Chapter 11: The Greatest Prey of All
"BARBARA!" Spider-Man yells out against the fires and crumbling of the quickly collapsing clock tower. "BARB WHERE ARE YOU?!" Crawling along the wall his Spider-Sense is constantly on alert, only flaring when.
SPIDER-SENSE!
A section of the wall a few feet in front of him explodes outward, and a smoke covered visage steps through. The blurred figure's head turns to the hero, and it's eyes flash red. Spider-Man barely manages to back flip along the wall before a large fist punches another equally large hole where he just was. The building shakes once again, groaning against the constant battering it's taking.
"You are fighting a loosing battle Totem. This only ends one way for you." Morlun says as he begins to pulls his fist back.
Spidey lands on the floor, and sticks both web lines against the man's back. Grabbing the lines he shouts as he swings them toward the opposite wall.
Morlun is thrown violently backward, crashing through the wall behind him. He breaks through the brick and metal into the room beyond, as if it were nothing. Spider-Man follows the Inheritor through the newly made door. The Totem Vampire is just getting to his feet off of a destroyed bed, when Peter falls on him.
The Wall Crawler sinks a strait punch into Morlun's face, making him fall back a step. The hunter retaliates with a downward swing of his right. Spidey ducks under the strike, and throws a left roundhouse into his right side, under the arm. Once again his blow seems to do little, and feels like he's hitting reinforced steel.
Morlun pulls his left arm up and back, throwing it down at his prey in an attempt to grab him. Spidey throws himself backward on his back, tucking his knees up to his chest. The Inheritor's hand slams into the floor cracking it under the force.
"Have a nice trip!" Spider-Man shouts, kicking both feet with his entire strength into Morlun. The man is sent through the far wall and out into Gotham. "See ya next fall."
SPIDER-SENSE!
Still on his back the floor under Peter gives way, and he falls with it. Luckily the next floor down breaks the fall. Spider-Man quickly rolls off the debris and looks around to gather his bearings. Breathing fast, he scans the room, noting that he's in workout room. 'Where the hell are you Barb?!'
Seeing nothing in the room Spidey runs for the door. With the power already out, he doesn't trust the automatic door and sticks his right palm against it. His arm flexes under his damaged costume and he rips the door from the wall. Throwing it behind him Spider-Man dashes into the slightly smokey hallway.
"BARB ARE YOU DOWN HERE! BARB!" Peter yells as loud as he can. 'C'mon please be...' Stopping at the first door he sees he's about to elbow it in, when a someone's call catches his attention.
"PETER! PETER! I'm stuck in the elevator!" Barbara Gordon's distant voice shouts among the chaos, barely echoing from the metal box she is in. Luckily Spider-Man's hearing is superhuman. 'YES!' Immediately he takes off down the hallway again, heading for the sound of her voice.
"BARB!" He calls out overjoyed and relieved. The sliding doors are ajar about a foot, letting him see that the elevator itself is below the floor. Just the top of the box is showing between the doors. He drops to the floor and peers into the dimly lit machine.
"Peter, thank god! The power is off and the elevator is stuck." Barb says in a relatively collected tone. She's obviously been in situations much more dire. Though being wheel chair bound likely adds a new level of worry.
"Say no more. I'll get you out of there in a jiffy. Hang on." He reassures her, as he stands up and easily forces the sliding doors the rest of the way apart. Squatting he grabs the ceiling of the elevator, and with a grunt begins pulling it up forcibly. The breaks grind against the roller guides, forcing him to put in a little more effort.
"Barb are you okay? Are you hurt?" He asks when he gets the box half way up.
"I'm fine. Probably a bruise or two when I fell out of my chair, but nothing serious." She answers as she comes into view of the Web-Slinger.
"Well that's nothing to a tough girl like yourself." Spidey kids as he shifts the elevator's weight onto his right arm, freeing up his left. He reaches down with that arm, and Barbara grabs his hand.
"You know it." She smiles up at the blank lenses of his mask, and begins pulling herself toward him using his strength as an anchor.
Once she's got a good grip, Spider-Man carefully and gently hauls her out the rest of the way. He lets go of the box, which falls an inch before the breaks catch it. "You have no idea how glad I am to know you're alright. I'm so sorry this happened, it's all my fault." Peter bends down and hugs Barbara, who returns it with a gusto.
"I'm okay, it's okay. But what the hell is going on? One minute I'm coming up to meet you and your friend, and the next the building is on fire and I'm stuck in the elevator." Miss Gordon asks, holding tightly to him with the hug. Spidey slips his right arm under her legs, and picks her up bridal carry style.
"Short and sweet, a guy named Morlun is attacking me. He's from my own dimension, and he's hunting me because I'm some sort of mystical totem for spiders. His kind feed off totems apparently. I don't know how he got here, or why he's even still alive. I've personally killed him twice, but somehow he's back and here." Peter quickly explains as he stands up. "The full story'll have to wait. We need to..."
SPIDER-SENSE!
Spider-Man leaps backwards down the hall, as the roof above them shatters and caves in where they just were. Red eyes alight amongst the smoke and dust, before Morlun blows through the cloud at him. Peter grits his teeth and jumps in the air. The Inheritor runs right under him, and Spider-Man reaches up with his right hand to stick to the ceiling.
The Inheritor's hand grips his ankle, and rips him back down. Barbara screams as they are flung back to the floor. Spider-Man cradles her against him as tight as he can, until his back bursts into pain. Oracle bounces out of his arms and falls away, as his body indents into the floor.
Morlun stands above him still holding his ankle, a triumphant smirk on his face. "A valiant effort, but you cannot escape me once I've touched you. I will feed on you."
Spider-Man aims both wrists up and releases dual streams of web at his face. Morlun swiftly brings his free hand up, and lets the webbing wrap it instead. With a 'Hmph' the tall man rips Spider-Man from the floor and smashes him into right the wall, busting him through it. In the same motion Morlun tears him back into the hallway, and slams him against the floor again.
"oowwGAH!" Spider-Man whimpers, until a large knee plants itself hard on his right arm. He barely had time to look at what was pinning it down, before Morlun's right hand wraps around his throat. Any cry of protest is choked out. Spidey's left gabs onto the offending arm, desperate to try and free himself.
Kneeling on the totem's arm the Inheritor smiles. The vampire takes the second of reprieve to sink his teeth into the webbing on his hand. He rips the steel strength organic material off easily, freeing his hand. Though he looks as if he just realizes something when he does.
"You were certainly more of a challenge than most of your counterparts. Had I not fed on several other Spider Totems prior to this, you may have had the upper hand. Know though that I take great pleasure in the fact that you are a variant of the Spider of 616." Morlun gloats as he begins to drain the essence from Peter.
Spider-Man growls out something incomprehensible, and his fingers dig desperately into the arm. His energy is quickly being sapped, but he can't let it end like this.
"Last words Totem?" Morlun's victorious face dances in and out of shadows from the flames above them. He lets off just enough for his prey's speech to be recognizable.
"Mono...loguing." Spider-Man says weakly, between gasps.
"Monologuing?" The vampire repeats, slightly confused. Without warning a Batarang sinks into Morlun's neck. He shouts in pain and inadvertently frees Spider-Man's windpipe. His knee shifts off his arm a bit as well.
Taking the moment Spidey slips his arm free, and using his grasp on Morlun's other arm, pulls him to the left while bringing his right elbow up. He drives his elbow into the side of the Inheritor's head, and rolls with the man, so he's on top of him.
Morlun has no time to react as Spider-Man lays into his face with a a blur of punches. Each punch dents the floor more with his head. SPIDER-SENSE! The floor finally gives way to the tons of force being exerted.
Spidey raises his right arm at the last moment, and sticks a web line onto a chunk of remaining ceiling. As Morlun falls with the floor, Spider-Man stays in place. Breathing hard, Peter looks down the hall and sees Oracle holding herself up with one arm, smiling.
Throwing himself over the large hole in the floor he lands next to her. "Still got it, eh Batgirl. Thanks for the save." He says genuinely rubbing his neck a bit.
"Anytime Spider. Now get me out of here before that thing gets back up." Barb says in a hurried tone.
"Anything my lady says, but first." Spider-Man turns back around, and shoots multiple lines to the crumbling floor above the hole he just made.
"AHHH!" He shouts and tears much of the remaining floor above loose. The floor crumples under his strength, and collapses down into the crater burying the Inheritor under it. As expected the rest of the story above begins to shake and creak.
"Okay where's the nearest window?" Peter quickly scoops Barbara up into his arms. She points to the closed door from earlier. "One exit coming up." Spider-Man easily kicks in the closed door, and runs the two of them into the dark, smoke filled room. Rays from Gotham City's lights hazily illuminate the room from the large window inside.
"Hang on tight." As he charges at the window, and Barbara clings tighter. Once he's close enough he jumps and spins backwards. Spider-Man crashes through the glass back first, and they sail into air five stories up.
Sparkling shards fall around them, as Spider-Man turns them back around and they enter free fall. He frees up a hand and sticks a web line to the nearest building. They swing into a long pendulum arc, soaring high over the streets. He continues the swing into it's crescendo high over the nearby buildings. Spider-Man's lenses scan the roofs nearby.
"Oh my god... the clock tower." Oracle utters dolefully, watching her headquarters engulfed in flame and the top floors falling in on themselves. Spidey glances back to see what she sees and grits his teeth. Guilt and anger quickly rise up inside him, seeing the large glass clock shatter and sink away.
"Barb I'm so sorry. I never wanted this to happen." Peter apologizes, turning back to send out another strand of webbing.
"I... I know Peter... its just..." She trails off over the rushing wind.
"I know. I'll stop him Barb, I promise." He says in a deadly serious tone. 'Morlun's gonna pay for this.'
"SPIDER-MAN! OVER HERE!" A voice yells to him. Turning his gaze he sees Huntress waving her arms at him from the edge of a nearby roof. Spidey changes direction and swings into a high arc. Blowing up past the roof his ally is on, he frees the line, cradles Barbara in both hands, and finally lands with a dulled thud on the snowy roof.
"Barbara are you okay?" Huntress and Spider-Man run up to each other. Helena frantically looks her friend over.
"I'm okay Huntress. Dirty and gonna be coughing up smoke for a few days, but fine. Thankfully Spider got me out quick." Gordon does her best to reassure her friend. Now that he has a moment Peter looks Barbara over. She's covered in dirt and soot, a few noticeable scrapes, and a small cut on her left cheek, but nothing visibly serious.
"How's Wanda?" The Wall Crawler interrupts Helena's examination, and looks over the roof for his fellow Avenger. He doesn't see her, but he doesn't see Dinah either.
"She's inside with Canary. She's been out cold since we got her." Helena looks up from Barb and glares at Peter. 'She's not happy.'
"Glad to hear it. I'm sorry to cut this..."
"How could you saddle us with your girlfriend and tell us to leave, knowing Barbara was still in danger! We could've helped you get her out!" Helena said pissed and stabbed her pointer finger at his face.
"Listen..."
"No! You listen! We can take care of ourselves, we're doing the same job you are. You can't just cut us out like that! Especially when our friend is in danger." Vie cut him off again, her temper flaring dangerously.
"We don't have..."
"Look what happened to the tower! She could've died in that while you were having your damn bar brawl..."
"HUNTRESS! We don't. Have. Time! Morlun is as strong or stronger than me and nearly as fast. Burying him under a few floors of building wont stop him for long. He wants me dead, and he can somehow track me. YOU need to keep Barb and Wanda safe and stay out of the way. YOU CAN'T HANDLE HIM!" Spider-Man bellows back at Huntress, his lenses narrowing angrily.
Helena's eyes go wide, caught off guard by his sudden outburst. She even takes a step back from him, stunned by the anger he projects. Spidey takes a deep breath, to calm himself down.
"This guy literally hunted me for days once. And every time I could catch my breath or escaped, he'd put innocents in danger to bring me back out. He'd only use you guys against me. I can't put you in that kind of danger." Peter explains to them much more calmly.
"He's right Helena. From what I saw of their fight, this guy is incredibly dangerous. He's way out our weight class. Without a plan or preparation we won't be able to stop him ourselves. So please listen to Peter." Barbara says trying to diffuse the situation. Vie clenches her fists, but relaxes a moment later.
"Alright fine... but if he's that strong we need to call in backup." Helena says calmer, though still simmering.
"Agreed. Get a hold of the League, and send in some heavy hitters. Even with my recent power up I'm barely keeping a step ahead of him, and he was a monster back when a ten ton punch was my norm. If he's been killing and feeding off other Spider-Men like he says, he must be getting stronger with each one." Both Barb and Vie stare at him in shock.
"There's more of you!?" Vie exclaims. Peter closes his eyes behind his mask, which follows suit.
"Vie, focus. We need to stop this guy first before you lose your head over the prospect of many handsome devils such as myself. I'll bring the fight to the wharf south of here, that's where you send the backup." Spidey looked down to Oracle in his arms.
"I gotta go. You sure you're okay?" He asked the red head.
Barbara Gordon looks back to the destruction that was her headquarters, then back to his blank white lenses. "Just beat the shit out of him for me. Nobody breaks my stuff and gets away with it."
Peter smiles behind the mask, and nods to her. "You got it. One Broadway tragedy coming up." He chuckles back, and Barb smiles. Spider-Man helps Oracle get into a side shoulder carry with Huntress, then quickly steps away from them.
"Good luck Spider." Barbara says.
"Kick that monster's ass." Helena nods to him. He salutes to them and turns to sprint to the edge of the roof. He leaps off and starts web swinging.
'One day. One frikkin day! Is that too much to ask!? Now I've got one of the worst guy's I've ever faced trailing me to this dimension. Venom was never this damned determined, and he's the definition of psycho stalker. Worse, if what he's saying is true, then he's hunting down other Spider-Men and Women from other realities. And he gets stronger from each he kills."
'If that's the case he has some sort of way to travel through the multiverse. Judging by his healthy not-a-corpse complexion he has some way to come back from the dead too. So killing him again would probably just be slowing him down. Dammit! Universe why do you hate me?'
'Let's see, pros. This time he seems to be coming at me head on, and we seem to be on relatively even terms strength wise. It looked like he was surprised when he got here too. So maybe dimensional travel is new, and I'm probably a special case. He's weak to radiation, I can use... crap the nearest source I can think of is back at STAR Labs... all the way on the other side of Gotham. Damn. Hmmm... maybe there's a way to lock him out of this dimension... Wanda. Yeah she could probably do that.'
'Won't matter if he drains my life essence before she regains consciousness though. Every time he gets a hold of me he drains me some, and he gets back what I loose. Gotta keep this fight at a distance or keep running till reinforcements show. Though neither have proven very effective in the past. I need to keep the fight somewhere away from people, or he'll just put them in harms way to get to me. Crap... think Parker.'
Spider-Man back flips out of a swing, and lands on a roof overlooking the wharf warehouses. Luckily the waterside isn't far from the clock tower. Since it's the weekend the place should be relatively empty.
"Don't know how much time I have till vampire Don Giovanni gets here, but let's see what we can do." Peter says to himself as he looks out over the buildings. 'Gotta buy some time till the heavy hitters get here. God I hope Wanda is okay.'
Fifteen Minutes Earlier
"I've killed you twice, how are you even here?" Spider-Man pauses, thinking back on everything he knew about both worlds he's lived in. Next to him Scarlet Witch directs a shocked gaze to him, but quickly turns back to the threat at hand. 'I imagine me killing anyone shocks her.'
Morlun looked inquisitive for a moment as he rubs his chin, seemingly as if he has all the time in the world. A grotesque smile spread over his chiseled aristocratic face. "Hmmm you must be of a parallel time line version to that particular Totem. How else would you have accomplished my defeat, and twice no less. Hmm yes, that would make sense." The refined man thought out loud, obviously in no hurry.
"Parallel time line version?" Wanda asks quietly, glancing at Peter. Spidey just shrugs, not really in the mood to figure out what the psycho powerhouse meant.
"I'm guessing you're here to try and pick up where you left off huh? Hunt me down and eat me for some stupid mystical reason? Did a parallel me wedgie you in high school or something? Cause following me to a whole 'nother dimension is pretty stalkerish." Peter riffs, doing his thing even while his Spider-Sense continually warns him of the immediate danger. Wanda's hands alight in pink energy as she readies to unleash on the newcomer.
"As inane as most of your counterparts I see. This peculiar world has obviously done nothing to change that about you." Morlun waves off the quip apathetically, when suddenly a right strait punch digs into his chest. The large man falls back several steps. He's caught off guard by the surprise attack, but looks mostly unperturbed. Spider-Man pulls his fist back, and sways to the left quickly.
Morlun's left hand goes to his chest, and touches the impact point. "Hmm..." The Inheritor muses, looking up in time to see a pink energy bolt launched at him. With inhuman speed the Inheritor side steps back, letting the magic attack fly past harmlessly.
Witch's eyes widen in surprise, and the Wall Crawler's lenses narrow. Spidey launches a web line from his left wrist at Morlun's exposed right arm. He sticks the shot, but before he can do anything Morlun grabs the web with his left hand and yanks Spider-Man toward him.
"Taking the initiative, I respect that." Morlun says easily, his smile growing. The few feet between them was short lived as Peter is pulled to the vampire. Morlun's right hand strikes out and wraps around Spider-Man's neck.
"GAK!" Spidey chokes out in surprise, and immediately feels his energy being sapped. Morlun smirks triumphantly.
"But ultimately fuGAH!" Double Hex Bolts explode in his face, making him drop his prey, and grasp his head. He stumbles back, head smoking and roaring in pain. Spider-Man falls into a crouch.
"Spider-Man are you okay?" Wanda swings her arms in a circle in front of her, energies gathering and streaming from her hands.
"Hold that thought!" Peter calls out and charges forward, ignoring his throbbing neck. Leaping right in front of Morlun, Spider-Man chambers both arms. The vigilante unleashes a storm of punches upon the vampire, his fists a blur of raw speed. 'Feels like I'm punching the Hulk!' Peter cringes behind his mask, each blow vibrating his bones.
Morlun, disoriented by the burning magic, and volley of punches is forced back toward to edge of the roof. He swings a large blind fist down at Spider-Man, only for the Arachnid to duck under it. Aiming both wrists at Morlun's left leg the Wall Crawler attaches two webs to his enemy's leg, and pulls.
The Inheritor roars as he lands on his back against the roof. Wanting to put some distance between them, Spidey yanks back the lines. His attempt at tossing Morlun is suddenly halted after a foot, as the lines pull taut. Morlun dug his fingers into the roof stopping him, and throws out a booted foot.
SPIDER-SENSE!
The boot sinks into Spider-Man's gut, launching him to the other side of the roof. His back slams against one of the ornate steeple pillars, and he falls to all fours. Letting out a gasp of pain, he looks up quick to see Wanda firing bolts at the running vampire. Unfortunately they were all missing.
"Wanda!" Peter yells, pushing himself up he jumps high in the air toward them.
Scarlet Witch's magically charged hands fly above her head, then immediately down toward the roof in between her and the Inheritor. The roof pulses pink for a split second, and two pillars of stone morph into existence and punch up at the man coming at her.
With incredible speed Morlun shatters the pillars with a single punch each, flinging their shards at the heroine. She brings her arms up to buffer the debris, and doesn't see Morlun appear in front of her.
"I'm only here for the the Totem, but I know just how dangerous you can be Sorceress." Morlun brings his right arm across his chest. The daughter of Magneto only has time to look up into the man's eyes, before she is backhanded. She is knocked across the roof, landing in a rolling heap, and thudding into the short brick wall on the far side. Her body slumps motionless in the snow.
"WANDA!" Spider-Man roars in anger, as he descends on the Totem Hunter. The vampire looks up at him with a smile on his face. Sticking two web lines to the ground on either side of Morlun, Peter slingshots himself down feet first.
The large man throws his right arm up in front of him. Like a bullet Spider-Man stamps down on him. Loud creaking noises come from the roof, as the structure bends under the force of the hit. SPIDER-SENSE!
Spidey sinks into a crouch, ready to jump away and out of reach of Morlun. Unfortunately the roof gave way at that moment. Just as the Wall Crawler attempted to bounce off the villain, the man's left hand shoots out and captured his right leg. The ground gave way, and both fall into the expansive living area below, along with several chunks of the roof.
Spider-Man's senses quicken his reaction speed, and he swiftly launches a web to the nearest falling debris. Swinging it down and into the Inheritor's head. Morlun let's go of Peter's leg, and finished his fall by hitting a bank of computer terminals and screens. Parker cut the line and used his other shooter to stick a web to the far wall in front of him. He rockets to it, and sticks fast in his all fours crouch.
Shouts and yells can be heard as the others in the room run away from the immediate destruction. Spidey hurriedly glances around the room. Huntress and Black Canary, obviously startled, were standing as far away as they could from the destroyed machinery. Both were already in fighting stances.
"Mimi! Vie! Are you two alright?" Peter calls to them, not leaving his perch.
"WHAT THE ACTUAL FU..." Helena starts, but is interrupted by a sudden eruption of computer paraphernalia where Morlun fell. The Victorian dressed man stood up, clothes looking scuffed, but nothing else visibly wrong. Wires sparked around him as he turns his gaze to the Web Head.
"Who the hell is this guy?!" Dinah asks aloud, as she tightens her stance. Vie not to far away extends her Bo Staff.
"Strong and dangerous!" Spider-Man shouts, ready to jump back into a fight. SPIDER-SENSE! Morlun beats him to it by lunging inhumanly fast and far at him. Spidey jumps off the wall above his hunter, and spins around mid air. He fires both web shooters back at the wall he was just on.
"You guys need to get out of here!" Spidey shouts as he bungees back toward the vampire.
Morlun lands on the wall, sinking his fingers into. He swings back out holding on with his right hand and foot, just as the lines stick to the wall on either side of him. Spider-Man slingshots himself at the vampire again.
!SPIDER-SENSE!
Spider-Man is back-fisted off to the side. He sails all of ten feet, until he's stopped by a support pillar. The impact creates large cracks in it, and Peter rebounds off onto a table, shattering it.
Morlun kicks off the wall, soaring through the air. Suddenly his body is engulfed in Dinah's Canary Cry. He is immediately smashed into and pinned against the wall. Dinah stops the attack and Morlun drops to the floor on all fours. His left hand goes to his ear, disoriented by the sonic attack.
"Owww..." Spider-Man groans as not only does his body ache, but now his ears are ringing too. 'Super hearing sucks sometimes.' He looks up in time to see Huntress stop in front of Morlun, and swing her staff down on his back. "Don't!"
The strike bounces off the man with a thud. Huntress's face winces in pain, as the force of the hit is met with backlash. She manages to hold onto her weapon, but she obviously feels it shaken.
"What's this guy made of?" Helena asks through clenched teeth. Before any answer could be given her legs are swept out from under her by Morlun's arm. Like the trained professional she is, she rolls with the fall. Sticking out her right arm she manages catch herself and even hand spring to the side away from him. Bertinelli lands in a crouch, out of the man's reach.
"BC!" Vie shouts, and that at least gives Peter enough warning to cover his ears this time. Black Canary inhales deep, and lets loose and even more powerful Canary Cry. Once again she pins the Inheritor to the wall. The villain manages to cover his ears through the force of the attack.
The cracks around them begin to shake and open more, as the sonics continue. Spidey gets to a kneel in time to see Morlun free his right hand and sink his fingers into the wall next to him. Just as quickly he tears a three foot portion from it, and throws it at the screaming hero. Her eyes widen as she stops her attack, bringing her arms up in a futile attempt to block it.
A web line plasters itself to the back of flying debris a foot from her. Spider-Man rips the projectile back, and bats it back into it's pitcher. Morlun and the lump of wall break through the rest of the wall, and into the kitchen beyond. The grinding of metal and clattering pots and pans is heard.
"Mimi, Vie, you two need to get out of here. You can't take him! He probably shrugging that off right *SPIDER-SENSE!*" KABOOM! An torrent of flames and flaming rubble fly from the hole in the wall. Spider-Man brings his arm up to block the blinding explosion. Both women do the same, with Huntress backing away to Black Canary. Just as the flames start to fall away, the lights flicker and die out.
"We can't! Barb is still in the building!" Dinah shouts, removing her hand as the light dies away.
"I'll get her. Wanda is unconscious on the roof. I need you two to get her to safety." Spider-Man calls back, stepping between them and fire filled kitchen.
"We're not leaving without...!" Helena begins.
"You need to! I'm sorry, but you can't fight him! Get Wanda and get to safety! I promise I'll get Barb out safely, trust me. GO!" Spider-Man shouts back, interrupting her. He points to the hole in the ceiling. Both heroes turn to each other then him, and neither look like they want to budge. That was until a dark figure started stepping out of the flames.
"No time to argue. GO!" Peter yells again. He webs the wall above the hole, and launches himself at the emerging Morlun.
Wharf Warehouses / Present
Morlun lands in a kneel on top of one of the warehouses. He stands up to his full height and scans the area below. Spider-Man looks up through the door window, and spots him when he hears the thud on the roof. The wharf is eerily quite outside of the water and ice lapping at the docks and groan of cold buildings. The vampire's appearance easily breaks the natural noise.
Morlun's eyes glow red in the darkness, giving Spidey something better to watch than a silhouette amongst the night. The Inheritor's eyes land in his general direction, and the man hops off the two story warehouse with ease. He lands gracefully, silently, and right into a walk, like the drop was nothing more than a step.
"I know you are in there Totem. There is no point in hiding from me. Stop being a coward, and come meet your death face on." Morlun announces loudly, but directs it at the building in front of him.
The door swings open making the villain pause in his stride. Nothing stands there but darkness.
"Awww. Is Mr. Big Bad Spider Hunter afraid of the dark?" Spider-Man's mocking baby talk voice carries out from the door. He can see Morlun's eyes narrow from where he's at. The bad guy's fists clench slightly.
"Come into my parlor said the Spider to the Fly." Peter's tone slips into cryptic, as his voice recedes further into the building. 'Let's see if we can't learn how well that Spider-dar of yours works.'
"Pointless." Morlun sneers, and makes his way unhurriedly into the large unlit store house.
Spidey stands near the center of the rows of boxes and shipping crates, watching him wander around almost as if it was day time. 'Gotta love my new powers... err old powers made new. Night vision helps so much.'
The Inheritor's glowing eyes search amongst the dark, as Peter awaits him basically out in the open. Morlun stops for a second and his red eyes look back, forth and up, before he starts striding up toward Spider-Man with purpose.
"You think this darkness masks you?" With one more step the vampire lunges forward quickly closing the distance between the two. Only to suddenly be stopped dead in his tracks. 'Gotcha!' Peter smirks then rushes forward himself.
"What is thi..." Morlun's jaw slams shut as Spider-Man's right fist uppercuts him with a full force blow. A loud painful sounding crack echoes through the warehouse. The Inheritor's body wants to fly up, but his feet are firmly cemented to the ground by webbing. Spider-Man follows up with an incredibly fast and full power high back spin kick to the man's face. This one definitely felt like something broke upon impact.
Morlun breaks free of the webbing and the tearing sound breaks the silence. The villain get about as far as fifteen feet in the air before his body is caught up in another giant web. The webbing bounces to and fro for a second, and Peter looks up to see his handiwork.
Thick webbing covered several squares of rafters in the front of the building. Spider-Man runs forward until he is just under the hanging Morlun, and aims his wrists up. He unleashes volleys of webbing upon him. In seconds Morlun is cocooned in a shell nearly twice his size on the net.
Peter stops the flow from his internal spinners, and takes a heavy breath. 'Forgot just how much energy I expend when I use my internal webs too much. I think I'm gonna go back to the shooters.' The cocoon shakes slightly, making Spidey forget all about his fatigue and tense. 'Nooooo.'
"Stay still for just a few seconds more." He says to himself. Raising both arms up, he devil horns his fingers, and starts shooting multiple strands of webbing from each wrist. The lines latch on to the girders on either side of the web holding Morlun. The cocoon quivers more violently now. 'No no no.'
"Time to give Le Miserables my soaring review." Sticking his feet firmly to the cement floor Spider-Man limbo's back, pulling the six strands of web line taut. The girders groan as they start to bend from the force.
SPIDER-SENSE! 'Nonononononono!'
The web coffin around the Inheritor suddenly withers, shattering like dried brittle mud a half second later. Morlun descends on Spider-Man a slight glow emanating from his body. The man's hands are clasped behind his head in a double hammer blow.
"HOW IN THE..." The Wall Crawler stops himself from finishing, and un-sticks him self from the floor. He rockets up, but already a second too late. They meet in the middle with Morlun swing down his balled fists, slamming them into Spider-Man's chest. Parker feels his ribs cave in with the blow, a few cracking and at least one broken in the process. He coughs out blood and most the air in his lungs before he even hits the ground.
Spider-Man plunges back to the pavement, cracking the foundation for about ten feet around him on impact. His white lenses widen to cover almost half his mask. Morlun lands near his feet, and rolls his large shoulders.
"Thank you for the appetizer Totem. Though I suspect you knew not that organic webbing holds your essence in it. It helped me heal my jaw nicely." Morlun gloated as he rotated his bottom jaw, testing it.
Spider-Man groans and stretches out his left arm, aiming it at the rafters. He shoots a line to one and yanks himself up, attempting to reach the dark recesses of the roof. He got about three feet off the ground before his Spider-Sense screams loudly at him.
The vampire drives his right fist into Spidey's stomach, once again making him cough up some blood into his mask. Parker flies backwards further into the dark warehouse. Before he can make contact with the ground Morlun's fist digs into his head. His skull smacks the ground, as he's still aerial. His mask tears along the side, exposing part of his face before it ricochets off floor. The Inheritor kicks him back up into the air, and grabs his face in the palm of his right hand.
Morlun sticks a foot out stopping their travel, before spinning them back around. Peter's body is flung around and his head breaks through some crates courtesy of Morlun. All this happens in a few seconds, and is followed up when the monster violently pitches Spider-Man back the way they just came.
This time Spider-Man isn't pummeled as he flies. He doesn't even hit the ground before he explodes through the front of the warehouse door. The door manages to break his flight enough, and he bounces off the ground several times. The final bounce is met by an SUV, which Spidey dents the side thoroughly, and finally flops onto the ground.
"Ooowww... My pain is complaining that it hurts." Spider-Man whimpers weakly, as he rolls to his chest, and starts to push off the cold ground.
"Spider-Man? Oh my god what happened!" A man's voice says, after the distinct squealing of a warped car door opening. This is followed by another car door opening quickly on the other side. The next thing he knows a someone is trying to help him up. 'No... not now!'
Shakily Peter raises his head, feeling the familiar surge of adrenaline that comes with fear for another's life. The man helping Peter is wearing a GCPD jacket, and the second person to come into view, a woman, is as well.
"Spidey, you alright? What's going..." The male officer starts. Peter recognizes him as Officer Dave. A man he's met several times of the last year.
"Geh... You need to leave now. Get out of here!" Spider-Man wheezed out, when the cop finally got him to his feet.
"What's going on?" The woman officer Spidey knows as Georgia asks, shining her flashlight toward the warehouse. The busted apart door and bent frame is illuminated. "Shit."
"We can't just leave you here." The man holding Peter up says, but the vigilante quickly dislodges himself from him. He stumbles a step away and looks hard at the cops.
"He's too dangerous! Please I can't fight him and protect you...!" SPIDER-SENSE! Spidey whips his body to face the warehouse, just as a twenty foot shipping container busts it's way out above the door. Both police officers go wide eyed, and start to brace themselves.
The container is moving too fast for them to even have time to get out of the way. Spider-Man jumps in front of them, right in it's path. He stretches out his arms and steels himself. With a grunt he catches the large metal box, pain flaring up as it pushes against his ribs. Shouting in defiance Peter manages to only skid back a few feet by digging into the pavement. This is barely two feet from the cops and their damaged car.
"MOVE NOW!" The hero yells to the frightened cops. Thankfully they must have been trained for superhuman situations or knew not to push it, and quickly the two ran for shelter in a nearby storehouse.
Wincing Spider-Man let his arms drop. The container's clang echoed throughout the wharf.
SPIDER-SENSE!
His sixth sense let him know danger was coming from the front, just before the cargo container rams into him. Spidey is driven back into the damaged cop car, and pinned in between the two. Tires squealed as the car skids sideways about fifteen feet from the force.
The large box dislodges from the vehicle two feet from where the car finally stops. Spider-Man slides out of the massive indent in the side of the SUV, and slumps to his knees, barley catching himself on the container's door. He's hacking up blood, and his vision is blurry, as he's desperately trying to catch his breath.
'So. Much. Pain. Why am I... still conscious... I don't understand.' Peter mentally groans, as nearly every pain receptor in his body is firing off. SPIDER-SENSE! The thrumming breaks through his weary mind. The vigilante's head whips up, and through his dizziness he sees Morlun standing above him. 'Oh yeah... that's why.'
"You've given me a challenge no single Spider has in quite some time. The last totem I consumed lasted about as long only with the aid of his allies, Firestar and Iceman. They didn't need to die, but their stubbornness forced my hand. You, on the other hand..." 'Angelica and Bobby? You god dammed monster!' Morlun puts his left hand on the container, and easily slides it back a few feet, ridding Peter of his brace. Spider-Man falls forward catching himself on the ground with his right forearm, gritting his teeth in anger. His Spider-Sense continues to rise in intensity.
The vampire steps to the Wall-Crawler's right side, and bends down. His hand ready to wrap around the back of his neck. Spidey rolls onto his back suddenly releasing a glob from both wrists, plastering Morlun's eyes and mouth with webbing. As the villain is reeling back, Spider-Man kicks forward onto his feet.
"Argh." Peter grimaces, but pushes past the pain. And grabs the totaled cop car in front of him quickly. Sinking his fingers into the frame he spins around with it in hand. The back of the car crashes into Morlun, and he's batted away into the the side of the cargo container behind them. The delightful sound of crunching metal comes to Spider-Man's ears.
The small victory is short lived as the Inheritor rips off the webbing, and absorbs it while glaring at the Totem. "Sorry bout the car GCPD." Spidey says, and pulls it above his head before throwing it at Morlun.
SPIDER-SENSE!
'Crap.' Morlun diverts the nearly three ton car path's with a well place backhand. The twisted metal that used to be a vehicle, smashes into a building not far away. Spider-Man just manages to bring his left arm for cover, as grinding metal punctures the fuel line. Both combatants are in the vicinity of the explosion. Luckily Peter's further away, and had his guard up to block the blinding light.
Unluckily Morlun is barely dazed himself. With some effort, and warning from his ringing sixth sense, Spider-Man back flips himself into the air just before Morlun's fist meets him. Landing on the ground in an all four crouch some fifteen feet away, he sees the Inheritor pulling his fist from the street.
Several chunks of car and debris rain down on them, and a fire starts in the warehouse the car flew into. "C'mon Morls, can't we talk about this? I mean you know this'll only end badly for you, right? I've killed you twice, and trapped three of your siblings in magic void*. And I was much less of a Spider back then."
(*Story Note: I'm not entirely sure if it's canon or not, but there is a Spider-Man novel by Jim Butcher called Spider-Man: The Darkest Hours. In it Inheritor siblings, a sister and two brothers, come to take revenge against Spidey for Morlun's death. This story came well before the events of Spider-Verse, and should take place before The Other event too. I'm probably presuming a lot, but I feel this story may have been an inspiration for Spider-Verse itself.)
"My family has been wondering what happened to them. Once I take care of your 616 counterpart I'll free them of their imprisonment, and we can complete the Great Hunt." Morlun dusts off his petticoat as he strides toward Spider-Man.
"There's even more of you lunatics?!" Spidey gasps loudly, as he stands up and starts forward himself.
"Aye, there are. However..." Morlun's next step turns into a run, and Spider-Man matches him. "... you are mine alone to kill." The two meet in the middle, and throw a right punch at each other. Their fists collide and a small shock wave of force resounds from them scattering snow away from them.
Peter's arm shakes from the impact, but he pushes past it. Spider-Sense! Spidey leans his torso back avoiding a wild left hook. Spider-Sense! He rolls with his lean, into a back flip avoiding another downward right punch which cracks the ground. Spider-Sense! Landing in a crouch he stick two lines to either side of Morlun, and pulls himself forward. Sliding between and under the Inheritor's legs as he attempts to tackle him.
Spider-Sense! Peter hand springs backward over Morlun, his chest narrowly avoiding a spinning right back fist. As he's soaring over the villain Spidey sticks a line to each of the guy's shoulders. Once he lands Spider-Man pulls the lines hard, throwing the vampire backward onto the ground with a loud thud. The pavement webs slightly at the impact.
With Morlun down Spidey jumps up high, and launches a web line from both wrists onto either side of the downed man. He slingshots himself down at the Inheritor, kicking down with both feet. He drives both heels into Morlun's chest, causing the large man to cry out in pain and the pavement to splinter further.
SPIDER-SENSE!
Spider-Man is quick to leap off Morlun, but his left leg is caught before he can get far. He's thrown sideways, and slammed into the ground on his left shoulder. Peter's ribs erupt in agony, and his shoulder dislocates. SPIDER-SENSE! "GAH!" Morlun quickly absorbs a portion of Spidey's life essence, rendering him momentarily paralyzed by pain and fatigue.
Getting to his feet the Inheritor pulls the vigilante off the ground, and holds him upside down by the ankle. "This will not be quick for you anymore Spider. I will have my satisfaction, and savor your life force slowly. With your power I will easily kill many more Totems, and finally take my revenge on the 616 Totem."
"Yah... you gotta beat me first Black Adler, and... and I've got you on the ropes. Heh heh." Spider-Man chides wearily, and upside down smile reflecting in Morlun's eyes.
"A fool to the last." Morlun huffs, and swings his prey to his side before throwing him into the air back toward the city.
SPIDER-SENSE!
Spidey reaches across his chest with his right arm ready to fire a web line to a building on his left., when he collides into the metal railing of a fire escape. He ricochets off it, and into a spin. "OW! C'mon c'mon!" Once he's facing the sky again, he manages to launch a line to a lamp post.
!SPIDER-SENSE!
Spidey's lenses fly open as he turns his head just in time to see Morlun falling down upon him laughing. Before he can respond the vampire wraps his arms around him, trapping his arms in the grapple. Once again Peter's ribs flare and his dislocated arm joins in. "AHHHH!" He shouts as they descend on the street below.
Morlun lands on both feet easily from a story up, indentations in the street where he stops. Spider-Man growls and squirms against his captor, trying to find some sort of wiggle room to free himself. Each movement hurt him, but he didn't care. 'Shit shit shit shit!' SPIDER-SENSE! SPIDER-SENSE! SPIDER-SENSE!
"I hope you've made peace with this Totem." Morlun said with a gruesome smile. His mouth opened revealing fangs.
"With what, that I'm kicking your ass two ways from Sunday? I thought that was evident enough from the way you were calling for your mommy?" Spider-Man chuckled painfully under the crushing hug.
Morlun's mouth instantly closes, his eye taking on a deadly venomous red glow. A look that said the Web-Head struck a very serious nerve. A growl emanates from deep inside the vampire, before his head falls down, and his teeth rip into Peter's neck.
"AHHHHHHHHH!" Spider-Man screams into the evening sky. His fists clench, fingers digging so hard into his gloves he was sure he might draw blood. But that was the last worry he had. 'No! No! NONONONONONONO! Not like this! I can't let it end like this! I WONT LET HIM WIN!'
"DAMMIT!" Spidey shouts, stuck in the car compressor bear hug that the Inheritor has him in. Morlun's body glows with power as he absorbs Spider-Man's life from him. The ripped portion of Peter's mask tears further as the wind whips up around them.
Out of nowhere Peter feels a well semi-familiar surge of power boil forth, his eyes burn, and his vision turns red. It's the same well of anger and power when he took down Slade, and Morlun once before that. His Inner Spider clawing its way to the surface. Refusing to let its host perish without a fight.
The next thing he knows Spider-Man's head drives forward, and his own fangs tear into the vampire's neck. His draining life is suddenly supplemented with an infusion of power coming from the Inheritor. Morlun's head reels back, and he lets out a surprised howl of pain. His arms loosening their hold on the hero.
Taking the opportunity and using the new strength gained, Spider-Man manages to push himself free, finding his Healing factor had been kicked into overdrive. He plants his feet on the Gothicly dressed man and back flips off him, sending his right heel into Morlun's chin. The Inheritor staggers back as Spidey hits the ground in a weary crouch a few feet away.
"Im... impossible. You can't be the Other!" Morlun growls, holding a hand to his neck.
SPIDER-SENSE!
The Web-Head's hair stands on end as the static in the air becomes visible. His rage filled red eyes follow the trails of energy leading to an electrically charged incandescent being floating high in the air behind Morlun. Eye and lens widen in shock he stares up at the brilliantly shining Livewire.
"EAT THIS, YOU OPERA REJECT!" Leslie shouts, tearing Morlun's attention from the weakened Wall-Crawler, and his own bleeding neck. Streams of electricity strike her from every building, sign, and power line transformer.
Not even a second later she throws her raised hands down and unleashes everything she had built up in one titanic bolt of lightning. Spider-Man manages to close his eyes, and turn his head as the blast engulfs it's target and detonates.
CRACKOOOM!
The pavement shatteres and cracks for tens of feet around the impact point. Car alarms blare, lights flicker dimly just regaining power, and buildings nearby shake. Tiny bits of street strike Spider-Man as they escape the blast. In seconds the devastation is over, and Peter opens his eyes slowly.
Snow had been vaporized for nearly a block around the new half street wide crater. A rain of dust-like pavement replaces the snow in the sky. And in the middle of it all a charred body on it's knees, head hung down and smoke rolling off it in small clouds. 'Damn. Woohoo, but damn.'
Spider-Man stands in awe at the scene, just staring at the man who had him dead to rights not a minute ago. Peter's red eyes dim until his normal chocolate orbs returned. His Spider-Sense dies away as well, giving him some bit of relief. The ringing in his ears however is taking a bit longer to go.
A hand rests on his shoulder, and the Web Head nearly jumps out of his skin, yelping loudly. He hops to the side, spinning mid-air, and lands about five feet away in a fighting stance. Livewire blinks at him surprised, her hand held out where his shoulder just was.
Her lips move, but all Spidey can hear is muffled noise amongst a constant tone. "WHAT?!" Spider-Man shouts out, not realizing his voice is so loud.
Leslie closes her eyes, shakes her head and sighs. Resting her left hand on her costumed hip, she makes a circular motion with her right fingers, reminiscent to turning down the volume on a stereo. Spider-Man squints at the action, taking a moment to realize what it represented, then nods his head. "SORRY, MY EARS ARE RINGING."
Leslie rolls her eyes, then points at the crispy vampire in the crater. The tone in his ears finally starts to lower in decibel, as he shifts his gaze to ground zero. Morlun sits on the ground motionless, and very 'Hopefully.' likely dead. Peter grit his teeth silently, not enjoying the idea that he was happy to see someone dead. Even if that person was seconds away from killing him for some sort of mystical sport.
Hell he took less enjoyment from hunting down and taking revenge on Sergei's family. And he put the true fear of spiders into those hunters.
"You are a lifesaver Sparkles, you have no idea." Spidey grins, earning a hard stare from Livewire.
He starts to relax some of his body, but instantly regrets it. His wounds, and most likely broken bones, haven't fully healed yet. The release of tension moved way too many tightened and securing muscles. "Owwwww..." He groans weakly, bringing his arms over his chest.
"Whoa you okay their dude?" The glare she was giving him washed away with the concern, as Leslie quick walks toward him. He hunches over willing his body to stop reminding him that for the last half hour he was being thrown around like a potato sack on inventory day.
"I think I'm gonna submit for more vacation days... heh heh... owww. It hurts to laugh." Spider-Man jokes as best as he can, pain be damned.
"That a boy. Just walk it off." Leslie pats his back sympathetically, which sends a jolt of hurt through him when she pats a particularly sore spot.
"Owwowowow."
"Oo... Sorry, guy. My bad. Soooo..." Livewire straitens up and scratches her jaw with a finger, looking a bit guilty. "... is it okay that the tall dark Stroker guy is now a briquet? I mean I'm supposed to be a light side now, and a corpse would probably reflect badly on my quarterly review."
"It will probably shock you to know this... heh... oww. But personally I'm glad he's *!SPIDER SENSE!*" Spider-Man's whole body immediately coils tightly once again, and he quickly pushes Livewire away from him. Suddenly the burnt body of Morlun fills his vision. The vampire's glowing rage fueled red eyes lock onto Spider-Man's.
Before he can react the Inheritor gut punches Spidey. A punch that completely winds the hero. As the air escapes through his mouth, Morlun grabs the back of Spider-Man's head and rams it into the street, creating a hole in the road. A white blinding light fills Peter's vision.
"Be sure to actually kill me before you celebrate Totem." Morlun grinds the Wall Crawler's face further into the ground for a second.
"Back off the bug, creep." Livewire shouts. 'Ar... arachnid.' Morlun's hand frees Spider-Man's head, and there is a rush of several different sounds in succession. First is the crackling of bolts of lightning, then the grinding of metal, followed by the rush of water, and the garbled static scream of Livewire. Putting his hands on either side of the him, Spider-Man quickly pulls himself from the street. His vision is slightly blurry, but he can see what happened very clearly.
Livewire is being bombarded by the steady stream of a fire hydrant, and short circuiting on the opposite side of the road.
"LivewiMMPH" A foot stomps on his back smashing him once again into the street, cutting off his shout. A hand grasps the back of the hero's neck while the foot keeps him pinned, and immediately he feels his energy being taken.
"This game is over, OtheRK!" The drain stops as quickly as it starts, as Morlun's grip ceases on Peter's neck. Suddenly the vampire's weight is taken off Spidey, and the sound of something hitting a wall behind is heard.
"Unlike my friend I am under no such moral restriction." A very familiar but distant voice speaks up. Spider-Man pulls himself free of the road again, and as quick as possible gets to his feet. The first thing he sees is foot wide tree root sticking from the ground at an angle. Following the root Spider-Man finds Morlun impaled through the chest, and pinned to the building behind him. Blood profusely spills from the large wound, as Morlun grabs the root. In one swift motion he breaks the tree root, and falls to the sidewalk with a chunk of it still lodged in his torso.
The vampire coughs up some blood as he glares up at the new intruder. Spidey follows suit seeing Poison Ivy standing menacingly on the roof opposite them, her left arm outstretched in front of her. Even from the distance Peter can see her black and gold eyes are as cold as the winter night around them. She's in her black and green attire from the Klarion incident.
"Ivy..." Spidey says weakly, smiling up at his savior.
"And I just plain hate you for messin' with my Spider." Another familiar female voice calls out as she makes her appearance next to Ivy. Harley Quinn's puts her foot on the edge of the roof, staring down at the multi-verse hopping baddie. She's in her costume too, minus the face paint. Her expression is contorted into a scowl that sends a shiver down the Wall-Crawler's spine. She easily lifts a bazooka up and takes aim at Morlun below.
Morlun's eyes widen in realization. Just as he starts to dodge a glob of webbing sticks the man fast to the concrete, tripping him up. Spider-Man's right arm is outstretched toward him. A grim grin on Peter's face.
Morlun's whips his head back around to Spidey with a vicious snarl, eyes burning red.
"And that's three." Spider-Man says with a surprising amount of satisfaction in his tone. The ignition of the rocket sounds from above them.
"THIS ISN'T OV...!"
KABOOM!
The hero turns his head at the last second to prevent being blinded by the explosion. Morlun's words die out amongst the blast. Spidey gets to his feet slowly, watching the burning destruction in front of him. Clenching his jaw tightly Peter grabs his left arm with his right hand, and in one painful pop relocates the shoulder joint. Even with the Healing Factor boost, he wants to be ready just in case Morlun gets back up.
The fire and smoke begins to die away after a few tense moments. The mutilated corpse of the the Inheritor is revealed. After watching like a hawk for a bit longer, his sixth sense finally quiets.
"And stay gone this time."
He wavers a bit letting out a sigh of relief, a sigh that reminds him his ribs are still incredibly sore. 'Guess my own little vampire trick was just a quick pick me up. Ribs still cracked. Damn I can still taste his blood in my mouth, BLEH!' Using the back of his torn up right glove he wipes the blood from his exposed mouth and chin, and looks at the stain for a moment before immediately spitting out as much as he can.Suddenly he feels his legs start to give out, and falls back onto his haunches. Spidey manages to sit upright by wrapping his arms around his knees.
After a few seconds to process and keep vigilant he remembers who just helped him.
"You have no idea how happy I a *Spider-Sense*..." Peter says loudly turning his head toward the girls, before he's tackle hugged from the side. Harley squeezes him tight to her, burying her head into his chest. His chest screams in protest, as does his still sore left arm, but he doesn't dare stop her.
"ONE DAY! YAH ARE BACK ONE DAY AN' ALMOST FRIKKIN DIE ALREADY! What did I say!?" Quinn screams into his chest, hugging him tighter if it was possible.
"That you would kill me if I did." He tried to joke back, but winced when she pounded her fist against his chest.
"I may just have to kill you myself for this. You are lucky we decided to tag along with Livewire when she got the call." Pam says as she steps out of the alley on the other side of the street. 'I have a feeling luck had nothing to do with it.' Peter smiles to himself at the thought.
With a few flicks of her hands a vine grows and wraps around the hydrant pouring water on Livewire, crushing it shut. The plant mistress steps over to the unconscious electric hero, and checks her vitals.
"Just let me heal a bit and you two can run me through the ringer all you want. Trust me I'll be happy to let you after the night I've had." He wheezes out, managing to sit up with Harley wrapped around him. "Is Sparkles gonna be okay?"
"Yes. She'll be out for a while, but with some rest..." A vroosh above them cuts Ivy off. All three look up to see the the Batwing slowing to a hover in between the buildings. Two panels open on the base of the plane, and two figures drop out of it.
Batman and Robin repel down on ropes landing on the street a few seconds later. Both heroes stand from the crouches and both look loaded for bear. Their suits are heavily reinforced with armor and their usual Utility Belts were replaced with larger versions.
"What happened? Ivy, Harley, what are you two doing here?" Batman asks as he approaches the three while surveying the scene.
Robin whistles as he sees at all the collateral damage and the body in the crater. "Looks like we missed one heck of a party."
"Fashionably late as always." Ivy comments with disdain, as she throws Livewire's arm around her shoulders and helps the unconscious woman up.
"They came with Livewire, and saved my ass thank you very much." Spider-Man got to his feet with his arm around Harley's shoulders for support.
"Some cape yah are B-Man. The bad guys had to save the day cause yer too busy getting dolled up." Harleen jokes with no small amount of spite in her tone. 'Love this girl.' Batman just eyed the two villainesses neutrally, before resting his gaze on Spider-Man.
"What about this Morlun?" Batman asked, ignoring the women.
"Dead. Hopefully..." Spidey starts.
"Uhhh guys. Something is happening." The Boy Wonder speaks up taking a step back from the crater with Morlun's body in it. Only the corpse is turning into dust, and flying away in the breeze.
"I take it that isn't normal." Batman states as they all watch the corpse turn into ash and float away on the breeze.
"Well he was a vampire of sorts." Spidey comments. 'I'm sure that's nothing... right?' Peter reluctantly separates himself from Harleen, and hobbles slightly up next to Batman. They watch the last of Morlun burn away. "First time I've seen it happen. Grant it the last few times I killed this guy there wasn't much in the way of a corpse left to observe."
Batman and the rest look at Spider-Man with varying degrees of astonishment.
"Oracle mentioned that you had killed him before." Batman asked, eying his fellow hero with from the side.
"Not because I wanted too, trust me. It was him or me or a loved one. And he wasn't leaving me with any other option." Spidey added in his defense. "How are the Birds doing, and any word on Wanda yet?"
"Despite their headquarters being destroyed in your fight, they are fine. And your friend is still unconscious." Batman relayed, with a small amount of spite in his voice. Spider-Man's damaged remaining lens raised with his brow. Batman tapped the side of his cowl. "Oracle the fight is over. Spider-Man, Livewire, Ivy, and Harley neutralized the threat."
"I hope. Morlun said something about a hunt for Spider Totems has started. And from what I gathered he'd just recently attacked and killed several Spider-Men before getting to me." Spider-Man said, looking worriedly at the now empty crater. "Just to be sure I want to get Wanda up, and see if she can ban him from this dimension. The last thing we need is him..."
!SPIDER-SENSE!
'OH YOU HAVE GOT TO BE SHITTING ME!'
A golden flash illuminates the street and the group, as a portal opens in front of them. Morlun steps down out of it onto the road, a smile on his sparkling clean face. Robin immediately backtracks to Batman's side with a surprised "Whoa", and gets into a fighting stance his staff extended. Spider-Man, Batman, and Harley Quinn all slip into stances as well. Poison Ivy moves herself and Livewire back into the alley as inconspicuously as possible.
"I am not sure how you retained the Other, but you are a much more valuable hunt now." Morlun said simply, a toothy grin spreading over his face. "And I alone shall have the honor of bringing your head to my Father." He dashes toward Spider-Man and Batman, whom dodge separate ways. Harley behind them follows Spider-Man's path, with Robin doing the same with Batman.
"Hey my Other is staying right where I like it, with me. So back off you creep!" Spider-Man says as he jumps and lands on the building wall ten feet up, before launching several Impact Web Balls at the Inheritor. Morlun stops right where the heroes just were, and raises his right arm up, letting it get covered in the globs of webbing.
"Take the hint guy, he's not into yeh! He's fond of the female persuasion." Harley adds running under where Spidey is perched. She reaches into her suit and pulls out something.
"No offense Bats, but where's the rest of the back up? You know like Superman or Wonder Woman." Spider-Man shouts to Batman hurriedly. Batman reaches into his utility belt as he skids to a halt after strafing the newly revived villain.
"You're looking at them... for the moment at least." Batman calls back, and lets several Batarangs fly toward the vampire. At the same time Harley throws a handful of marble sized balls at Morlun too.
The Batarangs and pellets hit Morlun at the same time all detonating with miniature explosions on impact.
"Having allies fighting with you only makes this easier Totem." The villain says before lunging through the smoke towards Batman, right fist cocked back. The webbing covering that arm dissolving away.
"Shit!" Spidey curses loudly, sticking both lines to Morlun's right arm. He pulls back on the throwing fist, halting it and it's owner. Batman and Robin both jump back, making some distance. Morlun, in a show of force, wrenches his arm forward, yanking Peter from his place on the building.
Spider-Man cuts his line and flies through the air toward the vampire, swinging his lower body forward so he's feet first. Morlun spins around to punch the wounded hero, when a fist digs itself into his lower back. Batman's armored fist seems to do nothing, and the Inheritor doesn't seem to care about it either. That is until his body is lit up by a powerful electrical shock.
Morlun yelps in surprise for a second, before the fist is pulled away as Batman dives to the right. That second was all Spider-Man needed to dropkick on the villain in the face. Morlun plows backwards into a brick wall, barreling through it like paper.
"YATZEE! Nice hit Spider!" Harley shouts in glee running up to him, as Spider-Man back flips back onto his feet.
"Don't celebrate just yet, we've been throwing each other through walls all night. He'll be back up quick." Spidey informs them, holding a hand to his chest feeling a familiar returning throb there.
"Spider-Man what are we looking at strength wise?" Batman asks as he and Robin regroup a bit away.
"Nearly as fast as me, but definitely as strong. Keep your distance." Peter tells them just before his sixth sense goes off. The windows on the forth story of the building shatter as Morlun busts through them. His fists are pulled back above his head, as he falls to the ground rapidly.
"Move people!" The Web-Slinger shouts as he turns to Harley, and quickly pulls her into a right side hug. Shooting a line with his left the two of them fly off the ground just as Morlun slams both fists into the street, sending a shock wave down the block. Batman and Robin are caught in the wave and are tossed back a few feet.
Spider-Man and Harley land on the street near the Ivy, whom just emerged from the alley, and took a knee from the miniature quake.
"Ivy can you do that thing you did to Black Adam? That would be really helpful right now." Parker asks as he lets go of Quinn. Harls helps Ivy up to her feet, as Pam shakes her head.
"I can't Spider. We're in a section of the city with little in the way of my children, and very few underground. I can use the same few roots I used to pierce the monster's chest, but nothing like at Stonehenge." She relays, and holds out her hands to feel for the plants nearby.
"Use what you can, but I need you two to stay out of the fight. He'll just use you against me." Spidey says quickly as he turns and sends web line high onto a building. Morlun steps out of the crater in the street, and looks towards him. Peter jumps up and swings toward Morlun, before either of them could stop him.
"Spider wait!" Harley calls to him, but he forcibly ignores her. 'Sorry girls.' He back flips out of the mid point of the arc, soaring through the air toward the vampire as the two lock eyes. Morlun looks to the two women Spider-Man was just with.
"Oh no you don't! Your fight is with me!" Peter shouts as he nears the villain. Several small balls roll underneath Morlun from behind before he can do anything. They instantly start spewing heavy smoke which quickly devours the man. Batman charges toward the smokescreen his right fist sparking with electricity and several Batarangs in between his left fingers.
The cloud busts outwards, trails of the fog following Morlun as he runs toward the Sirens. Batman immediately throws one of the Batarangs in a wide horizontal curve at him. Spider-Man twists his body before he lands so he's facing Morlun as his feet hit the ground. A silk strand flies out of the cloud of smoke.
The Batarang tags Morlun in the right arm, and detonates, tripping him up for a second. The web line sticks to his back and when Peter feels the impact he pulls back using both arms and all his strength. The Inheritor is ripped from the ground flying backwards toward the now dissipating smoke. The rest of the black cloud scatters when Spider-Man rushes forward out of it.
Morlun digs his feet into the pavement, creating small divots as he stops himself. The Dark Knight vaults high over him as he stops, his body obscured by his cape in the front flip. Right as Batman lands, he spins his torso around to the left, letting loose another Batarang back toward the Inheritor.
Morlun throws his arms up in a cross guard and the small weapon explodes against them.
"Hey fang face heads up!" Spider-Man shouts right behind Morlun. The vampire blinding spins around throwing a right back fist at where Spider-Man should be. Peter base slides into Morlun's right ankle, taking it out from behind, and making him fall awkwardly toward the ground.
"STOP!" A red and black figure jumps over the still sliding Spider-Man. Harley's insane grin is only dwarfed by the fact she has her mallet in both hands drawn above her head. Morlun watches as she swings the weapon down aiming to smash his face into the street with it. "HAMMER TIME!" At the last second he manages to bring his left arm in front of his face.
There is a loud thud and cracking pavement. For a moment Harley Quinn is held in the air with her hammer holding up her petite frame. The next moment she's being thrown in the air with her mallet, as Morlun swings it and her off of him with his left arm.
"Whoa!" Harleen yelps in surprise finding herself about fifteen feet in the air, and her mallet flying off and crashing through a window. Spider-Man jumps up and catches her from behind mid-air. "Thanks Spidey." She smiles at him while looking over her shoulder as the two descend. "RED!"
Spidey glances back as they land, seeing Poison Ivy holding out her hands at the Inheritor and making a grasping motion. As Morlun is getting to his feet several tree roots break out of the street around Morlun and quickly start to cocoon him. "Pointless!" Morlun roars, and starts ripping apart the roots and vines savagely.
"BATMAN IT'S HERE!" Robin yells up on top of one of the damaged buildings. He's holding his right forearm up and a small screen is sticking up from it, with his other hand raised by it. In the distance, behind the group of heroes and villainesses, a roar like a jet engine revving is heard.
"Everyone out of the street!" Batman calls to the group, and launches a grappling hook to the roof of the nearest building. As he's repelling up he throws a handful of smoke bombs at Morlun. Once again Morlun is shrouded in smoke, as he fights against the creeping roots.
At the same time Spidey switches Harley to his left side holding her by the waist. He web zips them to Ivy. When he lands he opens up his other arm for her, and Pam slips into his other side. She continues to hold out a hand and summon the roots as she does this.
Spidey jumps them up to the nearest street lamp. He balances them all perfectly on top of the metal pole. The next thing Spider-Man and the girls see is a large black vehicle blow past underneath them in a blur.
The Batmobile rockets into the smoke cloud. A loud crunch and squealing tires is heard as the armored vehicle rams into Morlun, and breaks through the other side of the smokescreen with the Inheritor plastered on the front of the car. Batman's car fishtails, and then plows into the side of a brick building half a block away, vampire first.
Peter, Pam, and Harleen wince at the impact, while watching from their perch. "That's pretty brutal, even for Bats." Spider-Man muses, making sure he's got a good hold on the women on either side of him.
A sizable chunk of the wall collapses on the half way in Batmobile.
Harley lets out a whistle. "Now that's what I call a hit n' run."
"Do you think that worked?" Ivy asks seriously, watching the impact site carefully.
"Doubt it, I hit the guy with an SUV earlier, and he just shrugged it off." Spidey replies. He sees Batman land back on the street using his cape as a makeshift parachute. Carefully Batman approaches his car, with Robin watching from the roof.
SPIDER-SENSE!
"BATMAN!" Spider-Man yells, giving the Dark Knight just enough warning to dodge to the right as the Batmobile is punted out of the hole in the wall. It's flung with enough force to roll end over end, before embedding into the building across the street.
"Shit!" Spidey curses, and quickly jumps down off the light post. "Bats get out of there!" He shouts. As soon as Peter lands he lets both women go, and web lines toward his fellow Leaguer.
"BATMAN!" Robin's calls worriedly as he readies to jump into the fight to save his mentor.
"Stay put Robin! I'll get him!" The Web Slinger commands forcefully, stopping the teen hero in his tracks. 'Sorry kiddo but I can't have you being used against me too.' Spider-Man lets his line go, free falling toward Batman when a large figure plows over the caped man. Peter lands in a crouch immediately facing a terrifying sight.
Batman being held up off the ground and his throat being crushed in Morlun's left hand. The Inheritor is bloodied and battered from the fight and hit and run, but more noticeable than that pissed off. Batman tries punching the vampire's outstretched limb, but it's like a fly attacking a human. Gotham's protector tries for his utility belt, but Molun grabs his left hand and easily crushes it. The bones in Batman's hand break, sounding like brittle twigs snapping.
To his credit Batman only lets out a quick cry of pain. Spider-Man, wide eyed, charges Morlun without hesitation. Spider-Sense! He manages to duck under the back kick, but the follow-up kick to the gut with the other knocks him away a good ten feet. Spidey rolls with the fall, and quickly splays out into a crouch.
"Batman eh? I wasn't sure at first, as this is an unfamiliar world, but you certainly have the power of a Totem. This dimension will provide my family with..." Morlun says before Spider-Man breaks his monologue.
"I'm the one you want, leave him alone!" Angrily Spider-Man launches a strand of webbing at Morlun's face, which the man steps back and avoids easily.
"True... but I am injured and need a quick pick me up." Morlun's face splits into a sick smile, as he begins to feed off Batman. The Inheritor's wounds immediately begin to heal, as the Cape Crusader visibly begins to weaken in his struggle.
"DAMMIT! NO!" Spider-Man exclaims in rage, his anger fueling reserves inside of him.
"BATMAN!" Robins yells as he hops off the roof. Spider-Man grits his teeth and rushes forward, pushing himself to his limit to reach the Inheritor.
Just then several large roots break from the ground and quickly encase Batman. Morlun is forced to release his hold on the hero, when sharp thorn spines began to spring out of the vines.
"Witch!" Morlun roars setting his sight on Ivy and Harley up the street. The protective vegetation shell around Batman already retreating underground to take the Dark Knight out of harms way.
The next moment the Inheritor's vision is blinded by a red and blue clad leg. Spider-Man delivers a devastating spin jumping round house kick to his face. Morlun rolls his upper body backward narrowly avoiding the hit, and back flips himself a few times. On the second flip a half dozen Birdarangs explode when they strike him from behind.
He's blown forward onto his hands and knees, his back smoking and smoldering. He looks up in time to see Spider-Man standing above him a double hammer fist careening down at his head. Morlun rolls to the side, as the vigilante's attack webs the ground and dents the street.
Spider-Sense! Just when Peter starts pulling up a twenty ton fist clocks him in the jaw. Spider-Man staggers to the side, as the punch wasn't completely solid. But when he looks back around Morlun is gone.
"Spider-Man! Ivy and Harley!" Robin shouts running toward the Web-Slinger. The man in question looks up to see the incoming teen, who just pulls the trigger on his grappling hook.
"SPIDER!" Harley yells out as gun fire is heard. Spidey whips his torso around to look behind him. Morlun is closing in on Harleen and Pam, as roots continually rip out of the ground to block him. The Inheritor easily dodges each protrusion, and even the shots coming from Harley's handgun. He jukes and weaves down the street with a viscous grin. One of the dodges right makes Robin's grappling line inadvertently miss and sink into a root.
Spider-Man springs into action, panic replacing his anger. Morlun is after the girls, because of him. He's targeting them just because their helping and getting in the man's way.
"NOOO!" Peter yells terrified, as he aims both wrists at Morlun's feet, and presses his fingers to his palms.
Even from this distance Peter can see the fear in Harley's eyes, and the scared determination in Ivy's. The seconds seem to draw into minutes, as Spider-Man's enhanced senses see everything in slow motion. Every horribly tense moment is watched as it unfolds.
The strands of webbing hurtle through the air, quickly closing in on Morlun's ankles. Morlun jumps into the air, using his momentum to hurtle the rest of the way. Spider-Man's webbing misses by inches.
Ivy throws her hands up, and a vine wall bursts from the pavement. A last attempt to block the monster. Harley takes a few more shots before the plants block her field of vision. One of the bullets tags Morlun in the chest, but it doesn't slow him whatsoever. He hits the blockade fist first and tears right through it.
Spider-Man shotguns himself forward into a long jump with all his might, following Morlun's path. A jump so strong it tears away the street where he launched from.
"HARLEY LOOKAHHHHHH!" A sickening squelch is followed by Ivy shouting in agony.
"RED!" Harley screams in horror, before a cracking sound turns it agonizing.
"MORLUN!" Peter yells as he flies into the hole in the plant wall. Time creeps as the vegetation gives way to the sight of the Inheritor and the girls. His heart skips a beat, as Morlun comes into view. The monster's arm is outstretched with his hand piercing dead center of Pam's chest.
On the ground in front of him, Harley's right forearm is smashed into the pavement under the vampire's boot. Her gun is laying a few inches from her motionless fingers. She's struggling to pull herself free. Morlun laughs holding the limp Ivy up in front of her, blood pouring off of his protruding hand. She grabbing at his arm weakly.
"YOU GOD DAMNED MONSTER!" Spider-Man roars, a monstrous overtone layering over his voice, as he descends on Morlun. The vampire spins around, Ivy sliding off his hand.
Morlun, baring his fangs with his wide smile, spins around with his bloody right arm striking forward like a knife. He stops suddenly when his arm seemingly locks up. There are visible dark green vein-like markings spreading up that arm.
Peter doesn't even feel the stingers rip out from his under forearms. The hero plows into Morlun, stabbing both stingers into the man's chest right below his collar bones. The Inheritor is thrown backwards off and past Harley Quinn, before hitting back first against street. He lets out a painful shriek.
Spider-Man growls baring his now serrated teeth, and gripping Morlun's chest as hard as he can with his hands. 'KILL YOU! KILL YOU! KILL YOU! KILL YOU! KILL YOU!" Repeats in Peter's head, wiping every other thought away with it's sheer rage. Morlun somehow pushes past the pain and kicks Spider-Man up and off him. Sending the Wall-Crawler a few feet behind him.
Spider-Man flips around impossibly fast, landing on all fours, whipping his head up to see Morlun scramble to his feet. Before the Inheritor can stand fully Spider-Man rushes him, his body low to the ground. The berserk Spider-Man instantly appears before the vampire, who tries to throw a fist at him. Spidey ducks under the weak attempt and stabs his right stinger through Morlun's right foot, and into the pavement. At this point Peter doesn't even feel the various spine-like protrusions breaking out all over his body.
Morlun throws his head back screaming once again. Which only intensifies when Spider-Man's left stinger pierces through his right knee from the side too. Angrily Morlun attempts to bring his fists down to smash the Totem. Blood splatters off the stingers as both are torn out of the leg and foot at the same time.
SPIDER-SENSE!
"Spider-Man duck!" A new voice shouts, and Spidey drops to all fours. A huge pink beam of Hex Energy streaks above the Wall Crawler and blasts the Inheritor strait through the plant wall. The savage Spider-Man pushes off the ground and spins around. The Scarlet Witch's arms are outstretched and nearly wrist to wrist, with pink magic smoking off her hands.
"Red. RED! GOD NO RED!" Harleen cries loudly, panicking.
Spider-Man stops dead in his tracks, and turns his now glowing red gaze toward Harley. Wanda follows suit, and immediately gasps. Quinn is cradling a very pale green Ivy in her arms and crying. Completely ignoring the fact that her right forearm is shattered. Harley holds Ivy's head against her own, her tears streaming down onto her best friend's face.
"Red... c'mon Red. Open yah eyes. Yah can't leave me like this. C'mon you've got to open your eyes. You're stronger than this!" Quinzel says amongst the sobbing.
"Pam... Harley? Wanda?" Spider-Man's heavy growling animal-like voice says as he watches the two. He begins to feel his muscles pop and shrink, his spines sinking away, and his mind clearing.
"Peter... Red she's dyin' we gotta save her." Harleen weeps and looks up at Peter. The two lock eyes, and Parker feels his rage start to die away, and he starts moving toward his roommates.
"Oh my god." Wanda says as she rushes to the girls. Even in his current state of mind he notices the huge welt across the left side of Wanda's face. He's about to run to his downed roommates, when Robin's voice stops him and Wanda.
"Spider-Man he's dissolving again!" The Boy Wonder shouts worriedly. Spidey tenses, knowing just what that means. His hands ball into tight fists, not wanting to leave Ivy or Harley's sides right now.
"Shit! Wanda, if he disappears he'll come back all over again! Can you stop him from dissolving?" Parker says hurriedly. Maximoff takes a quick look to Harley, then nods to Peter.
"So help me, I will." She says bitterly and flies over the wall.
Spider-Man runs to the girls and kneels down next to Harley. The blond woman's face is very pale, and she looks incredibly tired. Her right forearm dangles limply to her side. Blood is dripping from her ripped costume, and a sizable pool is forming on the ground. 'The blood loss is getting to her.'
"Peter what are we gonna do? Red's barely breathing." Harley asks as a fresh batch of tears spills forth. Looking to him for all the answers. Peter gently puts his ripped gloved hand on Ivy's torso just around the gaping wound. It's very deep and green blood continues to pour from it.
At that moment Ivy startles conscious, and lets out a pained gasp. Her eyes shrink and her body trembles. Pamela begins to go into shock and convulses in Harleen's loose hold.
"Red! Red, stop! Ya need to stop, or yer injury will get worse! Red!" Quinn demands, to no effect.
Peter reaches forward, pausing when he lifts up his arms and sees his stingers out. He retracts them, and clasps Pam's face in both hands, gently forcing her to look at him. "Pam. Pam it's Peter. Listen to my voice, you need to calm down."
Ivy's eyes move around wildly, barely focusing in him. He takes his right hand from her face, and tears off the remains of his mask. "BLOSSOM! LOOK AT ME!" Peter yells at her, and finally her vision focuses directly on his face. "That's my rosebud. Good girl." He soothes.
"P...Peter. Peter I... It hurts so much." She whimpers, her eyes tearing up from both the hurt and fear.
"Red. Yer gonna be okay. We'll get ya all patched up, and right as an Everythin' Bagel." Harley cries happily pulling Poison Ivy back into a one armed hug.
"Harley... you're okay. Thank god." Tears roll down her face too, and a weary smile graces her pale cheeks.
"Nothing a few bullets in that basterd's head won't fix." Harley chuckles back, but very much meaning it. Ivy tries to laugh, but winces as soon as she starts.
"Blossom I'm gonna seal up your wound with my webbing till we can get you some help. This is gonna hurt a bit, okay?" Spidey says, aiming his right wrist at the large wound. Ivy looks to him, nods, and braces for it. He sprays several globs of webbing onto it, and cringes when she strains at the pain. A few seconds later he finishes applying several layers of web to the injury.
"That should stop the blood, but you've lost a considerable amount. And we don't know how extensive the internal damage is yet. So you need to conserve your energy for now." He states, seeing her relax and breath out raggedly. "Harley let me see your arm. I'll make you a webbing cast."
"Thank you Peter. But I just need to make it back to the Garden soon. I can heal up there." Ivy weakly replies with a smile. Peter turned his head around to look at Ivy, as he applied a thick volume of webbing to Quinn's arm. Harley whimpers and whines throughout the process, but kept the howls to just the initial one.
"How?" Parker asked worriedly, finishing up with Harley's arm, and gently creating a silk sling for her.
"Trust me."
He gives her a smile and nod, then turns to his blue eyed roommate. "Bubbles, you aren't in any better shape with your arm that way. We'll need to you some medical attention quick too."
"Don't I know it? Freak smashed up my pitchin' arm. How am I gonna wow em at tryouts now?" She kidded tiredly. 'That's my Bubbles.'
"You two'll be fine, I promise. Rent is coming up and you are not getting out of it that easily." Spider-Man jokes back. They all share a smile together, before Poison Ivy starts coughing up blood, with some spilling from her lips. Gently Spider-Man wipes the remnants from her bottom lip.
"Hang on Blossom. I'll get you home soon."
"Spider-Man, I have him." Wanda speaks up from behind them, and Peter looks around to her. Above her head floats a pink bubble of chaotic energy. Inside is a half gone Morlun, his bottom half all but vanished. Scarlet Witch's arms are tucked against her sides, and her hands are out front and palms up, feeding energy to the magical prison.
"What did you do to him?" Spidey finds himself asking out of sheer curiosity. Honestly he really doesn't care as long as it was holding the bastard here.
"I've trapped him in a bubble of slowed time... essentially." Wanda explained as layman's terms as she could. 'I'm guessing the mystical side is much more complicated to explain.' Peter looks back to the girls once more seeing the anger in their eyes, as much as fatigue and pain would allow. He stands up, feeling his own muscles aching once again, and his chest still stung fiercely.
"Is it finally over?" Robin asked as he came into view. He was acting as a brace for Batman, who had seen much better days. Batman's left arm was tucked against his chest, an emergency brace and sling holding it in place. Besides that he looks as if he'd gone nearly a week without sleep. The Dark Knight, with the help of his sidekick, trudge up to the group.
"Heh heh. Look B-Man, we match." Harley giggled lightly, regretting that she tried to lift her broken arm with a violent wince.
"Harley... dammit. You shouldn't be moving that arm." Peter lightly scolded. Her reply is a stuck out tongue.
"Is he taken care of?" Batman asked with a raspy voice, ignoring Quinn's pun.
"If our guess is correct as long as he's alive here, he shouldn't be able to resurrect in a new body wherever he comes from. He's still alive, but my magic is only slowing time around him. If we wait to long he'll pass on and most likely return." Wanda explained to Batman and Robin.
"What about the plan? Are you capable of severing his connection from our dimension?" Batman questions her. With a solemn expression the Scarlet Witch gives him a nod.
"Given I have the time, it can be done. Unlike my world, I cannot simply will my magic on a scale that large and intricate here. I must have time to visualize and work my Hex Magic, or it will just run rampant as true chaos magics do. That is the one valuable skill I learned during my time with Klarion." She continues, looking up at her hostage. "Though if it is just sealing him and his ilk from this dimension it shouldn't take long."
"Happy to here it. Do you mind starting right away?" Spider-Man asked her politely and with a smile.
"Gladly. The sooner this demon is gone the better I'll feel." Wanda smiles back and turns around to find an open area to work.
"Can we strap a few of tons of C4 to him before he leaves? Yeh know, as a going away present to remember us by." Harley chirped with a vicious grin.
"I like your thinking Bubbles, but for now just making sure he wont come back is enough win in my book for today." Peter turns back around to smile at her. "Sides taking a good long sleep sounds much more appealing right now." Both Harley and Ivy nods in agreement.
"Somebody please tell me I didn't go down like an absolute punk... please." Leslie groans let her presence be known as she staggers out of the alley, using a wall as a guide. Her other hand was covering her face, either in shame or a headache or both.
"Total punk." Spidey and Harley reply at the same time. Livewire grits her teeth without removing the hand from her face. Her bracing hand turns into a fist and light smacks the brick wall.
"To be fair you did give him one hell of a sun tan." Spidey adds.
"Last time I help your sorry ass Bug-boy." Willis snipes back, moving out of the alley toward the group.
"Arachnid-man." Spider-Man corrects her and kneels down next to the girls, intending to pick Pam up into a carry.
"Ashes'll look the same no matter the name." She grumbles, coming to a halt next to Batman and Robin. She takes one look at the Caped Crusader and smiles. "You look more drained than me Bats." She chuckles. Batman just refuses to reply.
A motorcycle careens out of a corner a few blocks up the street, and rushes at them. Everyone tenses, and instinctively goes to block Wanda from the potential threat. Luckily it's just Black Canary, who quickly comes to a stop near them.
"Is everyone okay? Superman just called and said he and..." She askes as soon as she removes her helmet.
!SPIDER-SENSE!
A portal rips open right behind Dinah, making the woman desert her bike and gather up with the team. Out steps two men, one gaunt looking and wearing gloves, the other towering and burly. Both resembled Morlun in fashion and danger to the Spider-Sense. The haggard group all coil tightly in response, and ready themselves as best as injury and fatigue would allow. Spider-Man steps forward in front of his allies.
"Well well so this was what our Brother tried to hide from us." The shorter of the two says with a grin, staring right at Spider-Man.
"The Other, eh? That explains why he returned here as soon as he was reborn. He wanted to claim the glory for his own. Selfish brother, selfish." The big guy in a green jacket says.
!SPIDER-SENSE!
Spider-Man visibly flinches when another voice comes out of the portal.
"Tis a prize to covet my sons. However one that is best taken down as a family." Another large man steps out, the portal closing behind him. This man triggered a new level of danger in Spider-Man's head. He looked considerably older than the other two, but if his dialog was correct he was Morlun's father.
"You've got to be shitting me! Three more of them!?" Livewire says fear in her voice.
"Father, it appears our brother has been captured by a Scarlet Witch." The gloved man says directing the elder and sibling's attention to Wanda.
"Canary I need you to get everyone to safety." Spider-Man whispers to Dinah, who was closest to him.
"But Spider..." SPIDER-SENSE!
"Stop the witch and free him to be reborn Jennix. Daemos we shall take the Other together." The old Inheritor commands. The gaunt vampire lunges forward intending to just plow through the weary team. Out of nowhere a red and blue knee buries into his stomach, violently stopping him. Spider-Man ejects his left hand stinger and stabs the winded vampire in the shoulder, before kicking him back to the other two's feet.
Jennix howls and grabs at his shoulder as he writhes on the street. The elder and Daemos look slightly shocked at their downed family member before looking up to the Spider-Totem. Spider-Man ejects his other stinger, and faces the two down his body burning with determination. 'I won't let them die because of me.'
"If it's me you want..." Spider-Man throws his right hand out to his side, unleashing that stinger. His eyes flash red, and he snarls at the two Inheritors left. "...it's me you got me, but lay one finger on anyone else and I'll end you."
"HAHAHA! Such bravado! But know that you face Solus, King and Progenitor of the my race. I welcome the challenge." Solus laughes hardily, before his own eyes flash red.
"Peter you can't!" Pam shouts, as she struggles against Black Canary who's attempting to take her away.
"PETER!" Harleen cries as she's being held back by Livewire. Batman watches on powerless to stop this, as Robin is fighting the urge to help Spider-Man. Wanda, behind them all, is desperately rushing the spell. Concentrating solely on it, with tears falling from her eyes.
"I'm sorry." Peter spares the girls a glance, and smiles before he starts to give himself over to the Other inside. His muscle burn and expand, his skin crawls and hardens, and his eyes grow and flare. Peter lets loose a monstrous battle cry.
Solus rushes the transforming Spider-Man, laughing at his fortune.
BAM!
Spider-Man freezes as he watches the vampire progenitor punched strait into the ground. A shock wave falls over the collected.
"FATHER/Father!" Daemos and Jennix shout in surprise. Every set of eyes fall on Superman floating in front of Spider-Man, and pulling his fist back.
"Su...pes?" Spidey says in a layered voice, not believing his own eyes.
"I'm sorry we couldn't be here sooner, Spider-Man." The Man of Steel replies remorse filling his tone. "Is everyone okay?"
"We?" Peter asks, just before Daemos roars in rage and charges Superman.
KABAM!
The large Inheritor is sent into a building courtesy of a roundhouse kick from Supergirl. Her blond hair falling around her as she turns to face her cousin and Peter.
"Oh my god Spidey, what happened to you?" Her right hand covers her mouth as she takes in the sight of him.
"I... I..."
"Everyone's alive, but not really well Big Blue." Leslie says to the to Clark after the quick skirmish.
A green glow illuminates the dark street. The Wall-Crawler looks up to see a bubble of green energy housing Wonder-Woman, Flash, and Captain Atom. They are led by a green energy tether connected to the Green Lantern, John Stewart. About ten feet off the ground the bubble vanishes and all the League members drop down to wall off Spider-Man and his beaten crew from the Inheritors.
"Dude are... are you okay?" Flash questions concerned as he runs up next to his friend.
"I'm..." Peter feels a wave of anger for him and the Gotham fighters, but bites it back. His body once again starts to revert back to his regular body. "...I've been better. What took you so long?"
"Amazo wanted to have a chat with Luthor. Sorry man, but we had a world to save. You don't know how bad I wanted to get here." Flash clenched his fists obviously guilty about almost letting Peter and company die.
"Can't really blame you then... but better late than never, huh?"
"Spider-Man we truly wanted to be here. I hope you can forgive us." Wonder Woman says.
"Yeah sorry man, but now the big guns you requested are here. You guys just take a load off." John says cockily, his body lighting up with the lantern energy.
"Scarlet Witch is working on a way to kick them out of this dimension permanently. So you just need to hold them off till then." Peter explains feeling very drained suddenly.
"No problem." Flash give shim a thumbs up, which Spidey returns.
"Who dares to stop the Great Hunt. You shall pay for interfering with our destiny." Solus spits out with a small amount of blood as he emerges from the ground.
Superman steps up to the old Inheritor, dwarfed by the man's sheer size. "We do, and you are done here."
"RAHHH!" Solus bellows and throws a huge fist down at the much smaller caped man. Superman effortlessly catches the punch with one hand. The elder vampire's eyes widen, and he exerts more force. His arm begins to shake from the strain. "Impossible."
Superman grips Solus's hand and pulls it back, before open palm striking the Inheritor's chest. The Progenitor is launched down the street a good distance before Superman follows blindingly fast.
At that same moment Daemos tears his way out of the building, only to be met by Wonder Woman and Supergirl.
"Hey ugly, didja like that little trip I sent you on?" Kara mocks, cracking her knuckles.
"I refuse to believe a little girl like you struck me OOMPH!" The large man is silenced by a fist to the face.
Jennix found his attempt to get up halted by a glowing energy fist staring him in the face.
"I'd suggest you stay down." Captain Atom said in a tone that implied it wasn't a suggestion.
"The spell is complete!" Wanda announces. Spider-Man take his eyes off the suddenly heavily tipped scales, and turns to her. The pink bubble housing Morlun is radiating flares of Hex Energy. Peter runs up to her to stand next to Batman and Robin.
"Thanks Wanda." Parker steps forward and pats Wanda's shoulder giving her a smile, before looking up at the trapped Morlun.
"I'm not sure if you can hear me in there Morlun, but know this. You lost, again. And if my counterpart is anything like me, this hunt of yours is destined to fail. They will find a way to stop you for good. Take that to heart." Spider-Man smirks triumphantly.
The orb raises into the air, and begins to spin. Wanda's eyes and hands explode in pink energy. "Be gone and never come back!" Her voice echoes with power, and in an instant the entire street is bathed in a pink light. The bubble vanishes during this and so do the rest of the vampiric family.
The League members slowly regroup from their various fights.
"Batman, Spider-Man, again I'm sorry we couldn't arrive sooner. It looks like you all took a serious beating." Superman acknowledges his injured friends and colleagues.
"It's fine, stop apologizing please. We've all been tardy to the party at some time or another. Besides you guys were handling a much bigger threat." Spider-Man pleaded with raised hands. He finally let out the long held breath of relief. He looks back over to Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, who were being attended by Livewire, Canary, and Supergirl.
"Listen I..Ivy's got a hole in her chest and already lost a lot of blood. She needs to get back home as soon as possible. Can we do the whole wrap up after she's not on death's door, please." Spider-Man asks hurriedly, turning back around to Superman and the rest of the heroes.
"We can get her transported to the Watchtower and treat her there." Captain Atom speaks up, but Peter shakes his head at the idea.
"She was pretty insistent... and home's closer. If you could take Harley, I'll meet you all up there after Ivy's better." He asked carefully. 'I'm pretty sure she wouldn't want to be indebted to the good guys more than she already is. She's still not chummy with them after all.'
"Alright, I'll take you guys, just show me the way." John agrees, raising his ring hand up, letting the green shine.
"Thanks. Sorry... I'll catch back up with you all soon." Spider-Man nods to the group and jogs back to his wounded roommates. He stops next to a kneeling Supergirl, who just had her hand swatted away by and obstinate Harley, who's still holding dearly onto her best friend.
"Geeze I'm just trying to help." Kara grumbles, glaring back at Harleen.
"Thanks Kara, but I got it from here." Wanda and John step up behind Spidey.
"You sure?" Supergirl asks.
"Yup, though you may wanna go check in with Oracle and Huntress. I'm sure they need a friendly face that isn't mine right now. Mimi can you show her the way?" Peter asks looking from Kara to Dinah.
"Yeah, C'mon Supergirl." Black Canary and Supergirl stand and step away from them.
"Alright Harls, I'll take her from here, but I want you to go with Supes and his group to the Watchtower. They'll patch you up there, and we'll meet you up there once Blossom is better."
"No I'm not leavin Red's side!" Harley barks out, pulling closer to her downed friend.
"Harley... please. Go with them. We'll break you out once you use them to heal yourself up." Pam persuaded weakly, looking up at her friend's face.
"But..."
"C'mon Checkers, I'll go with you for their protection." Leslie consoles, which despite the tears earns a choked laugh from Harley.
"I better see you two up there soon." Quinn scowls from Peter to Pam, and reluctantly releases Ivy from her hold. Spider-Man smiles and nods to her, threading his arms underneath Ivy carefully. Picking her up into a bridal carry, making sure she was secure in his arms.
"We'll see you soon Bubbles. Trust me you'll enjoy the view." Peter grins and turns around to see John and Wanda waiting on him. He feels a weak tug at his costumed chest and looks down to see Ivy holding up his torn mask. She slowly manages to pull it over his head, covering most of his identity, even damaged.
"You may need this." Pam's tiny voice came out with a small smile, despite her haggard appearance.
"Thanks. Now lets get you home." Looking up he nods to Stewart. The Green Lantern nods back before raising his ring fist up, and covering Spider-Man and Poison Ivy in a green sphere.
"Hang on." John says with a grin before his body glows green and he and his passengers take off into the air. Wanda follows suit, flying next to her friend in the bubble.
The ride is a quick one, but every second only makes Parker worry more about Isley. Her breathing became shallow dramatically during the trip. They arrive on their roof, and Wanda quickly lets them inside, magically picking the locks.
"I'll wait out here. I'm pretty sure I'm not really welcome here." John says crossing his arms over his chest and leaning against the railing outside the Garden entrance. Wanda is silent but she obviously intends to stay outside as well.
"Good call. Make yourself at home GJ. Hopefully this wont take long." Peter says as he opens the door to the dark mini forest inside. Flicking on the lights, he navigates the small maze of plants quickly. Once he comes to the clearing inside he freezes instantly.
There hanging against the largest tree is the pod with Pam's body. Still untouched and in a state of suspended animation. 'I thought she...'
"I'm sorry... Peter." Ivy says softly and breathless. "I was... scared..." She manages before her body shudders violently and she coughs up some more blood.
"Don't worry about that now. What do you need me to do." Despite his shock, her health was top priority.
"Take... me to... my body." Pam wheezes out. Quick walking up to the cocoon, he makes sure she's within a foot of her real body.
"What now?" He watches as Poison Ivy reaches out and gently places a blood covered hand on the pod. Her eyes close and she steadies her breath as best as she can. Small tendrils grow out of the leafy cocoon and embed themselves into her hand and forearm.
Peter watches both Pam's intently for changes in either. Suddenly the woman in his arms goes completely limp.
"Blossom? Pam? PAMELA! What's going on? Speak to me, Pam!" He panics, shaking the lifeless body slightly in his arms. Maneuvering his upper arm to lift her rolled back head up so he could check it for any signs of life.
"I'm alright Parker." Peter's eyes shoot up to the woman in the pod. Her gold black eyes are half open, and she looks groggy, like waking up from a long sleep.
"Thank god. Don't scare me like that." He growls half heartedly at her, relief washing through him.
"I could say the same of you." She snarks back tiredly, still waking up. Parker takes one more look at the body in his arms. 'It's so disturbing to see her both alive and dead at the same time.'
"Set the body down over there, and grab my robe please." Ivy motions her head to the grass knoll next to the tree and pod.
"Right." He sighs heavily, the final and largest chunk of worry evaporating in him. The vines pulls themselves from Ivy's double's arm, and he gently lays the body down on the grass. Quickly he runs to the workbench and grabs her red housecoat. In a matter of seconds he's standing back in front of the pod, waiting.
A seam cuts down the middle of the vegetation construct, and it separates with a squelch. Green ooze strands split apart as it cracks open fully. Vein-like vines slither out from under Pam's naked flesh, as a larger plant tendril around her waist lowers her to the ground. Peter at least has the decency to look away as she softly steps onto the grass.
Avoiding staring he offers her her robe. She takes the clothing with an appreciative nod and throws it over green slime covered self. She sticks her hands underneath her matted hair and flips it out from under the robe. Spidey takes two steps back to let her do this, finally able to look up at her without gawking too much.
"What was that back there?" She asked after rolling her long red hair in her hands. Her eyes glancing up at him, while she went about the task of cleaning her hair.
"Well... that guy was a vampire of sorts from my dimension. He apparently..." Peter started, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Not that, Parker. I mean what was happening to you at the end? It's like you were morphing into another spider monster." She asked carefully, watching him carefully now.
"Oh... Oh yeah, that. I'm not entirely sure, honestly... but I think it had something to do with my other powers returning. I don't know why it happened, honestly. But something similar happened when I killed Morlun the second time he came after me. Best guess, it was related that Other they were calling me." He explained as best as he could.
"I see. I was afraid it may have been a lingering effect from before." Pam gave him a half smile, and started to move toward the entrance to the Garden. "I need to take a shower." She says offhandedly making Peter chuckle. He starts to follow her a few steps behind. Staring at her the situation catches back up with him and debates asking.
"So... why did you stay in your doppleganger? I thought you decided to try staying part human for a while longer?" He had to ask, seeing as it was nagging at him since he found out. It was probably a question best asked without the company of prying ears.
Ivy stops a few feet from the door, and Spidey follows suit. She pauses wringing the goo out of her hair and just fidgets with it instead. She sighs after a few moments and spins around to face him. Her mouth opens, looking like she wants to say something, but closes it without saying a word. Pam looks away from him, seeming to grapple with what she wants to say.
"You don't have to tell me right now if yo..."
"Are you returning to your home dimension?" Poison Ivy blurts out, interrupting him. Blinking owlishly Peter is taken aback by the sudden question.
"Umm... well uh... I..." He stammers, trying to figure out why she would ask that out of the blue. More importantly what it had to do with her staying in the plant construct body. She lets out an annoyed huff at his fumbling words, and glares at him.
"I stayed because you found your friend and would most likely want to return. She obviously has the power to take you two back. So what was the point in staying human if there is nothing left to stay human for." She stabs a finger into his chest, basically throwing his words from the other day back at him. The hero is beyond confused at this point.
"Wha... why would me leaving change that?" After the words leave his mouth his brain finally catches up to the hidden meaning of what she said. 'No... you can't mean...' His eyes widen as he sees Ivy step up to him and grab his face in both sticky hands.
She pulls his face down to meet hers, and seals her lips against his. Peter's visible eye bugs out, and his body stiffens. The kiss is fierce and full of passion, and completely intoxicating. The kiss takes his breath away, for the few seconds it lasts. Ivy finally separates from him, falling back onto her heels, but keeps her eyes locked onto his. Her hands never leave his face, making sure she has his total undivided attention.
"I am afraid you'll leave Peter." Pamela says forcing through her worry. "You don't realize how scared I was once you saved her. I thought I had time. That I could handle this better, be more prepared. Then you almost died saving me, and seeing her power. I couldn't help but doubt that you would stay." She bites her bottom lip, her expression relaying all the anxiety she is pushing through to tell him this. Peter just waits quietly for her to continue, even if his head is a maelstrom and his heart is beating wildly. Finding her resolve once again she continued.
"It made me withdraw, wondering if you would leave us. What was the point of staying human if you weren't here to make it matter. Besides Harley you are the only person I've ever felt this way about. I couldn't face life as a human if you were suddenly taken from me." Tears well up at the sides of her eyes as she lets everything out to him. They started to fall when she stopped to take a breath, giving him a pensive smile.
"I love you, Peter... please don't leave me."
CHAPTER 11 END
Chapter 12 Preview
(Reader's Choice)
((Details in A/N))
A/N: And from the limbo I return once again. This chapter... this chapter was a roller coaster to write; let me tell you. I wrote the first part relatively quick, but then I realized the beginning wasn't grabbing my attention as much as I wanted. I rewrote it and put the original beginning as the 15 minutes ago flashback. From there it was constant rewrites and edits. I needed the entire battle to flow and make sense. Then as I approached the 10K mark I realized I only had barely half of what I wanted, and I wasn't gonna stop.
Long story short it was a long road to a hopefully very brutal, visceral, and entertaining fight. That ending though... that was a long debate in and of itself. Anyways, I wont take much more of your time, I just hope you enjoy this chapter, and that it was worth the ungodly wait. This chapter is nearly twice as long as my usual chapters, clocking in at around 19.6K words and 51 pages in length.
That being said I need all your help with the coming chapters. There is two routes I can go with it, with one I've been planning since the very beginning. What I want my reader's help with it choosing what comes next. Both can flow into the other, but I leave it up to you. I'm going to set up a poll on my profile page for it. There won't be any spoilers besides the chapter/arc titles, but I'm sure they'll give you enough details to choose on their own. In advance thank you for voting and I can't wait to see the results.
Thank you all for putting up with the insane time between chapters, and I hope this chapter was worth the wait. As always I thank you for reading and reviewing, and here's till next time my friends.
Wiggles out!
PS: With this chapter "Pam, Pete, and Harley" has reached 150K words! That's alot a words!
Kurama Otsutsuki: Well I hope this chapter answered your questions my friend. Thanks for reading.
MeleeSmasher: More of a Spider-Verse tie in. Late as it is. But I can guarantee Secret Wars wont take place here.
Guest 1: I guess you'll just have to read this chapter lol.
HaywireEagle: Wait no longer... oh and sorry for the long ass wait. And boy howdy is he the stuff of nightmares. The Gotham crew won't be forgetting him anytime soon.
FateBurn: Thank you, and sorry for testing your patience lol.
Jack Inqu: No kidding right. Thanks for reading.
Jebest4781: Glad you liked the last chapter. Oh just to clarify, the events taking place in this world happen before the main 616 events. But the way I see it an Other needs to be in their dimension, so Kain still had it in 616.
GumGumOnigiri: Well that is gonna be a tale for a future chapter definitely, I promise you. Let's just say that it'll be one very large hurdle for Pete. Yes Morlun. Seriously. Lol.
xbox432: What Harley wants, Harley tends to get.
EroSlackerMicha: Well it was mostly for a Spider-Verse tie in, but I also wanted a way to stress Spidey's returned powers. And most of Gotham's rogues wouldn't cut it. Thanks Ero!
Hero of the Multiverse: Fucking Morlun... really.
Brown-Eyed-Friend: Well to clarify Harley was most likely the one to initiate it, but Pete is a gentleman. Sorry to make you wait even longer, but I hope it was worth it.
Reven 6666: Can do. Here's more.
Rakjo: Glad you like my writing so much, and sorry for the long wait.
Vahn: Not really... I mean when Harley likes a guy, she usually wont restrain her desires. Well since my Peter was pulled from the Marvelverse before those events, probably not. But he will have plenty of flashbacks to prove his awesomeness. You know it's actually kinda amazing how many people have suggested Wanda use that spell for this fic. Lol. Thanks for reading Vahn.
HarbringerofKaos: Happy to make that hope a reality. Is she now? Hmmm well I do have a soft spot for Wanda.
SolarEnergy07: Kay.
marco2o: Been so long, what was I apologizing for? Probably making you wait so long for a new chapter. Here's more though.
The Earth Elemental: Glad you are enjoying it. Yup they do make an interesting dynamic don't they?
Mashot Tito: What have I committed too, now? I swear I have made no promises... but it would be cool if it happened that way. Someone outta write a fanfiction about that pairing. Don't you worry though, there will definitely be some back story on how that gets going.
Paperman0: No worries I didn't want the Spider-Army in there either. The Inheritor's though, that was a tough call. As for the bike date... unfortunately it's gonna have to wait.
MF 22: Don't you just love conjecture, lol. Twice actually, but both fights were incredibly brutal and not in Spidey's favor. As you have read he does keep the Other's powers, and even begins to tap into them, but he's not like Kain. So his use of it will be much lessened. Morlun showed up because of the surge in power thanks to Klarion. It was just too big a target to pass up. Strange... well that another story. I know, I know, but its just an error most people make, and even I am not exempt. Thanks for reading.
AgedZen-01: Thanks, glad to be back. Heh heh T. Heh. You don't have to send me a PM, but I'll read it and probably respond if you do lol. Now that some time has passed with the ANAD stories though I'm not as disgruntled at them. And I like that Spidey is finally getting some recognition... even if it's turning him into a but of an asshole. Can do and he certainly did. Thanks for reading.
Chaos-Guard: Laugh and immediately into shivers. That's what I was going for.
Spidey Ryan: Thanks. Well they were there to make a threat, for as short as it was lol. And a big Ivy scene at the end there. Hope you liked it.
ZonCon: Boy I bet your face lit up when this posted. Thanks for reading.
Nick: Still some time till the big thing happens, but it'll be a fun ride to it, I promise.
Cerberus13: Well Spidey did his very damnedest. I so glad you like my character interactions, those always worry me the most when writing these chapters.
Cashagon: No, no you aren't Cap. And nothing wrong with that. He certainly had a way about him that just draws you in.
hollowichigo12: Why thank you H-Ichi. Really glad you liked the beginning, I really really wanted readers to think I went that way with it. Sorry for the wait, and hope it was worth it.
Tarix: Finish off the Joker... but Batman would kill me.
HowlnMadHowie: That he does.
Guest 2: Unfortunately there are no flashbacks here, but I hope it kept your attention. Thank you.
Angel of Atonement: Thanks so much Angel. I'm glad you don't mind waiting. Really I want to get these chapters out faster, but life... yeah. And I'm glad you pick up on those small details, I work really hard to throw those subtleties and joke in there.
The Book of Eli: One hell of a smackdown.
: The cycle will have to wait unfortunately.
Plasma57: Ummm... I updated... you still here?
Nick 2: Achievement Unlocked: Updated!
Devil Rebel: Thank you, I was waiting for someone to throw that joke out there. Glad to give you a new perspective. Thanks for reading.
The Wicked Truth: . . . I will get you to say something new one of these days Wicked. Mark my words.
diagonalpumpkin: No, thank you Pumpkin. That was a very kind review. I can't thank you enough for the praise, it really means a lot. I hope to continue to write the story to meet that expectation. Thank you again, and I really hope you enjoy this new chapter.
Nick 3,4,5: Has it really been since August... dang. I'm so very sorry to make you wait man. I hope to get the next chapter out sooner.
Blue Soki: The Spider-Bike Chronicles! Lol. It probably wont do all that, but it will certainly be around.
Sungawd Ra: Yeah the 4th walling takes a bit getting used to, but I feel the exposition helps, especially explaining new characters, and previous situations. As for him accepting, Peter is adaptable. He was willing to play along until he found Wanda, that was the motivation at the start. All in all I'm glad you are enjoying the story, thanks.
Ranmaleopard: Wow someone really likes my story. But no promises on the pairings... at least no major promises.
NaoDarkness: Cool, I can always use more followers lol. Thank you for the praise. Boy this chapter had a lot of environment change huh? Hope you enjoyed it, thanks for reading.
Kurama's Fan 108: I know, I know, I really wanted this out months ago too, but life man... it takes away from a lot of writing. But here is the newest installment, I hope it was worth the wait.
Oni Rinku: Boy you must have jumped for joy at the end of this chapter.
carwash36: What a twist lol. Thanks.
titan616: Morlun would be the only villain in his rogues gallery that would actively track him down. And could do it across the multi-verse too. I'm glad you enjoy my story. Thank you.
