Chapter 13

Germany and Italy walked through the parking deck, Norway, Sweden and France right behind them.
"We'll pick Alfred up from his room right after getting the transportation ready."
"Yeah! Road trip!"
"Italy, we are not having a road trip!"
A frown creased on Italy's mouth. "I know, Germany. But I thought we could make it fun. Make it better for Alfred."
"Oh. . . okay. That'll be fine. Just don't go overboard."
"Yay! Grazie, Germany!"
"Sure, sure. Oh-"
Right in front of them, Canada struggled with a huge duffle bag. Germany and Italy didn't say a thing. Or rather couldn't before France ran up to his son and enclosed him in a tight embrace.
"Papa!"
"Where did you go?!"
Canada let go of the bag and held his father tight. "Je suis désolé. I just had to get some things for Alfred."
France looked at the duffle bag. "Things?"
"Hopefully things that will remind him of us. . . I just couldn't stand by and do nothing. . . But I guess I should have said something."
Canada pulled away from France as best he could, his usual small smile taking its place on his mouth once again.
Germany said. "We're glad you're back. But your timing might be a little off."
"Is he getting worse?!"
"A little. But we were about to go back to his apartment anyways-"
"Don't go back there." Canada said. "It'd probably be better to go to his country home. That's where I was."
Norway said. "But isn't that hours away?"
"Oui. . . but I think it'll be worth it. Alfred's apartment doesn't have a lot of his personal things. But his country home is filled with memories. And good ones too."
Germany said. "If you think it's worth it, we'll go. But I'll stay behind in order to wrap up the meetings."
"I will too," said Norway. "Wouldn't want Denmark starting a fight with Russia. Or anyone else for that matter. What about you Sweden?"
Sweden picked up the duffle bag that was still by Canada's feet. "Alfred weighs a lot. I'll carry him"
Germany said. "At least we're getting somewhere. I'll leave you all to prepare the car, then. I need to go check on our patient."

England stood, trying to hide the shaking in his knees, as Russia handed him medicines, candles and oils.
"How in the world do you keep all this under your jacket?!"
"Many, many pockets."
"What are these all for?!"
"I have instructions."
"B-but-"
"I would tell you more, but if that Dane or albino find me here, it'll create a little more trouble for me than I want right now. They might even call my little sestra."
"O-oh. I see."
"Just follow the instructions and he'll get better."
After the last balm was placed on the side table, Russia took out a large wool bag.
"You can put all of them in here. China may get suspicious, but he shouldn't say anything in front of the others. I'll leave you now, before anyone comes."
Russia turned to see England looking up, frown mirroring his confusion.
"What?"
"Why. . . why do you want to help him so much?"
Russia shrugged.
"And what does that mean?"
"I don't know." Russia said. "I just don't want a weak adversary I guess."
"A weak adversary?"
"If Alfred is weak, then America is weak. And if America is weak . . . then so am I. And I don't like to be weak."
"Ah. I see."
"Da."
Russia walked to the door. He stopped right before leaving.
"Just remember to not baby him so much. He's strong. Even when he's not all here."
"Okay."
England watched Russia leave, before turning back to the piles of jars. He picked up the folded paper on top.
"Oh great. The instructions are all in Russian." A sigh escaped his lips. "Well at least I have data on my phone."

Prussia drank his alcohol in one swift shot. Denmark did the same.
"So what are your plans, Dane?"
"Stay here and keep an eye on Russia. You?"
"Go with Alfred and make sure he's okay."
"You think he will be? He seems to just be getting worse."
"I have a plan if all else fails."
"Plan? Mind telling me what it is?"
Prussia grinned, fang-like teeth glinting in the low light of the bar. "Now that would be revealing a special secret."
Denmark laughed, hiding his slight fear of Prussia's ambition. "Just don't start another war."
