Kakashi sighed as he stared out of the window. They had taken longer than he anticipated to get to the Hyuga mansion, but now that they were finally there, everyone was exhausted. Sadness gripped tightly at his heart as he stared out the window, unable to sleep. He could not stop thinking of his own friends and students who had passed. He was deathly worried about Naruto, Sasuke and Hinata. Sasuke he knew would most likely be alright and would no doubt already be on his way back to them. Naruto was determined, so he would be fine as well. Hinata, on the other hand, he had his doubts about. She would most likely get panicked and scared, unable to make necessary decisions and might already be dead. Of course, there still is the chance that they might be together, he honestly hoped for this more than anything.
Kakashi stared at nothing in particular as his thoughts wondered to his pink haired student. Sakura was admittedly a little annoying in the beginning, but she had grown into a compassionate, wonderful person. She had her own hopes and dreams, but she would never be able to fulfill them. Gai had been so loud and honestly, very hyperactive for their age. They had been friends since they were mere children and Gai had always been there for him, even as he was slightly cold towards him in the beginning. Gai had always been a warm, welcoming presence that often brought out the better in a person. But that was all gone now. Gai, Sakura, they were no more. They were dead. Dead. Kakashi clenched his eyes shut as realization settled over him, freezing his heart. As he opened his eyes, a movement near the house next door caught his eye, though he shrugged it off. He was just tired, after all.
Naruto slowly stalked to his house, his hand trembling slightly as he reached towards the doorknob. The door made little to no sound as he pushed it open, stepping inside. Naruto stood still for a moment, listening carefully for any indication that someone or something was inside. When all he was greeted with was silence, he casually walked into the house, deciding to get some supplies first. Naruto walked into the kitchen, opening cupboards and pulling random things out. Luckily, the sun had started to rise, so there was enough light in the kitchen for him to see what he was taking. Naruto smiled as he grabbed the few cups of ramen they had out of one cupboard. Opening the fridge next, he quickly grabbed the few bottles of water out. Naruto nodded, proud of the amount of food he had gathered as he slid his backpack off, quietly packing everything into it.
Once finished, he hefted the backpack onto his shoulders before walking towards the stairs. Once at the top, he went to the bathroom, collecting a few medical supplies. Naruto looked at the photo's that hung on the wall as he walked to his own bedroom. He felt tears gather as he stared at a photo of his parents on their wedding day. Naruto wondered if his mother was okay. He missed his father. Naruto might have looked exactly like his father, but he had definitely gained his mother's personality. His father, Minato, was always calm and collected, though he was an extremely friendly and understanding man. His mother, Kushina, was a hyperactive, short tempered, maybe a little crazy, red haired woman. But no matter how different, the two still loved each other. Naruto smiled as he thought of a few happy memories with his parents.
The moment was broken, however, when there was a small sound, something like a cupboard being closed, a small bump. Tensing, Naruto gripped his weapon tightly. Slowly, he walked over towards his parents' bedroom, his breathing slightly loud. Gathering his courage, Naruto slowly opened the door, nearly dropping his weapon. There was his mother, slowly turning towards him, her flesh rotten and torn, once beautiful, lively blue eyes now a dull yellow brown. She slowly started to shuffle towards him, reaching out to him, looking suspiciously like she wanted to give him a hug. But Naruto knew better, he knew she would try to eat him the minute he was at arms length, but still, he stood frozen, unaware of his tears falling down his cheeks, his grip loosening on his weapon. He lost his mother, too.
Naruto stumbled back a bit, a sob leaving his lips, but he still didn't move to kill her. As she got closer, he lightly pushed her back, still stumbling. As he stumbled, he tripped, falling to the floor and onto his back. Naruto sat up, watching through blurry sight as his mother fell over his legs, clumsily falling onto the floor in a heap. She still tried to get to him, her jaws snapping even though he was out of reach now that he had scrambled away. She crawled after him, groaning and snapping her teeth. Naruto pushed her away, crying loudly as he moved away, his back hitting a wall. Once she was near him again, Naruto finally swung his weapon, burying it in her skull, instantly stopping all of her movements. Naruto let her go, watching as she limply fell to the side. Naruto curled in on himself, crying loudly at his loss, not knowing what else to do. It was silent, something that never happened in his house, at least, until now.
Kakashi sat at the dining table, watching as everyone sat around, eating slowly, making light conversation. Kakashi put his elbow on the table, his hand rubbing at his eyes. He was honestly too nauseated to eat at the moment, not to mention his desire to go lay down and get a few more hours of sleep, to try and get rid of this lightheaded feeling. It was honestly annoying. Kakashi reached forward, gripping his glass of water, though it nearly slipped as it was wet. Kakashi stared for a moment. The water wasn't cold, so it couldn't have wetted the outside of the glass. Feeling confused, he shrugged it off and quickly chugged the water down before slowly getting to his feet. As he walked to the window, he passed a set of double doors. Unsure of where it lead, Kakashi reached for the doorknobs, trying to open the doors, but they were locked.
Kakashi stared at the doors, sure he had heard something from the other side, but it was drowned out by the conversation in this room. Slowly, he leaned forward, pressing his ear to the wooden surface, he tried his best to ignore the chatter of the others. When he heard feet shuffling, moans and groans, Kakashi flinched away, as if the wood had burned him, staring with wide eyes at the wooden doors.
"Kakashi?" Shikamaru asked, gaining the attention of everyone.
"We have to leave, NOW!" Kakashi turned quickly, though he nearly fell into the doors, as he was extremely dizzy at this point.
"What is it?" Ino asked as everyone stood up.
"I see you've figured it out, Kakashi," Hiashi spoke, as he seemed to have appeared when everyone was distracted.
"Hiashi, this is dangerous! What if those things get out?! We're all in danger!" Kakashi yelled.
"I know, but you see, it is extremely hard to get rid of your family." He said as he stepped to the side.
"Is that a gas bottle?" Kisame asked.
Shikamaru's eyes widened in realization. The sick feeling, dizziness, the excessive condensation.
"You've purposely leaked gas in the house?" Shikamaru asked in disbelief.
Hiashi nodded before he answered.
"Yes. My only wish was that Neji and Hinata could have joined us, but that is too late now." He spoke as he pulled out a box of matches.
"Hiashi, NO!" Kakashi screamed.
Sai grabbed Ino, moving to jump out of the window, but everything seemed to slow down.
"RUN!" Kakashi screamed, but it was too late.
Kakashi glanced over his shoulder in time to see Hiashi light a match, it was extremely close to the gas tank.
Naruto clumsily got to his feet, sniffling and whiping at his face, when there was a massive explosion. The windows shattered, the shockwave throwing the blond completely off his feet. Ears ringing, Naruto slowly got to his feet, stumbling to the window. His eyes widened as he saw the Hyuga mansion on fire and in pieces. Naruto wasted no time in running down the stairs, ripping of one of the curtains on his way out. Once Naruto got there, he quickly climbed over the gate and ran closer to the sight. He stood there, not knowing what else to do when a figure ran out of what remained of the mansion. The person was on fire. Naruto ran forward, opening the curtain and practically tackled the person to the ground, though he was quick to pat out the fire. Naruto pulled of the curtain once he was sure the person wasn't in flames anymore.
"Tobi?! Are you okay? Hey! Can you hear me?!" Naruto asked, eyes shining with worry.
Tobi was silent for a moment, though his shaky breathing let Naruto know he was still alive.
"N-Naruto," Tobi whimpered.
"Hey, it's alright, I'm here, you're gonna be okay," Naruto whispered.
Tobi's mask had melted onto his skin and the male found it difficult to speak.
"Naruto has to find...Sasuke and...Hinata," Tobi spoke, his voice soft and wavering before his breathing stopped.
Naruto stared wide eyed at the body of his one time friend, not knowing what else to do. After a few moments, Naruto clumsily got to his feet, walking, searching through the wreckage for any possible survivors.
"Iruka sensei!" Naruto yelled once he noticed the male moving.
"Naruto," Iruka spoke, voice strained.
He had severe burns and pieces of glass sticking out of him.
"Iruka sensei, what? What do I do?!" Naruto yelled frantically.
Iruka merely shook his head, trying his best to smile. He was leaning against the wall of the mansion. He was the closest to the window and when the explosion happened, it threw him out. Though he was still burned.
"Hey, hey," Iruka spoke softly, placing a hand on Naruto's cheek.
Naruto was crying again, his heart pounding in his chest.
"Listen to me, Naruto. You have to go find Sasuke and Hinata, they weren't here when the explosion happened," Iruka instructed.
"B-But what a-about you?" Naruto asked, tears glistening in his eyes.
"I'm too weak to go with you, Naruto. I'm not going to make it. If I don't die because of my wounds, then I'll die of infection. I'll just slow you down, but I can wait here if Sasuke and Hinata come," Iruka said, his own tears starting to gather.
"B-but," Naruto sobbed, not wanting to leave his sensei.
"I know Naruto. Go, hurry," Iruka gestured for him to leave.
Naruto hesitated for a moment.
"Go!"
