Parents

As soon as Mark could he had made a beeline for the kitchen to get away from Esteban's glare. He wanted a beer or maybe something a bit stronger right now to calm his nerves. He was completely mortified that Callie's parents had caught them making out like horny teenagers. Obviously they knew that their daughter was having sex since she was pregnant, but Mark was sure that they hadn't expected to see her making out with Mark the second they had walked into the apartment. There was no reason that he needed to be in the kitchen but he had a feeling that if he went into the bedroom it would look even more suspicious. Mark had never wished that he knew how to cook, but today he was wishing that he had taken that cooking class that Derek and Addison had taken and tried to get him to take with them.

Callie knew that what her parents had walked in on had stressed Mark out even more. She could practically see his stress-o-meter skyrocket. So she walked into the kitchen in full view of her parents and wrapped her arms around his waist and kissed his cheek. Mark turned around from the dishes and kissed her soundly on the mouth. They both knew that they had to keep up appearances in front of her parents. They wanted to appear as though they were madly in love. Or else her parents would be more furious about the situation than they were already.

Maria was watching Callie and Mark and she smiled. Her grandchildren would be beautiful and Maria could tell that her daughter was happy and that was all Maria wanted for her daughter. Especially after her husband had cheated on her. Maria loved how happy that her daughter looked around Mark. They seemed to fit together so well. Esteban wasn't having that same feeling. He still was not sure about Mark being the father of his grandchildren. He could tell that his beloved daughter was happy, but Esteban wanted her happy and married and Mark had already said that was going to happen yet.

Callie took Mark's hand and dragged him out of the kitchen. Mark needed to stop avoiding the Torres parents. Technically he was only avoiding Esteban as he and Maria had gotten along right away. Mark would never admit it, but Esteban scared him a little bit. He was almost positive that Esteban had a blackbelt in some form of martial arts.

"What's going on at home?" Callie asked her parents as soon as she and Mark had sat down on the couch together.

Mark breathed a sigh of relief. He was grateful to Callie for taking the pressure off of him. Mark was almost sure that it wouldn't last long though so he had to be ready for the onslaught of questions that Callie's parents would likely have for him.

"Your sister has met someone." Maria told her daughter. Aria was five years younger than Callie and she had a hard time finding a guy that she liked. Aria had always had high standards so the guy that she was dating had to meet her high standards.

"What does he do for a living? Doctor, Lawyer, Engineer?" Callie asked. Her sister only dated guys with important jobs.

"He's an artist." Esteban told Callie with a little frown.

Callie was startled that Aria had deviated so far from what she normally went for. She half wondered if the sex was mind-boggling or something. Of course she wasn't going to ask her parents about that.

"Is he good looking?" Callie asked instead.

"Let's just say that he is not your sister's typical guy." Maria answered diplomatically.

"And the artist job didn't clue you into that Mama?" Callie asked with a slightly raised eyebrow.

"Well he is not the most attractive man in the world." Maria told her daughter. She loved both of her daughters but it seemed as though Calliope had picked a very attractive man to have kids with whereas Aria's man was not very attractive and his only occupation was an artist. Neither Maria nor Esteban thought that this guy was good enough for her. She was a grown woman and she seemed to like this guy so there was nothing Maria or Esteban could do.

"Your father swears he's in the mob." Maria told Callie.

Now it was Mark's turn to raise an eyebrow at that. Callie had talked about her sister a few times but he had never gotten the feeling that she would go for a mob guy. He figured it was wise that he kept his mouth shut though. This was a family matter and he wasn't part of the family.

"Don't you think that's a little paranoid Daddy?" Callie asked her father.

"I don't trust the guy. I told Aria she needs to break up with him but she won't." Esteban insisted.

"Daddy, she's twenty five." Callie reminded her father. As much as her father wanted to, Callie knew that he could not make Aria break up with this guy. Esteban knew that his oldest daughter was right but the whole thing with Aria did not make him happy.

"What's his name Daddy?" Callie asked. She knew that Mark's turn for interrogation was coming and she was trying to hold it off for as long as she could for Mark's sake. Mark looked at Callie and smiled thankfully at her. Mark knew what Callie was doing for him and he was grateful to her for that. He wasn't ready for the interrogation yet. He wanted to prove to Callie's father that he was the one for his daughter and Mark knew that he had to come up with some pretty good answers to the questions that Callie's father would fire at him.

"Kenneth." Esteban answered, clearly bored by the question. He wanted to know more about his oldest daughter's boyfriend and the father of his grandchildren. He turned to Mark and Mark knew what was coming. He hoped that Callie wasn't going to leave him to deal with Esteban alone. Callie wasn't planning on it. She knew that Mark needed as much support as possible. She knew that Mark had never really been good with parents so Callie hoped that this wasn't a total disaster.

"So Mark, where did you grow up?" Esteban asked.

Mark heaved a sigh of relief. It was an easy question that didn't require a lot of explanation. Mark had a feeling that the rest of the questions wouldn't be as easy to answer.

"I grew up in New York Sir." Mark answered.

"Where did you go to medical school?"

"Columbia." Mark answered.

"Why not Harvard or Princeton or Yale?" Esteban demanded.

"Well I didn't get accepted at Harvard and despite my acceptance into Princeton and Yale, I just felt at home at Columbia." Mark explained.

"Are your parents still living in New York?"

"Yes, Callie and I went to visit them last week to tell them about the babies." Mark told Esteban.

"Are they educated?"

"My father went to Yale and my mother was going to Vassar until she had me." Mark explained. It wasn't until the previous week that Mark had known that his mother went to college.

"Tell me about your childhood." Esteban told Mark.

There it was. One of the toughest questions Mark would have to answer. He didn't want to answer, but he knew that Esteban was expecting an answer and a good one at that. He looked at Callie as if begging her to help him answer this question. Or at least hold his hand while he did it. Callie held onto his hand and squeezed it just as Mark began to answer the question.

"I was an only child and from the time I was small I always knew that I wasn't wanted. May mother didn't believe in abortion and so she had me. I never spent time with them like most kids spend time with their parents. I was always home alone. I always knew that their social calendar was more important to them than I was. When I was home alone at night I turned on all of the lights and the radios and the tv to drown out the noises in the house."

Both Esteban and Maria looked horrified. They couldn't believe that anyone deserved to be treated like that. They couldn't believe that parents would treat their child in that way. Callie looked at Mark and she could tell that bringing up these old memories had been painful for him. Callie kissed his cheek and pulled him in a tight hug. Callie knew that Mark would never admit to wanting a hug, but Callie knew when Mark needed one.

"I apologize for bringing that up." Esteban murmured. He could tell that Mark was upset and he was glad that Callie was there to comfort and console him.

Mark finally pulled away from Callie's hug and shook his head. He was not going to accept the apology because he really needed to deal with the fact that he hadn't had a happy childhood.

"Don't apologize Esteban. You had no idea." Mark told Callie's father calmly.

"Still I apologize." Esteban repeated quietly.

Callie could tell that Mark wanted and needed to change the subject and Callie was only too happy to do that for him. She wanted to see her sister and she wondered if Aria would come to Seattle to see her and meet Mark.

"Do you think Aria would come to Seattle?" Callie asked her parents. She was ending the interrogation for awhile just so Mark could breathe and compose himself.

"She does miss you sweetheart." Maria told her oldest daughter.

"I miss her too." Callie admitted. She looked at Mark and she realized that she wanted her younger sister to meet Mark. Callie felt like she needed Aria's approval.

"I want Aria to fly out here and meet Mark and check out my Seattle life." Callie told her parents. She looked at Mark to see if he was on board with meeting her sister and he nodded. If she was anything like her sister, Mark knew that he would like her.

"I'll call her tonight." Callie told her parents and Mark with a smile. She wanted her to see her little sister. She missed Aria and she wanted to know what Aria was doing with an artist.

Mark was ready for the questions to continue. He was calm and composed and no longer thinking about how crappy his childhood had been. Callie told tell that Mark was feeling better and she nodded at her father to continue.

"Did you play sports in high school?"

"I was the star quarterback on our high school and college football teams." Mark told Esteban.

"When did you meet my daughter?"

"I met Callie about a year and a half ago. I was in love with another woman and I was hoping to win her over and get her to move back to New York with me. That didn't work out, but I managed to get a great woman out of it. Callie and I were friends for a long time and then a couple of months ago I realized that I never wanted her to be alone and that I wanted to have a chance to date her. "Mark explained. He left out quite a lot, but he figured it was best not to spill everything.

"She said you were a good friend to her when her husband turned out to be a cheater." Maria told Mark kindly. Mark looked at Callie and Callie smiled at him. She then stifled back a yawn, only now realizing how busy she had been all day.

"Your mother and I are going to go for a walk now. We'll be back in a few hours so we can take you both to dinner." Esteban told his daughter and Mark. Esteban was done questioning his daughter's boyfriend for the time being. Esteban and Maria stood up and hugged their daughter. Maria hugged Mark while Esteban shook his hand.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once Esteban and Maria left Callie and Mark alone, Callie looked at Mark with a grin on her lips. She was thinking of only one thing. She wanted sex with her hot fake boyfriend. Mark had never been one for restraint, but he was not having sex with Callie. Not when her parents were staying with them and certainly not when all he was to Callie was a fake boyfriend.

"Not happening Cal." Mark told her. He could see that lust in her eyes.

"Denying a woman sex is cruel Mark." Callie protested.

Mark smiled as he wrapped his arms around Callie and he bent and pressed his lips to hers. He was sure that before her parents had arrived, they had reached some sort of breakthrough in their relationship. Like maybe Callie saw him as more than just her boy toy. Callie pulled her lips away from him to speak.

"Wait so you are kissing me but not having sex with me?" Callie demanded.

"Oh just shut up Calliope." Mark growled before he kissed her again with more passion this time.

"Bedroom." Callie mumbled desperately.

"No. You need sleep." Mark told her as he pulled his lips from hers.

"No. What I need is to have sex. What I want is to have sex." Callie complained.

Mark rolled his eyes as he scooped Callie up and carried her to the bedroom. When he laid her down on the bed, she grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him down onto the bed with her. If he wasn't going to give her sex, the least he could do was sleep with her.

"Sleep with me." Callie murmured. Mark sighed and got himself comfortable in the bed. He wrapped his arms around her body and Callie muttered.

"If you won't give me sex then you don't get to touch me. Hands off."

Mark did what she told him to do to avoid an argument. He removed his hands and then let Callie fall asleep without his arms around her. Mark quickly fell asleep too. He had no idea why he was so tired given that it was only 3pm,but he guessed it had to do with the interrogation that had exhausted him.
