Hey guys.
I'm back with another instalment of Trapped Until Dawn. Now Ryan and William are placed into the world of Until Dawn. How will they react and how will they escape? I hope you enjoy this chapter. Also sorry if I'm ripping off anyone else's storyline, I never intended on doing that, all of these ideas are my own.
Ryan's POV, Bus, 20:55
O Death, O Death. Won't you spare me over 'til another year?
Weird music played in my ears as I slowly came back to the land of the living. My eyelids were extremely heavy and my body felt like it was just deadweight. It wasn't until I was jolted out of my seat by a sudden bump that the music slowly faded out and I started to wake up fully.
Wait, seat? I slowly opened my eyes, blinking through the blurriness, and saw that I was in fact on a bus, driving through a snowy pine forest. The bus was pretty much empty, except for the driver and a girl the was sitting to my left. She looked to be around the same age as me and was wearing thick winter clothes. She seemed to be listening to some radio station; I could just about hear the people saying something about two girls who went missing about a year ago. It was strange, but she looked vaguely familiar.
I also quickly noticed that I was wearing different clothes. I was now wearing a dark red puffer jacket with a black hoodie underneath, navy blue tracksuit trousers and black snow boots, not forgetting my usual thick-rimmed glasses. I also had my backpack at my feet as well. It looked like I was prepared to go out in cold weather, and based on where the bus was heading, that might be the case.
I tried to sit up without disturbing the woman, but it failed miserably. "Well, look who finally decided to wake up? Sleep well, Sleepyhead?"
Her voice sounds familiar too. "Uh... what?" I said, my mind still sort of hazy.
She appeared perturbed by my confusion. "Are you alright? You seem kinda out of it."
"Um, where am I?"
"...We're on the bus, silly," she said, stating the obvious.
"Y-yeah, I can see that, but where are we heading? Also, who are you and how do you know me?"
"Um, Ryan, are you fully awake yet? It's me, Sam? Sam Giddings? We're heading up to Blackwood Pines? Did you hit your head before we met up or something?" she answered as the bus chugged along to our apparent destination. I stayed silent as I processed that piece of information. Everything sounded far too familiar to be a coincidence.
What's going on? Sam? Blackwood Pines? Where have I heard those names… from… Wait a minute! Suddenly, everything came back to me. What happened before I ended up here, coming home from college, trying to loading up Until Dawn, everything going white and then blacking out. Then I recognized who the women sitting next to me truly was; she was Sam from Until Dawn. This WAS Until Dawn!
This is impossible! How the fuck am I in Until Dawn. Am I dreaming? In some sort of coma? 'Sam' seemed to be getting more concerned by the minute. "Look, I know you haven't been up Blackwood Mountain before and I know some… bad things have happened up there in the past, but are you sure you're alright? We can head back down if you want... I'm sure Josh would understand."
"...N-no, no, I'm fine. I promise. Don't worry about me," I reassured her, trying my best not to worry her. It seemed to work for the most part, as she sat back and started watching a video of some guy on her phone, although I couldn't help but see her give me a few glances out of the corner of her eye.
Ok, this is insane. How am I here right now? This makes no sense! I pinched myself just to make sure this wasn't a dream, but only succeeded in wincing in pain. Nope, not a dream. Duly noted. So what the hell then? You can't just be sucked into a video game. That's not possible. I need to figure out what's going on before my head implodes. It didn't take long for the bus to pull up to the entrance of Blackwood Pines and for us to grab our stuff and leave the bus behind.
As we opened the gate to enter, I felt as if we were being watched in the shadows of the woods, but I tried my best to brush it off as just a feeling, for now anyway. It didn't help that as soon as we walked through the gate, we heard a cracking noise behind the treeline. "Hello, is anyone there?" Sam asked the forest as we continued down the path.
"I-it was probably just an animal or something, right?" I said, knowing I was probably talking out of my ass.
"Yeah, probably," Sam said. I have a really bad feeling about this.
After walking down the pathway for a bit, we got to a large iron gate. I was about to open it but I noticed it had a note attached. Sam tore it off the bars and we both saw that it read 'The gate's busted, climb over – Chris.'
"What? Dammit." Sam looked at the front and back of the note, then tried to open the gate, which was a little stupid; the note said that the gate was busted so trying to open it was futile. "Jesus never mind."
"Hey, we can climb the wall over here, like the note says," I said with a slight smirk.
"Yeah, good going Sherlock," Sam replied sarcastically, punching me on the shoulder lightly. I started climbing first, trying to find the best hand and footholds as I could, but it was very hard work. I ended up falling back down a couple of times, almost smacking my head against the wall on multiple occasions. "Come on, Ryan, hurry up. We haven't got all night."
I gave her smirk a mock glare of my own. "I'm trying my best here! I'm sure I'm not as active as you are, so cut me some slack." I eventually overcame this hurdle and jumped down, almost falling head over heels on the other side. Luckily Sam wasn't able to see my embarrassing fumble as she started making her ascent. She was surprisingly fast, way faster than I had done it. Before I could even dust myself off she was already standing beside me.
"Show off," I muttered.
She smirked at me once again as she passed. "Well, maybe you should spend more time on the climbing wall than drawing."
"Hey, I do that in my spare time," I retorted.
"Doesn't mean you play sports enough," Sam retorted back. How does she know so much about me? This is getting stranger and stranger by the minute.
As we continued to walk, a squirrel appeared in the middle of the pathway out of nowhere. "Aww, hey there little fella, you hungry," Sam took some nuts out of her pocket, kneeled down and tried to stay very still. The squirrel apprehensively came over, took the nuts and scurried off. "Cutie."
"You're really good with animals," I said to her as she got back up.
"Well, I've had experience," she replied as we continued walking.
We walked up a small flight of stairs and ended up at a totem pole statue with a plaque on it that said something about tribal people and butterfly prophecies. I didn't pay to much attention to it at first. Then I noticed something on the ground. Kneeling down, I saw that it looked like some sort of totem that had yellow markings on it. I slowly pick it up to inspect it and flipped it over to see a hole with a yellow butterfly around the edge. However, before I had any time to react, my vision went black.
I thought I had fallen unconscious again, but instead, I saw an image of a bird flying onto a snowy picnic table. However, as quickly as it came, it flew away, but as it did that, a man came into view from behind a pole on the left. Before I could question anything else, my vision went black once again.
I was snapped back to 'reality' with my shoulder being lightly shaken. "Ryan? Ryan?!" Sam shouted, causing me to panic slightly.
"Uh? What...? Sam? Um… D-did you just see that?" I said skittishly, trying my best to recompose myself.
She gave me another confused look. "See what?"
"T-the bench… a-and the bird… a-and the guy… Y-you didn't see that?"
"Ryan, you're scaring me now. Are you absolutely sure you want to come with us? We can still head back down, it's not too late."
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath to calm my jitteriness, before giving the best smile I could. "I'm fine… really. Wouldn't want to disappoint… Josh… would we? Just forget I said anything."
I could tell Sam didn't want to let the issue go, but she could tell I was resolute in my decision. "Fine, but we should really meet up with Chris at the cable car station as soon as possible, so we can get you up to the lodge. The attitude is getting to your head." With that said, she hesitantly turned to continue traversing the path up the mountain.
What the FUCK was that?! I looked at that totem then that was shown to me. I examined the plaque closely to see if that told me anything, gave me any clues. I quickly recognized the yellow butterfly and saw that it matched the one on the totem.
So, that was some sort of… vision then? That is definitely some sort of game mechanic… Shit, this is actually happening, isn't it? I really am in Until Dawn… Fuck, I better remember these colours. Just in case... Now panicking on the inside, but trying to stay calm on the outside, I swiftly followed Sam towards the cable car station.
I stumbled up more stairs and came to a building that I could only assume was the cable car station. While Sam looked at the graffitied map that said 'THE PAST IS BEYOND OUR CONTROL', I looked up at the huge mountain in the distance, contemplating my predicament, the possible horrors that lay beyond this cable car station terrifying me to my very core
"Wow, graffiti all the way up here."
"W-well, doesn't Josh come up here all the time?" I said, trying my best to keep my cool and blend in.
"Probably," Sam replied, moving over to me. "Ryan, you're shaking like a leaf! Please, just tell me if something's wrong. I'm your friend. You can tell me anything."
"L-look, I-I'm fine, alright? I-I'm just cold. That's all... Can w-we just get in the cable car station p-please?!" I almost demanded hurriedly. I knew she was starting to worry about my mental state, but without another word, we shuffled over to the main building. As we approached, we both noticed two benches off to the right of the door, one of which had a bag on it. Must be Chris's
"Chris? Are you here?" Sam shouted out. "Your bag's here, where are you. You're not in the bag, are you?" She noticed that Chris's phone was hanging out of his bag.
"Hello what do we have here?" She picked up the phone as it started to buzz. I glanced over her shoulder and saw a message notification from someone named Ashley. "Ah ha, look who it is."
"S-Sam, we shouldn't be snooping through Chris's phone," I scolded through my trama.
"Oh come on, you can't tell me that you're not just a little bit curious?" Sam replied as she continued to flip through the phone.
"No, not at all!" She gave me a look that clearly said she didn't believe me. "O-ok maybe a little, but still, it's wrong to snoop."
"You're telling me." Someone behind us said out of nowhere. I jumped so high that I could've hit my head on the roof of the cable car station. We quickly spun around to find out it was just Chris.
"Oh, Chris." We both said at the same time.
"You scared us," Sam said.
I scowled at him, trying my damn hardest to hold back my anger… and tears. "Don't sneak up on us like that!"
"I'm sorry, are you my secretary?" Chris said to Sam, clearly annoyed that she was currently in possession of his phone.
"I-I told her not to," I pointed out.
"It was buzzing," Sam defended, holding his phone out for him to take.
"Cool, well, thanks for letting me know you two. I can take it from here." Chris said as he took his phone back and looked through his messages, before putting it in his pocket. He bent down to grab his bag but suddenly stopped. "...Wait a minute."
"What? What's wrong?" Sam asked.
"Where is... He was right here... I tell ya, he really does have the memory of a goldfish." Chris joked. I was about to ask who he was talking about until a voice shouted out from behind us.
"Oh, do I now!" I swerved around to greet the newcomer, only to get the biggest surprise that night.
"WILL?!"
Will's POV, Cable Car Station, 21:09
This night had already been weird enough as it was. Waking up on a bench out in the cold isn't the best way to wake up, even if my new attire, which comprised of an unzipped blue denim jacket, woolly grey turtleneck, blue jeans, thick snow boots and a black beanie on top, did keep me warm. But it's even weirder to be woken up by a character from a video game, in the world of that very same video game. I thought that was going to be as strange as it got, but I did not expect my brother to be here as well.
"WILL?!" he exclaimed at my appearance. We stared at each other for what felt like an eternity but was only a few seconds. With nothing else to say, Ryan ran over to me and we embraced, letting our emotion speak for itself. I was so glad that Ryan was here too because I wasn't sure I was going to be able to handle this on my own. And by how tightly he was hugging me and the tears beading at his eyes, he was thinking the exact same thing.
"Oh God, Ryan. I can't believe you're here too." I whispered in his ear, holding him like he was suddenly going to be blown away by the freezing mountain winds.
"I-I can't believe it either... H-how are we here, Will?" Ryan studdered through soft cries of both happiness and sadness. "F-for the first time in my life, I don't have any understanding of what's going on?"
"I don't know, Ryan. I don't know." I responded, just as bewildered as he was. "But I promise I will get us out of here in one piece... I promise."
"Thank god you're here. Oh, thank god…" he exclaimed as we only pulled each other closer together.
We were so focused on each other that we had completely forgotten about the two video game characters standing off to the side watching us. "Aww, you two are so sweet whenever you're together," Sam said as we quickly realised and reluctantly broke our embrace.
"We'll talk about this when we're a bit more alone," I whispered to Ryan, ruffling his hair to cheer him up as he wiped away his tears, before turning to Sam and Chris. "Well, he's my brother... We're inseparable."
"Will, where were you? Did you actually forget that you were guarding the bags?" Chris asked.
"No, I didn't!" I exclaimed. "I thought I heard something in the woods, so I went over to see what it was, but it seemed like it was nothing. I swear I felt someone rushing around back there."
"Don't worry, no one comes up here, apart from Josh. He should be up at the lodge already." Chris said as he picked up his bag from the bench. "Oh so, I found something kind of amazing."
"What?" Sam asked.
"I'm not going to tell, you gotta see for yourselves. Come on, it's this way." Chris said.
"Where?" Sam asked.
"Right around here, gonna blow your minds," Chris replied as he led us to a little pathway around the side of the cable car station.
"I... don't know about this. Shouldn't we be getting up to the lodge." Ryan asked, really not sure whether we should be out here any longer than necessary.
"Trust me, it's totally cool. You guys are gonna love it." Chris answered.
"We still have to wait for the cable car anyway, so let's just indulge him," Sam said, looking not too thrilled with the distraction. By the way she was looking at Ryan, I could tell she was worried about him, but knowing we didn't have many options, we continued to follow Chris.
As we walked around, I glanced at the sidewall of the cable car station to see a wanted poster that had the top of it ripped in half, so that the head of the photo wasn't there anymore. Must not have wanted to be found.
"Oh man, look at this." Sam pointed out the wanted poster of Victor Milgram to the others.
"Nice, you think we'll get a visit from America's most wanted?" Chris asked jokingly.
"I hope not," Ryan said worriedly.
"Looks like someone thought so," Sam said.
"Oh come on, this place is abandoned most of the year," Chris said. "Like I said, nobody comes up here."
"Yeah, you say that now," I mumbled to myself.
After that, we continued our way around the back of the building to find a shooting range. "Ta dah, pretty rad right?" Chris said putting his hands out wide.
"Ok, I will admit, this is pretty cool," I said, eyeing the gun on the table.
"Yeaaaaaaaah," Sam said hesitantly. I could see Ryan was staying silent. He had never really been into guns or violence in general. He tried to only resort to it in self-defence unless he's provoked, as shown a few hours prior back in reality. Me, on the other hand...
"Come on, look at these beauties," Chris said.
"'Beauties' is not the word that comes to mind, why is this even here?" Sam asked Chris.
"What do you mean?" Chris asked, acting like the answer was obvious.
"What the hell is a shooting range doing at the base of a ski lodge?"
"Dude, have you ever met Josh's dad?"
"Yeah?"
"He thinks he's like, Grizzly Adams or something, wanna try?" Chris asked everyone in the group.
"No thanks... You can go, I'll just stand back here, out of the way of the blast radius." Ryan said, immediately stepping away from the bb gun.
Me, however, I did the exact opposite. "Oh yeah! Let me at it!"
"You go 'head, Grizzly," Sam said to me as I grabbed the gun and aimed at the shooting range, surveying all of my options. I've had some experience with guns in the past, having gone to a shooting range when I was 15, so I knew what I was doing. And I thought it may be good practice if we really have to go through this game.
First, I decided to shot at a bag hanging on the left far end of a tree. I looked down the sight at the bag and pulled the trigger. It swaying as the pellet passed right through it. Internally celebrating, I took aim and did the exact same thing to a can on a snow-covered barrel on my right, another can on the floor to my left, and another bag on the same tree to the far right, hitting them all dead in the centre.
"Wow, nice shootin' Tex," Sam said to me, looking a little impressed.
"You haven't seen anything yet," I said smugly.
She obviously wasn't impressed enough though. "I'm gonna go ahead and guess it was a wild case of beginners luck."
I wasn't going to let her downplay my little victories like that. "Nah, I've done this before, Sammy. Watch this." I aimed once again and shot a glass bottle that was on a barrel just in front of the first bag I shot. It exploded into glass dust.
"Well, anybody and their brother can shoot a bottle that big, that close," Sam said. There's no pleasing this woman, is there.
"I actually don't think I could," Ryan said sadly from where he was standing by the cable car station, as far away from the shooting range as he could be. He sometimes has a hard time understanding sayings.
Still with gun in hand, I strode over to him and patted him on the back. "Oh come on Ryan, you could do it if you tried. If you can beat up a guy twice the size of you, you can shot a gun and hit a sandbag." I tried my best to give him some confidence, but it didn't seem to work as well as I hoped.
"When did he do that?" Sam asked. Shit. When will I learn to keep my mouth shut?
"…Y-you guys weren't there. It was before we met." I blagged. She seemed to be ok with that answer luckily.
"I don't know, I've never been good in terms of accuracy challenges," Ryan said.
That wasn't good enough for me. "You could at least try."
"I'd probably just misfire and shoot someone. I would have to do it at close range... With something that shoots big," he said.
"Don't say that. You can do anything if you put your mind to it. Give it a try and you might surprise yourself." I reaffirmed, holding the gun out for him to take.
He looked at me like I was a crazy person, but I could see the cogs turning in his head. "...Fine, I'll give it a go... but don't blame me if one of you gets hurt." With a lot of hesitation, he took the gun from him and took slow, trembling steps towards the shooting range.
"We really shouldn't be doing this. We should be focusing on finding a way out of here," he whispered to me as we stood by the range.
I gave his shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "Look, we'll discuss that later when they are distracted. They seem to think that we are a part of this world, so right now, let's just try and blend in until we're alone." He didn't look too pleased with that answer but, with a quick glance at Sam and Chris and shaky hands, he lifted the gun and looked down the sight at the three bags.
With how much he was swaying, he was obviously going to miss his first shot. "Ok, not bad, but you need to calm down a little, otherwise you're not going to hit anything."
"I-I don't know if can." I could tell he was about to drop the gun and ran as far away as he could, so I quickly stood by him and guided him.
"It's ok. It's ok. We'll do this together." I said calmly as I took a hold of his arms and helped him aim at the middle bag.
"Take a deep breath. Calm your nerves." He did just that.
"And..." He looked down the sight.
"Pull the trigger..." Bang! The bag swayed as the bullet hit its target dead-on. "There you go! You did it!"
"Well done, Ryan!" Chris cheered from the sidelines.
He didn't seem that impressed with himself though. "But you helped me. That was basically your shot. I still can't do it myself."
"But now you know what to do. You CAN do it. Just believe in yourself. Now take aim and destroy that bag." I encouraged. His expression told me that he was still nervous, but I could see a hint of determination behind those brown eyes. With that in mind, he turned back around and took aim, a little bit more sturdy this time.
"You can do it, Ryan." Sam gave some words of support herself. Unfortunately, he wasn't sturdy enough. He didn't completely calm himself down before shooting and missed the bag again, but he did somehow manage to shot the rope holding it up and the bag came tumbling to the ground with a thud.
He growled out in growing frustration at his poor aim. "Hey, come on. You hit the rope holding the bag up! That's an achievement in and of itself."
"But it wasn't what I was going for, was it! I wouldn't be able to do that again if I tried!" He yelled, just about ready to throw the gun back on the table.
"Ok, ok, I get. It wasn't what you were going for, but you're so close. Give it one more try."
"Will..."
"Just one more. If you won't do it for yourself, do it for me... Please." Ryan looked between me, the gun, the range and Sam and Chris with uncertainty for a second, before groaning and turning back to the infernal bags. "Thank you."
"Yeah, yeah... Just be quiet and let me shoot." With one last ounce of willpower, he looked down the sight at the bags that just seemed to be tormenting him at this point and took the shot.
Bam... straight into the tree. The frustration playing on his mind caused him to miss once again. That was the last straw. "THAT'S IT! I'm done! I can't FUCKING do it!" He roared out in anger and slammed the gun back down on the table, almost breaking it in the process, and stormed off.
"Ryan!" I tried calling out to him, but he wasn't having any of it this time.
"No, Will! I've had enough! I told you I couldn't do it, but you didn't listen! Just leave me alone for a minute!" He shouted back at me as he stomped back towards the front of the cable car station.
I moved to go after him, but Sam stopped me by holding my shoulder before I had the chance. "Let him go. Give him some time to calm down. He'll come around eventually."
I knew that she was right, even though I didn't like it one bit. I sighed deeply in anguish, shaking Sam off of my shoulder and snatched the gun back off the table. I looked back at the range, looking for something to take my irritation with my brother out on, only to see a squirrel appear from behind the tree and go up one of the barrels to scrounge for some nuts.
Grr, my brother can be so infuriating at times. He needs to have more confidence in himself... I could take my anger out on that squirrel... No, that wouldn't be right. I really shouldn't... should I?
What am I thinking?! I can't harm that poor little squirrel. Reprimanding my momentary lapse in judgement, I slapped myself lightly in the face and quickly shot another sack instead, before throwing the gun back down (Butterfly Effect).
"Nice shot," Sam said to me.
"Your ass just got saaaaacked," Chris said in the background, looking a bit jealous at my marksmanship. I couldn't help but glare at him for not reading the mood.
"Ugh," Sam grunted at Chris. "Hey, sharp-shooter, our ride is coming."
"Wait, I haven't had my go yet!" Chris said in dispair.
"Come on you two, the cable car. Ryan's waiting," Sam said as she walked back towards the front of the cable car station, following Ryan's lead while a bird flew overhead. (Butterfly Effect Update)
"Sorry, Chris. I promise when we're at a shooting range next, I'll let you go first." I apologized to Chris, putting my arm over his shoulder, before catching up with Sam.
"Man, it's definitely weird coming back up here after a whole year," Chris said as we continued to walk to the front of the building.
"Yeah, I swear, the moment I got here it all just came flooding back," Sam said.
"A year goes fast," Chris said.
Hmm, I wonder what they're going on about. We quickly turned the corner to see Ryan on the benches in front of the cable car station, arms crossed in a sulk. He saw us come around the corner and relaxed ever so slightly. "You ok now? Calmed down?"
He sighed heavily. "...Yeah… I'm fine. Let's just get on that cable car." We moved to the front door to enter the station, only to find that it was locked for some reason.
"Hey, that's weird, door's locked," Sam said as she tries to shove the door open.
"Yeaaaaah, Josh wanted us to keep it locked, keep people out," Chris explained.
"He said that? What people?" Sam asked.
"I don't know, he said they found people sleeping in the station one time," Chris answered as he got the key out of his pocket.
"Creepy," Sam said.
"I thought you said no one comes up here," I said.
"It was only the one time. They haven't been back since, but they lock it just to be safe." He quickly unlocked and opened the door.
"After you," Chris said to Sam as he let her in first.
"A real gentleman," Sam said as she walked in.
"Thanks, Chris," I said.
"Yeah, thanks, Chris," Ryan said as we walked in.
"Ugh, I thought the car was closer," Sam said as she looked up at the cable car coming down towards us.
"Guess we gotta wait," Chris said while he looked around in the back room. "What a crazy place to set up house, no matter how rich you are."
"They're not so rich, they only bought a mountain," Sam said sarcastically.
"I think you can consider yourself quite rich if you can buy a mountain," Ryan said matter-of-factly. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at Ryan's obliviousness. After a little while, the cable car finally met us at the bottom.
"Finally, you comin'?" Sam asked as Chris came out of the backroom.
"Well, I was gonna stay here and catch a few zzzzzz's, buuuuut OK." Chris joked as we all got on the cable car and sat down, Ryan and I sitting on one side, Sam and Chris sitting on the other.
"Just like going to the prom," Chris said as the cable car started to move.
"Here we go," Sam said. Here we go indeed.
As the cable car rose towards the top of the mountain, I could hear Sam and Chris talking about whether they should have come back up to the mountain or not. Looks like they are distracted enough for us to talk about you know what.
"Hey, so, don't you think it's a little weird that we seem to be stuck in a video game!" I whisper shouted to Ryan.
"You're telling me. I thought I was going crazy, but there really is no other explanation for this. We really are in the world of Until Dawn." Ryan agreed.
I put my head in my hands. "But how could this happen? This makes no sense."
"I don't know! Out of the both of us, I should know why this is happening, but I'm as stumped at you are." He leaned his head against my shoulder and gave me a sideways hug, getting emotional again. "I don't know what to do! I'm out of my element here… Will, I'm scared…"
"I am too, Ryan. But we have to push through it. I think the best thing we can do is to continue through the rest of the game." I replied.
I could see the gears turning in his head again. "Wait, do you think we have to complete the game in order to escape?"
"Possibly. I don't see what choice we have. Unless some other escape route turns up, we're stuck here." I hugged him tighter. "And I don't think we should let any of the characters on to the fact that we are from another universe entirely. Not yet anyway."
Ryan nodded. "Yeah, I understand. We don't know how they would react. We can tell them when the time is right."
We didn't let go of each other as the car continued to rise, just content in each other's arms in silence, the only sounds being the wind buffeting the car and the conversation opposite us until Ryan spoke up again. "Hey, Will? I'm sorry. For my outburst back there. You were just trying to help me learn and I was useless, as usual."
"Hey, don't say that. You are not useless. You almost had it, you just gave up too quickly. You could do it if you tried harder." I said, letting go of him so I could look him dead in the eye.
"But that's the thing. What if I can't? What if I have to do something like that later? What if I can't protect myself... or you... or anyone else on this mountain for that matter?!" Ryan stressed, a little too loudly for my liking.
"Shout any louder, why don't you?" I glanced over to Sam and Chris to luckily see them continuing their conversation unhindered. "Look, don't worry about it so much. You can do this. WE can do this. You just need to keep calm and believe in yourself. I'll be right here, standing by your side all the way."
He paused to process those words, before giving me a small smile. "I'm so glad you're here too. I don't think I would've been able to do this on my own."
With all the conviction I could muster, I gave him a determined look, before saying, "I'm glad too. I promise we will get through this..."
"Together."
