Everyday appeared the same. Yukina would try and use her healing abilities on Hiei but neither one of them seemed to feel any different. Even after the nausea had went away, it only seemed to be temporary. Outside of that, something had bothered him a few days before, when Yukina said animals were her only friends which made her sad when winter came.

"Why didn't you have any friends?" Hiei asked one morning when they were both sitting outside watching the recent snowfall melt.

Yukina looked at him, slightly startled that he even cared. He never showed such kindness to anyone else. She replied, "Back in the ice world I was treated differently than the other women."

"What was their reasoning?" he asked, then looked away to try and pretend he didn't care as much as he actually did.

She moved closer to him and explained, "I wasn't concieved like the rest of the ice maidens. Every 100 years they reproduce asexually, but my mother met a man instead. It's why I have red eyes. My mother had green ones that matched her hair. Because of her 'sin' both me and my brother were treated unfairly. He was left for dead while I was mostly outcasted by them. How come you care, Hiei?" She looked up at him with her crimson eyes.

He froze. "I don't," he defended as he wrapped another blanket around himself tighter, "I only thought that ice maidens treated each other like family. Guess I was wrong."

Just before she was about to say something Yukina felt a change in the air. Someone's demon energy was coming closer. "Do you feel that?" she asked.

"No," he said, "what?"

Yukina stood up and said, "Powerful demons are coming! I can feel it!" Just like that a group of large and ugly demons appeared in front of them. Hiei stood up and threw the blanket away.

"Hiei," the lead one said, "we heard you were hiding in human world now."

Yukina said, "Demons aren't supposed to cause trouble in human world anymore."

"Hiding behind a weakling?" one of them asked, "How pathetic."

Hiei glared at him, drew his sword, and sliced him into pieces in an instant. Hiei fell to the ground on all fours, now completely exhausted and struggled to catch his breath. He couldn't even try to hide it from them.

Yukina jumped and shouted, "Get down!" She landed on to top of him just as Genkai used a shot gun blast to kill the remaining demons.

"If you think that's the first time weaklings like that came here looking for trouble you're wrong," Genkai replied, looking at the two of them.

Hiei struggled to his feet and put his sword away. Yukina stood beside him and asked, "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," he replied as he took a step forward. He could barely walk. "How did they know I was here?" he asked, trying to divert attention away from him stuggling to stand up.

Genkai said, "Who knows. I've always wondered how they manage to find this place."

"Hiei you can barely walk, let me help you," Yukina said. Before he could try and say anything he fainted from exhaustion.

When he woke up again he could hear other people talking inside the temple. He got up and walked to the living room in the temple. Kurama, Yusuke, and Kuwabara were visiting.

"Look who's awake," Kuwabara said.

"I fell asleep?" Hiei said angrily, "Only after swinging my sword? Being human must really be pathetic." He walked over and sat across the room from everyone.

Kuwabara pointed out, "Actually you're weaker than a regular human right now."

"Kuwabara," Kurama said.

Yusuke asked, "How did those demons know where to go? Even I can't sense Hiei's demon energy."

"Mukuro mentioned something apparently," Koenma appeared in the doorway behind them, "don't worry, I already talked to her about keeping this place secret from now on."

Kurama asked, "Who told her he was here?"

"I did," Hiei replied, "telepathically. I didn't expect her to tell anyone else."

"Anyway," Koenma said, "that shouldn't happen again."

Hiei said, "How unfortunate, just when things were getting interesting around here." He tried to hide his shivers from the cold. Was human world always this cold?

"You're joking, right?" Kuwabara said, "In your condition even I could kill you." Hiei glared at him, but he knew deep down he was right.

"You okay, Hiei?" Yusuke asked.

"I told you before," he answered, "I'm fine."

Kurama said, "Maybe someone from our group should stay here and make sure no other demons come looking for Hiei, just in case."

"I don't need a babysitter," he replied.

Yukina added, "Besides, Genkai and I can handle him."

Yusuke asked, "You sure about that?" Hiei glared at him while Yukina nodded.

It kept snowing through the night. Hiei huddled as close to the fireplace as he could, trying to keep himself as warm as possible with several blankets around himself. Yukina entered his room and said, "I have some soup for you, want some?"

"I'm not helpless, I don't need your charity," he replied, feeling his stomach acid wanting to come up his throat again as he shivered, "dammit it's so cold. Has human world always been this cold?" Yukina's energy must only be temporary, he thought to himself, otherwise why else would the nausea keep returning?

Yukina sat down beside him and put the soup in front of him. She said, "I guess my idea of cold is skewed."

He replied, "Being an ice maiden and all the way from the ice world you must not get cold."

"You're right," she replied happily, "how come you don't want to eat?"

Hiei pushed the bowl away from himself and said, "It's just my stomach." He looked at her nervous eyes. "What's wrong?" he asked.

"I just hope you get better soon," she replied, "I don't like to see people suffering and I don't think my powers are helping as much as Koenma told me they would." If she knew the truth...he stopped himself. She shouldn't know the truth. It's better this way. He knew deep down that he was lying to himself.
