Chapter 6: Double Duel, Double Trouble
She couldn't get over it, how could she lose to that scruff? She didn't even act like princess or even dress like one. There was no way that Hayley could actually be a princess. It was time to set things straight, she would find a tag partner and duel her, prove her as a fake and get that hunk Bastion at the same time. With this plan in mind Princess Rose left to look for a partner.

"What is the situation with the Singles tournament, Jacob?" said Viper to the rest of the Evil Council, which included Etain, Jacob, Larke. Absent was Jaden, who remained in the hospital at present.
"Already won. Craig's gone insane with some unknown dragon card, from what I saw. My other competitors, such as Taniya and my sister will only battle him in an attempt to salvage him, and in the end, one of them will leave the tournament," replied Jacob, blunt as ever.
"Excellent, as for the Doubles, we need to get rid of Hayley and Bastion, then our way in the tournament will be clear, after all, they're our biggest threat," added Viper.
"How?" asked Larke.
"We need to eliminate them from the tournament we need two people other than you and Jaden to defeat them. A bit of mind control will do the trick. If they have issues with their majesties so much the better," said Viper.
"I know that last year there was this Princess, Princess Rose who challenged Hayley to a duel, not believing that she could be a princess and that a boy, Harrington Rosewood is holding a candle for Hayley. We could use them," said Jacob, showing zero emotion.
"Good work, go and find them and use this to control them," said Viper, handing the card, Mind Control to the boy.
He nodded and walked off, Etain scowled, "I don't know why you don't just let me kill them both, it would save us a lot of trouble," she said.
"Karādorein wants the Princess form his bride and he wants the prince to suffer for taking her away from him. You know the rules Etain, no killing," said Viper and she scowled.

Jacob walked around the island, trying to Princess Rose and Harrington, luck was on his side, he found Rose and used the Mind Control card on her before she could speak. He instructed her to follow him, finding out along the way that she was looking for a tag team partner, which fitted in perfectly for their plans. They soon found Harrington and Jacob use Mind Control on him too. He made them go register as a tag team and then had Rose sent a message to Hayley.

Hayley and Bastion were looking for opponents to duel, eager to get started on collecting the cards needed. They weren't having any luck though, there weren't as many TTs as there were single duelists.
"Hmm, no other TT is willing to duel us," commented Bastion after a tag team had run off upon spotting them.
"I think it's our reputation. We're two of the school top duelists and we saved the world last year, not to mention we're associated with Craig and there's a rumor going around about him and what happened yesterday," pointed out Hayley.
"You're correct but plain out running away isn't polite. How are we supposed to get anywhere in this tournament and find out what Viper and the others are up to if we can't get anyone to duel us?" asked Bastion.
"We'll duel you," said a voice and they turned to see Harrington and Rose standing next to each other with blank expressions on their faces. This instantly clued the couple in that something was wrong with them.
"What happened to you two?" asked Hayley.
"You are not a princess and I will prove it. I will take Bastion for myself and our Masters will be happy to have you eliminated," said Rose in a monotone voice and they were both shocked but didn't miss that Rose had lost her valley girl accent.
"You are not worthy of Hayley, Bastion, only I am. I will destroy you and she will be my girlfriend," said Harrington in the same monotone voice as Rose.
"No, Hayley shall be destroyed," said Rose.
"No, Bastion shall be destroyed," replied Harrington.
"Hayley."
"Bastion."
"Hayley."

The royal couple just stared at them and then turned to each other.
"I think it's safe to say that they're under some form of mind control in wanting to destroy us but they're also acting on their own desires to break us up and have us as their respective boyfriend/girlfriend," deduced Bastion and Hayley nodded in agreement.
"It looks like the only way we'll get rid of the brainwashing is by dueling them," she said and Bastion nodded.
"Hey, Rose, Harrington, let's duel. If you guys win then you get what you want and if we win you leave us and our relationship alone," said Bastion, activating his duel disk along with Hayley.
"Very well, but you shall not win," said Harrington as he and Rose also activated their disks.

This monster can attack you directly and each time this card inflicts Battle Damage to your Life Points, I can add one Service Ace from my Deck to my hand and you can draw one card from your Deck, now I end my turn with a face down," said Harrington. "It's my turn I summon T.A.D.P.O.L.E in defense mode and play one card facedown. I end my turn," said Rose. (T 0/0)
"My move, I draw. Hey darling, mind if I borrow Crystal Girl?" asked Bastion.
"Go ahead, my cards are yours," said Hayley.
"Right, thanks. I tribute my Long-Tailed Black Horse and Hayley's Crystal Girl to summon Daidara-Bocchi in attack mode!" said Bastion. (D-B 2900/2500) "He has an effect; he gains two hundred attack points for each Yokai monster on the field except himself. So now I'll play this Continuous spell card, Phantasmagoria, all monsters on the field become Yokai monsters!" said Bastion. (D-B 3300/2500)
"Alright, this is great!" cheered Hayley.
"Now Daidara-Bocchi, destroy Big Server!"
"I play my facedown, a trap called Receive Ace; I can activate this card only when my opponent declares an attack. I can negate the attack and inflict fifteen hundred points of damage to you. Then I send the top three cards of my deck to my graveyard," said Harrington in monotone.
"Gah!" yelled Bastion as he felt the pain.

"It's my turn, I summon Cyber Valkyrie in attack mode," said Hayley. (CV 1300/1500) "Her effect is that if she is attacked the attacking monster loses three hundred attack points during the damage step. "Destroy Rose's T.A.D.P.O.L.E!" cried Hayley.
"You know that when my T.A.D.P.O.L.E is destroyed in battle I can add any T.A.D.P.O.L.E's from my deck to my hand don't you?" asked Rose, adding the monsters to her hand.
"I know. I end my turn," said Hayley.
"My draw. I summon Mystical Shine Ball in attack mode and now I'll use my Big Server's ability, Bastion, I'm going to attack you directly!" said Harrington. (MSB 500/500)

"Now I can add one Service Ace from my deck to my hand and you get to draw one card," said Harrington. Bastion did so.
"Ok, now I'll play Service Ace, I chose one card from my hand and my opponent then decided if it's a trap, spell or monster. If you get it right then I send that card to the graveyard, If you get it wrong then you take fifteen hundred points of damage. Bastion, pick now. Tell me, is my chosen card a monster, spell or trap?" asked Harrington.
"Great, I hate guessing games," grumbled Bastion before deciding. "I chose monster."
"Wrong, it's a trap. Now you lose fifteen hundred life points," said Harrington.

"Bastion!" cried Hayley.
"Don't worry, I'll bounce back," he reassured her.
"I end my turn with a face-down," said Harrington.
"It's my turn. I play Graceful Charity, so now I draw three cards and discard two. Now I'll play Hand Destruction, Each player sends two cards to the graveyard and then we all draw two cards. Now I play Brain Control, by paying eight hundred life points I can take control of one of your monsters for one turn. I'll pick your Daidara-Bocchi,' said Rose.

"This is not how Rose plays!" said Bastion in alarm as his monster was taken from him.
"Right, she must have either upgraded her deck or she got those cards from the one who brainwashed her," said Hayley.
"I tribute this ugly thing to summon Des Frog in attack mode," said Rose. (DF 1900/0) "Now when Des Frog is tribute summoned I can special summon as many Des Frogs from my deck and had to the field as long as I have the same amount of T.A.D.P.O.L.E's in my grave said Rose and two more frogs came out.
"Not good," said Hayley.
"Right, for you that is. Now I'll play a spell, called Des Croaking which can only be activated when I have all three Des Frogs on my field. Now all the cards on my opponent's field are destroyed," smiled Rose but Bastion and Hayley weren't smiling as all their cards were sent to the graveyard.
"Next I'll play the Spell card Polymerization to fuse my sweet frogs together to create D.3.S. Frog. He gains five hundred attack points for each Treeborn Frog in my grave. I sent one there with Hand Destruction so now my prince is even stronger," said Rose. (D.3.S. F 2500/2000 – 3000/2000)
"Not good," muttered Hayley.
"Now D.3.S Frog attack Hayley's life points directly!" commanded Rose.
"ARGH!" screamed Hayley as she lost life points.
"Hayley!" Bastion yelled.
"I'm ok," she said, getting up, her BB glowing.

"I end my turn," said Rose.
"It's my move," said Bastion and place his hand on his deck ready to draw his card. 'Please, please be something I can use, please!' he thought and then he was somewhere else. He looked around and noticed that he was standing in front of a giant sculpture of a dragon. There was a plaque with the words 'The Wings of Abraxas. Only to be released by a great king' written on it. "Well, correct me if I'm wrong but I was a King and I'm hoping that I was great before my death. Now, how to free you?" and looking around he spotted two very familiar daggers, they were the same daggers he'd used in the final battle against Karādorein last year. "Brilliant," grinned Bastion and picked up the daggers. He then stabbed the statue with his daggers and the statue cracked and fell apart to reveal a wondrous dragon. Bastion then found himself back in the duel about to draw his card.
"Stop stalling!" yelled Harrington.
"Bastion?" asked Hayley, to no response.
This was weird, Bastion wasn't normally this quiet, as he just stared down at his Deck, Hayley looked too, and saw his Deck glowing. Bastion didn't look scared, just, unsure of what to do. Hayley remembered the last time something similar happened…

Craig stood still with his hand still raised in the air from his draw, he began laughing maniacally and slowly raised his head, and there was a significant level of change about his facial structure, at the back of his hair, he had three red stripes streaking down, identical to Bastion's yellow ones, his hair, normally scruffy, now stood on edge around his head and in his right eye, there was a thick, red mark to the right of his pupil. He stood, laughing, staring at the card he had drawn, his laugh alone striking fear into most of the younger students.

Hayley figured out by herself what happened, and turned to Bastion again, "If what's happened what I think has happened, then use it," she said.
"But…" began Bastion, remembering himself the events of Craig.
"If that happens again, then I've got a card in my hand that could take you out of the duel without touching your dragon," she said.
"You do?" asked Bastion.
"No…" she said, "But without that card, I fear we may not win, use it, I'm more than behind you," she smiled at Bastion who gained a lot more confidence from her pep talk.
Bastion grinned as he drew his card. "You are soon going to wish that I'd stalled a little longer. I play this very special card, The Wings of Abraxas!" and a yellow dragon with huge glittering yellow wings appeared on the field. He fuses with spells and I've got just the spell, I fuse Abraxas with Ghostly Reinforcements! Now he's become Ghostly Dragon of Spirits!" (GDS 3000/3000)
Hayley stared in awe at Bastion's new monster and then she grinned, this dragon would see Bastion's victory over Harrington and in her hand, she had the cards she needed to defeat Rose, especially if she got her dragon on her turn.
"Now, I'll play one of the cards I drew thanks to Rose's Hand Destruction, Mystical Space Typhoon! I'll use it to destroy your facedown card. Now Ghostly will destroy your Big Server!" said Bastion.
"No!" cried Harrington.

"Next up is his effect; I can remove up to three Yokai monsters from my grave and deal five hundred points of damage to you for each Yokai monster removed from play. I remove my Log-Tailed Black Horse, Daidara-Bocchi and Gozuki, who was also sent to my grave with Hand Destruction. So that's fifteen hundred points of damage to you. I win Harrington," smirked Bastion.
"NO!" yelled Harrington as he lost his duel and collapsed from his BB draining his energy.

"Nice one Bastion, a One Turn Kill," said Hayley, impressed.
Thank you," said Bastion, "Now beat Rose."
"You know I will," smiled Hayley and placed her hand on her deck. 'I need a card that will help my will this duel, I need to win and free Rose from the mind control she's under.' Suddenly, she wasn't in the duel anymore. Like Bastion and Craig before her she was standing in front of a giant dragon sculpture. There was a plaque with the words, 'The Heart of Kalseru. Only to be released by a pure-hearted Queen,' was written on it. "Well, if I'm here then I must be pure-hearted. Now, how to release her," she wondered and then spotted the bow and arrow in the corner, the same ones she'd used in the final battle against Karādorein. "Bingo," she said and drew back the bow, letting the arrow fly and pierce the sculpture. It cracked and Hayley heard a roar and then she was back at the duel, she smiled and drew her card, it was the dragon.
"Like, what's taking you so long?" asked Rose.
"Nothing, ok Rose, pay attention. I play Monster Reborn to bring back my Crystal Girl in attack mode," said Hayley. (CG 200/100) "Next I'll play my spell card, Ice Doll Mirror, now my doll can become one monster on my field and I chose Crystal Girl," said Hayley and a second Crystal Girl was formed out of the ice. "Now I play another spell, Premature Burial. I pay eight hundred life points and now I can special summon a monster from my grave. I'll choose the monster I discarded thanks to Hand Destruction, my Frost Tiger!" said Hayley. (FT 1900/1000) "Now I'll sacrifice all three of my monsters to summon Ice Queen." (IQ 2900/2100)

"Just wait. Now I play, The Heart of Kalseru!" A beautiful pink, feminine dragon appeared on the field, there was a glowing heart on her chest. "She can fuse with monsters so I fuse Kalseru and my Ice Queen to create Stormella, Dragon Queen of Ice!" (SDQI 3000/1500) "She has an effect; she gains five hundred attack points for each water type monster in my grave. I count Ice Queen, Frost Tiger and Crystal Girl, fifteen hundred extra attack points," said Hayley. (SDQI 3000/1500 – 4500/1500) "Stormella, attack!"
"NO, that hurts!" cried Rose.

"Not for long, Stormella's next effect, I can send one card in my hand until I run out of cards to my graveyard she can attack you for six hundred points for each card, so here's number one," said Hayley.

"It's no longer cold," said Hayley and sighed as the last hologram disappeared.
"Are you alright Hayley?" asked Bastion.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Should we take their white cards or what?" asked Hayley.
"Yes, you should," said a voice and they turned to see Taniya walking towards them.
"Taniya," said Bastion.
"Sister? I don't understand?"
"It's simple, they challenged you and Bastion and passed out, meaning that you won and got their white cards. Unfortunately they pushed themselves so hard during the duel they lost the memory of them dueling you, luckily I was there to witness that the duel happened," said Taniya.
"Nice excuse Taniya," said Bastion, understanding the need to for the small lie. Technically it wasn't a even lie. Technically. He supposed that the stronger duelists with more dueling spirit would use that same excuse to duel easy opponents. Even if this hadn't been a tournament duel and they hadn't been brainwashed he and Hayley still would have won. He bent down and took the two cards from Rose and Harrington.
"So, how have you been doing in the tournament Taniya?" asked Hayley.
"I've had literally zero time I'm afraid, what with Craig and all, I've only duelled one student so far so I'm on two cards. If time's running out though, I'm more than confident I can do it in time," said Taniya with a smile.
"Great, I'm sure you'll be fine," said Bastion.
"We only need one more duel now, we have four cards, just two more, so after we take Harrington and Rose to the hospital wing let's go and find another tag team and win our final cards," said Hayley eagerly.
"That sounds like a plan," agreed Bastion and picked up Harrington and Taniya picked up Rose and they went to the infirmary which was already quite full.
"This is bad," said Bastion quietly, putting Harrington on the nearest bed. Taniya and Hayley nodded in agreement, Taniya putting Rose down on the bed next to Harrington.
"Come on," said Taniya, leading the two outside.
"Let's spilt up and tell me if you see Craig. If anyone can duel that kid back to his senses it's me. I'm the only one strong enough to do it. I may not have a dragon of my own but I don't need one. Just make sure that Flo is also there, she can help bring Craig back, ok?" asked Taniya. The two Ra's nodded and then went off to find another duel.

"Well, that was a complete waste of time and they got two cards. Just one more duel for them and they can enter the semi finals," complained Larke.
"Shut up, I'd rather not face those two in the semi-finals but we may as well resign ourselves to it, they can't be beaten," said Jacob.
"Leave them and Taniya alone for now and go after the ones called Alexis and Chazz, they seem to be drifting from the group, afraid of their destinies," said Viper.
"What about the blue shrimp and dino boy or any of their other friends?" asked Etain.
"Leave them, they could be useful later and besides we want a bit of a challenge in the semi-finals don't we?" and Viper grinned like a shark and so did the others.
Trouble was brewing for Duel Academy and the big question was, would everyone get out of it alive?
