Disclaimer: In this economy I'm holding on to my handful of possessions with a vice grip. Tragically NCIS is not one of those possessions. It is the sole property of the creators, studio, writers, producers, directors, etc. Lucky them….
I consider myself lucky to be able to take them out to play for a while.

A/N: I cannot say enough THANK YOUS to everyone that is still reading my old work & reviewing. I've also been in receipt of wonderful PMs just checking in and seeing how I'm doing. Real life is as interesting as ever. As much as I enjoy and miss it my writing (FF and personal) had to take a back seat. It's been a "minute"… So, sit back, suspend belief and enjoy it as the fiction it's meant to be.

McGee had just returned from getting all of his post bite shots and was sitting at his computer when Gibbs walked into the bullpen with Tony and Ziva. He jumped up readying himself to report. He wasn't sure who would be in more trouble, him or Abby? Sure she was being a brat and a baby about the dog, but he probably should've tried harder to keep the truth from her. The fact of the matter was that he liked it when Abby fawned all over him.
Over years and numerous tragedies the team had begun functioning as a family and poor Tim truly took his position to heart suffering from perpetual middle child syndrome. Abby on the other hand was the consummate baby girl. She could talk, weasel, and whine her way out of almost anything. She sometimes suffered lectures or "the glare," but rarely did her consequences measure up to what the rest of them received. Heck in the last five years Tim couldn't think of one time when he'd seen Gibbs smack her on the back of the head. She'd probably dissolve into a puddle and end up getting a treat for the trouble caused.
"McGee!" Gibbs barked up to a standing Tim from his desk. "Do you have something to tell us or not?"
"Sorry Boss." Relaxing his posture a hair McGee walked over to his boss' (and mentor in all things) desk.
"We might have a problem Boss. Abby isn't too happy with me for shooting the dog. She's acting like he couldn't have done anything wrong based on his eyes. She's getting attached to dog before the evidence is even processed. I wasn't sure what to do. She wouldn't let me help her down to her lab with him and I'm kind of persona non grata down there right now."
"You left her downstairs with a wild dog that just took a chunk out of you a few hours ago?"
The smack to the back of the head wasn't unexpected or undeserved Tim thought. Grabbing his coffee cup Gibbs took off for Abby's lab with Tim on his heels. Ziva and Tony looked on in amusement. It was the way of siblings. Let no outsider attack, but if you got a chance to see the others in it ankle deep you got to enjoy it a little. Besides after Tony's provoking behavior at the crime scene, taking a picture of Ziva's butt and complaining all the way back to the Navy Yard about having to break his date for the night he was glad that something had pulled Gibbs' focus off of him for a bit.
"What do you think that is about?" Ziva asked coming from behind her desk.
"My guess. Our little Goth Princess has drawn the King's wrath."
"How does that answer my question?"
"Which question would that be, the first or the second?"
"Did that make sense to you?" Poor girl was getting her English confuses me knitted brow look.
"Well, now perhaps it's your third."
"My third what? What are you talking about?"
"What am I talking about? This is your conversation David."
"Ugh! You are so frustrating."
Tony finally got up from his desk and joined Ziva. "What I'm saying is that Abby ain't giving that dog up without a fight."
"Surely, Gibbs will fight back."
"Oh, yeah Ziva surely he will." Tony walked away pissed about the way his night would end up versus how it should've ended up. Damn that McGee mauling dog. Maybe a little doggie torment on McGee would help pass the time more favorably.

Sitting on the floor with a still very sedate dog Abby brushed the matted fur for any trace evidence before she bathed him. She heard the elevator ding and figured it was McGee coming back to plea his case. Well, she wasn't interested. As far as she was concerned McGee was the enemy and so was anyone else who thought this poor defenseless animal was guilty of anything.
"Go away McGee! There's nothing you have to say that I want to hear."
"Oh, you're gonna want to hear what I have to say."
Uh-oh! It wasn't McGee. Lifting up her head Abby tried to hone into her connection with the team leader. Yeah, it didn't seem like boss Gibbs was too happy. Actually, it didn't seem like "daddy" Gibbs was much happier. Standing up she grabbed her tray of supplies and removed her gloves.
"Hey Gibbs!" Glaring over his shoulder she added, "what is he doing down here?"
"Knock it off Abby. Why is he out and just laying on the floor? Get a kennel in here and get him in it."
"Gibbs. He's a wounded warrior. Besides he's all full of sedative and has barely moved since I started processing him."
"Not open for discussion young lady. Call for the kennel. Now Abby, if I come back here and there isn't one I am not going to be happy."
"He's not happy now." Whoops, too far thought Abby as she looked at Gibbs face. She backed up a little. At least getting out of arms reach."
"McGee go back upstairs. You three better have something when I get back."
McGee looked at Abby with his own version of sad puppy eyes. "Abby, I really am sorry about hurting him. It really was self defense though." He left the lab and as they heard the elevator arrive and depart Gibbs put down his cup.
"Come here to me Abby."
"Um, I'm kinda up to my tats in doggie evidence Gibbs. Can we chat from here? I can hear you real good."
"Front and center Abigail."
"Yes, Gibbs."
Taking her chin in his hands Gibbs made sure his youngest was looking directly into his eyes before he spoke.
"Get the kennel here. Get him in the kennel and under NO circumstance are you to turn this situation into a 'thing'. I will not be happy if I find myself back here having the same conversation. You know what you need to do and what's expected of you. I don't want any nonsense."
Anger and defiance were building up. She wanted to wiggle out of his grasp so bad. They stared at each other a second longer before he let his hand drop and walked past her to door.
"Only you would find caring for a helpless dog nonsense," Abby mumbled with her arms folder firmly across her chest. She continued to mumble and grumble several unflattering things about McGee and Gibbs and how she would do what she had to in order to protect her new friend. Gibbs' overwhelming presence didn't register until it was too late.
He gave her a mighty swat to the seat of her lab coat making sure it was hard enough to feel beneath layers.
"Ow!"
"Only warning Abs. Next time wait until you hear the ding before you decide to run off with a smart mouth.
She stared at the door to her lab until the desired ding and door close confirmed his exit. Turning back to her pooch she made up her mind to solve the mystery of Jethro everything else be damned.
"Don't worry Jethro I'm going to get this all sorted out. We'll prove your innocence to them all.
