Hey guys! So, I am finally back with an update and I have decided not to go a couple of centuries forward. I want them to work out in this time period and I intend for that to happen. Hopefully it will! Now, please do enjoy :)

That evening, Caroline was escorted back to the cottage and as soon as she entered, her family surrounded her.

"Caroline, what has happened? Are you okay? Is the baby okay?" Her mother asked, the worry evident in her gentle voice as she led her to the chair.

"Mama, I'll be okay eventually." Caroline reassured. "But- I los- lost the baby." She admitted and tears quickly gathered in her eyes.

"What?" Liz asked as her jaw dropped slightly and she watched her daughter with teary eyes.

"It was not meant to be, mama. I'm okay. Everything will be okay, I promise."

"It was the prince's fault wasn't it?" Stefan croaked from the cot as his hands clenched into fists.

"I do not wish to speak of him ever again. Please, let's not mention him. I just want to forget everything that has happened these past weeks."

"I'll kill him." Damon said as he clenched his hands into fists.

"No," Caroline shook her head. "The lord didn't wish me to bear his child and now I won't. It will be okay. We can all go back to our lives."

"What lives? We are slaves, Care. We'll never be anything else." Stefan stated as his hands clenched tighter still.

"I refuse to believe that." Caroline announced as she went over to her cot and sat down, feeling exhausted. "One day, we will be free and we will have a place to call our own. Perhaps that day is not so far off."

"My love," Liz said as she put her arm around her shoulder and gathered her close to her chest. "You were always so strong." The older woman said, the love evident in her eyes.

"And I intend to remain strong. I made a mistake, but I refuse to allow that mistake to define me."

"Good," her family said and at that moment Caroline felt truly powerful. She had her family's love no matter what words her brothers had thrown at her before. At the end of the day, they were all connected and she couldn't wait for the day that they would be free. And they would be… She could feel it.

Klaus entered the throne room and approached his father and mother. They sat on their thrones and his betrothed stood before them with her parents by her side.

His betrothed was beautiful, he thought. But there was absolutely nobody as beautiful as his Caroline. Caroline was the woman he loved and he refused to let her go.

He knew that he was too blame for all the bad that has happened to her and he realized that she may never forgive him for all that he had done.

However, he would try his hardest to win her back.

No matter what he had to do…

"You have finally joined us, Niklaus." His father said as he looked at him as though he wasn't worth the dirt on the bottom of his royal boots.

"I have," he answered as he bowed.

"Do you wish to explain what it is that held you?" Mikael asked, glaring at him.

"No, your majesty. It is not of any interest to you." He responded try to sound respectful even though he didn't have the patience to be in his father's company.

"If you're certain," he shrugged. "Now, we were all talking and decided to move the wedding up."

"I beg your pardon?" Klaus said, the shock evident in his voice.

"We're thinking the ceremony should be held at the end of the week."

"Week? Why?" Klaus questioned as his eyes widened.

"There are reasons, but none that we shall talk about right now. So, do take your lovely wife-to-be for a stroll."

"No," Klaus said, shaking his head. Did Mikael truly believe that Klaus would do what he was asked to do?

"No? Whatever do you mean?" Mikael asked as his face turned an angry red.

"I will not be marrying her, your majesty." He announced. "I refuse." He added.

"You don't have a say in the matter though." Mikael replied, a sardonic grin on his lips.

"Perhaps not, but I'll not be forced to do anything that I do not want to." Klaus shot back as he crossed his arms over his chest.

"My queen, do you mind escorting our royal guests to the parlor for refreshments? I find I have much to talk about with my son."

"Of course, your majesty." Esther said as she stood up and curtsied before she shuffled the guests out of the throne room.

As soon as they were gone, Mikael stood up and pointed his cane at Klaus.

"Explain yourself before I lose my patience and run you through." He said, his voice dangerously low.

"There is nothing to explain. I shall not marry her or anybody for that matter."

"You may be my son, but don't think for a second that you will get out of this situation without some retaliation."

"I do not expect less from you, your majesty. Do what you must, but my answer is final." He said before he turned on his heel and left.

"It's that slave girl, isn't it? You wish to make an honest woman out of her."

"This has nothing to do with her. She means nothing to me."

"Was she really that good in bed? I doubt it. After all, I did have a taste." Mikael said as a smirk appeared on his lips.

Klaus's jaw clenched and in that moment he wanted to smack that disgusting smirk from the pharaoh's lips. He couldn't believe that the blood flowing through his veins was related to the man that sat before him. The pharaoh looked all high and mighty, but Klaus simply couldn't wait for the day that he was taken down a notch or ten…

"As I said before, she means nothing to me and this has nothing to do with her." Klaus lied through his teeth trying to keep his anger under control.

"Well it doesn't matter now. I won't touch her. She isn't worth it anyway. But you will be marrying your betrothed whether you like it or not. Otherwise, I'll disown you, plain and simple."

"You will truly force me to go through with this marriage even though I barely know the girl?"

"Yes, yes I will. Everything that you have is because of me. Every comfort, every tasty morsel of food, absolutely everything. Go against me and I'll have to take some drastic measures."

"Then do you worst, dear papa. I will not marry her. If you wish to throw me out then I shall only be grateful."

"You think I'll send you to one of my other estates, don't you? Well, you're wrong dear son. Since you are so fascinated with the ilk of those slaves, you shall join them and be treated as they are treated."

The next morning, Caroline made her way over to the well and began her work. Her mother stood by her side and just as they were starting, there was gasps among the other people.

Both women looked in that direction with confusion and then they saw a man, picking up bricks and dirtying his non callused hands.

"Oh my god," Caroline said, the shock evident in her voice.

The guard that has made it his mission to torment her was whipping the prince. The bloody prince of Egypt!

Caroline was about to move into Klaus's direction, but her mother's hand stayed her.

"Mama, let me go." Caroline said looking at her angrily.

"Leave him be, my love. He hurt you and now it is time he feel that pain."

"He's a prince, mama. They cannot do that to him."

"If it was the pharaohs choice then they can, my dear. Let him feel what our ancestors have felt these past centuries. Perhaps then there will be some change."

"But mama, he is not cut out for life out in the fields. How will he survive when he has been given everything thus far on a silver platter? I must put a stop to this."

"Stop, Caroline. If the guard sees you, you know what he will do to you. It matters not that you are no longer in the possession of your maidenhead, but I shall not have those guards going around and forcing you to do what you do not want to do. Stop. Look away. We just get back to work."

"But," Caroline said, but her mother held up a finger.

"Enough, Caroline. Get back to work."

With a sad sigh, the blonde did as her mother bid her to do and looked away from him.

Klaus felt the strike of the whip on his back and he forced himself to bite his tongue. He would not give these savages the pleasure of knowing that he was in pain.

Klaus did not regret saying what he did to his father. Enough was enough and if he had to live out his days as a slave then he would. At least out here he could breathe. Inside the palace and under his father's thumb he felt as though he was slowly drowning.

The one thing that he looked forward to was seeing Caroline again. He knew that he could no longer protect her from the guards because he had no sway, but he'd be damned if he allowed Caroline or any of the other girls to be forced by the arrogant guards.

It was time for a change and he was going to make sure that before his last breath, the Israelites were set free. After being captive for centuries, they deserved freedom. They deserved to feel as though they were safe and that nothing would happen to them. They deserved a land that they could call their own and they sure as bloody hell deserved to live a life filled with happiness and joy, not sorrow and constant loss.

"How's that feel, slave? Ready to cry out for your papa's help?" Tyler said aloud as he grinned down at Klaus with a bloodied whip in his hand.

"Is that all you got?" Klaus asked, challenging him with his eyes. It was time for Tyler Lockwood to meet his end, Klaus realized. How that would come about, he would have to think about it.

Perhaps he would have a chance to see his siblings and then he would speak to them.

"Certainly not, slave. But I think I shall give you a breather. Go and start gathering the bricks."

"And if I don't? What are you going to do? Kill me? A prince?" Klaus asked even though he did not wish to use his title.

"I'm sure your father will only be relieved when he finds out of your death. You're a disappointment to him. You're too much of a dreamer to be a prince."

"Luckily, my dreams come true. Feel free to stick around and see them unfold, little guard. You may hold the power at the moment, but rest assured, I'll have it back in no time."

"Sure," Tyler said before he spat on him and walked away.

Klaus took his sleeve and wiped the saliva off of his jaw before a growl escaped his lips.

He'd get back at the damned guard, but right now he had more important matters to attend to. First, he had to find Caroline and he had to apologize to her, but he couldn't do it yet. Not with this father's cronies watching.

After all, the last thing he wanted to do was put his father's eye on Caroline. He knew that he would use her to get to him and he refused to allow that to happen. Not after everything Caroline had suffered at his hands.

For now, he would begin his work and that night when the Israelites were allowed to go back to their cottages, he would stop by Caroline's home.

He only hoped that she would hear him through and not kick him out on his arse the second she would lay her beautiful bright blue eyes on him.

There you have it, my dears! So, were you expecting that or no? Honestly, I didn't even know I was going to go in this direction, but here it is. I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter and if you didn't, I'm sorry to hear that. This fanfic is soon coming to a close and I hope to see you all at the end.
