It was a quiet and awkward car ride to the hospital. The tension was thick in the air. Naruto was nervous, he knew the hospital they're going to was the same one Gai had died at. Naruto glanced at Hidan, who sat in the passenger seat, he wondered, if it came down to it, would Hidan sacrifice himself to save the blond? Or would he rather save himself. Naruto looked out the window, looking at the scenery rushing passed them in a blur. He saw a few random zombies walking about, a few slowly turning and trying to grab at the car from a distance. If the situation was different, Naruto would have thought it was funny. He sighed silently, looking next to him at Sasuke. The Uchiha had a grim look on his face, probably noticing the intense silence and trying to ignore it the best he could.

The car stopped a bit away from the hospital so as not to grab the zombies' attention.

"We walk from here," Kakuzu stated.

Naruto felt a cold shiver run up his spine. Kakuzu's harsh deep voice and the tense situation didn't sit to well with him. Kakuzu and Hidan walked down the road towards the large building, Sasuke and Naruto following behind closely.

"There's only a few of those bitches in front of the fucking door," Hidan noted, looking around for any sign that there are more of them.

"You think we can kill them all?" Sasuke asked.

"Might as well, it'll make our escape a lot easier," Kakuzu said.

He nodded to the others and they quickly moved to the few zombies around the area. Sasuke used his bow and arrows to shoot the things in the head as he was one of the few who had good aim. Hidan used his hatched to stab the zombies in the head. Kakuzu and Naruto stayed behind, getting the few who managed to escape Sasuke and Hidan.

"Is that all of them?" Naruto asked as he looked around, hands shaking slightly.

"Seems like it," Kakuzu said as he went for the door.

He opened it a small crack, glancing inside before opening it fully and walking inside. Sasuke ran in front, next to Kakuzu, he nodded at Sasuke and they both peered around a door, each looking into a different room for any sign of life. Soon they emerged into the room that held most of the medicine and bandages. Quickly they moved and packed what they could find to be useful into their backpacks. There was a sound in the distance, a quiet choked out groan. They didn't notice. Naruto was busy packing his bag when he felt hands grabbing him and pulling him forward. He let out a strangled yell and gasped as he almost instantly recognised the person. Bowl cut black hair, bushy eyebrows and green spandex.

"Bushier brow sensei?" Naruto asked quietly as the man tried to bite him. He managed to push the man away, shocked when he noticed that this wasn't the same man he used to know. The rotten and ripped flesh around his face was evidence of this.

Naruto couldn't reach his weapon without letting go of the man and if he did that, he would surely get bit or eaten.

"Help!" He yelled.

Hidan heard the small yell for help. The moment went in slow motion for him. He had a decision to make. Save himself or save Naruto. The earlier conversation rang through his mind again.

'No one hates you,'

'Hidan does,'

He didn't think any further, he had something to prove. So he did the only thing logical, well logical for Hidan, and tackled the man they used to know. He and the zombie wrestled a bit before Hidan screamed for Kakuzu. The man stabbed his weapon into the zombie, killing it and pulled it of the silver haired man.

"Ah, son of a bitch!" Hidan yelled as he lifted his right hand and lightly pressed it to the left side of his neck and shoulder. When he pulled his hand back, it was cover in a dark red liquid. Blood.

"No," Kakuzu whispered as he saw the wound on Hidan's neck, the shape of teeth.

"We have to go," Kakuzu said quickly, going to help Hidan up.

"No, dumbass, I've been bit, you fucking know what happens when you're bit!" Hidan said, pulling his arm out of Kakuzu's grasp.

"I don't care!" Kakuzu roared, making the others jump.

"We're going to let Tsunade look at you or even Sasori, I don't care who! There has to be something we can do," Kakuzu continued, the look in his eyes said that there's no room for argument. He pulled Hidan to his feet and grimaced when the teen moaned in pain and collapsed into his arms.

"M-man this hurts like a bitch," Hidan said, attempting to laugh but ended up moaning in pain again. Kakuzu grabbed Hidan's right arm and wrapped it around his neck, holding his hand. Wrapping his left arm around Hidan's waist, he motioned for the other two to grab the bags and go. They rushed down the halls and out the exit, relieved to see that it was still empty. They quickly moved to the car, Kakuzu sat Hidan in the passenger seat and closed the door, rushing around the car to the driver's side once he noticed a horde of zombies coming their way, attracted by Hidan's blood.

"Stay with us, Hidan," Kakuzu said as he sped the car down the road.

"Make sure he stays awake," Kakuzu said to Sasuke and Naruto so he could focus on the road. They continued to talk to the zealot, distracting the man with ridiculous topics or angering him so he could cuss them out, all to make sure he stayed awake. When they arrived at the mansion, they rushed inside, Kakuzu carrying Hidan bridal style. It was quiet, too quiet. Kakuzu felt his heart pound in his chest. He knew, he knew the Jashinist wouldn't make it. The quiet of the house let him know that this is what it's going to be like once the zealot died. He let out a panicked breath, it almost sounded like a sob before he rushed into the living room.

"PEIN!" He screamed, his legs nearly giving out under him when Hidan passed out.

The ginger rushed into the room, frightened by the panicked scream. When he noticed Hidan, it felt like the wind was knocked out of him. No. Not another! Not Hidan! He rushed to Kakuzu and took Hidan into his arms before he sank to his knees.

"Tsunade! Tsunade, come now!" He screamed as he looked down at Hidan. He shook him lightly, tears building in his eyes and guilt welling up inside him.

"C'mon, Hidan, stay with me, please!" Pein begged, lightly rocking back and forth, clutching the boy in his arms to his chest.

"What is with all this noise?" Tsunade asked as she ascended the stairs, her annoyance quickly disappeared once she noticed a blood soaked Kakuzu leaning heavily on the couch and Pein rocking back and forth with a person in his arms.

She rushed forward and proceeded to look over the boy, noticing the bite on his neck. She instructed Naruto and Sasuke to bring her bandages and alcohol to clean his wound. There was nothing more she could do for him. Pein stood up shakily and walked out of the house, covered in blood. He stumbled about, searching.

Konan, Itachi, Kisame, Tobi and Zetsu were outside, attending to Zetsu's precious garden.

"No! You're doing it wrong, idiot," Zetsu scolded Kisame. The shark sighed.

"Mister Zetsu? Can we please take a break?" Tobi asked as he was sweating heavily.

"Hn, fine," Zetsu answered as they went and sat underneath a tree. It was quiet for a little while.

"Wait, Pein?" Zetsu asked as he spotted their leader.

Everyone stood watching their leader stumble toward them.

"Is that blood?" Itachi asked.

"Pein?!" Konan yelled as she ran towards her boyfriend.

"Konan," he said as he collapsed in her arms, hugging her tightly.

"What happened, Pein?" Konan asked as the others caught up, standing behind her.

"Hidan, h-he, blood a-and Kakuzu, it's my fault, it's my fault!" He yelled, ripping himself out of her grasp and grabbed his hair, tugging on it.

They took off running, understanding that something had happened to either Hidan or Kakuzu. When they got inside they went to the zealot and miser's room. There they found Kakuzu, sitting in front of the door, staring into the room, his face expressionless. Kisame stayed with Kakuzu, sitting next to him. Zetsu had stayed with Pein, afraid the man might do something irrational.

"Oh, Hidan," Konan spoke quietly, tears falling from her eyes.

"How could this happen?" Itachi asked.

"H-he saved me," Naruto whimpered, he'd just entered the room.

"Saved you? From one of them?" Konan asked in disbelief.

"F-from Gai sensei," Naruto said as tears leaked down to his cheeks.

Itachi gripped the sheets tightly, not believing that this has happened. He turned and stormed out of the room, followed by Konan. Tobi left, asking Naruto to look after Hidan and that he was going to check on Pein.

A quiet moan rang through the air. Hidan was waking up. He glanced around and spotted Naruto, timidly standing a few feet from his bed.

"Why did you do it?" Naruto whispered, stepping closer.

"Heh, I had something to prove," Hidan said with a smirk on his lips.

"Prove what?" Naruto asked almost curiously.

"That I don't fucking hate you,"
