"I plan to leave here and find a man to marry that will truly provide for me. So thank Mey-Rin from the bottom of my heart for saving me from a pointless life."
Sophia goes as far as to put her hand on Mey-Rin's shoulder while smiling in her face. Baldroy gasps he and Finnian both look at Sophia with a stunned looks on their faces.
"You think your better than me?"
"No Mey-Rin I know that I am."
Sophia turns forward and keeps the smile on her face.
"Sophia what's gotten into you?" asks Baldroy
"I wised up."
Sophia almost bursts out laughing. She had killed Miss Wiser in the past and now she had wised up. A funny play on words for her.
Sebastian enters the room and clears his throat. Sophia remains smiling.
"Good morning. Everyone is here so we may begin. Today will not be as eventful as the past days have been but the master will be entertaining guests this afternoon. As usual I expect every one of you to be on top of your chores. The morning will begin as usual then we meet here at ten sharp and I will assign further tasks. Are we clear?"
Everyone nods.
"Then get to it."
Mey-Rin is the first to break away and go to Sebastian's side. She glares back at Sophia who smiles at her and leaves the room to do her choirs. At one point Baldroy and Sophia are alone in the kitchen.
"Why did you say those things?"
"Earlier?"
"Yes. Why?"
"Baldroy it's true. I will leave here and continue on my journey."
"I mean the stuff you said about a servant's life being pointless. That can't be true. You yourself have been a servant for a while haven't you?"
Sophia shrugs her shoulders.
"That doesn't mean anything sometimes in life things change."
"I know your hurt by what Sebastian did."
Sophia flinches and her smile disappears.
"And what would you know about pain?"
Sophia's eyes appear angry.
"I know that it helps if you have someone to talk to that's all."
Sophia nods.
"You're sweet Baldroy."
"You keep telling me that."
"A sweet guy like you doesn't need to be mixed up in my crap."
"But..."
Before Baldroy can finish Sophia dashes out of the kitchen. She could feel the tears rising in her eyes and needed to excuse herself right away. Right before she gets to the stairs Sebastian seems to appear out of nowhere blocking the stairs.
"Excuse me." she says
She tries to keep her head down.
"Have you finished your chores?"
"Almost just needed to go to the washroom."
"Why are you not looking at me when I speak to you?"
Sophia takes a deep breath and casts her eyes upward. Sebastian's face appears calm and composed as always.
"Is there anything else?" she asks.
"No nothing further."
Sebastian moves aside for Sophia, and she hurries up the stairs. If Sebastian had seen a trace of her tears he had decided not to speak on them. She was tempted to say something to him, but she didn't know what to say or how to begin. He had made up his mind about who he wanted, but why did he pick Mey-Rin? She was the only other female in the house, but he could do so much better. Sophia loved Sebastian but that still didn't seem like enough. Maybe she should just step outside and let the creature that chased her end her life.
Sophia goes into her room and locks the door. She goes over to the window once again and looks out at the bright blue sky full of puffy white clouds. She ponders to herself how she ever allowed things to get so bad. Someone is kneeling behind a bush close to the estate. It must be Finnian his life was so simple compared to hers. He stands up from behind the bush and Sophia can see his red hair. Wait a minute Finnian's hair has never been red. She immediately recognizes the smiling face that looks up at her from the ground. It was the guy from the party she attended the night she ended up here. What was he doing here?
Sophia opens the window and yells down to him.
"What are you doing here?"
"I've found you." he says.
He smiles again this time revealing his shark like teeth.
"Why did you come here?"
The red haired weirdo only smiles with no reply.
"You can't be here."
Sophia looks over her shoulder, no one has come to knock on her door so she is okay for the moment.
"Come down and see me." he says
"I can't. I 'll never get past Sebastian."
"Sebastian... Are your toenails still red? I have a gift for you."
The red-haired guy was just as Sophia remembered his mind is all over the place.
"I just told you I can't come outside right now."
"Then tonight?"
"Are you going to wait here for the rest of the day?"
"Meet me tonight midnight in the garden."
"What?"
Before Sophia can ask a single question he's gone without a trace. She didn't know the weirdo by name but he really seemed to like her the first night they met. He made her uncomfortable not because of how he looked but the things he said to her. He asked her tons of personal questions about bizarre fetish acts. If she didn't meet him tonight he could knock on the door and tell the master the entire story about her. He must have seen her in her maid uniform just now. He didn't say anything. Maybe no one would believe a weird looking guy like him anyway. What if they did? He said he had a gift for her. What could that be? Probably a decomposing squirrel carcass or a vat of blood. Sophia giggles to herself he would be into something just like that. She was feeling a little better, although weird he had somehow lightened her mood. She had to meet him tonight even if it was only to tell him to fuck off. Sophia hadn't made up her mind yet about which.
