Disclaimer: In this economy I'm holding on to my handful of possessions with a vice grip. Tragically NCIS is not one of those possessions. It is the sole property of the creators, studio, writers, producers, directors, etc. Lucky them….

I consider myself lucky to be able to take them out to play for a while.

Abby paced around her lab occasionally speaking to canine Jethro in an attempt to rationalize her need to defy Gibbs on any level, but especially this one. She had complete faith and trust in Gibbs and the team, but they were only thinking with their heads and saving Jethro would involve heart. It would involve a lot of heart. The flea was meaningful she just knew it. All she needed to do was retrace Jethro's Navy Yard path and find the swarm his particular flea came from. Easy. Getting out of the lab and building on the other hand would be all sorts of HARD!

"Jethro you and I are taking a field trip."

She had to act before she loss her nerve and regained her common sense.

"Gibbs." The team leader was exasperated with Abby's behavior on this case. If this was another call about fleas or random reasons why this damn dog was innocent he didn't know what he'd do.

"Hey Gibbs. Where are you?"

"In the car Abs. We're on our way back to the Navy Yard. What's up?"

"It can wait."

Closing his phone he refused to respond to the looks his agents were giving him. Besides this case he knew he needed to get to the bottom of the Jenny situation. Something was definitely wrong. He knew it in his gut. That thought must have accelerated his heart and his reflexes. The car picked up speed like it had just been challenged to duel. Only the look of abject fear in Tony's eyes and the death grip he had on his seatbelt clued him in on how fast he was currently going.

"They're not actually leaving today Boss." Tony said with nervous laughter coating his voice.

"Yeah, Tony I know." He eased up a hair and watched the white-knuckle clutch loosen a bit.

Back at her car Abby had Jethro all settled in for their journey.

"It's probably not going to get any easier. Abby our forensic scientist has become a bit attached to the dog." Tim informed Erica as the elevator made it's way down to the lab to retrieve the former Butch.

"How attached?"

As they entered the unusually silent lab and Tim saw zero sign of Abby or the dog he turned back to the red headed handler and hoped she would overwhelmingly understand. He didn't want to call Gibbs and report this little disappearing act unless he absolutely had to.

"I'm gonna go out on a limb and say very. If he hadn't tried to rip me to shreds a few hours ago I'd likely feel the same way. She just doesn't see him that way, well, because she didn't see him that way."

"Agent McGee…"

"Tim."

"Right. Tim, where 's the dog?"

"Funny thing about Abby. She's a very committed individual. She has a great capacity to care. Do you know she even renamed the dog? It's actually named after our boss. I'm sure that's what she's doing. She's probably out getting him a new collar and some toys and treats."

"And she took the dog with her?"

"Yeah, that's… I'm sure that's all it is." In his head Tim knew whatever she had gotten up to with that mute was anything but a trip to Pet Smart.

"I don't have a lot of time Tim. I really need to get back. What am I going to tell my commander?"

"I will give her a call and get her right back here. Um, maybe you should go back and take care of what you need to and I'll call you when she's back in the building. Don't tell your commander just yet. No sense in worrying the him."

"Well, he'll be something, but I'm pretty sure worried won't be one of them. I really need to get that dog."

"Not a problem. Let me escort you out and then I'll make that call. We'll get this all straightened out quickly."

As McGee was tap dancing around Erica Abby was chasing a leash free Jethro across the military base.

"Jethro! Jethro! Jethro!"

Clomping by in her platforms and a ruffled mini-skirt created quite the scene and although not focused on the noise around her Abby couldn't help but hear some of the colorful cat-calls being hurled her way.

"Woa! I'm Jethro."

Okay, maybe Jethro wasn't a killer, but he clearly wasn't very obedient either. When she finally caught up to him the wounded hound wasn't even winded, but he was furiously digging in the dirt. Abby took advantage of his being still and reattached his leash, which in hindsight she now understood she should have done before they got out of the car.

"Jethro don't ever do that again."

Before she had a moment to over think the pooch's behavior her phone rang. Damn she thought. There's no way Gibbs is back yet.

"Hey McGee."

"Where'd you take the dog?" He had NO time for niceties. "Abby."

"I'm at the Naval Base McGee. You better get down here. I think we have another body."

"Oh, Abby. You do realize I have to call Gibbs."

"Yes, McGee. Call him and Ducky. I'm not sure exactly where we are. Jethro kind of took off and I just followed."

"This gets worse and worse. Stay put and I'll ping your location. And Abby keep a handle on that dog." With that Tim pulled a Gibbs and hung up.

"Tony I'm sending you coordinates to a wooded area on base. I need you guys to meet me, Ducky and Palmer there. Abby found another body."

"Who found it? Our Abby? Abby that shouldn't be at crime scenes Abby?" Tony attempted to whisper through gritted teeth as he practically shoved his head through the passenger window.

"I don't know the details. Please just get there."

"Sure thing Probie." Tony hated being the deliver of sketchy news he knew his boss would hate.

"We're gonna need to turn around boss. McGee is sending the location. There's another body discovery."

Piping up from the backseat Ziva inquired for details. Unlike the Probie Tony wasn't about to throw himself on Abby's grenade of bad choices. Best to tell the man outright than have him find out when he got there. It would give him a real count to ten moment and might keep him from laying into the leggy Goth in the middle of the base.

"Gibbs. Abby found the body."

Tony grabbed his seatbelt again and knew he wouldn't be letting it go until they reached the spot McGee had sent. The only thing that might save the "kid" would be if it was damn good evidence.
