Peter, Ray, and Winston quickly ran over to Egon, who was lying on the ground not moving. They were worried that the blast had killed him.
"Is he still alive?" Ray asked nervously.
Winston quickly put his fingers on the side of Egon's neck and found a pulse. The Marine sighed in relief. "Yeah, he's still alive. I found a pulse. And his heart's beating and he's breathing." Peter and Ray sighed with relief, as well.
"But he's really weak. Fighting Keizer probably drained a lot of his strength." Winston said
"Along with Keizer using some of his energy and blasting himself." Peter added.
Winston continued examining Egon's body for any major cuts or broken bones. Despitea few minor cuts and bruises, the physicist had managed to avoid injury
"No broken bones or anything, thank God. He just needs to rest for a little bit." said Winston.
"Let's get him back to the firehall. We'll take care of him there." Ray said.
"And put this demonic bastard in the containment unit where he belongs." Peter added as he held up the smoking trap.
Winston grabbed Egon's upper chest while Peter grabbed his legs. Working together, the two Ghostbusters were able to carry Egon and put him in the backseat of Ecto-1. After Winston got done dealing with Peck, Ray got in the driver's seat and began the drive back to the firehall. Peter and Winston stayed in the backseat just in case Egon suddenly stopped breathing or went into cardiac arrest. After about 20 minutes, the team arrived back at the firehall. Janine Melnitz, their fiery and loyal secretary, was typing away at her desk.
"There y'all are! I was getting worried about you guys!" Janine exclaimed.
Ray didn't say anything as he got out of Ecto-1 and opened the back door to help Winston and Peter get Egon out. Janine's eyes widened when she saw Winston and Peter carrying an unconscious Egon.
"Oh my God! What happened to Egon?! Is he ok?" Janine asked.
"Yeah," Peter replied, "Apparently, those four Class 3's we caught were minions of a demon named Keizer. He wanted us to free his minions. But when we refused, he possessed Egon."
"WHAT?!" Janine yelled.
"Yeah, but Egon was actually able to fight back and man, he was fighting hard." said Winston, "And when Keizer was about to blast us with this huge energy ball, Egon took control and thrusted the energy ball at himself, which drove Keizer out. Only then were we finally able to trap him."
"Is he hurt?" Janine asked worried.
"No, just really weak." Ray replied, "He might be unconscious for a bit."
"Is there anything I can do?" asked Janine.
"Not right now, but if we do, we'll let you know." Peter replied
The three Ghostbusters were able to carry Egon up the stairs and into the sleeping quarters they shared. After gently laying him down on his bed, they took his boots off and managed to take off his jumpsuit, leaving him in a black t-shirt and khaki pants. He felt a little warm, so Winston rushed into the bathroom and got a cold compress which he put on Egon's forehead.
"He should be ok for right now. But we should take turns staying with him, just in case." said Winston.
"Yeah, good idea." said Ray.
Throughout the rest of the day and overnight the guys and Janine took turns sitting beside Egon to make sure nothing bad happened to him. Thankfully, nothing did and no more calls came in. Around 10 A.M. the next morning, Ray entered the bedroom after he and Winston had gotten back from a bust. Peter was sitting beside the unconscious physicist.
"Awake yet?" Ray asked.
"No," Peter replied.
"I wouldn't be surprised if he was out for a while longer but if he's not awake by late afternoon, we should probably get him some medical attention." Winston said as he entered the bedroom.
Hearing their voices, Egon instinctively moved his hand. Peter immediately saw this and exclaimed: "Hey guys, I think he's waking up!!"
"Stop yelling...Peter..." Egon said in a low voice.
"Oh sorry Spengs." Peter replied sheepishly, "Just happy you're awake now."
"Egon, can you open your eyes?" Ray asked.
Hearing Ray's voice, Egon slowly opened his eyes. Despite some weakness and a dazed look in his eyes, the brains of the Ghostbusters was in decent shape.
"Ray..?" Egon said in a low voice.
"Yeah, it's me. And Peter and Winston. We're here." Ray replied.
Egon slowly sat up with help and then rubbed his tired blue eyes. "How long was I unconscious for?" he asked.
"We brought you back yesterday." said Winston.
"Yesterday?" Egon asked confused.
"You've been asleep for about 24 hours." Ray said.
"Oh, ok." Egon said. He then felt a pain in the middle of his forehead, "Ow, my head hurts."
Peter got up and walked of the room. A few minutes later, he came back carrying a cup of water and some aspirin. "Here's something for your headache and you need to drink some water. You're probably dehydrated as well ." he said.
Egon took the pills and drank all the water. "Thanks" he replied as he set the cup on the nightstand.
"You're welcome." Peter replied.
"Do you remember anything?" asked Winston.
"A little." Egon replied, while trying to clear his brain fog, "I remember catching those Class 3s and then Keizer appeared. We fought him for a bit and then he grabbed my stream and pulled me towards him. All of a sudden, I wasn't in control of my body. I remember fighting for control and blasting myself but I don't remember anything he made me do."
"Well, he made you almost blast us into oblivion several times." Peter remarked sarcastically.
"We were going to try and separate you two with one pack set to Keizer's frequency and another set to your biorhythms, but you drove him out yourself." Winston added.
"Good strategy." Egon replied.
"Alright, let me make sure you don't have a concussion or any other damage." Ray said as he sat down on Egon's bed. He took out a small light and shone it into the physicist's icy blue eyes.
"Pupillary response is good, I think you're fine Egon." Ray declared as he put the light away. He then asked, "Do you think you're strong enough to walk?"
"I think. I'll try." Egon replied. He stood up weakly and slowly, but he was able to balance himself and walk a little bit before stumbling. Peter and Winston caught him.
"Easy there Big Guy." Peter said.
Janine came upstairs and lit up when she saw Egon awake and standing. She rushed over and hugged him. He stumbled a bit.
"Whoa Janine! Careful!" Winston exclaimed, "He's still weak."
"Oh, sorry." Janine said, a little embarrassed. "I'm just really happy you're ok Egon."
"Thanks" the Ghostbuster replied, blushing a bit.
"Yeah, you scared us." Ray said," We thought you were dead. I'll admit it was dangerous and stupid to blast yourself, but it was also brave and selfless."
"Well, I couldn't just let Keizer hurt you guys." Egon said.
"Aww, so you do love us." Peter said teasingly
"Don't push it Venkman." said Egon. He shut his eyes as tiredness and dizziness took hold.
"You want to rest a little bit more?" Winston asked.
"Yeah," Egon replied.
The physicist walked back into the sleeping quarters with Peter and Winston hovering beside him in case he stumbled again. Egon laid back down on his bed but before he fell back asleep, he called out to his friends.
"Hey guys." Egon called.
"What is it Egon?" Ray responded.
"I forgot to tell you that while I was possessed, I could still hear you guys talking to me. Your voices helped give me the motivation and strength to overcome Keizer's control. So thanks." said Egon.
"You're welcome." Peter said, "Anything for a friend.
"Yeah, you'd do the same for us." Winston added.
"I'll bring you some tea and some more aspirin later if you need it." Janine said as she walked back downstairs.
As he fell asleep, Egon thought about how lucky he was to have three amazing friends who could pull him from the grip of a demon possession.
The End
