Chapter 12

They were all stunned by what came out of Renesme's mouth. When she had requested a meeting at the hospital they had all been surprised, but this was the last thing they were expecting. They had their suspicions concerning what was going on, but as it turned out they were all wrong. This was not that in fact this had them silently questioning her sanity. They had all thought she was going to tell them she thought she was pregnant, especially considering how Jake, and her were on each other like rabbits. But now as surprised as they were they were glad this wasn't the case. Though Jake was the happiest of them all something clear by the sigh he released as soon as it was clear that was not the case. Someday he did want to be with Nessie that way, he did want to be with her permanently, but now was not the time. She needed to graduate high school the first time at least and have her chance to do something with her life. He needed to become someone she could be proud of, someone who could take care of her, and Jake knew he wasn't that person now. Not to mention if Edward came back to find her pregnant he would skin him alive then make a human out of him and that was the last thing anybody wanted.

"How long have you been having these dreams?" asked Carlisle making Renesme sit down?

" I don't know exactly…since a little while before dad and Alice left…before the Volturi arrived," breathed Renesme her eyes staying floor bound afraid to find them all looking at her like she was insane.

"You all think I'm crazy…don't you? You're going to send me away or lock me away," exclaimed Renesme letting her fear get the best of her. She couldn't keep her tears at bay in that moment hiding her face in her hands as she waited for their answer. She felt crazy now, for a while the dreams had been nice especially since she never really knew her mom, but now that she was speaking about them out loud they didn't feel that way. Everything suddenly felt all muddled.

"Sweetheart, we would never do that…we love you. There is a logical explanation for this…it could be simply that you miss your mom…especially since you never knew her. We would never ever in your life think you crazy or send you away," said Rosalie soothingly making her look at them. They pulled her hands away from her face and wiped away her tears even as they continued down her face. Before Nessie knew it they were both hugging her and Nessie smiled because she had known all along they would never leave her. Her fear had gotten the best of her.

"We love you, Ness…Bella's just on your mind. We always dream about the things on our mind," whispered Jacob moving to join the two women at his girlfriend's side. Wrapping his arms around her from behind he kissed the top of her head making her smile up at him instantly. She wanted to tell him he was right, but these dreams felt like something more. Something that she couldn't quite explain.

The family surrounded her in that moment Carlisle towering above the rest as head and each repeated these sentiments. It was simple, she missed her mother, but glancing at Carlisle, Nessie knew he was just as suspicious as she was. He thought maybe it could be more, but he wasn't sure if he should voice this to his family or not. It was with this in mind that he asked his next question.

"How do you feel about these dreams? Are they something you want to put a stop to?" whispered Carlisle clearly being cautious on the subject. He wasn't sure if he was able to sleep if would want to stop dreams of someone he loved, but Nessie might be different. He could see that Renesme wasn't sure about it herself for in that moment she seemed to stop beginning to think intently.

"I don't know…I guess not…I just needed to know I wasn't crazy. I wanted to know what was causing them, the truth is I kind of like them…I like seeing her. Makes me feel like maybe I'm getting to know her even though I never got to meet her," said Renesme clearly thinking it all through even as she spoke. For Bella Swan had always been a mystery to her. Sure, her family talked of her all the time, but that wasn't the same as actually knowing the real person. And these dreams in a way gave her that opportunity. Carlisle knelt down to her level in that moment taking both her hands in his he made her look him straight in the eye.

"Renesme, you're doing a report on your mother, your dad, your aunt are gone, so in effect every parent you've ever had is gone. That's why you're having these dreams, so just for a little while you have one parent back," whispered Carlisle watching as she started to nod in understanding.

They eyes stayed locked for a moment then as Nessie processed everything he had said. Maybe he was right, the dreams after all had started when she had begun her report, and had intensified after her dad left. It was as that thought entered her mind that Nessie started to cry again, for she was afraid he was never coming back, and that was her worst fear. That her dad and Alice would be gone forever. As she started to cry again she felt each pair of arms wrap around her. But nothing more was said they only let her cry.

"Dad and Alice aren't coming back, are they? I'm never going to see them again and all because I was so stupid," exclaimed Renesme her whole body shaking with sobs. Not one of them answered her though; they didn't want to give her false hope because they really couldn't say. They were all afraid of that question and its answer because maybe they wouldn't.
