Chapter Eight: Wave After Wave
The music was a lot louder inside than it was outside, but I could feel the current of the rhythm move into my body and make me want to move with it. I looked up at Edward whose eyes were trained on my face.
"This is a lot bigger than it was the other night," I said smiling at all of the new faces. There were more staff people here than there was the other night, and a lot more dancing than before. Edward shrugged and smiled.
"It's a Friday, Bella. They're excited to have a little time to themselves," Edward reminded that although staff who waited tables and made food didn't get the day off, they did get to sleep in. Saturdays and Sundays were seen as leisure days and that meant that you didn't have structured lessons unless otherwise arranged, and it just so happened that Alice had one arranged with Jasper, Rosalie had one arranged with Emmett, and I had one arranged with Edward.
"Oh, right," I shyly blushed and pushed my hair behind my ear. I watched as Rosalie and Emmett went straight for the spiked punch, and Alice and Jasper went to the dance floor. Jasper was tall and lanky, but also built lean. He was just as graceful as Alice, if not more, and it was amazing how well they fit together on the dance floor.
"Shall we?" Edward held out his hand for the dance floor, I took it gratefully. Edward's hands positioned me in the same dirty way they did the other night. This style of dancing wasn't one that he would likely teach me in one of our classes. I felt his hands touch my hips familiarly.
"Just like this afternoon," he breathed into my ear, I got chills up my back and looked into his eyes. They were no longer bright green but more of a forest green. I wanted to kiss his full lips and dive into his arms fully. But I blushed instead of doing any of those things and looked into his eyes deeply. "I hope it was okay this afternoon," his lips were below my earlobe and they bit lightly. I moaned softly and nodded my head.
"I told you it was," I said quietly.
"Can I do it again?" Edward asked pulling away from me. I gasped but I knew the song was over and he wanted an answer that wouldn't be completely suspicious.
"I…I" I paused, I didn't know what to say. Of course I wanted his skilled fingers inside of me again, of course I wanted to feel his lips lap up every bit of me, but I found myself with more than just a desire for self gratification. I wanted to pleasure him, too. "Only if I can reciprocate." I whispered, his eyes widened, and a smile formed on his crooked mouth.
"Only if you want to," Edward nodded his head, his eyes now heavily hooded with desire.
"I do," I said eagerly. Edward laughed and kissed my cheek.
"Let's get a drink, you look parched," Edward smiled down at me and escorted me to the punch bowl where Rosalie and Emmett looked as though they were having a staring contest.
"Hey," Jasper and Alice joined us, but it was Jasper who spoke. "Newton is here," Jasper's voice had an edge to it. Edward shrugged his shoulders and Emmett squared his.
"Let him try and make a scene because they're here. I'll tell everyone what he did to Tanya and what he's done to plenty of other girls along the way," Edward said confidently. His confidence was something that wasn't learned, I could tell that Edward was wise beyond his years, and he knew that Mike wouldn't do something, his voice sounded like he was almost daring Mike to do something. Emmett nodded his head in agreement with Edward, and Jasper just looked away nervously.
"He seems hostile," Jasper noted quietly.
"Jazz, some on, he's not going to start something. Especially with me here," Emmett boasted as he puffed his chest out proudly.
"He's got a point," Alice chirped.
"You don't know Mike," Edward butt in, "Jazz just knows how pretentious he is. But I promise Jazz, if Mike tries anything I'll shut him up," Edward said proudly.
Just on que, Mike began to walk over to us, Jessica Stanley on his arm. They were obviously already intoxicated and sloppy in their foot work. Jessica looked as though she was only on Mike's arm to steady her, she leaned off to the right side and her body swayed without the tempo of the music to guide her.
"Cullen," Mike slurred, his pale blue eyes looking at me.
"Newton," Edward said in a clipped voice as he held my hand close. "You look as though you've had all the punch," Edward noted lightly.
"Whattzit to ya?" Mike shrugged, "my old man don't care."
"It's nothing to me," Edward shrugged. "Just an observation," he finished.
"I could make a few observations myself." Mike got closer to us, pulling a very clumsy Jessica along with him.
"Then make one," Edward dared, his green eyes narrowing and his body language giving off hostile waves.
"Gentlemen, let's not do this. I'm sure your fathers would both be slightly embarrassed at your actions if this were to turn into a famous brawl," Jasper intervened. Jasper wasn't afraid of Mike; he wasn't trying to protect Edward. He was afraid of what Edward would do to Mike. He was protecting Mike.
"Watch it, Cullen," Mike said before he drunkenly turned around and smiled at Jessica. "LET'S PARTY!" Mike screamed "WHOOOOOOO!"
I let go of a breath I wasn't aware I was holding and looked at Edward who still had his jaw locked and his body language still read tense. Jasper pushed the cup up to Edward's lips and then looked back to Alice who was looking to Jasper in awe and admiration. Edward noticed my eyes trained on him and his jaw slowly relaxed, his eyes cleared of any anger and a crooked smile played on his lips.
"I apologize, that was rude of me," Edward said softly.
"Don't be, you were just defending us," I said smiling up at him and he looked down at me biting his full lip curiously.
"I don't know if I was doing just that, but I'll take the credit you're giving." Edward laughed and downed his first cup of punch. I looked at my still full cup and shrugged as I began to drink. The punch burned my throat more than the last time and it made my whole stomach feel warm. The punch didn't taste much like fruit punch at all; it tasted more of bitter vodka than anything else. I coughed and looked to Rose who was obviously on her second cup.
"This is stronger tonight," I noted looking at Edward, he laughed and shrugged.
"Weekend," he reminded lightly as his smile reached is eyes. A slow song came on and he looked at me, downing his second cup of punch. "More?" He asked attentively. I nodded my head as he filled my cup up a second time and his a third time.
After a while Edward's arms never left my sides. We danced to almost every song, even doing a rough chacha on the dance floor and I felt graceful for the first time in my life. Alice and Rosalie joined us for the most part dancing different dances that Jasper and Emmett taught them along the way. Rosalie's body swayed and her eyes were glossed over. Alice's giggles were infectious and she was infecting mainly Jasper. Their lips were often either giggling or they were kissing each other tenderly like they'd found their soulmate. Edward's lips lingered on the hollow of my neck or they'd travel to below my ear, but he'd never kiss my lips fully. He looked as though he wanted to, though. Or perhaps that was just my desires showing in his face, either way a kiss on the lips was not met on the dance floor.
Rosalie looked at her watch for what seemed to be the first time since dinner and she groaned as she downed her fifth cup of punch. Alice looked at hers and did the same. I sighed, and I knew it was a que, it was time for us to go back to the cabin before our parents got suspicious.
"I have to go," I grumbled handing a half full cup to Edward. He took it and drank the remnants and nodded his head. "Thank you for such a wonderful night, it was so fun," I sighed dreamily at him. His intoxicated eyes zeroed in on my face and he smiled softly.
"It was my pleasure, Bella," Edward tucked a piece of my hair away from my face and behind my ear. "I really like you," He sighed as his breath fanned across my face. A smell of vodka, fruit, and Edward filled my nostrils. I could feel the vodka weighing heavy on me as well, but I knew Edward had more than I did.
"Come on Bella," Rosalie called from the entrance; Rosalie, Alice, Jasper, and Emmett were already waiting on us. I nodded my head and pulled a very drunk Edward along with me. Walking down the clay and stone path with Edward's arms around my waist, his breath in my ear and his fingers dancing along my rib cage was almost as intoxicating as the Vodka was… almost. As Rosalie, myself, and Alice stopped at the bottom we turned to our dates, oblivious to one another.
"Thanks for the fun time tonight," I said blushing, my eyes down cast at his shiny shoes. His hand brought my face up and made my eyes meet his, he smiled.
"It was my pleasure, Bella, as I said before." He reminded me gently. "I hope that you'll come more often than once and a while," he smiled his crooked smile. "If only just to see me more."
I swallowed hard, the heat from the vodka rose in my throat and I knew that I was beginning to feel sick due to my nerves rather than the vodka, although it wasn't really helping at the moment either.
"Of course I will," I blurted out eagerly. Edward's eyes light up and his fingers cupped my chin attentively. He looked down into my eyes as though to ask permission before he closed the distance between us. His full lips on mine were a feeling that sent me soaring into the skies. His taste was that of vodka, punch, and Edward and it was every bit as intoxicating as any alcohol would be. I found that I was throwing myself into the kiss, my arms wrapped around the nape of his neck, my finger tips twisting his hair at the roots. Edward groaned into my mouth and pulled away lightly.
"Until tomorrow," Edward smiled at me, his breath hitched and his voice soft with careful words as to not upset me by his pulling away prematurely. Or maybe I was getting too intense for just a kiss goodnight. Perhaps it wouldn't have been just a kiss goodnight if he hadn't stopped it. I blushed and nodded my head in agreement. I turned my heel without grace, but without falling flat on my face to see Rosalie and Alice looking at me with their intoxicated smiles and droopy eyes.
"Let's get home before our parents realize we lied," I cringed at the thought of my father finding out that I had lied to him for probably the third time of my life, not to mention the third time this summer, and I felt like a whole new person. I wasn't sure if this new person was someone that I should be, but I also knew that my time of being completely truthful was long gone by now, and the truth telling days were those for kids- not maturing woman who had desires and needs.
"Bella you're becoming such a rebel!" Alice giggled as she slung her tiny arm around my shoulders, I laughed and slightly cringed.
"I guess I have been rubbing off on you after all," Rosalie boasted as she pretended to buff her fingernails on her dress. I laughed and shrugged my shoulders.
"I feel like these little lies are worth it, or at least they will be. I never thought I'd have so much fun here, and I thought it was going to be a drag like last year was to me, but now I feel free and I feel like this is the vacation teenagers like us are meant to have. We aren't supposed to be held up in some cabin learning how to throw pottery or the correct way to serve a birdie at badminton." I paused letting what I had said sink in.
"Finally!" Rosalie and Alice said in unison smiling at each other.
"Finally what?" I asked as I narrowed my sleepy eyes at them.
"Finally you're acting like a true teenager and not some old biddy off the street," Rosalie laughed at me
"I've always felt this way," I shrugged to myself. Which was true, I've always felt like Rose, Alice, and I were treated like young adults already and it bugged me. I wanted to be like all of the other teenagers out there, getting into the occasional trouble, and kissing boys without a second thought. I wanted to be young and reckless, even if it was just for a month or two before college.
"Jasper gave me a small bottle of aspirin for tomorrow. He told me that we need to drink at least a glass of water before sleeping so we are all ready for our full day of lessons tomorrow," Alice chirped as she handed out two tablets of aspirin each.
"This should help those darn hang overs," Rosalie said smiling down at her palm. We walked back to our cabins, sneaking into our rooms and grabbing a glass and filling them with water. I downed two glasses just to be sure, and Rosalie did the same. "The hang over will be worse than this mornings if I don't," Rosalie nodded her head. That punch was a lot stronger than the other nights, and I knew I'd be in a world of hurt if I didn't end up doing the same thing as her.
That night I slept dreamlessly, or at least I think it was. I woke up with a mild headache and took the large glass of water beside Rosalie and my bed and downed the aspirin beside my glass. Rosalie looked completely knocked out, but I knew that Mom would be at the door in ten minutes. I cleared my throat which felt raw with the morning moisture.
"Rose, wake up," I called over gently Rosalie didn't stir. I sat up and felt a head rush, the blood causing black spots in my vision. I groaned and held the side of my head with one hand as the other hand went to shake Rosalie's shoulder. "Rosalie come on, you need to get some water and aspirin in you before mom comes." Rosalie's blue eye popped open and looked at me with hate.
"Isabella…" She groaned holding her head. "My head hurts," she finished like a child.
"I know, take your aspirin and drink your water," I held her glass to her. Rosalie sighed and sat up in her bed taking the glass and reaching for her aspirin.
"You know breakfast is an hour later on the weekends than it is during the week, right?" Rosalie asked with one eye closed.
"No, I didn't…" I grumbled. "Well, this way we will definitely be without hang overs. I'm going to go sneak over and make sure Alice does the same." I said as I finished my water and put on sandals.
I walked to the door and listened. I could hear my dad's soft snoring, which meant him and my mother were still asleep. I sighed with relief and tip toed out of our cabin and walked ten feet next door to the Brandon's cabin. While Mr. and Mrs. Brandon didn't snore, I could tell they were still asleep by how dark their cabin appeared. Mrs. Brandon detested any light when she slept. I crept into Alice's cabin and saw her small frame asleep in her big bed. She still had her dress on, and her shoes were thrown carelessly on the floor next to her bed.
"Allie," I called quietly. She jumped up but quickly grasped her head. Beside her bed was a glass of water that was full and two tablets along with the bottle Jasper had given her. "Take your aspirin and drink your water, then go back to sleep." I whispered. Alice nodded her head wordlessly and did as I told her. She slumped back into her bed and I tip toed out of her room quietly.
I was too keyed up to go back to sleep, so I decided to drink another glass of water and perch on my bed as Rosalie slept calmly. I sighed and walked over to my dresser. I could pick out my outfit for today, at least. I picked out a pair of jean shorts and a cute pink blouse. I hoped that the pink wouldn't make me look washed out, I was still slightly pale from the lack of sun. But whenever you read as much as I did, it wasn't hard to understand why. I would read outside, but I would read in the shade. I would lay out side and do outside activities, but I'd have a sun hat. It was just too easy to damage my skin.
After a half hour I heard mom rap on the door, I wrapped myself in a towel and opened the door. My mother's eyes were wide with surprise.
"Isabella, why on earth are you awake so early?" She looked at me up and down, her blue eyes narrowed on my wet hair and wet body.
"I forgot breakfast was later on the weekends," I shrugged my shoulders smiling sheepishly.
"Oh, well then. At least you'll be out of Rosalie's way when she's good and ready," Renee rolled her eyes and laughed. "Wake up your sister dear." Mom finished as she turned back to her and dad's room.
"Sure thing," I whispered after her.
I turned to the bed behind me where Rosalie was sleeping, her mouth agape, and her arms spread wide like she was going to accept a hug from her huge Emmett. Her hair looked like a rats nest, her skin was shiny with oil and her mascara was running. I was suddenly happy that I hadn't gone back to sleep and already showered. She'd need a long shower to get rid of all of that. I barely had a dull ache in the back.
"Rose, come on." I pushed her arm roughly. Rosalie grumbled something incoherently and rolled over, her left arm slung over her eyes. "Rose, come on!" I pushed her more forcefully. Rosalie groaned and rolled to the edge of the bed and planted her feet on the floor, still slumped over the bed.
"My headache is gone," She mumbled into her pillow.
"Good, now go get your stinky butt in the shower!" I said clapping my hands together twice. Rosalie sighed and stood up, walking over to the bathroom and began stripping before she closed the door behind her.
"Today is going to be a long day," I sighed shaking my head to myself as I hear Rosalie groan as the hot water hit her body.
