling my fame and shit."
"Ah, poor you. But at least you don't have to sit through his class and hear him talk about how he defeated this and that," Draco complained.
Harry suddenly, straightened, "We need to talk. With the rest of them too of course."
"About?"
Harry looked at him, "Let's talk when we're at the right place." Draco nodded.
"So you wanted to talk to us, Harry?" Fred asked, lounging in one of the chairs that they called up in Sanctuary.
Harry nodded, leaning forward in his chair, eyes serious. "We discovered something that is worrying." He looked at them all, "We believe that in a few months or so, if we continue to develop our magics at the pace that we are at now, you will cease to be able to use your wands as well."
"What?" George exclaimed, eyes wide and frantic.
"Why?" Hermione demanded, eyes flashing. "Why would we lose our ability to use wands to perform magic?"
Harry sighed, "We believe that because none of the Four were able to use wands, and nor can I. We all have Castor Type magic, so we assumed that you five will also lose that ability sooner or later."
"That's true," Ron said reluctantly. At the others' questioning gazes, he admitted, "I've started having problems with using my wand since the end of last year."
Draco nodded, "Yeah, me too…"
Fred and George shook their heads. "We don't have any problems," George said, taking a sip from the cup of water on the table next to him.
"But I assume you two will, especially since Crash and Take Over: Sacred Soul are both pretty advanced magics," Harry explained.
"How are we going to explain to our families? The professors? And our peers?" Hermione demanded, eyes frantic.
Harry glanced at the portraits of the four founders who had been silent. He spoke hesitantly, "We were thinking of taking next year off and just stay on Earthland for a year."
Hermione sweatdropped, "Harry, that doesn't solve any of our problems. In fact it brings up even more problems. The other students might accept the fact that you're missing a year since you're the Boy Who Lived, but us? They'll want to know why. And our families too."
Harry frowned, leaning back, "Why can't you guys just tell your families about this? If you trust them, I trust them."
Draco blinked at him, and deadpanned, "Do you really trust my father?"
Ron snorted, "Sorry, but no."
"Yeah, even I'm not sure if he would keep Earthland a secret. He might tell Nott Sr or Voldemort when he returns," Draco said. "But my mother's not as dedicated to Voldemort. She's always protected me when my father tried to force me into one of the secret Death Eater meetings about searching for Voldemort and such."
Harry looked thoughtful, "Well, I certainly do trust Mrs. Weasley with the secret, but with Mrs. Malfoy…" He looked at Draco, "If you trust her, I'll trust her too then. How about we tell them all during winter vacation? Since we planned on going to Earthland during that time, we might as well explain to them where we're going and such." After receiving nods of affirmation, he clapped his hands together, "Ok, we'll figure out the issue with our wands later, when it really becomes a problem. Now, question. Would any of you allow me to practice my Mind Magic on you?"
The rest of them blinked at him, and Ron held up his rat, "You can practice on Scabbers." The rat squealed, as if it understood them. It wriggled in Ron's grasp, trying to get away.
Harry sweatdropped, "I need to practice on a human. Preferably a wizard."
"Here," Ron handed his Scabbers. "Maybe magical creatures will work."
Harry sighed, but nodded, "Fine, fine. If you are really that against me practicing on you, fine. Let's give it a try." The rat squealed even louder, its struggling becoming more and more frantic. Harry stared at it, and activated his Mind Magic First Tier. Suddenly, he was in the rat's mind. What the hell? This isn't a normal animal's mind. This… This is a human's mind! He withdrew hastily, "Ron, what the fuck? Why is your rat a human?"
"What do you mean?" Ron asked, confused.
Hermione frowned, "You mean like an Animagus? A wizard that can turn into an animal?"
The rat tried to bite at Harry's hand, but he activated Second Tier, and the rat froze as it's mind was taken over. "Yeah, it's mind is that of a human. His name's Peter Pettigrew."
Did that seem a bit fast? Well, I hope you like this first, well, not really first, but first major canon divergence! :)
Review please! And tell me what you think. I know Harry might seem overpowered right now, but if you guys have read all the manga, or even watched all the anime episodes, Fairy Tail bad guys are soooo powerful! Like Mard Greer.
So, have a nice day, y'all!
