A/N Sorry about the long time without updates. School is kicking my butt.

Genesis

Callie and Mark were supposed to meet Addison up on the 6th floor for their scheduled appointment. It was Callie's four month appointment and both parents to be were excited. Secretly Mark was just relieved that he didn't have to fly anymore. Addison was here in Seattle so Mark did not have to face his fear of flying. At least for awhile. Addison was running late and Callie was sitting patiently reading a magazine while Mark was sitting beside her with his hand on her stomach. Callie finally had a baby bump and Mark loved it. His hand hardly ever strayed from her bump when they were in close vicinity. Callie pretended to be annoyed by it but Mark suspected that she liked the fact that his hand hardly ever strayed. Mark knew that Addison hardly ever ran late so Mark was sure that something had happened in surgery and that was why she was taking longer.

Both Callie and Mark had parents who were waiting for an update on the babies and Callie's pregnancy. They would have to call Callie's parents and Mark's mother after they finished the appointment and got back to the apartment. After the visit to New York, Mark's father had taken a turn for the worse and now he was never lucid and he didn't even recognize his wife at all anymore. He was having bad days every day and Mark made sure he called to check on his mother at least once a week. He would never admit to anyone that he was worried about his mother, but he was. Apparently his mother had become a different person than she had been when he was small and she wanted to make it up to Mark by being involved in her grandchildren's lives. Mark was working on forgiving her for the way he had been treated when he was small. It wasn't easy, but he was working on it.

Addison hated running late. Especially when her friends were waiting for her. There had been unforeseen complications in the surgery that she had come out of and that was the reason that she was late. She stepped out of the elevator and she saw Mark and Callie waiting for her. Looking apologetic, Addison walked up to them.

"I am sorry for making you guys wait." Addison apologized.

Callie could tell that something had happened in surgery and she suspected that it wasn't good. She would ask Addison about it later when Mark wasn't around. Addison didn't usually talk about bad times in the OR with Mark around. Addison never wanted to hear Mark tell her not to get attached and that's what Mark usually told her whenever she was upset over losing a patient.

"Don't worry about it." Callie assured Addison as she stood up.

"Everything okay Addie?" Mark asked. He too could tell that something was wrong. He was irked that she didn't seem to want to tell him what was going on.

"Yes, everything is fine Mark." Addison told Mark, lying through her teeth.

She turned to Callie with a smile on her face. Callie was definitely showing and Addison could not have been more excited for her. She was excited for Mark too because he deserved to find happiness and stability. Addison knew how much Mark had hurt when she had aborted his child. It seemed as though even manwhores were given second chances to make things right. Addison was glad that Callie was giving Mark this chance to be the father that Addison never let him be. Addison knew that Mark's father had never won the Father of the Year award, but Addison also knew that Mark had forgiven his father for his childhood. Addison had confidence that he would not make the same mistakes that his own father did.

Once they were in an exam room and Callie was wearing a gown, Addison told her to stand on the scale. This was one part of the pregnancy that Callie did not like. She hated gaining weight even if she knew that it was important for the babies.

"You have gained five pounds in the last month." Addison told Callie. She was a little worried about the slow weight gain but she wasn't about to tell Callie or Mark

"Is that okay?" Mark asked anxiously. He could tell that Addison was concerned by the slow weight gain and now Mark was concerned about the babies and about Callie. He tried to put on a brave face for Callie, but he was pretty sure he was failing because now Callie looked scared. Mark put his hand on her shoulder as Callie stepped off the scale. Callie was now biting her lip and Mark recognized that as a way to keep herself from crying.

"It's a little concerning, but it just means that you need to make sure you eat." Addison told Callie and Mark.

"She is eating though Addie." Mark told Addison quietly. Mark was scared and he desperately hoped that the babies were okay. He now had a knot in his stomach.

"More fruits and veggies." Addison told Mark and Callie. Mark nodded. He knew that Callie had not been eating enough fruits and veggies. Mark wasn't exactly a stellar cook but now he was contemplating enrolling in a cooking class so he could cook healthier for Callie and the babies so they didn't rely on fast food and unhealthy options.

"Now let's check on the babies." Addison told Callie and Mark. Both Callie and Mark were scared and so was Addison but no one wanted to show it.

Addison had her lie on her back. Mark was standing by Callie's head while Addison got the ultrasound machine ready. Addison knew that it was a possibility that they would be able to see the sexes of the babies today but she wasn't sure that was going to happen. If the babies were as stubborn as Mark and Callie were, then there was no way that they would be able to tell the sexes today.

"Will we be able to tell the sexes?" Mark asked his ex lover curiously.

"It depends on how stubborn your kids are Mark." Addison teased him playfully.

Mark glared at her jokingly. Mark knew that since he and Callie were both stubborn that the babies would be as well so Mark wasn't holding out much hope that the babies would cooperate.

"It doesn't matter because we are not going to find out before they are born." Callie told Mark and Addison. She had made this decision several days ago and she hadn't told Mark yet. She was sure that he was not going to be happy with that decision.

"Hey, who said you could make that decision without talking to me?" Mark demanded with a glare aimed at Callie. He was not happy that Callie had made this decision without his opinion. After all these were his babies too.

"I did. They are in my uterus, therefore I get to decide if we find out the sexes." Callie replied. Addison could tell that Mark was not happy with the decision that Callie had made without Mark's input.

While Mark and Callie discussed or rather disagreed, Addison moved the wand on Callie's stomach so she could get a better look at the babies. She could hear both heartbeats and Addison knew that they were both okay. She checked the twins measurements and she was happy with how they were growing and developing.

"Turn away if you don't want to know the sexes because they are cooperating." Addison warned. Callie turned her head but not before she shot Mark a warning glance to make sure that he too turned his head so he couldn't see the sexes of the babies. Addison was pleasantly surprised that the babies were cooperating today. Four months was on the early side to determine the sexes of twins, but Addison had gotten lucky this time. When she was done, Addison turned off the ultrasound machine and looked at Callie and Mark. Everything was perfect and the babies were healthy and growing normally. Addison loved being able to tell expecting parents happy news.

"They are both perfectly healthy." Addison assured both Callie and Mark. Mark was still cross that Callie wouldn't let him find out the sex of the twins and he was not shy about showing his feelings on the subject.

"And are they boys or girls or one of each?" Mark demanded, hoping Addison would override Callie and tell him what they were having.

"Don't tell him Addie." Callie ordered.

"Sorry Mark. The pregnant woman speaks." Addison told Mark shooting him an apologetic smile.

"There are few real surprises left in the world and this is one of them that I'd like to preserve." Callie explained. As annoyed as Mark was with Callie, he couldn't fault her when she said something like that. If she wanted this to be a surprise then Mark would have to live with it. Mark smiled at her, glad that the babies were healthy and that Callie was okay.

"What are your plans for the rest of the day?" Addison asked as she looked at them.

"Furniture shopping." Callie answered before Mark could. Their home inspection had been perfect and there were now problems with the house. Escrow was closing on their house this weekend and they would be able to move into their house next week. Mark was so happy to be getting out of the hotel. He was getting tired of the hotel as convenient as room service was. He didn't want the kids growing up in a hotel room. They deserved better than that and Mark was thrilled that he was finally going to be living in an actual house. He had only lived in a house when he was small. In New York he had owned an apartment and never a house

"Have fun you guys." Addison told Callie and Mark as Callie slipped her gown off her shoulders and put her shirt back on. Addison was her OB and Mark had seen her naked before so she wasn't bothered by being nearly topless in front of them.

"We will." Mark promised as he wrapped his arm around Callie's waist and the two of them walked to the elevator to take them to the lobby.

An hour later, Callie was sipping a triple berry smoothie that Mark had insisted that she get. He was going to take Addison's suggestion seriously and Callie was going to gain weight. Mark was going to make her gain weight if he had to pour fruit smoothies down her throat all day long.

"No Mark we are not getting a black leather couch for the living room." Callie insisted stubbornly. She was not going to live in a bachelor pad and a black leather couch screamed bachelor pad. The black leather couch had been a point of contention between them all afternoon since they had started shopping.

"Well suede is not going to be easy to clean and vinyl is not an attractive material for a couch." Mark pointed out.

"There are other materials that are used to cover couches Mark." Callie pointed out as they walked into yet another furniture store. Callie had only taken two steps into the store and she already knew that there was nothing she liked in that store. They had already ordered a mahogany table with twelve chairs and four Tiffany lamps. That had been about twenty minutes before.

"Okay let's go." Callie told Mark. Mark had been checking the price on an armchair and he looked up at Callie in surprise.

"I'm looking." Mark pointed out.

"Well nothing in here is right for the house." Callie argued.

"It's my house too Cal. You don't get to make all the decisions." Mark replied with a bit of an edge to his voice.

"That ugly olive colored armchair is not coming into our house." Callie insisted with a glare in Mark's direction.

"Cal, we need to sit somewhere in the house." Mark pointed out.

"We just bought twelve chairs." Callie pointed out.

"Yeah for the dining room." Mark reminded her.

"Just shut the hell up Mark." Callie growled as she headed off in the direction of another furniture store.

Mark sighed as he followed her. He had a feeling that this was going to be a long shopping trip. They needed furniture by next week so they were both feeling pressured to get all the furniture that they needed by then. Just then Mark heard a squeal and he knew it was Callie. She didn't squeal, and when she did squeal it was over something exciting. Mark ran over to her. Callie's hand was on her stomach and her smile was quickly widening.

"One of them kicked." Callie told Mark. Mark couldn't believe it. He put his hand over where Callie had hers and he smiled when he felt a soft kick against his hand. He wished that he knew which one had moved and he was so excited to finally feel them.

"I-I was looking at this mahogany sleigh bed and that's when it happened." Callie told Mark, gesturing to the aforementioned bed with her other hand. Mark looked at Callie and he was beaming. With Addison's pregnancy it had never gotten to this point so Mark had never gotten to feel his child kicking before. Mark's slate colored eyes locked onto Callie's dark eyes and he leaned in close and kissed her softly on the mouth. Callie was surprised, but she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back. He was making her happy even if they hadn't exactly defined their relationship yet. Callie just knew that Mark was special to her and she did not want to lose him. When Mark finally pulled away from Callie's soft red lips, he was grinning. They may not have officially been dating but Mark was sure that the kiss was the beginning of something amazing between the two of them. Mark knew that he loved her and by the passion in their kiss, he was almost positive that she loved him too.

"Wow." Callie murmured with a small smile on her face. Mark smiled at the look on her face. He brushed a piece of her raven colored hair out of her eyes and kept his eyes on her. He couldn't tear his eyes from her face. She looked beautiful right then. She always looked beautiful to him, but knowing that she was protecting their children inside of her, made her more beautiful to Mark.

"Yeah." Mark agreed softly.

Callie couldn't believe that one kiss could change so much. That kiss had been enough to prove to her that Mark loved her and Callie had already known that she loved him.

"Let's order the bed and then we'll go back to the hotel." Mark told Callie with that grin still on his face.

"Only one bed?" Callie asked slyly."

"I don't want to sleep alone anymore." Mark admitted. Callie smiled when Mark said that and she stood on her tiptoes and brushed her lips across his again.

"Me either." Callie admitted as she wrapped her arm around Mark's waist and rested her head on his chest.

Once they had ordered the new bed, they headed for the car. They would do the rest of the furniture shopping another day. They both wanted to get back to the hotel and spend some time alone. For the first time in weeks, Callie had no interest in sex. Her interest lie in snuggling up to Mark and kissing him. He made her feel both sexy and safe and Callie loved how she felt like an equal with him. They had their disagreements, but it was never over anything serious.

Once they were in the hotel room, Callie stripped down to her bra and panties. She was hot and she felt like she had a built in heater in her body. Mark stripped down to his boxers and Callie was snuggling up to him. Mark's hand was on her stomach and he was hoping that the babies moved again.

"Kiss me." Callie murmured.

Mark was only too happy to oblige. He cupped her face in his hands and he brought his lips to hers and kissed her tenderly. Callie's tongue ran along Mark's lower lip, begging him to part his lips. Mark parted his lips and Callie slipped her tongue inside of his mouth. Mark slipped his own tongue into Callie's mouth and Callie moved so she was hovering on top of Mark. She still wasn't in the mood for sex, but feeling the way she felt when Mark kissed her was almost better than sex. When they both had to breathe, Callie broke off the kiss. She was still smiling and so was Mark. Callie pressed her lips to Mark's lips again and her hands ran down his chest before Mark pulled her down on top of him, so that there was little space between their bodies. Callie's stomach got in the way, Mark moved to kissing her neck. Callie moaned when she felt his lips on her neck. There was this spot right behind her ear that drove her crazy whenever Mark kissed here there. When he found it this time, Callie felt shivers run down her body and she let out a slightly louder moan.

"You are beautiful." Mark whispered against her skin.

Callie didn't feel beautiful, but she wasn't about to argue with Mark if he wanted to call her beautiful. He could call her beautiful because Callie knew that Mark would never call her beautiful if he didn't mean it.

"I am going to take a shower." Callie murmured.

Mark shook his head. He was not done kissing her neck yet. He could get lost in Callie's body. He loved her body. It was sexy and curvy and the way she could move it, pregnant or not was amazing.

"I'm not done kissing your neck." Mark murmured.

"You can kiss it in the shower." Callie offered. Mark immediately stopped kissing her neck and then Callie got off of the bed and Mark followed her. Mark was not about to refuse her offer.

When they got into the shower, Mark's lips landed on her neck and he tried his best not to make any marks on her skin. Mark knew that Callie would kill him if he left a hickey on her neck. Mark wrapped his arms around her wet naked body and kissed the back of her neck. Callie was letting out a moan as she felt Mark's lips kissing her neck. Callie was washing herself off and she passed Mark the loufah to get her back and Mark washed her back for her and then he ran the loufah over her butt and Callie sighed a contented sigh. Once she was done being washed, Callie washed Mark's back slowly while she took his ear in her mouth. Mark let out a low groan when he felt Callie doing that.

"Jesus Cal." Mark muttered, while trying not to swallow any water.

"You like that huh?" Callie teased playfully before she bit down lightly on his ear.

Mark groaned again when he felt the added pressure on his ear. Callie knew how to get to him better than any other woman ever could.

When they were done with the shower, Mark helped Callie out of the shower and they didn't even bother with towels. Their clothes were in the bedroom still. Mark slipped his boxers back on and Callie slipped her bra and panties back on once they reached the bedroom. It was still too early for sleep and they hadn't eaten yet. Mark wasn't sure when they should have dinner, but Callie's yawn made Mark realize that there was something else that Callie needed. A nap.

"Sleep Cal. I'll be right here." Mark told her before he pressed a soft kiss to her lips.

Callie nodded and snuggled into Mark's arms before she finally fell asleep. Mark wasn't tired, so he stayed up with his hand on Callie stomach feeling the baby or babies moving. He was perfectly content to do that all afternoon and evening. He realized that he and Callie hadn't called the grandparents yet and he decided that could wait until the morning. Callie needed sleep and later she would need food. By that point it would be too late to call Miami and New York.
