Disclaimer: James, Peter, Sirius and Remus are all J.K Rowling's children, I'm just visiting.

A/N: There is light slash in this, if you're afraid of gay coodies, move along. (Homophobic isn't a word in my dictionary; you're not mortally afraid of gays, you're just an asshole.)

He's Your Mutt

Remus Lupin was trying very hard to focus on his book and ignore the boy whose head lay in his lap.

It wasn't working.

'Sirius, get off my lap!' he growled, slapping at the hand that was turning pages. His only reply was a yank on the pages, nearly ripping them out.

'Prongs!' he whined, 'Put a leash on your mutt!'

James' gaze didn't waver from the group of girls making their way to their usual lunch spot.

'He's your mutt,' James muttered and Remus flushed, his sharp mind picking up on the innuendo. Peter giggled and Remus glanced down at the annoying head, grimacing.

Sirius, his hand stinging from the earlier smack, was trying to turn a page with his tongue.

Remus snapped the book shut and was rewarded with a pained yelp, repeated when Sirius, sitting up, knocked his forehead against the closed volume.

'Eh thunk eh haf a pafercuf onth mai tong,' Sirius groaned, tongue stuck out, his eyes crossed as he tried to see the offending organ, which was uncomfortably close to Remus' face.

'I'm going to bite that off if you don't get it away from my face!' Remus growled, leaning away with a frown.

Sirius stopped his comical-yet-annoying attempts to see his tongue and stared at Remus.

'Aw Moony, don't tease him like that,' James grinned, finally looking away from the girls. Both Remus and Sirius turned to him, eyebrows raised. James sighed, shaking his head, muttering something that sounded like "hopeless", his eyes back on the girls.

'What exactly do you mean?' Sirius asked, bemused, and Remus snorted. He may not like what James was implying but at least he understood. Sirius was clueless.

James rolled his eyes, head tilted as he stared at Sirius, waiting for him to catch up.

Remus watched Sirius, almost seeing the cogs in his thick skull turning. His realisation was announced by a strangled yell as the raven-haired boy sprung to his feet.

'I am NOT-' he paused, realising that it may not be a good idea to yell so loudly.

'I'm not gay!' he hissed at James, turning his glare on Remus.

'Pads I-' Sirius cut James off with a curse, turned on his heel and stormed off.

'You've done it now, Prongs,' Peter sighed and James looked guilty.

'I was joking,' he mumbled, not looking at Remus.

Remus sighed. He knew this would happen. A year ago he'd come to the realisation that he was... bi-curious, for want of a word. He'd hidden this startling truth from his parents and classmates and even his friends, but a few weeks ago it had started eating at him so he confessed, hoping they'd understand. They had, or so he thought. Ever since his confession, Sirius had been acting odd; one day he'd flirt shamelessly with Remus, the next he'd stay as far away from the wolf as possible.

Remus rubbed his eyes wearily.

'Moons, maybe you should go talk to him?'

Remus turned his green eyes on James, who didn't flinch or look away.

'Why?'

'Because you're the only one who won't tease him about making a scene,' Peter intoned in a bored voice, as if this was obvious. James stared at the usually quite boy for a moment.

'Yes... that.'

Remus sighed again, brushing grass off his pants as he stood, waving a greeting as he set off to find his friend.

Remus grumbled as he trudged along the seventh floor corridor; he was late for Defence. He'd considered going to class but he knew that Sirius wouldn't pitch. Why he felt the need to skip class to find the irritating dog, he didn't know. He reached the blank wall at the end of the corridor and paused, then began to pace.

I need a place to hide. He repeated in his head and pushed open the door that appeared, stepping into a room that looked very much like the Gryffindor Common Room, his eyes adjusting quickly to the gloom, zeroing in on the figure slumped in an armchair.

'You should refine your request a bit,' he said lightly and the figure jumped.

'I didn't expect anyone to come looking for me,' Sirius grumbled. Remus fell into the armchair on his right and stared into the crackling fire.

'I'm going to miss Defence,' he said airily.

'Not my problem.'

Remus growled, annoyed, but quickly stifled the noise. It wouldn't help his cause.

'What's eating you?' he asked shortly, surprising the other boy, 'Ever since I told you the truth about my... curiousity you've been acting like a git.'

There was a short silence then Sirius spoke; 'I don't know what you mean.'

Remus stiffened.

'You know exactly what I mean,' he said in a dangerously low voice, 'when I told you about this you said it was okay, you said it didn't bother you, but the next day you started with your shit. One day you act as gay as they come and flirt as if your life depends on it, then the next you ignore me, avoid me, and make me feel like the dirt of the earth!' his hands were curling up, fingers gripping the arms of his chair, ripping into the fabric, as he spoke, his voice becoming louder as he vented, 'You treat me like some contagious disease! James understood, even Peter understood, and they joke about it, let me know to them it doesn't matter, but you... You!' Remus nearly snarled the last word and in his seat Sirius froze.

'Moony...'

'No! I'm sick of it Sirius! If my sexuality bothers you, say so, and I'll leave.'

He didn't need to explain that he meant permanently.

'It doesn't.'

'Oh, really? That's funny, I'd have thought that your teasing says otherwise,' sarcasm dripped off his words and he saw Sirius flinch.

'Mine does.'

Remus almost missed it, Sirius spoke so quietly.

'Wait, what? You're straight, half the girls in this castle will testify in court to that.'

'They'd be lying.'

Remus stared at his friend doubtfully, 'What do you mean?'

'I've never done more than snog a girl,' Sirius told him, turning his grey orbs on Remus.

'And the stories?' Remus asked, his anger forgotten.

'Lies. Girls just want to say that they've been in bed with me.'

Silence fell as Remus absorbed this new information. His mind protested that Sirius was lying but he ignored it – Sirius hadn't lied to him before.

'Moony?'

'Yeah?'

'I'm sorry.'

Remus' heart melted at Sirius words; he sounded like a small child.

'Just... Stop treating me like shit, 'kay?'

There was a pause.

'May I... May I try something?'

Remus smiled, 'Sure?'

Before he could blink Sirius was out of his chair and standing before him. The taller boy pulled him to his feet and Remus flushed when he realised they were pressed chest to chest.

'Do you like me Moony?'

'I-I don't know. You-You're a friend,' Remus barely managed to stutter. Sirius face was unreadable.

'Trust me,' was all he whispered before leaning down and slowly pressing his lips to Remus'.

They had missed all of their afternoon classes but they didn't care. They had missed dinner but they didn't care. Or at least Remus didn't.

'Seems like your furry little problem has some upsides,' Sirius panted and was rewarded with a growl as Remus tugged on his hair, locking their lips together again.

Sirius didn't mind.
