Chapter 31: Fall of the Skies
With renewed determination Yami Yugi stood tall once more, hand poised over his cards, "Are you ready? It's my turn!" drawing and with scarcely a glance he set his card, "I summon Big Shield Gardna!"
/Big Shield Gardna: Defense:2600 Attack: 100/
Malik began laughing amusedly, eyes laden sneeringly, "Keh-heh, And when you do Osiris automatically attacks!" Even as he spoke the crimson god's second mouth opened wide and expelled a burst of lightning at the shielded warrior.
Yami however watched undauntedly, "Gardna's defense is higher than 2000! He's safe!" he declared just as a blinding flash erupted before him. When the light returned to normal his warrior was very much still standing, though notably damaged barely holding his heavily battered shield aloft.
/Big Shield Gardna: Defense:2600 600/
Maintaining his recomposed poker face, Yami once more looked to his hand, 'I can't keep hiding though… but spells and traps won't work on it…How can I defeat a monster's attack that's infinite…' In that moment Yami felt a shock of realization, 'Infinite?'
Still watching from the sidelines virtually on the edge of his seat, Ryou continued to watch the still precarious situation, gripping the rail as the crimson dragon once more attacked. A relaxed breath was only fleeting upon the realization the guarding warrior survived the assault, but just barely… He felt himself perk as Yami suddenly looked to him, a smirk plainly on his face as he nodded.
Ryou felt a smile blossom on his face and nodded in return, 'He got it!' he thought excitedly. A huff was his yami's response as Akefia too noted the look.
"Well look at that…" he commented wryly as he shifted in his golden prison, "Now what does he plan to do about it I wonder?"
Ryou felt his smile wilt suddenly. Though the idea was there, Akefia had a point, 'Not sure…' he thought slowly. He swallowed back his resurfacing worry as Yami turned his eyes back to his opponent.
Standing opposite of Yami, Malik's eyes hardened as he watched the exchange, 'What is he up too?' he thought casting the Ring Bearer a glance. What had passed between them? Almost immediately he quashed his thoughts with a huff, 'No matter.' He thought roughly. What did it matter in the face of a God? With that Malik puppeteered Strings into drawing, the simple action feeding his chapion's strength.
/Osiris: Attack:9000 10,000/
"Osiris attack! Big Shield Gardna dies!" Malik ordered, a sneer of keen pleasure settling haughtily on his face as the once mighty warrior was seered beyond cinders, leaving Yami's field bare.
Shielding himself from the ensuing debris, Yami recomposed himself and looked back to Malik, "My turn." With that he poised above his cards only a moment and drew. Immediately he smirked broadly and looked back to his opponent, "I win Malik."
Malik's cocky grin died away almost instantly and was replaced with confusion, "What?" recomposing himself he scoffed, "And how do you plan to pull yourself out of your grave in one turn? Have you lost your mind?" He challenged. His response was a persisting smirk as Yami played his card face down.
"We'll see." Yami said evenly, his simple words and evaporated prior hesitations making Malik twitch irately. Something about his demeanor urging a seed of doubt.
'Could he-No. He's lying! It's not possible for him to have found a way out of my trap!' Malik thought heatedly to himself as Yami continued his move.
"I play Monster Reborn! I bring back Buster Blader! Rise from the grave mighty dragon slayer!" Yami commanded, a bright and glorious light giving rise to the purple clad knight, arms crossed as if in mocking challenge.
Malik simply spat a partial laugh, "Keh! So you're bringing him back to defend you then be destroyed again? That'll only save you for a turn!" he mocked.
"Did I say defense mode?" Yami inquired in return mock, grinning broadly, "Wrong Malik! Buster Blader is ready to attack! I have the card that'll turn your combo against you Malik!"
Malik's gaze turned to shock at the bold declaration, 'What?! Does he really think his puny knight can beat my god!?' he growled in pure annoyance at the sheer insolence before dashing it and once more adorning his smirk, "Have you forgotten my card of safe return? It activates when you bring back a monster as well!" As if to remind him of this point Stings drew thee more cards, Osiris growing yet stronger in response.
/Osiris: Attack:10,000 13,000/
"Also, Osiris' special ability activates!" Malik declared firmly, Osiris once more reigning down lightning onto the defiant knight, who although weakened survives for a second time, "Your Knight lives. But his power is reduced to 1100. Still willing to attack? You can switch him to defense if you like~." He offered coyly awaiting for a break in the Spirit's bravado.
Yami however did no such thing and remained grinning confidently, "No thanks. Buster Blader will attack!"
Malik watched on with a growl, 'What are you up to?' he then snorted, 'Heh, oh well. His funeral!'
"Go Buster Blader! Fight the Sky Dragon!" Yami commanded, the battered knight immediately complying rushing the beast before him. Before the attack could land however, a blur of blue rushed out and into the Knight's path taking the attack instead.
Malik burst into laughter at this, "Kah-Hah-Ha! Did you forget!? Revival Jam is Osiris' immortal shield! Not that you could hurt him anyway!" he jeered.
"I didn't forget. I was planning for it Malik!" Yami interjected, once more drawing Malik's gaze, "Here's my key card! Brain Control!"
After only a moment of staring, Malik's faltering smirk regained full amusement at the declaration and broke against his fully amused laughter, "KAH-HAH-HAH-HAH! Sorry 'Yugi'," he said gazing at his opponent in the manner one would to a child, though the grin was purely malicious, "But that won't work on a god! Osiris, Attack Buster Blader! This is the end!"
"Who said I was using it on Osiris… Malik?" Yami inquired, effectively stalling Malik's jeer into a look of confusion, "The monster I took control of was…" Malik's eyes widened in surprise as the blue goopy remains of his monster recongealed… on Yami's side of the field! Now formed Yami grinned, "Revival Jam is now with me!" He then pointed to Malik almost commandingly, "A monster came back from the grave Malik. Draw your cards."
Malik felt his brow crease as he looked at him suspiciously, but inwardly maintained his grin as Strings drew his cards, 'Keh-heh. Fine. You're only making Osiris stronger…'
/Osiris: Attack: 13,000 16,000/
Just as Malik was about to make another comment, Yami smirked at him knowingly, "That also triggers Osiris' automatic attack ability~." On cue, Osiris' maw opened and spat a destructive bolt at the little blue monster, immediately exploding its form to bits. The effect fleeting as it once more reformed, "Now draw again Malik!"
The entirety of Malik's initial gleeful mocking died away instantly, eyes widening in sudden fury as no sooner had Strings finished drawing, Osiris fired at the blue monster yet again, 'SHIT! He got me stuck in an….Infinite loop!'
Malik could only watch with gritted teeth as the process repeated over and over, his mighty dragon growing stronger and stronger until, in almost no time at all, his puppet no longer had cards to draw. He could only glare out heatedly as Yami, whose eyes had been closed expectantly throughout the loop spoke up, "When a player has no more cards to draw, they lose." He opened his eyes and looked at him squarely and confidently, "THAT'S the limit of your god!"
With that the almighty Osiris faded away from the field, "I win!"
Author's Note: Hey guys, sorry for the short chapter, but me and Renagade felt it would be a good transitional. Just wrap up this duel recap and move on. Things will be getting good again, there won't be any duel recaps for a while now. If I recall correctly.
Oh. And I'd just like to ask. Don't leave reviews on me or Renagade's other fics demanding for us to hurry up with another chapter for this. It's incredibly rude, and both me and Renagade have lives and projects outside of this. We're really happy people are enjoying this but please be patience patient and wait.
