Confirmation

Callie had never been a speedy driver in her life, but as she drove to the hospital, she felt herself speeding. She had to get there before Cristina went into surgery. Callie was not going to tell Erica what was going on. There were two reasons for that. One, ever since they had kissed in the parking lot, Callie had avoided her and two Callie knew how much Erica despised Mark. It took Callie ten minutes to get to the hospital from the time she left the apartment. It was her need for answers that was fueling the speed. Usually it took her twenty minutes to get to the hospital.

Callie pulled into her usual parking lot and ran into the hospital. She nearly knocked over one of the interns in her dash to the residents locker room. She needed to get her lab coat and her name tag. Once she had grabbed those two things, she dashed out of the residents locker room and took off to find Cristina. Callie was almost positive that she would be in the Cardiac ICU with Erica, probably hanging onto the Cardio Goddess' every word.

So Callie took the elevator up to the Cardiac ICU and the second she stepped off of the elevator she could hear Erica's voice. She wasn't sure if Cristina was there too, though Callie had a feeling that she probably was. When Callie could see Erica better, she also saw the petite Asian woman standing beside Erica. Yup, Callie had been right. Cristina was trying to get on Erica's service for the day. Masking hint of anxiety from her face, Callie walked up to Cristina and Erica. Both women looked up when Callie approached them. Swallowing anxiously, Callie spoke "Sorry to interrupt Dr. Hahn but I need to borrow Cristina." Cristina shot Callie a glare that clearly showed that she resented the intrusion and Cristina muttered "Hahn was just going to let me scrub in on a valve replacement." There was no way that Cristina was missing that opportunity. Erica looked up at Callie and she could see the strain in the younger woman's face. Finally Erica spoke "Dr Yang, go with Dr. Torres and then you can scrub in on the valve replacement when she is done with you." Cristina could barely believe her luck. She'd do twenty rectals if it meant Erica Hahn was allowing her to scrub in on a cardiac surgery. Callie looked at Erica and murmured a hasty "Thank you." before she grabbed Cristina's arm and dragged her out of the CICU. She realized that she could have enlisted Erica's help, but Callie knew how Erica felt about Mark. Plus Callie and Erica had barely spoken since they had kissed.

Once she had gotten Cristina away from Erica and all of the other prying eyes, Callie finally spoke, making sure her voice was low so that they would not be overheard "I need you to do an ultrasound on me and I need you to draw my blood and check my hormone levels. Make sure all the tests are run under a made up name. If I am knocked up I don't want anyone to know yet. Cristina stared at Callie in disbelief. She could not believe that Callie was actually pregnant "Who's the father?" Cristina asked curiously. There was no way that she was going to deny her curiosity at how had knocked her roommate up. Callie shifted slightly on her feet, not really wanting to tell Cristina. She knew that she had to tell someone though "Sloan." Callie finally admitted. Now Cristina's jaw dropped "You are pregnant with Mark Sloan's child?" Cristina demanded. Callie was annoyed that Cristina seemed to be so surprised at the news. Callie nodded and whispered "He's the only one. The only guy I have been with since George." Cristina nodded slowly, knowing that made sense. Callie shifted on her feet again and said "Can we check my urine and do my bloodwork first and then we'll do that ultrasound." Callie needed a few more minutes where she could pretend that she didn't know that she was more than likely pregnant. Cristina nodded and gestured to an exam room. Callie followed her inside and then she watched as Cristina ran off to get the supplies needed for these tests.

About twenty minutes later, Cristina was labeling Callie's urine and her blood samples. After the specimens were labeled, they were going to go get tested to check Callie's hormone levels. It was taking them forever to come up with a fake name to put on the cup and on the vial so the cup and the vial would not arouse suspicion. Finally Callie suggested a name "Diane Blair." Callie had no idea where that name idea had come from. All she knew was that it sounded good. Plus it wasn't as bad as the name Calliope was. Cristina shot her an odd look, that Callie just brushed away. It was not the name that unnerved her. It was the fact that she was likely pregnant.

Cristina finally had the ultrasound machine set up and she was rolling up Callie's shirt. She squired the gel on the wand and the put the wand on Callie's stomach. Cristina was not an OBGYN, but she could still see the peanut sized thing in Callie's uterus. Callie's mind was still racing. She looked down at her stomach and murmured "I am a little surprised that this could really be happening. I wish I knew how he was going to take it. Especially since the love of his life killed his child." Whoops, Callie had said too much. She had been sworn to secrecy about the whole thing from Mark and Addison and she had just broken the promise to keep the thing a secret. Cristina's almond shaped eyes went from the screen in front of her, to Callie's face in an instant "And who was it?" Cristina demanded. She was not a patient woman when someone was holding back important information. Okay this was not important information, but important gossip, but it still counted.

Callie shook her head. She had already spilled the beans that Mark could have had another child, and she was not going to tell Cristina who the mother was. It was none of Cristina's business. It was Mark and Addison's personal business "Never mind ."Callie insisted firmly. She didn't want to betray the trust of her friends. She had already said something she shouldn't have. Cristina shook her head. She was not going to let Callie get by that easily. Cristina wanted a name and she wanted one now "Callie. Spill." Cristina ordered. Callie knew that Cristina was never going to stop bugging her until she told Cristina what she knew and she just wanted Cristina to stop pestering her like an obnoxious five year old. Callie chewed on her lip for a minute or so before she murmured "Addison." Cristina's eyes widened in stunned surprise. She could not believe that Satan had been pregnant with McSteamy's child. Even Cristina had to admit that they would have had one gorgeous baby. Now she couldn't wait to go tell the others about this new bit of information. As if Callie could hear her thoughts, she said "Don't tell anyone what I told you. Addison told me on the day she would have been due and it was clear that Mark had been devastated by what she had done to their child." Cristina nodded, clearly in an effort to appease Callie. Cristina turned her eyes back to the ultrasound machine and said "Congratulations Callie." Even though Callie knew it was coming, she still felt a little jolt of excitement when Cristina confirmed what four pregnancy tests had already told Callie. Smiling Callie looked at the screen. She could not believe that the tiny little peanut sized thing was her child and it was growing inside of her. She looked at Cristina and said "I guess you can cancel the urine analysis and the blood test." Cristina nodded knowing that Callie was right. It was pointless to triple confirm something.

Then the anxiety set in. She now had the task of telling Mark. She knew that it wouldn't be easy and she just prayed that his reaction wouldn't be too negative "I have to go tell him. "Callie murmured. Cristina lifted an eyebrow at that comment. She couldn't believe what she was hearing "You aren't keeping it are you?" Cristina asked, her voice full of disdain. Cristina's life consisted of surgery, surgery and more surgery. She had no desire for kids because kids would hinder her goal of being the best cardiothoracic surgeon in the world. Callie was immediately on the defensive as she sat up and wiped the gel off of her stomach "You think I am going to give it up for adoption? Or worse kill it? I could and would never do that. I want to be a mother and Mark deserves the chance to be a father." Callie snapped as she walked out of the exam room, still fuming at what Cristina had suggested. She knew that she could not allow that to affect her because she had to go talk to Mark. Instead she focused on what she was going to say to Mark. She had no clue how she was going to tell him.

A second later she realized that she didn't have a picture of the baby and she wanted one or two. She went back to exam room hoping that Cristina hadn't turned off the ultrasound yet. Thankfully she hadn't "Print out two copies of the ultrasound picture please Cristina." Callie all but ordered her subordinate. If Mark decided he wanted to be involved, then Callie knew that he would want a picture of his child. Even if it just looked like a peanut right now. Cristina didn't say one negative thing to her. She just printed out the pictures like Callie asked her to do "Thank you Cristina." Callie thanked Cristina before she left the exam room for the second time. Now she had to go track down Mark and tell him something that could change his life, depending on what he decided and what he wanted.
