Chapter 37
Up high on Mount Olympus, Harry, Percy and Loki were with Sirius and the gods while Hermione, Annabeth, and Thalia were with the goddesses. They were preparing themselves for the Yule Ball.
"Gods have mercy," said Hades, "why does your hair not want to cooperate, Loki? You look like a demigod with a constant case of bedhead. Either that or the – ahem – nocturnal activities of you and Thalia have mussed it up like this … giggity ..."
"Harry has a wild bird's nest for hair, so what is Your point, Father?" said Loki. "Besides Hermione, who else has been grooming him – Hedwig? So, Harry, tell us: has Hedwig found anything delicious in your hair? Anything delicious there in your hair? Has she found any insects? Should Hermione feel jealous of your owl? Your owl who's on the prowl for a delicious meal she can find there in your hair? Maybe Hedwig has found pieces she can make a nest with? Up there in the Hogwarts Owlery?"
Percy and Sirius chortled as Harry glared at Loki for a brief moment.
"Oh, yeah, Loki?" said the Son of the Thunderer. "Your hair is migrating from the top of your head towards the back of your head, towards the sides, and towards your face! What is the name of that sleeping furry animal on your face, I wonder? Animalis Villosum Faciei?Wait a minute, that's not a furry animal on your face – that's your beard!"
Everyone laughed at Harry's comeback.
~HALF BLOOD HARRY POTTER~
First of the ladies to appear was Thalia in a shining white dress.
Loki kissed her hand. "Milady, accept this white chrysanthemum corsage, for you are a fair ray of light in an otherwise dark life."
Next of the ladies to appear was Annabeth in a sea-blue dress. Percy, at a loss for words, kissed her hand and gave her a hyacinth corsage.
Last but not least was Hermione in a red dress. Harry kissed her hand and gave her a red lily corsage.
Poseidon pulled Sirius aside. "Rumor has it you are taking Sally with you to the Yule Ball."
"That rumor is true, Lord Poseidon. Do you have any objections?"
"I have none, as long as you treat her well. One day, you could be a good stepfather to Percy … not that I would pressure you into that direction. Given all Our duties, it is difficult to be there for Our kids."
"It is an idea I have been mulling around in my noggin. Do you think Percy would accept me as his stepfather?"
"It would shock Me beyond measure if he did not accept you. You are a jolly fellow, as well as Harry's godfather. No pressure, but whatever you do, don't break her heart."
"Sirius," said Harry, "are you coming or not?"
"Yeah, I'm coming! Hold your ..." he came outside, "horses?"
"Cerberuses, to be precise," said Loki, "but since that seems so awkward to say in English, I use the Greek term Κερβεροι."
There were eight Κερβεροι, and they greeted Sirius with a thunderous "WOOF!"
Sirius got onto the carriage with everyone else as the cover closed over them.
"On behalf of Cerberus Airlines, I wish you welcome. I am your flight captain, Loki Palmer, Prince of the Underworld. Please make sure your seat belts are fastened and your tray tables are in the upright position. In the event of a loss of cabin pressure, there will be oxygen masks available. There are a couple toilets in the back in case you need them … that tidbit is for Hermione and Annabeth. I know you two don't like flying."
"Yeah, in particular with someone crazy like you at the helm," said Hermione.
"Au contraire, Hermione – what about that time you and Harry were flying around on Buckbeak?"
Over the loudspeakers within the carriage, Hermione could hear her voice: "Harry? I have a confession to make."
"What's that, Hermione?"
"I don't like fly-ING!"
Loki grinned at her. "I rest my case. Sirius, since we are in a bit of a rush, will you push the shiny red button?"
"Ooh, shiny red button!"
Hermione glanced to Annabeth. "Here we go again ..."
To the accompaniment of their screams, the chariot sped off.
"Ladies, please, relax if you can. How about some music?"
Loki put "Promised Land" by Elvis Presley onto the radio.
Sirius sang along, and during an instrumental break, he said, "Ah, the King of Rock & Roll. He may be dead, Loki ..."
"Yes, he is, but his music lives on! If y'all would take a look, y'all will see … oopsie ..."
"OOPSIE?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN, OOPSIE?!" said Annabeth.
"LOKI, WE'RE IN ORBIT!" said Hermione.
"I can see that, Hermione! Fact is, I have never used that red button before, but you can't deny the view is beautiful, right?"
"Yes, the view is beautiful, but this isn't our destination – Hogwarts is!" said Annabeth.
"Let's not forget stopping in London to pick up Percy's mom," said Sirius.
"SHUT UP, SIRIUS! YOU WERE THE ONE TO PUSH THAT SHINY RED BUTTON!"
"But I like shiny red buttons!"
"Well, excuse me for trying to inject a detour with a little beauty into our journey, Miss Fussy Britches!" said Loki.
As the chariot zoomed back to Earth, Percy said to Sirius, "You are taking my mom?"
"Well, yeah, Percy. She is a nice lady, after all … and what a better opportunity than this to spend some time with you all?"
"No arguments there."
The chariot stopped in front of 12 Grimmauld Place, and Sally Jackson came on board. Loki saluted her. "Good evening, Miss Jackson."
"Good evening, Loki." She came up to Sirius and kissed him. "Thank you for inviting me, Sirius."
"Miss Jackson, I suggest that unless you want to fall on Sirius's lap and see what POPS up … giggity … you had better sit down and buckle up."
Percy made a facepalm to his tomato red face. "Oy … I did not need that mental image, Loki."
"Glad to help, Seaweed Brain."
"I don't need you to put any more evil thoughts into my head, Loki," said a grinning Sirius. "The ones there don't need any additional company."
